Park Side is a delicious all-vegan cafe in West Olympia located inside of a gorgeous Victorian building (with rooftop seating in the summer) and next to a modest park. The interior seating area is charming and cozy, with views of the busy street. Staff are always in a good mood, making the service fast and accurate. Delivery orders are packed perfectly and with great care, too. We love all the food here, especially the breakfast lox bagel, and prepared with healthy ingredients. Sis and I visited the culinary supply store upstairs, so when we exited this place looked tempting and it probably is if you're a vegetarian, vegan, keto, gluten free, clean eating type. I am not that, but I am not opposed to it because I've been to a couple of vegan restaurants in LA and I was always pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. The dining area is tempting so we looked over the menu and the food in the case. Sis tried a salad and I tried nothing because nothing appealed to me and I think I made the right call because Sis, who is open minded to these types of restaurants, ate a few bites and tossed the rest in the trash. Five stars for the full experience. The Victorian-era styled building in West Olympia, The Park Side Café offers plant-based dishes in style. The cafe offers small tapas-like plates of assorted vegan-friendly offerings. I ordered the visually stunning, with loads of texture and taste, Moroccan Roasted Chickpea Kale Salad no dressing. Saving room for dessert, I could not resist sharing one of their giant chocolate chip cookies and a few bites of their German Chocolate cream pie with my kids. Like a typical cafe, you order at the register. We were greeted by friendly and attentive servers. My husband ordered the German potato salad, my daughter enjoyed the Seitan & Rice Burrito, and my son was meh on the Seitan Pepperoni Pizza Hand Pie. I myself, am not a huge fan of Seitan, so I wasn't really surprised they didn't like it either. Once you are finished eating, you can wander upstairs where there is a cute kitchen supply shop and another friendly face to greet you. It was fun checking out the unique building and walking by a gorgeous bed and breakfast owned by the same woman who opened this restaurant. The staff? Incredible! Everyone is so friendly, they answered all of my questions, and even apologized for the wait times. They're such a happy face for this lovely, little space! Did I enjoy my time? Yes. I opted for an oak milk cinnamon bun coffee and my wait for the coffee was easily 20 mins just from this spot being popular! I cannot say it was worth the wait for the coffee... it was beyond cinnamon bun sweet for me. I did like the flavor profile, but I think the sugar content may have been too high for me to enjoy this one. I also ordered the samosa hand pie and it was tasty, but a little bit dry. Now, let me talk about the mint chutney sauce, friends!! THE BEST I've had... ever. If I could drink this sauce like the food gremlin I am without getting worried looks shot my way... I 100% would. The front of house staff was so warm and welcoming and food was ready quickly- we are a large family of vegans (who have lived and eaten coast to coast for 40 years) and ordered a bunch- cabbage soup, apple handpie, pizza handpie, biscuits and gravy, apple cinnamon cheesecake, peanut butter chocolate pie, breakfast sandwich, apple strawberry cider, a tea , chocolate chip cookie and a hot chocolate. We read reviews before coming here and after eating here find any comparison to Wayside laughable- and we LOVE wayside (it's the west coasts closest version of the Chicago Diner or SoulVeg) but the food here is completely different . The flavors are understated but still there-- meaning your hand pizza has more delicate flavors that start with crust and end with the pepperoni - I'd guess most things are made in house or locally due to the lack of heaviness and saltiness you get with premade foods like beyond (typically used in every PDX vegan eatery). The breakfast sando was small and again not heavy its flavors were light and a bit overpowered by the wheat-yness of the English muffin but still delicious. The desserts were on the sweeter side and really smooth- the strawberry apple cider was too sweet for the adults, but very tasty and loved by the kids. We left feeling full, not heavy and pleasantly pleased. The whole feel is more upscale vegan brunch and while the place isn't "not for kids"- I'd enjoy it more if I didn't bring mine and could savor the food instead of playing fork wars with my offspring :) read more

