place was a good size for a bite with friends where it isnt too big that it isn't too loud but spacious enough! pretty good shareable size for all dishes except for the octopus, haha. smaller than thought. seafood pasta was creamy and my favorite dish!

Luckily this restaurant is right near the Westin where I was staying. It's a cute restaurant with some Greek decor. Comfy seating and great service. My waitress Alina seemed like she was always smiling and it made for a very positive experience. Plus the chicken Souvlaki plate was delicious! The chicken was so tender and nicely seasoned. The veggies and potato wedge were a good complement. It came with a side of fresh warm pita with tangy sweet sauce. The prices was very reasonable. Really good Greek Mediterranean food!

Moussaka

Ordered a moussaka for lunch ($36 after tax/tip). It's rich and comforting without becoming greasy, heavy, or mushy. Overall nice balance of flavors and textures, with an excellent béchamel sauce that really stood out. I just wish there had been a bit more eggplant in the dish. Also, the dish was a bit too salty for my palette. Unfortunately, it wasn't heated evenly throughout, though I didn't feel like sending it back to the kitchen. That said, the service was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the setting was lovely and comfortable overall.

What an amazing experience over all! Everything about it was special. First we were greeted by the owner Cem who kindly and quickly got us a table ready which was amazing as a walk in of 7 on a Friday night. The vibe of the restaurant was beautiful so clean too and homey. Keenan was our server and the best thing about him was he did his job so well didn't over serve but nailed every standard of hospitality service on the head. The foood woowwww! The burger was out of this world for someone who doesn't like burgers. The pomegranate souvlaki too was out of this world and would be my necessity try! Finally the steak was tasty the pastas too all cooked to perfection. Food was crisp clean and presented well not greasy or overly buttered. The pita bread too and the salsa though so simple was so yum!

I love Greek food and am always seeking out new local places. If you have other recommendations in the north bay, please direct message me! With that said, this was delicious!! I loved everything and can't wait to go back and try other dishes. The night before we went to a fancier place and the prices were double, the portions were halved, and the flavors didn't even come close... Next time, we'll start here!

My husband and I ordered from The Parthenon and everything was absolutely delicious. The mushroom and chicken Alfredo was perfection--the sauce was rich and on point, the chicken was tender and cooked just right, with a good amount of mushrooms that complemented the dish well. We also had the lamb, which was incredibly tender and full of flavor, and the pita bread on the side was the perfect touch. Such a satisfying, comforting meal all around. Definitely coming back soon! Ambiance was swanky and service was great!

Hummus (Vegan) & Steak Souvlaki Plate

A group of friends and I came for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty with only one other table. We were greeted & sat at our table right away. A few of my friends tried their cocktails which they enjoyed. I had the Greek iced coffee which I loved. We started with a bunch of appetizers including the hummus, tzatziki (both came with pita), feta and olives, dolmathes, & spanokapita. My favorite was the fresh baked & still warm pita with the hummus & tzatziki! The texture and flavor of the hummus was perfect. I usually really love dolmathes, but these had cinnamon which I didn't particularly care for. For my entree I had the steak souvlaki, the steak was tender & flavorful. Overall the service was attentive, friendly & quick & the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend it!

Not your typical Mediterranean menu selection, some dishes that were pretty good like muosakka, avgolemono soup and qaoanakopita. . Came here on Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. Got an early seating since it's a popular place. Pretty big place with two entrances. Service was ok, took a little longer to order, get our food and pay but is understandable. Recommend you Uber there or park in an indoor office building parking.

