I need to share what happened at this gym because the level of disrespect and neglect I experienced…read moreand witnessed is truly alarming. First, my brother was banned over a simple declined membership payment. Any responsible gym would handle that by updating the card or rerunning it. Instead, they turned it into a punishment. Then today, ON THANKSGIVING, I walked in just to pay a guest pass for him. A two-minute transaction turned into one of the most unprofessional encounters I've ever had. The owner didn't greet me, didn't acknowledge me, didn't offer even basic courtesy. The energy was cold and hostile from the moment I stepped inside. To make matters worse, the owner was behind the desk on the phone, speaking in a tone and attitude that made it obvious the conversation was about us. I couldn't hear the exact words, but anyone standing there would have felt the same disrespect. On a day meant for gratitude and kindness, the hypocrisy was unbelievable. And that's just the customer service. Let's talk about the facility itself, because that's an issue no one should ignore: Dumbbells constantly left loose or in unsafe positions Multiple areas of the gym that feel hazardous and poorly maintained Bathrooms that are consistently dirty, foul-smelling, and visibly neglected Mold or what appears to be mold that was literally painted over No visible janitorial presence mirrors, floors, equipment, and high-touch areas look unclean People often walking barefoot around the gym, which raises serious hygiene concerns I even had a friend who picked up a foot infection after training here (he didn't report it, but the environment speaks for itself) A gym should promote health not put people at risk or make them feel unwelcome. Another thing that stood out to me over time is the way the owner interacts with the younger, more timid employees. The dynamic feels uncomfortable and one-sided, almost like they're afraid to speak up or push back about anything. It creates a work environment that feels pressured and unbalanced, and as a customer, it's very noticeable. A gym should empower its staff not make them look tense or uneasy. But what truly shocked me were the notes and signs around the gym. They're written in a tone that feels harsh, confrontational, and almost angry..the kind of wording that makes members feel uncomfortable instead of supported. A gym should motivate people, not intimidate them with aggressive messaging. If this is the level of respect and maintenance on a holiday built around gratitude, imagine what the rest of the year looks like. There are MANY gyms in the Lighthouse Point / Pompano Beach area that treat people with professionalism and maintain clean, safe facilities. I strongly recommend choosing one of them instead of dealing with this kind of environment and management.

Where do I start with these people. Long story short even before I had an issue with them billing…read moreme several times after I asked to take my credit card off file they treated us as if we were going to break their equipment. Every time a weight hit the floor I would get an evil stare and then eventually got reprimanded. It's gym not a museum right lol? And no I wasn't throwing weights around being disrespectful. I was down in Florida in July 2025 for 2 1/2 weeks and wanted to try this place because it was new. So I bought a one month membership for myself and my wife and then asked to freeze the account until we come back down to Florida since we live in New Jersey. We did everything through a gentlemen named Mac who understood our situation that we wouldn't be coming back down until the next year. I got billed the next month accidentally and he refunded me and apologized. At that time I asked him to take my card off file. Fast forward to January and I've been getting billed the last 3 months after several phone calls with the owner and emails sent without a response. Today was the last straw as I called AGAIN to have my card removed and to be refunded. I mentioned that I'm going to have my bank reverse the charges and he started calling me a jack ass and saying why don't I come and say this to his face because he felt "threatened" and will sue me if I do it. I can't say enough awful things about the people here except for Mac who actually doesn't even work there anymore probably because he was nice. The fact that I asked several times for the card to be taken off file and it hasn't been is severely alarming. Anyone that is traveling and thinking about Joining beware. They told me something completely different than what the contract said. Stupid me for taking their word for it and not reviewing the contract. Not keeping your word says a lot about a business. The gym is beautiful though.

This gym has a machine for every single muscle group, no joke. You will definitely walk out sore in the best way. The open windows and natural lighting keep it from feeling like a dungeon, and honestly make you want to work out longer. I've been to a lot of gyms, and this one is absolutely top-tier. The staff is amazing too--there's a lady who walks around cleaning like it's her own home. The place is spotless. And the crowd? Only serious gym rats show up, which keeps the environment focused and legit. Those super low-cost gyms that take anyone just don't compare--they lose that true workout atmosphere. I love my gym!!! Now I just need to find a sauna to complete the setup!

