We just finished a great time at " The Place" the food was extremely good. My Burger was the best I have ever had during my almost 18 years living in Buffalo. The Mac n cheese right there with Barefoot Contessa's. Service was great the atmosphere very nice. The Bar was hopping, three deep. With Curly working the bar it's no wonder. For dinner I had the chicken pot pie.it was pricey but good and a decent portion. I'm actually writing this review to give a shout out to our waitress, Susan. Susan is the best waitress I've ever had! She's personable, accurate, and sweet with phenomenal manners. THE BEST!!! Also a shout out to the Brinkworth's and Mr. McCarthy for salvaging this establishment. THANK YOU! Went here for their French Onion Soup and Beef on weck. Both were good but not as good as many other local spots in Buffalo. The noise level is very high. I was barely able to hear the waitress or the others with whom I was dining. We arrived at 6:30 and left close to 8:30, yet the busyness of the restaurant, and noise level stayed the same. On a Thursday night, this was a surprise to me. The food, however, was great. I had a delicious cheeseburger. It is on the menu as a burger, but the description says: onion, tomato, lettuce and choice of cheese. There was no jalapeño jack cheese offered, so I picked cheddar. The burger was thick, juicy, hot and exactly filled the bun. It was cooked medium rare, as requested, juicy enough that I had to hold it over my plate. The burger comes with a very large side of fries, big enough to offer some to others at the table. I think my next trip to The Place might be slightly earlier in the evening, or for lunch. The food here is consistently excellent and my sister with celiac disease appreciated how careful they are in preparing gluten-free items. The servers were also knowledgeable as to how the food was prepared and answered questions confidently. My favorite things are the rotating soups they have. The only recent issue I had was when I ordered the potato leek soup, which was mostly delicious! Ah, bummer. We came back to try a meal other than the fish fry and it just wasn't good. And it was expensive. As in $18 for a watery, flavorless Caesar salad with no Parmesan, five croutons and a few strips of chicken. A $9 plate of hummus with a couple teaspoons worth and less than a whole pita. And $22 for the chicken Milanese which was totally unseasoned--like not even salted--and a paltry ass salad. I'm writing this review mainly because Clayton, the bartender, made the most delicious drinks I have ever had. I'm not kidding the mojito was the best I ever tasted! "The Place" is located right around my house so I have been here on multiple occasions with my friends to order Mac N Cheese. Despite my friends being obsessed with the Mac N Cheese, I have always found it to be just okay. Yes, it's cheese and it's noodles, but does it give me that "WOW" factor? Not really. I have learned that I like their Steak Sandwich a lot more than the Mac N Cheese, so that has become my new go to. The cheese stuffed pepper they place in the sandwich is absolutely fantastic which is why I keep ordering it. The cheese is a strong flavor, in combination with the spice of the pepper, it just blows me away. Unfortunately, the steak isn't always cooked that well. I went here last night and despite ordering medium rare, it came out more as medium/well done and consequently was too dry. The fries were meh, but when dipped in ranch, it's pretty solid. I was quite impressed by their BBQ chicken flatbread special that's not on their normal menu. The BBQ sauce was nice and tangy, the pulled BBQ chicken was definitely cooked to perfection and the bacon and scallions added a nice flavor boost to the flatbread. Definitely my favorite thing I've had there so far. The Place is on the more expensive side, I wish that they would put a little more zest into their food. read more

We went to The Place tonight fo the first time since Covid and the food was outstanding! We haven't been out much in the last 16 months but have gotten take out from many favorite restaurants around town. Usually, it was disappointing but understandable under the circumstances. Everything the 4 of us ordered( fish fry, scallops, pasta with lobster and short ribs) was perfectly prepared. Dropped by the place this past weekend on a Friday night and it was an overall enjoyable experience. They were pretty busy overall but I was a little surprised nobody came to take even drink order for a solid 20 minutes. We ordered a special bbq chicken flatbread which was fantastic! 5/5 for that for sure. I had their cajun chicken pasta and my friend ordered the steak sandwich. My pasta was good but not great, and her sandwich was meh at best in my opinion. The service was painfully slow, and in all we spent close to an hour and a half here mostly waiting for this or that. I know it was busy but the wait seemed a little excessive overall. Pricing was a little bit high as well, but hey downtown prices I suppose. Anyway, fun place for a drink or during a sporting event and I would try them again sometime. read more

Loved the food, and the environment! I took my parents to The Place a few weeks ago. It was very busy- active, exciting, yet intimate environment. We all started with the French onion soup, which was amazing. My parents got some kind of seafood item, which was plated beautifully. We had to enjoy the weather while we could, so we decided to place a reservation here for the patio dining. They had heaters which worked well for when it got a tiny bit chillier, the ambience outside was very nice! We started off with the banana pepper dip, I honestly have to say it was one of the tastiest things I've got as an appetizer, let alone a meal. This really stole the show, so much flavor packed into something you would look at as a simpler dish. My girlfriend got the ricotta and herb stuffed chicken, she liked it! I tried it and it was very good, the vegetables served with it were pretty good too. I got the short rib, the short rib melted in your mouth as you ate it. It was so good, the sauce that came with it didn't have much flavor unfortunately but it didn't take away from anything. The mashed potatoes were also pretty good too! The only thing I found lacking was the service, it seemed I needed water and nobody was around. I had to ask twice to get something, we didn't get our silverware until our meal began. We had to ask twice for the check. They didn't seem packed, it was my first time at the restaurant and I don't know if the service was normally like this. If it's your first time going here: ORDER THE BANANA PEPPER DIP!!! It might be the only reason I might ever go back for. read more