Before we caught a show downtown, we wanted to try The Parthenon for dinner. Yelp led us here since we rarely eat in this area. Upon entering this restaurant, there's a middle aisle to walk down towards their bar, but no host to greet patrons at the door. So we stood there for a minute making sure that was indeed the front door. I almost went back outside to make sure there wasn't another entrance. But someone noticed us and took us to a table, despite not having a reservation. The place was filling up too! It was busy for a Thursday evening! ***OUR PICKS*** PITA BREAD ~ This was complimentary. Soft pita bread with what tasted like puréed tomatoes and seasoning. Almost like salsa. MELITZANOSALATA ~ eggplant, tomato sauce, garlic, onion. This was a cold appetizer. Not quite what I had envisioned. I was expecting more of a dip, but this was big chunks of eggplant in tomato sauce. It tasted just as it was described without any surprises. 3/5 ROKA SALAD ~ Arugula, beets, goat cheese, fennel, pomegranate molasses. Sweet tasting salad because of the pomegranate molasses as a dressing. I think the feta cheese could have been broken down to smaller pieces. It overpowered the arugula. Maybe some pecan nuts would have offset the cheese. 3/5 SEAFOOD PASTA ~ Pappardelle, clams, mussels, prawns, salmon, octopus, fennel, shallots, garlic, ouzo. Good mix of seafood, though there wasn't much pappardelle. It was flavorful, but portions were small. 3.5/5 LAMB SOUVLAKI ~ lamb skewers, vegetables, tzatziki. You get 8 cubes of lamb, broccoli, beans, carrots, and a large potato wedge with creamy, yet a bit too salty, tzatziki. I asked for medium rare and it came purple, so they cooked it longer and it turned out medium to well done. The lamb was good, though it was more tender when it was purple. Tasty dish, but I found the tzatziki was overly salted. If I hadn't asked for medium rare, it probably would have been better. 3.5/5 In my opinion, the food was about 3.5 stars, nothing extraordinary. Maybe we didn't order the right dishes or we had high expectations. Service was attentive and friendly. The dining room was very loud and it echoed where you can't hold a conversation without straining to hear. The restaurant had a Greek lounge type vibe that could be romantic, if the walls didn't echo.

Gyro and salad

First stop in San Francisco. We were hungry and this place was right next to our hotel. I ordered the gyro with salad. It was just the right amount of food for lunch. The meat was tender and packed with flavor and the salad was light and refreshing. Good combination. I decided to try the Agean Old Fashion as well, and that was quite smooth with a slightly different take on the original. Place was bright and open with the typical Greek decor. Even had a picture of Spartacus hanging up on the wall. Service started off great, but our waitress kinda got distracted with another table and spent much of her time talking with them. People were waiting to be served so that seemed unfortunate for the rest of us.

I'm not usually in the Tendernob in late morning unless I'm coming out of 450 Sutter for any variety of medical appointments. Yes, I'm at that age, my children. Anyway, I certainly wasn't expecting to find a sit-down Greek restaurant with reasonable lunch prices. Well, it depends on what you order, but hey, here we are. Surprisingly it wasn't saturated with suits and middle-aged matrons, and I was seated comfortably next to the front window. I wasn't looking for a plate-smashing feast though they offered mezes mostly in the $14-$17 range and more substantial plates in the $24-$38 range. I was feeling modest though admittedly ordered a soup and sammie combo which was more than I could handle. I first went with the $10 bowl of Avgolemono, as traditional a Greek lemon soup as I've had. It was a generous serving with chicken, rice, yogurt, egg, and plenty of lemon (Photo 10). The lemon was a squeeze more than I could handle, and truth be told, I left quite a bit despite the fresh flavors. I had better luck with the $15 Lamb & Beef Gyro Ssndwich where I wisely chose the side salad over the fries. The pita was pillowy with the beef and lamb gyros slathered in tzatziki and festooned in cucumber slices, grape tomatoes, and white onion. The veggies were replicated in the side salad along with shredded lettuce (Photo 9). Delicious. FOOD - 4 stars...generous portions for the price, fresh flavors, soup a bit too lemony AMBIANCE - 4 stars...spacious when it isn't packed with suits SERVICE - 4 stars...cordial enough TOTAL - 4 stars...worthy of a return to try the other dishes RELATED - Exploring Nob Hill? beets salad with chicken skewers, grilled fish, octopus appetizer
Kelly A.

The food was so delicious! Our favorite was the grilled fish, perfectly seasons, crispy skin, every bite left us wanting more. The appetizer sampler is not on the menu but would definitely recommend to ask for it to try small portions of everything. We were a bit confused as to why the pita bread came with a salsa like dip but it wasn't off putting. The octopus was also very good, wished the portion was bigger. We loved the ambiance, it was clean and had a modern feel. Everyone was very friendly. It was a great lunch experience!

Incredible meal and great service! I kept thinking the meal was over and more tasty dishes kept on coming out, and each one almost topped the previous one. The staff was great and in particular, Laura from was wonderful and made the experience even better. Excited to come back to The Parthenon soon!

Octopus with capers and lemon juice. This was after being cut some it's a large piece to share!

