Got a kitten from here and he had ringworm & fleas. I got ringworm on my face from him. They make you sign something so they aren't liable for the health problems. My younger sibling got a rat here that bit her and started having eye issues- may be unrelated but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. God, where to begin. First and foremost, this place is an animal rights nightmare and is needs to be shut down asap. How this place has managed to stay in business for as long as it has, but with the complaints of animal abuse/neglect and filth going back for years, is absolutely flooring to me. This entire shop is a biohazard. As the other reviews say, the most noticeable thing about this place is the absolutely putrid smell that fills the store. When you walk in you feel like you just walked into a hoarders house, animal cages and products stacked floor to ceiling and crowding the walk way. Dark dim lighting so you cant get a good view of all the abused and dirty animals to truly take in how severe the abuse and neglect of these animals is.. When I went they had a cage of kittens who looked horribly sick, one was so bloated, likely from worms, and they all had crusty eyes and runny noses. I came in hoping to get some nerite snails for my aquarium, and the woman working led me over to the tank and showed me them. The tanks looked super dirty, and the snails were all mystery snails. When I asked the price, since it wasn't listed, she told me $6.99. The lady was very nice to my face and I didn't want to be rude so I bought some, but once I got home I noticed that all the snails had chips or holes in their shells and dark and dirty. When I went online to research the snails I saw that they were the cheapest type of snail you could get, typically going for $1-$2 each. Like other reviews say, not only is this place horribly abusive to all the animals they sell, they scam you on price. All the other negative reviews are spot on accurate. If you care about animals please report this place to animal control/aspca/humane society as I have. I was shocked to read this shop has been having the same issues for over 15+ years and have been allowed to continue for this long. It's genuinely sad and vile. All the positive reviews are so obviously fake if you've ever actually stepped one foot in there and seen it yourself, and likely made by the owners friends to try and make this place seem it's not as bad as it seems and down play the bad reviews. Please please don't give this place money. It needs to be shut down and it's sickening and depressing to think of all the animals this place has been allowed to neglect and abuse and kill. Disgusting. Drive the extra 15 mins to Snohomish and go to bridges pets where the prices are fair and the animals are actually well taken care of and everything's CLEAN. read more

They do sell many animals here and most of them look really unhappy in the 2"X2" cage they are given. They do have a decent selection of fish, but the smell alone keeps driving me out! read more

I bought a bunny here and was told that it was a girl. I then took my bunny to get spayed, but soon found out after that my bunny was a boy and NOT a girl. Seems like they don't know much about their animals by their false advertisement.. Very disappointed. Also, the amount of animals and breeding at this pet shop is unhealthy! Cages are stuffed with animals who have little room. When I see recently born gerbils or hamsters stuffed in an overcrowded cage with adult gerbils or hamsters trampling over them, it makes me sad. So here's the deal with pet stop. The store is not the cleanest in the entire world. By a long stretch. But the owner is super amazing and her attention to detail is out of this world. I have never and I have lived in seven countries, never seen such a meticulous job on my animal. She treated my dog like she was family. Not only did she leave without any issues with shedding,but my dogs breath smelled so amazing! Just look past the store and get to the heart of the matter what an amazing job. And you can't beat the price is too! $20 and I was paying over $55 for my 9 pound Chihuahua rat terrier mix. This is where you want to take your dog in the Seattle area. Drive the half hour to get here. It is worth every penny and then some. read more

This place is wretched. The smell of urine hits you as soon as you walk in. The floor is littered with a wide variety of animal droppings. One of my friends turned around and walked out immediately. Not wanting to seem rude, my fiancé and I took a quick turn around the store. I wish we hadn't. In addition to being completely disorganized, the animals were kept in tiny, unkempt, jerry-rigged cages. The rats and rabbits in particular were cramped too many to a cage. Some didn't have food or water. One mother rabbit and her six-eight babies were being kept in a 15-gallon aquarium. We witnessed two of the store employees 'cleaning' a bunny cage-- they simply opened the cage, manhandled the rabbit out, and emptied a tray of feces kept under the cage's wire floor (which, incidentally, is horrible for bunny feet). The older of the two employees actually warned the other not to handle the rabbit so roughly, upon which Bunny Basher (as she shall be called from this point on) rolled her eyes at us and told the other employee that she wouldn't have to if the bunny didn't struggle so much. In short, this place is foul, and even if what they're doing to their animals is legal, it certainly isn't right. read more