We stopped here yesterday during a long, rainy road trip from Oregon. We were tired and cranky thanks to the hours spent in the car and the terrible weather...but this place cheered us right up! It has a bright, warm vibe and tasty food. We each got quesadillas and a hand pie. I got the enchilada hand pie and while it tasted nothing like an authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex enchilada, the flavours were delicious and I would happily order it again. The kale made it seem healthy too, ha. My friend got the creamy veggie hand pie and also loved it. The quesadillas again did not taste like authentic Mexican quesadillas but they were perfectly adequate. They came with salsa and a cashew cream dip that really hit the spot. I also got the PB&J cheesecake. It was decadant, but I would've like a little more of the jelly flavor. I'd like to try their other desserts in the future. This place has lots of little dishes that you can add together to form a "mixed plate," so it's fun to try a variety of things. Service was super friendly and the prices were reasonable. I would like to preface by saying that due to the business currently restricting ordering to an exterior window (due to their pandemic guidelines comfort level), it's very difficult to notice & appreciate the incredible work that went into designing the rest of this grandiose, charming & beautiful building (the interior basically now hidden). This piece of giant artwork was a crusty vacant lot up until just 2-3+ years ago and then, rising up from the land, a lovely turn-of-the-century 3-story (plus rooftop!) structure rose. And add in some sustainability efforts, too; you get a new modern turn-of-the-century structure for THIS turn-of-the-century (+20 years lol). For my interior experiences, I loved the artwork of the animals' portraits and rather contemporary western color motif (feels like a soft red stucco, with soft wood, & black. Even a dumwaiter elevator(!). The food is pretty decent. I haven't really found something I really like yet but the veggies are a good one to mix with just about anything there. brunchy things, reg things, salad things, etc. Just feels like clean, comforting diner fare. One odd dish I felt was tempeh in a cold sandwich. I've always had tempeh cooked in some form so that was a bit dry & drab. The pastries teased me a lot. The giant chocolate croissants were ridiculous and the ginger hand pie was yummy. At an old request, they've started labeling hot/cold items. Yay! The staff is wonderful & friendly. Feedback; I wish they substitute Pacific oat brand milk with Oatly or other non-organic product (but certified miniscule trace amounts of chemicals, such as glyphosate). It's complex but I prefer to avoid added gum thickeners in products. Improve labelling of hot/cord dishes. The dumwaiter elevator is a basic modern steel unit; the design conflicts with the rest of the interior. A lovely take out option for day trips, weekend gateways, etc. Walk to the nearby west central park for a nice picnic session, too. read more

Never having eaten veagan, we went for dinner here on a lark. We decided to order a ravioli dish and share in case we would decide to depart. The dish came to us warm but the flavors were deliciously complex. Noticeably the pesto sauce with traces of Anise or Fennel seeds. We decided to stay and order the Morrel risotto and a glass of wine and beer. The ambiance of the building is fantastic from the original fir plank floor to the mounding and finish work all is straight grained fir. I do not live in Washington State, but our daughter, does and I wanted to send her a birthday surprise. I was looking through Yelp for any vegan pastry's and thank goodness we Parkside ! I called and placed an order with help from a young lady who's name escapes my mind. But I would be remiss if I did not point out how extremely helpful and patient this young lady was with me. I told her about us not living in the state and that to make matters worse my daughters' car (Kia) had been stolen the previous night just before her birthday. I explained what I wanted and she was extremely helpful in helping us (my husband & I) make our selection. In addition, I also asked this kind young lady if she could PLEASE write a HBD to our daughter directly on the box. She was kind enough to say yes. Not the best vegan burrito I've had, but not bad at all either. I would have been intrigued to try more items on the menu, and wish I could have gotten small portions of a few of them. I also got the sunflower butter cheesecake. The texture was great for vegan cheesecake, but flavor was pretty bland. Hindsight, should have gone with a caesar salad instead of dessert. I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich - which came