Kokkari is as good as it gets for what I love. Especially Mediterranean/Adriatic: fish, lamb,…read moregarlic, olive oil, & lemon. Of course a Greek emphasis, but lots of intersection with my Croatian-American culinary heart! The smelts are fishy in a good way, nice crunch, texture, tang of lemon, & sharpness of garlic spread. Very difficult to find, never mind getting it right. The octopus & stuffed calamari were the right texture, seasoning, & flowing with olive oil. Finished with some greens. What a treat! Pro-tip: get the smelts, be bold. My wife raved about her moussaka. Artisan. Nice hint of cloves, right amount of yogurt béchamel. The lamb, beef, eggplant (not watery), & potato all stood out. My sons loved their salmon & chicken. I sampled and confirmed. My bronzino was FANTASTIC. This one was big & better quality than I usually buy. I got it with bones, head, & skin. Poured on olive oil, more salt, & garlic. Yeah, gotta use the hands, chew...graciously pulling out the bones, looking as civilized as possible. Folks, this is Mediterranean: a great fish should be eaten like this. Crisp skin, get the meat from the cheeks & head. Again: emphasis on olive oil mixed with fish juices from bones & lemon! We were stuffed and shared a Baklava. Nobody does it better. Except James Bond, 007, but in a different context. 2 glasses of wine & 2 Shirley Temples for kids. The service was excellent. Attentive. We were in the back & it wasn't loud. Classy servers & classy people enjoying themselves. Oh: great portions too. $407, including 20% tip. Great value for what you get. We've come here for special occasions. They've strengthened the bond, we'll be back more often. So reminiscent of what I eat in Croatia when I visit. Thank you Hellas!

Don't talk to me I'm eating…read more Once in a while a plate of food puts you in a trance enough to sit there eating silently with your friend. Don't talk. Just let me eat first. Thoughts going through my head "how can this taste so good," "I wasn't expecting this tonight," "this is the most tender gyro meat I've ever had," "how nicely this sauce pairs with the rice." Service was so friendly. Walked in for Friday dinner cus it's try a new restaurant night. Surprised it was empty. They got quite a bit of takeout orders but no one eating in there. Only the workers in there. Was greeted immediately with a smile. Wasn't sure if I had to order then seat myself or politely ask to get a table first. Sometimes it's confusing at some places, I didn't want to be weird. Asked for a table then server brought menus to us. But the next person who walked in just ordered and paid right away at the cashier then sat down. So I don't know. I wasn't given water with my sit down meal. Cus I ordered the food without mentioning water, so it must be one of those don't ask don't get kinda things. As requested. FOOD: *lamb & beef gyro plate: what is this goodness! Meat is so tender. How nicely it sits on top of this rice. Pour some tzatziki sauce over both and eat it. Delightful. Comes with a side of seasoned tomato much like a salsa consistency. There was a red liquid salsa sauce too on this plate so you can pick what you want to dip your meat into *hummus with chicken kabob: o what now this is something new I haven't tried! Delicious! The garbanzo beans are blended enough that the hummus is completely smooth. Good salty flavor. Comes with triangle pieces of bread oops I mean pita to dip. I slathered the hummus all over my pita. Pita was swimming in hummus. Why not, cus they give you plenty of hummus in that bowl. How many times did I shout "delicious" throughout and after this meal. Maybe 4 times. Am I talking to myself or to my friend. Doesn't matter. Sangria available in glass, half, and full size So clean inside. Got that new restaurant feel.

I've only had the falafel burger and the falafel plate, and both were delicious. The fries are also…read morereally good. As a takeout place, Gyros and Tzatziki normally gets four stars, but as a restaurant, it's definitely three stars, and I'll tell you why. This place needs better management. Failing that, one of the three guys who is normally working when I come needs to take charge, because the current setup isn't working. You order at the counter, which is common at many San Francisco restaurants. One of the three guys will help you, but sometimes, one of them is just sitting or standing a few feet away from the cash register, but he won't acknowledge your presence. It's as if only people who will actually take your order are allowed to speak to you. Once you do (eventually) place your order, you're in for a wait. If you're eating in, that's all right, because the food is definitely worth the wait, and the small seating area is normally comfortable. If you're taking it to go, however, they refuse to say anything about where to be while waiting. I normally just sit down at an empty table because I know it will be awhile, but when I stand, I always feel like I'm in someone's way. When they're busy, not only does your food take forever to come out, but the service just goes out the window. Again, only three guys working, including the chef, but why does one of the remaining two guys always seem to be so stand-around-looking-dumb lazy? And the funny part is that it's not always the same guy; the one I used to think was a hard worker was sitting in a chair near the back last time I came. It was like he was in a timeout; he wasn't looking at his phone, just yelling random things to the cook occasionally while the other poor guy had to deal with four different parties eating in, plus all the to-go orders. So order it to go before you arrive. Or sit down and try to figure out what's going on.