They also help keep the unwanted cat population lower by watching, feeding, and giving shots to them on their own dime (with the hope of mainly recouping their costs) all while finding new homes that want the kittens. I live in Monroe, so I've been here quite a few times. Yes, all of the animals look rather unhappy, and they are quite overpriced. I purchased my gorgeous tabby cat here, and it nearly died of worms before we realized something was wrong and took the poor kitten in. Now, she's healthy and happy. If you're in the mood to save an animal, this would be the place to go. The store itself smells awful, and is very tiny. And they wont sell you feeder fish unless you're eighteen, and that is very obnoxious. read more

I used to go here every now and then when I lived in Monroe. It's jot the cleanest, but everyone seems nice and I prefer smaller companies. When I moved, I decided to give them my chinese water dragon because I thought they would take good care of him and I was afraid that I may not be able to. I brought him in with a 55 gallon tank and lots of stuff for him to jump on and his lights. They moved him to a smaller cage and said they would sell him with all his stuff. He was really active, a good weight, and a nice bright green. We went back about four months later and he was super skinny, a really dark green, and has scabs on his mouth that may or may not be mouth rot. I decided to take him back and they didn't even have his old cage anymore or his lights or anything. He hadn't been exposed to uv rays in about 4 months, which are super important for reptiles. I took him home, got him some water, gave him a bath, and got him to eat. He was automatically doing better. If they had taken maybe 10 minutes out of their day, they could have helped him. Why would a pet store not only take in an animal they had no knowledge of how to care for, but not give it away or take it to a vet when it is so obviously suffering? To be fair, the lady that helped us was very nice and helpful. But that is literally the only good thing about this store. read more

As soon as I walked in to the pet stop I was greeted kindly by the manager. I loved how the staff made conversation and helped me find my way around the store. I could tell the animals were treated with respect and we're held often because of how calm they were when being taking out of their cages. Over all amazing service! read more

NASTY place!! Don't go! I went in and was first greeted by a stench of feces and dead animals. The first walk through I was trying to find a specific food, which they didn't have, very limited selection. The second time around the store I noticed that ALL of the tanks were PILED with animals; 6+ full grown BIG rats, ALL pregnant, AND a giant pile of two litters of rat pups in the corner - and that was one of the better cages. The rabbits are all in tiny 2x2 cages, most are pregnant or just had their littler and now have even less rom in their cage. Aside from the terrible housing, I saw plenty of cages that hadn't been cleaned for a long time, I also saw a few animals on the verge of death, a gerbil pup thats mother was sold so it was left for dead in the cage, one gerbil who panicked and was eating her pups, and a DEAD gerbil in one cage while the others ran over it and nibbled on it.. EVEN though they are just breeding feeders, there is still a such thing as being HUMANE and caring for these animals. They also have fish. they don't look healthy, there are about 3x too many fish per tank, but it's not as crowded as the rodents. they are unhappy and sick. they are not eating - the food they don't eat floats on the top of their tanks or bowls growing mold and algae. UNLESS you plan to rescue and rehabilitate a new pet, or run the risk of feeding your reptile something to make it sick, DON'T GO HERE!!! read more

Where to begin... this pet store stocks live animals that they house improperly. Fish in inadequate tanks, reptiles on improper substrate with unsatisgactory heat and humidity levels, birds with not enough toys, etc. However, what annoys the hell out of me is the retail sale of kittens. They take in kittens from irresponsible owners of unaltered cats, give the kittens a $10 vaccine, and then sell them for $100... without spaying or neutering them, thereby practically ensuring mote and more generations of unwanted cats. ZERO STARS!!! Went in with the family a couple of weeks ago to purchase two plecostomus for our 6 year old's aquarium. Explained to the owner that we had goldfish and a couple of white clouds and the owner explained how to acclimate the plecostomus to the tank. We also purchased $80 of supplies. Within three days both fish were dead, so we went back. I explained to the employee working that day that we had followed the instructions exactly and asked what might have happened. She just said, "It happens." I then said I knew it wasn't the shop's fault that they had died, but asked if any of the cost could be recuperated since they had died so quickly. She replied with a snotty, "No!" I wasn't looking to get money back, but it would have gone a long way to offer a few dollars towards the purchase price of more fish. She obviously knew we had a fish tank and would need more supplies, so would be repeat customers. They have lost my business and we won't be back! As a side note, we went to another pet store and were told that a plecostomus should never have been recommended for a goldfish tank. Goldfish need water at room temperature which would have been too cold. read more

