I will start by saying that all the knives we had sharpened looked great and were extremely sharp after using this service. This is a very mixed review because, up until we got our knives, the entire experience couldn't possibly have been easier or more pleasant. For some context, I live out of state, so all of my communication was over the phone or over text. The owner was extremely friendly on the phone and I arranged to pay in advance to sharpen 6 knives (the price was very reasonable). As this was a gift for family members, I gave him the name of my father as the recipient of the knives. However, somewhat confusingly, I then asked my brother who lives in the area to bring the knives in to be sharpened. The owner charged my brother for the service and my brother paid, both clearly misunderstanding that I paid in advance. This is where the entire service became unbelievably disappointing. The owner went back and forth with my brother about how unlikely it would have been that I paid in advance given that he normally asks customers to pay after he completes the sharpening job. After I sent screenshots of our earlier conversation and of my payment, the owner agreed to pay my brother back for the double payment. All was well and good except the owner sent my brother a text message saying "You all couldn't have made this more difficult". I concede that we weren't entirely clear in our communication but this is simply not any way to talk to customers who, lest we forget, had just paid for your service and apologized for our mistake. I was genuinely so excited to work with a small local business who, up to that point, was extremely friendly and helpful. Based on other reviews this is almost certainly an outlier which made it all the more bizarre. So, aside from a single completely unacceptable comment made in response to a common customer mistake, the service was everything we could have wanted and I hope he continues to provide great service in the future. read more

I'd needed my kitchen workhorses sharpened for a while, with Thanksgiving dinner coming up I decided it was the right time. Contacted the business by text asking if they did weekend work so close to the holiday, he told me if I could get them to him that afternoon he'd have them ready the next day. This is a small, home-run business in a gated community. He will get you on a guest list to get through the gate and he has a drop box on his porch for contact-free drop-off and pickup. He communicated this information clearly and there were no issues with either end of the transaction. He notified me when the knives were ready and let me know that he found no structural issues with the knives. Payment was similarly straightforward and my knives were ready exactly when he said. I had to delay pickup and he kept my name on the guest list an additional day, no problem. Pricing is reasonable and transparent - if paying cash, it costs exactly what he lists on the site and he communicates Venmo/PayPal rates ahead of time. We used this service during the COVID pandemic, so I don't know if it's the same now. When we used it, we dropped off our knives at their house in secure lockers. You keep the key for pickup later. Once the knives are ready they text you and you come back to pick up the knives from the same locker, and leave the key inside. Payment is done by cash or check. There wasn't a secure credit card option other than giving them your credit card number and CVC over the phone. I like that prices are well established in advance. Excellent work! I'm a dog groomer that recently moved here from Miami and needed to find someone to sharpen my grooming scissors and wow! One the thinning shears I asked John to fix hadn't cut properly in two years. I've given it to other sharpeners in Miami and non had been able to fix it and and he did it! Those shears weren't cheap! I absolutely loved the two Shun knives I got back from John. They were beautifully sharpened and not scratched up or anything amateur like that. Lovingly done, I'd say. And I'm now able to cut tomatoes again with very little effort where before I was just about smashing them with my dull blades.
