This place gets two stars instead of one because they used to be one of the best Italian "joints" down the shore. NOW their pizza is okay at best, their "Veal" is pork, and their gravy, taste of just Parmesan cheese. Not to mention it was wayyyy over priced to receive fake veal. The food is excellent. I get scungilli and spaghetti and my husband gets spaghetti with meat sauce. Both are excellent and the gravy is to die for. Decided to come here for a quick bite to eat. Ordered 4 slices and a wrap to dine in and a separate order to go. Problem #1 - Our to-go order came out first. After 45 minutes of waiting, we decided to get our dine in order to go. Now not only did the girl working behind the counter have a clue what my order was .. but she didn't seem to care all that much. After waiting for our order to FINALLY come out.. we leave and get home only to find that the slices we ordered, were wrong and the garlic knots we ordered, weren't even warm/cooked. This is incredibly disappointing as we had placed an order to accommodate a food allergy. Not only did we have to go out and find something else to eat, but it was a complete waste of time and money. Been coming down to Lavallette every summer for years and we always make sure to get a meal from The Oven. Food never disappoints. I usually get a pasta dish, the penne vodka is my favorite. I've had the chicken parm sandwich. Everything tastes wonderful. My parents went to go pick up food and noticed that the one waitress working was running around like crazy, tying to assist them, while waiting tables as the phone rang. A manager sat at a table talking the entire time while she had been struggling to help multiple people. They didn't appreciate that. All in all, the food is delicious but there's nothing better than seeing a happy staff in a restaurant. read more

The Oven is a family favorite. We often eat there either inside or on the newly refurbished patio. When we want to stay home, take out or delivery is always prepared quickly and with no errors. We've had the buffalo calamari, stuffed rigatoni, eggplant rollatini, ceasar salad, cheese steaks, artichoke oreganata, penne vodka, many pizzas and other Italian treats. I am so sorry I did not check out yelp before ordering. Been living in the area over 35 years and there are many excellent pizzas restaurants. We received a flyer in the mail and thought we would give it a try. Big mistake. This was the worst pizza I have ever had. We threw it out and ordered from another restaurant. Horrible service and food! We went there with a large group last week on vacation. We knew going with that many people it would take longer but never expected the service we got. We had a couple of kids with us so the waitress took the order from the first half of the table and when they asked to put kids order in first, she left, didn't get the rest of the tables order (including kids at the other end). She came back about 20 minutes later with the kids food, and then took the rest of our order. We waited over 30 min for just drinks. The food took FOREVER. The couple of kids orders she took came out in 25 min, but we waited another good hour for our food to come, on top of the 30 min we waited for drinks' We thought we were coming for quick pizza but was anything but that! The food was horrible!! We got the bill and there was random things on the receipt. There was a custom item for $16.95 which the waitress couldn't explain so she took off. There was 2 orders of 1 item. There was an extra order of pasta. It was a mess. Good thing we went over the bill because it was off by about $30! The Oven has fabulous service! We ordered a dozen subs (some of which were very complicated) and the friendly staff was glad to accommodate us. I called and the person on the phone apologized and said they'd send it right over. 20 minutes later it was delivered and was completely wrong. I had the worst experience with this restaurant. I ordered take out and asked the wait staff specifically told me I would not be charged more for changing pasta sauces. When the food was delivered I was charged extra. I called the restaurant to explain the situation. I remained calm and just wanted to be reimbursed $6.00. The wait staff was rude and I requested to speak with the manager. The manager gave me attitude and continually yelled at me but told me to relax even though I remained calm for the entire conversation. I went to the store to get my refund and the wait staff and manager continued to be snippy with me. The pasta I ordered was gross. The pasta was taste less and definitely from a box. For such an expensive meal I would expect the bread to not be stale and the pasta to be cooked well. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. read more

My mom and I places an order for pick up, and they said that it will be out in a few minutes. Over an hour later, we finally got the order. And as your waiting there is a lady telling you that it will be out in a few minutes, but it wasn't, while other people were coming and ordering to go and they got theirs before us. And there were other people sitting there for over 2 hours waiting on their pickup and the owner said that they never got the order. So I really don't recommend going here in less you feel like waiting for a little over 2 hours. read more