The ambience is why I'm here because you could sit out on the patio and have a drink at in the winter and they put the heater sign for you and the heaters are fantastic. My husband and I used to love this place. The ambiance is cozy and the food is good. Service and food were fine during this visit. However, we left saying we won't go back due to the parking attendant and extra charge. They added a $2 kitchen appreciation to our bill. This didn't bother me but my husband felt they should just build this into the prices. We parked in their parking lot and were going to check out the new bar across the street (literally just look inside) and the parking attendant started yelling at us saying we couldn't leave our car there. We explained we just ate at the restaurant and were just looking at the bar across the street but he gave us attitude so we decided to leave instead. We said this is a bad business practice to treat your customers this way after spending money at the restaurant to which he said they had more reservations coming in and they needed the parking spaces. Tried to go here for dinner at 5PM on a Tuesday. We were told that there was absolutely no way that 7 people could be accommodated at any point that night. Parking lot was mostly empty as was the restaurant. Multiple large booths and tables were empty with no customers in sight. This is not the first time this has happened to me at this establishment. I have been here multiple times over the past few years and the service and food has always been mediocre. I have had family members who have had to wait for well over an hour for their meals to be served. Although this is considered a popular Buffalo establishment, I would not recommend it to anyone. Love coming here every year for our Tom and Jerry's. I'm so glad they found a way to do it outside. Honestly it's always a little crowded here which isn't their fault (because they are awesome) but it makes for a cramped experience sometimes, so it was nice to be able to get all of our favorite stuff and go home. They had a really awesome set up for outside dining though and I appreciated all the lengths they went to ensure their customers safety. The Tom and Jerry's were *chefs kiss* so good even though we made them at home. Wings are also top notch and we had the Mac and cheese with the in house bacon which is sooo good. Again. The Buffalo chicken sandwich was ginormous and it's large enough for two people. It was very large but it did lack a little kick, to be honest. My husband and I were looking for a place to have Sunday lunch during the Garden Walk this past weekend, and were feeling worn out when we came up to The Place. Since it was open and I was too tired to keep walking, we decided to give it a try. We both ordered the mac and cheese. He got it with buffalo chicken, and I had it traditional-style. Even though the mac is listed under the small plates section of the menu, it's more than enough for one person to eat as an entree. It's pretty impressive-looking, since it comes to the table in a small skillet, with cracker crumbles on top. Taste-wise, it was bland. The sauce on my husband's looked darker, probably because of the buffalo hot sauce, but he said his also lacked zip. But the amount of chicken was pretty generous. On the lunch menu, there's very little that's vegetarian-friendly; my only other real choices were some of the salads. I'm not expecting a pub to be a vegetarian paradise, but having one vegetarian option in the sandwich section of menu would be nice, even if it were as simple as a grilled cheese. The ambiance and service were nice, and we were able to recharge, but since the only vegetarian choices are a lackluster mac and cheese and some salads, I don't think this is a return destination for me, as long as I have the energy to walk to other restaurants nearby. read more

I went to The Place for the second time tonight with my boyfriend. I got the chicken caesar salad with a glass of Pinot Grigio and he got the buffalo chicken sandwich (his new favorite sandwich) and then an order of the Mac and Cheese to take home. The salad was excellent, with homemade croutons and a tasty dressing. My boyfriend is still talking about how much he loved the chicken sandwich. One of my friends recommended this place so we made reservations for Friday at 6:15. My friend said they only had reservations open for outside seating which was fine but once we walked inside to check in, I wish we had gotten a table inside. It was so cozy and the Christmas decor was adorable. It felt like I was in a Hallmark movie. That feeling dissipated when we were sat right outside the front door. Thankfully there was a blazing heater above us but the chairs and table were tight and close to other tables and didn't have the same cozy feeling. We both started with the Hot Buttered Rum, which was delicious. We also ordered the traditional Mac & cheese and some burgers. The Mac looked amazing coming out but fell a little short- it mostly tasted like the breadcrumbs dusted on top- a bit bland. I got a regular burger and my friend got one of the burgers on the special. I ordered medium and she medium rare- guess it got switched up in the kitchen because mine was bloody. Otherwise, it was okay. Nothing special. The fries had the same feeling. Overall I was satisfied but a bit disappointed since my friend talked so highly of the place. I went here for the first time the day before thanksgiving and I was so impressed with The Place. First off they serve my favorite holiday drink the Tom and Jerry. I was so happy to hear that they have this drink. Not many places in Buffalo serve it anymore. It was so tasty. Then I had the French onion soup which was out of this world along with the truffle chips. Everything we had was delicious. The atmosphere was so inviting and warm you felt like you were at your house just with a lot more people. The Place would be a great date night spot. The bar was big and crowded but that only means it's a great place to go. The staff was great to. We didn't make reservations but they quickly found us a seat even though they were super busy. I've been here a few times and the food is consistently good. The last time I was here I had the wedge salad with steak. My steak was cooked perfectly and they were able to sub pickled red onions for regular onion which was awesome! The person I was with got the lobster roll and it was pretty large/very filling. The outside patio/deck is really nice, but filled with bees around this time of year so watch out. They did have a bee trap nearby, but they swarmed our plates anyways. The inside has plenty of seating and a huge perk of this restaurant is that it has a parking lot which is so rare in the Elmwood Village.