with a delicious seasoned tofu, quinoa lentil sausage, smoky soy cheese and a Sun-dried aioli; all encompassed in a freshly baked, gluten free English muffin! My taste buds were definitely seeing color with the fresh ingredients that meshed well together. For later in the day, I ordered the Caesar tofu wrap which came with seasoned grilled tofu, fresh local lettuce, shredded carrots, sliced onion, hemp caesar dressing - all wrapped in a flour tortilla. I really wanted to love this place because I always want to support vegan eateries, but their food was just lacking. The mushroom gravy was pretty tasty, but the garlic veggie sides I had was lacking any seasoning and was just plain boring. Thankfully I had the gravy to eat with the veggies to make it a little more exciting. My kids had the breakfast sandwich and a side of herb roasted potatoes. My kids said the potatoes were so bland with utterly real flavor, so they went heavy on the ketchup to make them somewhat enjoyable. The breakfast sandwich was also bland, it just lacked any real flavor--like they forgot to salt/season anything? I had a bite to see what my kids were saying, and sadly, they were right with their assessment. Maybe we just picked all the wrong items? Just a bummer. Staff was very slow to take the order, although it may have been they were new based on some comments they made. The wait time was around 20 minutes. They are serving as take out only for Covid reasons as of July 21, 2021, but the upstairs is open for sitting. The breakfast burrito was plain and had nothing interesting going on, despite staff saying the country gravy was going to have some spice. The biscuits and country gravy was better. Hooray! Olympia FINALLY has a fantastic vegan breakfast option! In a nutshell, everything about this place screams quality! THE FOOD: Everything was made from scratch down to the English muffins for the breakfast sandwich. Flavors were incredible and the food was very filling and satisfying. I had the B&G w/ a chicken fried seitan steak and was completely stuffed! The coffee was excellent and apparently free refills. Overall the food offerings were creative yet seemed relatable enough for omnivores, while still honoring their vegan mandate. We saw no menu nor was any listed online, so here is some of what we observed on offer around 11am on a Wed, served à la carte: - English muffin sandwiches with tofu egg, cheeze sauce, vegetable sausage patty - Biscuits - Creamy mushroom gravy - Chicken fried seitan patties - Handpies! (one was a samosa variety) - Breakfast burritos - Some sort of veg and tofu skillet - Cream cheeze & smoked carrot lox bagels - Cold pasta salads - Slices of homemade pies THE BUILDING: This building is a work of master craftsmanship. Copper/tin ceilings, custom ironwork, knotty pine floors, custom wood window frames, solid wood baseboards, even walnut caps on the edge of the solid wood staircases evidence great attention to detail and a high degree of skill. The owner clearly invested a lot of time and money into this project. What a gift to our city! Speaking of which, some of the best views of the west side are now to be had from the 3rd floor open rooftop seating area of this building. And when you're done eating, you can stroll around the adjacent community garden. Cons? All the lavish hard surfaces cause sounds to echo. You hear every conversation and, though the open kitchen design accentuates the gorgeous high tin ceilings, you also hear every chop on the cutting board, etc. That said, it's fair trade for such beautiful scenery. read more

The pros: - I love that we have another vegan restaurant in Olympia, - the outdoor seating is nice, - the dining area is cute and quaint The cons: - the line was long and moving slowly, which is fine and expected for a new restaurant, but there was no way to view what your food options are until you get right to the counter, so this causes a bit of a delay. - it's cafeteria/deli style, not fresh to order... can be done well but as of day 2 there was still a lot to be desired - they were out of 2/5 of their options, variety was relatively limited, and there wasn't many fresh vegetable options (rather grains/chickpeas/tofu/seitan)... - the food was bland and lacked spice... we ordered 5 options and the summer squash salad and key lime cheezecake was the best of them. - they were struggling to keep up with the lunch rush. No forks or water cups were out, and several dishes out so limited options... I ate with a spoon. What we ate: sanctuary pie, chickpea masala, broccoli and cheeze hand pie, summer squash salad, and key lime cheezecake. I'm hoping this new dig will get in the groove! read more