Came here for dinner - ordered personal pizzas and pasta. Took an hour for the pasta and they told us the pizza would be 'coming soon'. 2hrs later we finally got served our pizza after everyone else was done eating. Apparently they had to call someone in to make the pizza. I would have preferred them telling us there was no pizza and I would have simply ordered something else. read more

What a fantastic place, service is always super friendly and fast!! Food is amazing from traditional Italian dishes, to the delicious salads and subs, all the way to their gourmet pizzas. BYOB which is always fun and definatly a cozy spot to bring the whole family. Saturday night, 1 AM. Yes I am over the hill so I was fast asleep. Pounding on the front door, dogs going wild, what is it? Yes, it's the delivery man from the Oven Pizza lost and waking up the neighborhood looking for his missing delivery stop. No apology for disturbing everyone just hopped in his car and took off. Called the next day to speak to the owner-he never bothered to call me back or apologize either. Next time I let the dogs out and let the delivery guy deal with my 170 pound Bernese Mountain dog. Good news is the dog loves pizza (hates delivery men though) . Don't know about the food but if the management and delivery drivers are any indication - stay far, far away. read more

Their website says delivery to the entire island. Not a good business model. At 630pm we ordered two Sicilian pies for delivery to Seaside Park and were told 45-60 minutes. A few minutes after I called they called back to say they only have one Sicilian, would we like a grandma pie. Sure. After two phone calls to them our pies arrived at 8pm. The driver had them on his passenger seat without a warmer bag. Since it's 80 degrees and 100% humidity in July I have no doubt the driver's AC was blowing on our pizzas the entire drive. Needless to say they we were cold when they arrived. The driver said he had a delivery in Mantoloking then drove back to SSP. And no warmer for the pizzas? Once we got our cold, $40 pizzas inside the cheese on the Sicilian was stuck to the top of the box. Perfect. We will NEVER order from them or frequent them again. We were too lazy to go to Marucas or a good pizza place that doesn't deliver. Lesson learned. Not again. read more

Loved the food here sometimes small is better! started with stuffed mushrooms that were just excellent. For Dinner we ordered and shared stuff Rigatoni with Vodka sauce and Chicken Masala and it was the best Vodka sauce I ever had anywhere. I actually asked for the recipe but of course a secret. The Chicken Masala was also delicious No room for desert the portions were too filling I have to say we went to several big establishments our week down the shore and this was our best choice in restaurants we made that week. I stopped there on my way home up to bring home a pizza that looked so good that others were eating and I was not disappointed. Highly recommend. read more

We just had dinner at The Oven this evening! Good food and service! We had some nice specialty pies, lasagne and some great calamari. Busy place but our food was served in a timely manner. The inside is a little tight but the outside presented with new tables and umbrellas. A great plus for 2017 is they now accept credit cards! We will be back! read more

My family and I have been going to The Oven for many years now. But last weekend when I was enjoying a warm sauce filled slice of pizza I promptly spit out my mouthful. There was a small insect cooked into my slice of pizza I then proceeded to scream where I then ran out the door and jumped into the road. I was struck but cement truck traveling 45mph I broke my wrist and my collar bone. The Oven just hasn't been the same since. I miss The Oven and sometimes and I think about going back. A group of friends and I ordered a hefty amount of food from here. We got our food pretty late and also specifically asked if we would be charged extra for changing sauces on our pastas - the waitress said no. When we get the food delivered, we paid and looked at the receipt to see we were charged. We called the oven to explain the situation and ask for our money back. The manager was beyond rude and told me to calm down and cursed at me. In addition to this the food was beyond mediocre and obviously out of a box. I would not recommend it but sadly there are few food options in lavalette. read more

I came into The Oven the other day after the beach to get a slice of pizza, I then saw a white slice on the counter and I had to get a full pie. I ordered it and it was ready in about 15 minutes. I ate every single slice to my self it was delicious, not to mention the staff is fantastic and very friendly people. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Amazing food! Have never ordered something I wasn't obsessed with here. The service is fast and all the girls are super friendly. The specials are always great, I would recommend the artichoke Frances's or the Mac and cheese balls! We've eaten there, picked up, and had it delivered many times and I've never had a complaint.
