Friendly and fun lake adjacent bar, with a basic menu you would expect at most taverns. Their forte is definitely their burgers. Many unique choices on the menu. They have a gigantic one (see my picture) I think it's like 1.8 lbs of meat!! I didn't order that, but a couple of guys sitting by us did. (They split it) It was crazy big, but actually looked cooked well and everything on it looked fresh and tasty. They said it was good. I did however, order a (regular) sized "build your own" burger and a side of onion rings. I liked my burger a lot. Definitely worth coming back for. Onion rings were also pretty good. My wife ordered the fish and chips basket. This meal was very average. Pretty much, your basic frozen battered fish, deep fried and served with okay French Fries. Still a good burger, but so much for a large burger and offering of fries. The last several times it's almost like they take an exact measurement of your allotment of fries and burger. The fish fry was breaded and undercooked. The service was okay, but even after they corrected my soggy fish, it wasn't anything I'd try again. Then there was the waiting and waiting... The old fashioned was weirdly cinnamon-y and so, overall, not a good experience. I prefer the place across the street, even with their bad service. read more

We really enjoyed Polish night at the Pad, the food was delicious and very reasonable. Pierogi, cabbage rolls and Polish sausage very good, authentic with the sausage having excellent flavor. We also had the potato pancake ( with apple sauce), very good too. Although I would have liked them a bit crispier. I think they are working on the menu to explain your options. Service not good. Waited 1 hour for food and then he came and said sorry it didn't go through but it's in now. The food came out 15 minutes later and was not at all what we ordered. Went to the Pad for dinner on a Wednesday evening. One of their specials is beef tips over your choice of mashed potatoes or noodles, and that comes with a vegetable and a fresh baked bun. The service was very good and the portions were excellent. The beef tips were tender and served in a beef gravy. Tasty and filling. Stopped in for the Friday night fish fry and it didn't disappoint - we ordered the cheese nuggets, mini corn dogs, the cod and shrimp plate, and the walleye plate as well as some London mules and really enjoyed everything. We were there tonight. After an HOUR we still didn't have our food but they kept coming asking if we wanted more drinks or appetizers. If they were running behind they should have told us how long the wait was. There are plenty more better restaurants around Shawano with better service. We won't be back. read more

Been to this place several times int the past year. Excellent burgers until new owner took over. Nice guy but food isn't as good as it was with previous owner. Orders have been placed wrong the last 3 times , burgers were dry and not medium rare as ordered. Not as generous size as before with close to same prices. Wait staff not as friendly as previous. I was taking a road trip to Nueske's and knew we needed a lunch stop. After some checking around on Yelp, I knew I had to try a cheeseburger here. The ambiance isn't much but that's not why you stop in bars up north any way. Service was prompt and very friendly. We had the cheese curds as our appetizer and they were good. The cheeseburger was one of the best I have ever had. I wish Shawano was closer to Milltown so I could stop in for a cheeseburger more often. The bun was even tasty. Great for those fried food cravings. The regular bar food was decent BUT I had the all-you-can-eat pollock fish fry for $9. Don't do it. Deep fried pieces of fishy rubber. Stick with the perch or cod if you must get fish. Mine came with a side of potato salad (solid), a slice of buttered rye bread, & coleslaw. Wait staff was friendly & prompt. Drinks were cold. Silverware was clean. All in all it's your average bar food. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but if I were in the area I would definitely stop in for a snack & a beer. read more

Good fried cheese curds (I like them a little squeaky and without too much added spice), local beers and really great draft root beer. There's not a healthy thing to be eaten, but it's a perfect destination for greasy bar food done right. Extremely casual, so don't dress too fancy unless you wanna look like you're from outta town. Huge volley ball courts in back and picnic tables for nice days round out the outside space, which overlooks the Shawano airport. I think it's mostly for charters, and the locals I stayed with say they've never seen a plane take off or land there so don't hold your breath for that kind of excitement. read more

We went over the summer and it was so hot in there you couldn't even enjoy your cold drink. You should be able to fix the cooling system for as much as you charge for food. Burgers are plain. This place IS fun. :) Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It's the perfect place to grab a draft beer with some friends or even by yourself. No one will make you feel like you're alone. We had the cheese nuggets. They were fried and delicious. My husband and I each had a burger and we were very satisfied! We opted for fries over chips, because I am only a chips person when salsa is around. They have nightly specials; they seemed very popular with the locals. I would describe this as more of a bar with food rather than a restaurant. Which I don't consider that a bad thing, just something to consider when deciding what kind of environment you are looking for. :) read more

I don't get it. They do such a good business, but I have a hard time understanding why. I stopped and had the Thursday pork. I was a mass of uninspired wet pulled pork on top of a pretty tired hard roll. I didn't enjoy the meal at all. Oh yeh I turned down the BBQ sauce on the side. That wouldn't make it BBQ meat. Yikes. This place easily had the worst service of anywhere I have been in a number of years. We went on a Monday for lunch, when there was only a single other table in the entire place occupied, yet it took over an hour for our food to come, and the waiter only visited our table twice: to take our drink and food order, then to drop off the terrible, overpriced food, but never again after that. Two of us got the Monday special, all-you-can-eat spaghetti and garlic bread. Kind of hard to order more when he never revisits the table, so we had to go up to the bar and ask for more bread. He seemed both unenthused and bothered by the request. About 20 minutes later, he brought out a whopping 3 pieces for the 2 of us, didn't refill our drinks, ask how anything was, or check if we would like to get our 2nd helping of spaghetti. We were not willing to wait doubly long for another order of from-the-can, bland spaghetti sauce over noodles, so we did not order more. After all this, the check was the worst part of the experience! My mother-in-law's grilled cheese (priced on the menu for $4.99 with fries) was the most expensive item on the ticket at $11.45 (more than the burgers, more than the wings, more than the not-all-you-can-eat all-you-can-eat mediocre spaghetti garbage). $.50 of this $11.45 meal was an itemized upcharge for cheddar on the grilled cheese. On. the. grilled. cheese. We didn't ask for cheddar (and they did not give us anything more than an individually-wrapped Craft single). Cheddar was not a specific request. We simply asked for a $4.99 grilled cheese with fries that they charged $8.50 for, pegged on $.50 for cheese, then charged separately for the fries, which were listed as part of the meal. Last I checked, a grilled cheese without the cheese is simply toast, and does not typically cost $8.50, especially when the listed price is half that. It was not worth arguing with the waiter on any of this, because his pea-sized brain couldn't comprehend what we were upset with. He was unfriendly, unapologetic, and terrible at his job. But at least we only had to get up from our chairs and ask him for a to-go box 3 times after that since he apparently had trouble keeping up with the two full tables he had. 1-star is a generous review, but it is the lowest option available. 0 out of 10, would not recommend. There are 0 redeeming qualities about this restaurant. This is my first and only review I have ever written, but I felt so compelled after such a poor dining experience. DO NOT patronize this terrible bar and grill with terrible service, terrible food and brain-dead staff. read more
