I wasn't really impressed. They have a nice selection on the menu. I tried a New York Steak, $16.99 with potato and soup or salad bar. Had the French Onion soup and it was pretty tasty. The shredded cheese didn't go far once it melted. The potato was really the only redeeming thing from the meal. I was totally disappointed with the steak. I don't even know how to describe it as I've never experienced it before. It was tender to the point of mushy. They cooked it mostly right but it just tasted weird. Then the grill marks were way over the top and I ended up cutting around them. I had excellent service and that combined with a big menu selection is why they earned 3 stars. Highly recommend this wonderful family owned restaurant. We stayed in the hotel next door and were super grateful for this restaurant. Everything we tried was delicious. We ate dinner and one breakfast here and nobody had anything but wonderful things to say about their food. Can get busy at times with the hotel next door, but we never had to wait very long. read more

The Oxbow is Lander's token pseudo fast food place. Much of their food is sandwiches, salads and some entrees. For several years my family would come here off and on and we always enjoyed the French Dip. Nothing too fancy here but if you want good food that is not fancy in of itself then this is a good choice. read more

You know that restaurant your grandparents took you to as a kid that you thought was really good, but when you returned as an adult, you realized it was terrible garbage? This is Oxbow in a nutshell. Terrible food. Got the battered mushrooms as an appetizer and immediately regretted the decision. The mushrooms were clearly freezer burnt and heated up. Nasty crap. Ordered the turkey dinner and the Peppercorn sirloin. Turkey dinner was heated up lunch meat with gravy on top, and my "medium" peppercorn sirloin was well done. The "peppercorn sauce" was tasteless. Sad that the best part of the meal was the lukewarm bowl of instant mashed potatoes. Also, the waitress was nowhere to be found most of the night, and when we did manage to have her stop by our table, she took her sweet time getting us any thing we requested, despite the restaurant being basically empty. My friend and I stopped there for lunch, as she had eaten there in the past and thought it was very good. Over experience this go-around was not, as good as hers the first time. For starters our server was nowhere to be found. Finally after over five minutes or so she did show up to take our drink and food order. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich and my friend ordered a chicken wrap, plus a bowl of French Onion Soup. My food was good, but just standard fair for a grassy spoon. My friend said her warp was good, but the soup was really just a mock version what you get at many eateries. Rather than topping with a crusty a piece of bread they just used a handful of croutons. Also it was just topped with a little shredded chasse, so it was not melted at first. In addition my friend said the broth was a little grassy. She said that she might not order the soup again. In all I found this place to be okay, but nothing more. That being said I might or might not eat there again when in Lander in future. read more

I like a fast, basic breakfast. The Oxbow fits that bill. While in Lander this week, I went there twice for eggs, bacon and hash browns for $7.00. The spread included four bacon strips - this morning, it was more like six! It's a local place, and I ran into long lost friends. I want to try the prime rib sometime. read more

Best chicken fried chicken!!! The all you can eat crab is excellent and prime rib is outstanding for a nice night out! Breakfast scrambles and gigantic pancakes are the best start to the day. I love their salad bar for lunch. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch, wish we would have gotten subway instead!! I ordered the philly sandwich and French fries (sandwich came with aju, ) was supposed to have Swiss cheese, it had the cheap american Swiss processed cheese and thank goodness it came with aju , the freezer tasting beef was beyond dried and fried on the grill. Hubby had the hot meatloaf and was a piece of meatloaf on a slice of bread, real mashed potatoes topped with can/jar or powdered gravy. I also asked for a little extra aju but I wasn't paying extra for a dry freezer tasting 3/4 of a sandwich that I ate about 4 bites of!! Who charges for aju sauce??? Wouldn't waste my money on this place, our meal for 2with water to drink was $18 and some odd cents!!! Never again,lol read more

The Oxbow is your classic ranch town restaurant. The food is good but not great, filling and has full value for what you pay for. The menu is classic American fare. On Fridays, that have all you can eat crab which I don't particularly recommend. It is not best in crab. The prime rib is far better. They have a variety of "down-home" choices, chicken fried chicken was decent, salad bar, homeade desserts-pies mostly...typical southern style diner. Poor, uncaring, slow service. The toast was burned for both of us. The waitress was talking to someone sitting at the stools instead of coming by for a coffee refill or check on our satisfaction. We asked person cleaning nearby table for our waitress. By this time, our breakfast was consumed except for the burned toast. Don't recall an apology but a comment about the toast going through a rotisserie too many times. Why serve burned food? Why take over ten minutes to return with relacement toast? So my family we are on vacation and we had just spent 13 hours in our car so we checked into a hotel and we started looking for restaurants to eat at then we find The Oxbow Restaurant and the reviews were good so we went in and the waiter seemed nice but then all of a sudden she started getting really sassy because we wanted to sit at a table and I kid you not she rolled her eyes at us and said sure ! So now we are sitting down at our Table and we are being friendly and ask a person eating their steak next to us and we ask if it is good and they say and I quote " Not Bad" like I would have been expected it is actually pretty good like wow! I ordered the New York steak and ask for it medium well and when it came out and I'm not gonna lie it actually looked juicy but then when I cut into it it was very dry and then when I turned it over the whole bottom was burnt ! And the steak didn't even have a good taste ! And It is sad to say that the best part of my meal was the salad! I do not recommend this restaurant at all ! read more

It always disappoints me that when tourists drive through town, this place is what they choose since it's at a major intersection. If you like the "crisco cafe" you'll like this place. I'm sorry but the French onion soup had enough salt in it to cure a pig. The chicken fried chicken was a frozen pattie reheated to much and the mash potatoes and gravy were to only thing good and they were plain. The two stars are for the wait staff that were friendly and quick. That's all I can say. read more

Who knew? Seven states in 12 days on a motorcycle, with meals ranging from nonexistent, to barely sustaining fast food, to expensive and highly rated *cuisine*, and one of the best meals -- definitely the best costing under $20 for two hungry adults -- was a late Sunday morning breakfast at the Oxbow on 8/9/15. Service was great: seated right away; and server was too busy to bother us needlessly, but regularly refilled coffee cups and made sure we had all that we wanted. At my partner's suggestion, I enjoyed an excellent Belgian waffle: lightly crisp on the outside but pleasantly cushy on the inside. Scrambled eggs on the side were fluffy and fine, no nasty bits of unmixed white or uncooked yolk. But his breakfast was, well, it was what a breakfast should be if you're a hardworking ranch hand or something. But he's not, so he had enough food to share with me: two slices of meaty bacon, cooked to crisp/chewy perfection; two sausages nicely browned, with flavor that even a sausage hater could love; two slices of real, flavorful ham; two eggs, over easy (I didn't make him share those); hot and crispy hash browns; and the two most beautiful pancakes that I have ever seen in my life, spanning the full diameter of a 10-inch plate and each one nearly an inch thick at the center. Whether or not they were made from scratch, they sure tasted like it. Oh, and the server brought plenty of butter and syrup at the outset, so we didn't have to stop and ask for more. And besides the ubiquitous red Tabasco, the Oxbow had our personal favorite egg treatments, Cholula and green Tabasco. I can't remember what that order was called, but it was listed near the top of the breakfast page for, I think, $9.25. The only sad part of this story is that I am unlikely to pass through Lander again anytime soon. But if I do, I will stop at the Oxbow for breakfast! read more