They sell kittens who they claim are UNDER 2 pounds (or else they would spay/neuter them) with some cheap shots, and no other vet care (like spay/neuter). They ask for kittens for free online and then sell them for $100+tax. Taking advantage of the poor suckers who love animals. Wish they cared enough to get them fixed. Clerk was rude and did not listen to what items I was looking for. I came in looking for a shirt that would fit my brother's ferret, because he was losing fur due to the medicine he was on. I asked the clerk if they had any, and she directed me to the cat toys. I repeated what I was looking for, and she brought me to the ferrets for sale. I finally gave up and left, and found a tiny ferret shirt at another pet store. The Pet Shop smelled of cigarette smoke and ammonia. The pets for sale looked absolutely unhappy, and they are living in tiny cages. read more

The prices are outrageous, the items for sale are covered with dust 1 " thick, the smell inside the store is horrible, the poor animals are probably not long for the world due to poor conditions (and I'm no expert but I do know how to feed and clean animals), and the staff memebers are scary (Halloween scary) to look at and be around. I no longer even look at the shop as I drive by. I always go to "Pet Pros" or "Sam's Cat & Dog Naturally" for my pet supplies. If I want to buy an animal, I'm sure I'd have better luck buying off on Craig's List. read more

Do not shop here unless you like to support Animal Neglect and Abuse..... I hate that I have to give this store a star at all! As a small animal rescue, I was told many horror stories about this place and have taken in over 72 rats that originated from this store! We have paid over $1000 in vet bills to help the rats that they are continuing to be breed with genetic teeth problems and covered in lice. I finally ventured out yesterday and went to this disgusting small animal mill! I could not sleep after visiting this store thinking about all those poor over bred lice infested creatures with barely any room to turn around. I have filed a complaint with Snohomish County animal control. I am going to do everything in my power to get this store shut down. I will have nightmares for a very long time thinking about the crazy sales lady who was telling me, "this bunny and this bunny got married and she is expecting." She went down the bunny line and told me this for 6 sets of bunnies! She was proud that the father rats were left in the aquariums with the mothers and 5 other female rats, so they could risk the father getting aggressive and killing the babies from his overcrowding aggression and of course get every single rat in the tank pregnant and the baby rats were old enough for adoption so that means poor sweet innocent baby female rats will be getting pregnant at 5 or 6 weeks old. She tried to tell me they breed for temperament. I don't even think she knows the definition of this word, because most of the rats that I have taken in have needed to be neutered due to aggression issues. Please send me a message if you have witnessed this store and would like to help get this horrible disgusting animal mill shut down. I could go on for days describing this disgusting nightmare of what they call a pet store. I'll just have to work to get them shut down instead. The store does smell a little when you walk in due to the small space and over abundance of rodents, etc... but I found it tolerable. I found the girl on the sales floor to be very nice and friendly. They have way too many animals stuffed into one one tiny space, too many rats in tanks, rats should never be housed in tanks anyway, but it makes it worse when there are way too many per tank. Rabbits in tiny little wire cages where they can barely move. I felt so bad for the animals. I found them to be a little too overpriced, you would think they would lower the price to help get rid of same and make some more space. I think they genuinely care about the animals as I saw the sales people talking to them and petting them, it is down to ignorance and lack of knowledge and too many animals which makes their bedding dirty very fast. read more