You know you need to work out, but.... "I'm too old…read moreI don't like high pressure sales tactics It doesn't fit in my schedule It's sooo boring My weight is fine The trainers don't really know what they're doing I could get killed on that equipment I hate waiting to use the equipment because it's so crowded The showers are icky...." It goes on, but I think I've hit the high points. Eventually, you make yourself go check out the big gyms. Sure enough, there are dozens of sweaty people rotating on and off the equipment without cleaning it. The smell of sweat permeates the room. Weights are everywhere except where they belong. And the sales guys....looming like vultures. But what if you could find a place where none of that was true and none of your excuses would apply? I'm picky about gyms or fitness centers....very picky. So have I got a place for you! Before you start, you will be given a health screen of questions of any current or past medical issues, as well as family history. Your blood pressure is taken, along with your resting pulse. You get body composition measurements and metabolic testing. Uh-huh, your weight may be good, but is there hidden fat that could be an issue? You can have your cholesterol, blood sugar or pulmonary function tested. Wow. Who else does that? Nobody, but these people really care about you. Their clients range from age 7 to age 92.......what were you saying about being too old? Moving on - you're ready to start. First off all comes the scheduling thing. This gym doesn't have any hours. You want to work out at 4 a.m., okay the trainer will be there, he/she will be qualified. You can see that from their bios on the website. All training is by appointment only so the gym is small, there will never be more than a few people at a time, and each one will have a trainer. You're never alone, so you don't have to worry about accidentally getting hurt because you didn't know what you were doing. And believe me, you won't get bored. You are the sole focus of your trainer while you are there. The equipment is current and well maintained. You won't see rusty hinges and worn out machines that squeak when they move. The gym is spotless, everything is where it belongs. Not sure about your diet? There is a nutritionist on call. Same thing with a masseuse, if you want a massage after your work-out. Oh yes, the dreaded locker and shower area. There's only a handful of lockers, since this is a personal gym. There are two huge showers (one is handicap accessible) and a private dressing area. There is no mold growing in corners that looks as though it pre-dates pond scum. This place is clean, even by germophobic standards. So, you love the place, but you still aren't sure. You can have 3 free sessions and there is no used care salesman hiding behind the curtain. Yes, I had one gym that actually said, "How can we get you to sign this contract before you leave, without having to look anywhere else?" Either you want to do it, or you don't. No one is going to push you. No, it isn't cheap to work-out here, but there are so many things that make it worth making it work. Go ahead - take their 3 free sessions and try it out, compare for yourself. I dare ya.....

I finished up my third visit on Wednesday and still no mention of money!?! On my first visit I had a review of my physical state including my stats, BMI and about 15 measurements of my arms, legs, waist, chest and others. There was also a discussion about my general health, my goals and how I felt about using a facility like his. (The focus was all on me... not on how many payments the plan could be stretched over, like when we were shopping for a gym for my wife!?!) On my second visit Michael guided me through about ten different activities which he purposely started out on the lower, safer levels. It was surprisingly gentle and Michael was genuinely encouraging. (Way different than the ### high school gym instructor who turned me off from going to a gym for the last 46 years.) On my third visit, after warming up, I had an odd sensation that took me a moment to figure out what the heck it was. I was stunned to discover that I was actually looking forward to the workout (not dreading it... how weird is that!?!) Michael came out to meet me on the gym floor and we were off on another set of discovery activities. What was I capable of doing? (You will note I am using the term "activities" rather than calling them "exercises". That is because in my mind, I equate exercises with torture and these were actually interesting as they were designed to help me discover... not suffer.) Michael got me to do more than I thought I was going to be able to do and in a supporting, team like way. Hard to explain but Michael makes you feel like you are not in this alone and he champions you all the way. Not in a cheerleader way but in a belief in you that you just sense and respond accordingly. Best way I can describe it. Tomorrow, I meet again with Michael to go over my results from the three visits. Still no mention of money... just me, how I feel while working out, tips on how to manage my balance better and more about ME. When Michael says he will give you three visits free, he really means it. I figured it was just sales hype. There has been no sales hype... actually nothing to do with sales, at all. So, pigs must be flying somewhere and a very hot location must have frozen over because I am actually going to recommend a fitness center... SayFitness. If you have ever wondered about going to a gym or having a trainer help you get fit, you must take Michael up on his three free visit offer. And it isn't just come in and work out on the equipment. It is a full review, guidance and a plan... and encouragement. And it really is free! Oh yes, Michael tells me that his trainers will meet you on your schedule. So, if you schedule a workout for 3:00 am, your trainer will meet you at the gym at that time. I am tempted to test Michael on this feature, too. But that would mean I would have to get up at 3:00 am, also. I think I will take his word for it.

Unfortunately, loyalty means absolutely nothing to Hilary, the so-called manager, or the gym itself. The boot camp pricing is never consistent--they increase the rates arbitrarily, with no transparency, no notification, no justification, and zero regard for long-term customers. I was explicitly told that I could pause my membership and would be locked in at the same price when I returned. I confirmed this multiple times before reactivating my membership and attending a boot camp class. After the class, instead of reinstating my membership as promised, they charged me a drop in fee and charged my team's card--which hasn't been used in over a year--without authorization, even though my own card has been on file and used for payments before. To make matters worse, Hillary decided after the fact that she would not honor the price when I returned, and instead, she increased the price by 200%. No explanation, no notice--just blatant disregard for what I was told and confirmed. This is not how you run a business, and it's certainly not how you treat loyal customers. So instead of making something, they rather make zero. There has been other issues, as well. However, I liked the trainers and people I attended boot camp with, but I've had enough. If you're considering Barwis, save yourself the frustration. Their pricing is a joke, their management is incompetent, and their business practices are shady at best, which is not surprising when I don't think the Director of Business Operations has business acumen or background. There are plenty of other gyms that actually appreciate their members and uphold their commitments--this is not one of them.

I've previously been to other PT facilities, but none were as impressive as Barwis. However, what set this particular facility apart from previous places I've been treated at, was the unbelievable PT I had assigned to me--Lauren Norwood. My initial visit consisted of Lauren and Maddie Wnuk carefully charting a mobility and flexibility program designed specifically to strengthen the muscle around the knee and increase overall flexibility. I'm in my mid 70's and the protocol charted and implemented was exactly what I needed. Lauren was always positive, encouraging and understanding. Within a few weeks she'll have graduated with her doctorate and will go on to establish an unbelievable reputation as a great PT. Barwis seems to be the "gold standard" if you need any type of PT or rehab.
