We stopped here for a quick bite to eat! Of course we got the clam chowder and crab cakes. Both were delicious! I shared a bowl of the chowder with my boyfriend - it was super filling but delicious (almost wish I got my own). The crab cake was lightly breaded and had celery and red peppers (not spicy). It added a little crunch which was nice. We each had two drinks. Our bill total was $45... not too bad! It was a neat little place, we sat at the bar. Prior to my visit this week, I had not been to The Point since before COVID. Apparently they did some remodeling and opened up the ceiling to expose the original wooden beams. I really like the new, more rustic feel of the place. The higher ceilings create a feeling of more space too. As for the food and the service, both were excellent. I came here for a friend's birthday party last week. My expectations weren't super high but it was a great event! The upstairs space was nice and clean, and the appetizer platters were delicious! This is my go to spot when I am in Boston either with the wife or just the guys. The staff is friendly the drinks are strong and there are always drink specials. Came here for lunch with the coworker. It was my first time being here. I definitely had to try their clam chowdah and I'm glad I did, it was amazing. Prob top 3 of the ones around here that I've had. I ordered the Chicken Parm lunch special and my coworker got the Salmon with rice and veggies. Shortly after our chowdah came out my chicken parm came out while I was still working on the soup. It was weird cause the Salmon didn't come out at the same time. I think about 10 minutes after that, I see 2 plates come up from the kitchen (the salmon & another chicken parm which i assume were both for me and my coworker.) There was a gentleman at the bar that was there before us and he ordered the Chicken Parm also, so I think she accidentally gave me his....and then wen the other 2 specials came out, she gave my coworker hers and gave him mine. Been coming into The Point for years. They have great service, delicious pub food and I'm super pumped they have Night Shift Brewing on tap (local brewery). Great spot to watch the games or pre-game before taking the short walk to TD Garden. Not eating here because I am cheap ever bar in Boston is open for the beer prices. When I went order guy had no idea what I was talking about... snowed him their web site. My friends and I bought tickets for a drag show here for a bachelorette party, $25 each for a seat. We get there long before the show starts to find that there are no seats available for our group. Meanwhile people without tickets are continuing to be let into the bar for free. They eventually seated part of our group then proceeded to kick us out of the seats for another group. You absolutely must visit an historic pub while in Boston, right? If so, The Point doesn't disap-POINT. Ha. The menu involves standard pub fare; nothing particularly unusual, but decent variety. We both had bowls of clam chowder, which was creamy, rich, flavorful and contained the perfect amount of clams (some chowders hardly have any clams = fake and crap), right temperature, accompanied by chowder crackers, of course. The SO had a beer, which was also delightful. The only thing we didn't like was the noise level; it was very, very loud. Music was blaring and people shouting, which made for an uncomfortable meal. I would have given four stars if it weren't for the noise level in the place...though perhaps pubs should be overly loud and raucous and maybe I am just getting old. I just don't like to have to shout at my dinner companion because I can't hear him, so if you're like me/don't enjoy a loud atmosphere, skip this place and hit a restaurant. This review is for the event sold on Event Brite sponsored by Diva Royale. Diva Royale advertises a recurring Drag show "performance" which is at The Point pub location. This was the worst experience I have ever endured not to mention the $58 I paid for two tickets. Shame on The Point for allowing this group to use their location and soil their reputation. I am not sure if every night it a chaotic disaster but the night we attended (March 30) the show didn't start and no one could provide any information or updates. Extremely unprofessional. There was no need to pay since patrons were walking in for free and shoving into the pub. There was also many empty seats but no standing area, no stage, and no performance area. I'm not sure where they were planning to host a performance. There were people trying to stand on the stairwell so they would not be in path of servers but they were told they could not wait there. The venue (The Point) had an upstairs that was closed. An irate bachelorette party of 18 was taking up much of the Diva Royale's organizer's attention that night but I doubt it would pan out any evening at that location. The organizer assured there would be refunds, so my friend and I finally left to get dinner elsewhere. However this was a lie, as customer service is now not issuing a refund and is stating that the employee is not authorized to promise refunds. read more