The manager Tracy is so kind and helpful. I came in hoping to find some information on feeder rats and mice and was delightfully surprised on their selection of rat and mice sizes as well as the prices. Tracy also had multiple ball pythons and was very knowledgeable. The store was clean, and these reviews I am reading about smell are rude. You cant expect it to be perfect every single day, its a pet store with a TON OF RODENTs, what do you expect. Despite that, it didn't smell bad AT ALL when I went in, and the cage sizes were perfectly FINE for the rats, mice and gerbils. Tracy offered me some oil for my snakes bad shed, and even let me hold one of the large ball pythons she had, which was very calm and sweet, and obviously used to being held and handled. She even told me to bring in my three pythons to be looked at, and offered to do a feeding session in her feeding tank. I can tell that the employees care for their animals and take pride in their work. I spend most of my time in Kent WA, and I make the drive to Monroe just to go to The Pet Stop. I recommend with 5 stars and 2 thumbs up. read more

I like their selection of birds, exotic ones you cannot find in most places. They also have cute dwarf rabbits. The smell is kinda strong though, but it doesn't bother me because I usually don't spend too much time at any pet store. Their prices are lower compared to petco. read more

I shop at the Pet Stop because it's near home, I like to support the local businesses and have found that, even though it's not the best kept shop, they are a small business trying to keep up with the big guys. I've never had a fish die that they didn't replace it, help with fixing a pump or explaining how to get something fixed. This pet store has been needing to be removed from business for a long time. When you walk in you immediately see messes on the floor and the smell of the store is foul, not a regular animal smelling establishment. The cages are way too small for each animal as they are stacked on top of one another and can't even move. How can a mother rabbit raise her babies in a 2x2 cage? Not to mention the enclosures are disgusting and need to be cleaned out so the animals avoid illness. Nobody wants these poor pets because they are simply not taken care. During my last visit I was looking for a tortoise light bulb and had asked the woman here a question on what kind I need and she had no idea, therefore not helpful at all and might I add rude and unkept. This place needs to be shut down right away, it is beyond an inappropriate environment for all those animals and could be labeled at this point as animal cruelty. read more

I feel sick....That store is so disgusting, I can't wait to get home and take a shower.The horrible smell is so strong it was burning my nose. Rabbits are sitting in small cages stacked on top of eachother, some rabbits are so big I don't think they can even stand up in the small cage they are placed in. One rabbit was laying on its side breathing really hard and looked like it was suffering and going to die. What is wrong with this place and the people who work there. Another thing is the poor birds are stacked on top of eachother in small cages with poop piled up on the perches they are supposed to stand on. All the birds feathers are in really bad condition and they are all fed the same seed diet....one of the birds is a medium sized bird (mini macaw) and is eating the same seeds as the finches. The birds are not getting the right food and have small dirty cages. DO NOT BUY anything from this store you will only be supporting them. Going in that store ruined my day and now all I can think about is those poor animals. read more

Literally so many problems with this place. It all started when she sold me my cat, told me she was a boy, and that there were no ear mites. I take her to the vet find out she is in fact a girl, and has mites! No biggie just a small vet bill, but I went back forgivingly and told her. She didn't really care. I then buy a tank for my snake, she holds up the lid and says it fits, has me purchase everything and says come back and pick up the tank. We come back lug it home just to find it didn't fit. This being a preowned tank, we didn't have an original lid. We trusted she knew the lid fit, it was her store in fact. So she called around trying to find us a lid that fit. So when all else failed we brought it back. But she says "Unfortunately this tank is a non-returnable item." She DID NOT tell us this when we purchased the tank. My fiancé and I both said that she didn't, though she continued to insist she did. She shrugs her shoulders and says oh well. Tracy is an awful manager. And just wants to make money. Don't go here. Admittedly in the past this store has been pretty icky, but they have cleaned themselves up a bit since then. It's still a bit dusty but the stench that other reviewers have mentioned is completely absent. They don't have a very large stock of animals particularly fish, but I have noticed a definite change in the cleanliness of the store. Monroe is a small town and so the store is also small but I go there for fish and Denice has proven to me to be very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The fact that they took in a ferret that survived a house fire tells me that they do care about the welfare of animals. As far as customer service goes (which is a huge deal maker or breaker in my opinion), the people at this store are top notch. Bridges pets (my only other choice for fish that isn't very far away) is just another franchise out to make a buck. They have terrible customer service and their tanks run on one filtration system which allows disease to spread very quickly. Where as the pet stop has separate systems for each tank. I'm giving The Pet Stop three stars for customer service and for effort. read more
