Oh, and they were all super friendly. I guess management changed a few years back and so did all the staff - now I'm surprised when someone even acknowledges my presence, let alone asks me how my day is going. Pricey, like most beer and wine stores, and has a small selection. I tend to only go here if I happened to be in that neck of the woods and it's ten minutes to 11pm so I don't have time to go anywhere else. The bar could be good, but honestly I've never felt the need to go check it out.

Inedible, can't cut it with a serrated steak knife. Replaced with (clearly, I have had many!) a premade all-beef patty... also fine, but really oily. Edible. Not great. -1 Spinach pie (on a menu made by people who think they know that no one will know what spanakopita is (but will know saganaki?) Um... yeah. Not bad. Again: none if this was bad. It just also wasn't very good. Not enough phyllo, nowhere near enough butter to make it... well... put it this way: it was soft. A few crispy crumbs, but this was like when you take the leftovers home and put them into a Tupperware and then tomorrow... maybe the day after, you take them to lunch and microwave them. Soft. Not strongly flavoured. Not buttery. Should not have put them in the fridge. No cheese flavour at all. -1 I have had better greek food at Earl's. The bar offerings are meager but the beer offerings are excellent. Browns is located all over Vancouver ... A sign that they might be commercially successful. We were there on a Friday night. The place was 1/3 full. A place serving beer on a college campus that has little other competition and it is only 1/3 full on a weekend night? Either UBC students are unusually hard working and they are all in the lab on Friday night ... Or they are doing their drinking elsewhere. I would not rule out the first theory. UBC may indeed be a nerd school. * * * We ordered fish and chips/fish tacos. Both fish dishes are a small percentage of the Brown's food menu. The fish was absolutely uninspired. My fish and chips were grim. My wife enjoyed her tacos more because there were trimmings on top to hide the fish. * * * My beer was absolutely outstanding. But then there are many many many many many many places in Canada that serve good beer. Finding good beer in Canada is as easy as finding rain in Vancouver. * * * The jury is out on Brown's pending a checking out of their non-fish dishes. But frankly, given how much amazing food there is in the Vancouver area ... Why would I want to bother? ******** Key Insight From Reading the Other Yelp Reviews: Browns is expensive given the going rates for bars and grills in BC.