WOW. Just held a Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Pan Mass Challenge fundraiser at The Point on Thursday July 14, 2011. I cannot say enough about this bar and the owners. I worked closely with Kevin to plan the event and everything was so easy. He was extremely responsive and helpful. The Point even donated an appetizer platter for 35 people! The space was perfect for the party that we had as were the ambiance, bar-tenders, music set up, etc. All of our guests commented on how great The Point was! Eh. This place is just too small! Now, I know that's not the best grounds for ruling a spot out, cause some small bars are just fine (Littlest Bar, Penguin Pizza, City Bar, etc.), but they definitely pack their patrons like sardines at The Point. And this is one of my biggest pet peeves. I came in with some friends on Friday at around 6pm at the beginning of our celebratory tour of Faneuil Hall shortly after one's entry into adulthood. We saw a live band and what looked like a rowdy group through the window so we decided to stop in for a beer. We should have known better. The band was belting out the dreaded Don't Stop Believin' and we had to squeeze our way through the singing, arm-locked crowd to reach our destination: a tiny nook at the back of the room, mashed up against a wall in an apparent passing lane since passersby made us shower in our beer. The prices were a little mismatched: $4.50 for a pint of Miller Light for the boys. $4.50 for a pint of Sam's Noble Pils for me. I wasn't complaining, but I found it a bit odd that there was no difference between the two. Anyway, maybe it just wasn't the right time for us to try it out, since I believe the average age was around 35. Perhaps we'll try another time? Who knows. This is a bar that you could just walk right by and not even notice it, but let me tell you, it's worth a stop in for a pint. I can't speak to other nights of the week because like I said, you could walk right past this place and not even know it, but on Friday after work, it definitely gets your attention. Previously down the street at another bar, Me and Julio's happy hour show is the best I've seen in Boston. So good in fact, that I have been going for almost ten years. You truly do wipe your feet and leave your troubles at the door. Playing everything from Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song to an 80s hairband medley to close out the night, there is a little something for everyone. You can't help but laugh and smile the whole time you are there, and the crowd adopts you as one of their own. This group is the closest thing to "Cheers" that really exists in Boston. After just a few times of going to the happy hour, not only the band, but the crowd and the staff knew me (and everyone else!) by name. You're greeted on stage when you walk in and are instantly de-stressed. As far as talent and versitility goes, these two guys really have the full package. IF they don't know the song you requested, they try to figure it out for you on the spot. That's something you don't find everywhere. For years, I thought this was just a part of the Bell In Hand, located next door. Turns out, it's its own tiny bar! Cheap pitchers of beer, gross bathroom, half decent musician who will take requests, even if he doesn't know the words. It kind of fits the mold of being a solid place when you're just out to drink and wander. I went to The Point for dinner with my sister and her newly-minted-BA friends., who were drawn in by the promise of $2 drafts of Bud Light... Anyway, they were willing to seat this 10 people with out-of-state IDs (and 9 with unsophisticated palates,) so we went in. At first, we had to ask for extra chairs at the table; despite us repeatedly telling them we had 10, they set the table for 7, and then had to go hunt around the place for 3 extra chairs. The waitress gave out menus that didn't match, so some people were ordering dishes she'd never heard of and had to ask repeatedly what it was. She also didn't seem too bright, making silly mistakes and being generally dim-witted all through the ordering process. Most of the people at my table got fried pub food, and were relatively happy with their acceptable (though overpriced for what they were) burgers and fisherman's platters. I foolishly ordered the Chicken Teriyaki. It was grilled chicken on a sloppily-constructed bed of dried rice pilaf, covered in excessive amounts of what seemed like Shaw's brand teriyaki sauce. It looked and tasted like something I'd gotten back in college in the dining hall on a busy night, when the servers didn't care about presentation and the food had been sloppily thrown on a plate. The ambiance was mediocre. The place was warm, though the windows were open for a weak cross-breeze. Its location didn't lend itself to beautiful views, but that's not really anyone's fault. The place was dark and dingy, and someone kept playing crappy music too loud on a pay-per-song jukebox. The service was slow. Our drinks and meal took about 2.5 hours. Finally, someone went into the bathroom (I think it was my poor sister) only to find the previous person in the bathroom had overflowed the toilet, and water was running across the floor. She and a friend left to tell bar management, who took their sweet time coming and offered the girls the employee restroom downstairs. We sat there waiting and staring at the bathroom door, waiting for sewer water to start running across the restaurant floor. Finally, an employee came in with towels and mopped up things, then walked across the restaurant with the wet towels, dripping sewer water across the floor. The Point seemed like a glorified dive bar, so if that's what you're looking for, it's a fine place to hang out. But if you're looking for a meal, there are so many better places to go in the area with the North End a few hundred feet away...don't bother. read more

This place sucks and it's all that you need to know. This is the place college kids, tourists or anyone in general goes to get a drink if the lines at the better clubs in the area are too long. You wait outside to pay $5 then wait inside to get the upstairs part of the bar which further makes the place more crowded. This place should be renamed, "The World's Crappiest Tiny Bar." I've been to dives which can be enjoyable but this place is just a dump. My old roommate has lived in Boston and never hear of the place either which even signifies how much this is a no name place. We left after 10 minutes to one of the better establishments in the area. I've never heard of a bar that has one bathroom that opens into the bar. Really? It really looked liked more people opted to piss on the floor than actually use the toilet. I'm surprised no one gets hepatitis from using it. The bartenders are inattentive and couldn't keep pace with folks getting drinks. You can expect crappy drinks served in plastic 8oz cups that are just as crappy as the pour count. The crowd was fine but this place was a huge "sausage factory" which is okay if you you're a girl who like people get wasted off of Bud Lights. Save your time and get to other places around the area that are way better. I've seen a better time and atmosphere in a fraternity basement. read more

This is the most underrated bar in the most touristy part of town. Food and drinks are not bad, and are reasonably priced, there are less people in here than the other bars on the block because they haven't manufactured some historical connection that doesn't really exist, and the place is locally owned and operated. It was really crowded, as you would expect, so it made it a little difficult to belly up to the bar to get a drink. But when you did, they had a lot of beers that I like on draft. Why there can't be at least one establishment down near Faneuil Hall that's anti-bro, I'll never know. What I do know is that no one there was glad I came and no one knew my name. Drinks weren't too bad or expensive, but maneuverable space was at a premium and I kept getting the crotch end from guys who looked well insured. I went to this pub for the first time this past Memorial Day, late in the afternoon. My girlfriend and I had spent half the day walking around Boston, enjoying the weather and getting some exercise, so we were feeling hungry. I myself wanted a cold beer as well. I had passed this place before, but never really noticed it. I'm always up for trying new pubs and like the small, intimate ones. I'm also a huge wings fan and on this particular day they had $0.25 wings, so I couldn't resist and dragged my girlfriend in with me. You would never know this place had a second floor, or maybe I was just blind to the staircase, but my first impression was that the first floor was all there was to the joint. It wasn't crowded at all and we settled down to a pub table next to a large open window looking out on a side street, good for people watching. The decor of the place seemed a bit modern and nice to me, with cushioned chairs at the tables and several new-looking flat-screen TVs all around. I ordered two flavors of wings: hot (which wasn't that hot, but I did have a good buzz in my mouth afterward) and the honey BBQ (which tasted more like honey mustard, but still very good). The wings were served with a very small amount of celery and carrots and a good side of bleu cheese that was delicious. The wings themselves were medium size and average tasting. My girlfriend ordered The Point burger, which looked delicious and was served on a big soft bun. She got the curly fries with it, which she thought were overcooked, but I thought they were tasty and very good for curly fries. The waitress seemed to be the only help in the place, but she gave everyone proper attention and she was very pleasant. As for beer, they had the regulars on tap including a Hawaiian beer that I had to try, so that was a huge plus. It was a very relaxed meal and I would love to come here again. The menu offered a variety of tasty looking pub fare at inexpensive prices, which impressed me considering that it's Boston. I would love to hang out at this place to watch a Celtics, Pats or Sox game, but I'm sure it'd be much more packed. Friday night, raining, and for one reason or another a few of the venues we tried to go to just weren't working... enter... The Point. $5 cover charge, live band downstairs playing cover songs from the early to mid 90's (think Oasis-Wonderwall). Drinks are served in small plastic cups. I don't know the price because a friend was hooking me up for the night. We see there are stairs and walk up... someone is having a birthday? I have no idea. It was decorated like someone was having a birthday... but I didn't hear anyone mention anything about a birthday the entire night. Oh well... ...DJ upstairs, playing various tunes you would usually hear in bars. He is doing a good job of mixing, and requests were well received. Drinks... again, don't know how much they cost, but they were MUCH larger, and in actual glasses. Mmm mm, and far more tasty too! Bartenders upstairs get 2 thumbs up. DJ gets 2 thumbs up. Patrons... meh. Take 'em or leave 'em... and towards the end of the night it was a toooooooootal sausage party. Truly... without exaggeration, I think there was about 5 guys or more to every girl. The reason I'm only giving this venue 3 stars is because there really wasn't anything going on. I felt like my group was the life of the party and we weren't even getting wild... so I would say The Point is what you make of it. If you are able to entertain yourself and what goes on around you doesn't matter... you'll have an OK time... but if you require external stimulation... you're better off going elsewhere. read more
