On Grand Central Avenue in the summer is an event in itself, due to the summer vacationers in this small hamlet. This summer appears to be no different, only the majority of people are masked. Surprised as we were, the area and restaurant were quite crowded. The Oven, formerly Lavallette Pizza, relocated over the winter a few blocks north. We wanted a pizza and being in the area, ended up here to our delight. We had Pizza Capriosa, a large consisting of fresh tomatoes, cheese, mushrooms and prosciutto. Excellent. Parking is always tough in the summer. The meals range from $16-$22 and the pizzas range from $13-$22. Their salads appear to be very large judging what the servers carried outside. We had a delicious dinner at The Oven a few weeks ago. I felt a need to post this after seeing some terrible reviews. It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside. The meatballs and gravy are freshly made and they were to die for! The calzone I had was oozing with delicious cheese and a very good portion. I couldn't even finish it in one sitting. My husband had a vegetable pizza that was smothered with so many vegetables that it weighed a ton. So fresh and not oily at all. The best vegetable pizza he's ever had. No joke! They give you bread that's made from the pizza dough which is addicting! We had a lovely female waitress this time and the last time we had a very nice male waiter. Both of them were great. High-end restaurants don't even employ such nice people. Truly. If you go later on in the evening after the bars let out, you get drunk patrons who give terrible reviews, but that's not the norm at all. The food is very good. And the staff try very hard to make your experience a good one. read more

Well, I RARELY give "One Star" but The Oven is getting one here. We went here for a quick dinner before going to The Music Man. The Oven is nicer inside then a regular pizzeria. The food was average but our service was below average. The waitress was pleasant but she appeared to be either overworked, new at this job or both. She erroneously ordered a Tossed Salad for me when I asked for the Salad Wedge. She came back afterward & asked me again what I wanted because she didn't think it was anywhere on the menu (it was). My wife's Chicken Caesar salad was missing chicken, and my daughter ordered the simplest thing at a pizzeria (a plain slice) and that came out considerably later than the rest of our food. At the end, I apparently was over-billed ($6.50) for a "Tossed Salad". I only realized it later that night when I began this post. Do I go back and ask for my 6.50+ tax? I don't think I'm going to do that. Advice to customers: Double check your bill. read more

Friday night enjoying the beach house with family and what a beautiful day. Getting hungry so finding a pizza place on yelp. Every thing close has 3 stars or less so oh well, it is what it is. Ordered from the Oven which had good pictures on the web site. Sorry to say the pictures were the best thing. I know its busy being late June but the pie just not favorable. I ordered a large plain, a large pepperoni-sausage-mushroom pie. The crust on both were burnt and on the thick side. No where near enough cheese and the sauce was just average. I also ordered an antipasto salad with hot peppers. The meat was minimum and the hot peppers smothered the dish. Also ordered was Chicken Francaise which lacked lemon and had a bland taste. Total bill was $70. I must say the staff was very pleasant though. All in all just another pizza place. read more

First night of our vacation and we decided to get some pizza. We ordered pizza (obviously), Buffalo wings, mozz sticks, and pepperoni twisters. They said delivery would take 30 to 45 mins. One hour later I called to check on the status of the order, 5 minutes later they got back on the phone and said they would get it to us immediately. Another 50 minutes went by and finally it was delivered, cold and the twisters weren't in the order. Being it was 10:30 pm already I decided to not call back. Needless to say I will not be ordering from there again. read more

The food is good but it took them 2 hours to deliver it from Lavallette to Seaside Heights I called them after an hour and again at an hour and a half. I asked them to give me a discount and they took off 5$. The pizza was cold and the people who worked there could care less about anything but themselves. I think they apologized insincerely once, I don't know if it's because I called more than once and they were annoyed by that. But it's November so I just don't see how it could take 2 hours to deliver a pizza, 1 order of wings, a salad and calamari. read more

On time delivery and food was still warm :) Might just be me but in the video game The Sims you can order pizza by clicking on the phone icon and the pizza arrives in your Sim's hands within 20 minutes after ordering with no other interactions at all. I was staying in a motel in Seaside Heights with my friends and we planned on going to the boardwalk for pizza, when a thunderstorm started we decided to get delivery. We used The Oven's mobile app to place our order. In the midst of the the coronavirus pandemic i was very pleased to get a knock on the motel door 5 minutes before the expected delivery time and was able to enjoy the pizza and chicken fingers and fries. despite my 5 start review i will day the fries were a bit soggy and one of the chicken nuggets wasn't a chicken nugget... oh wait i effed up it was a chicken finger. :) read more

After 40 years as a regular, I won't be back. Quality has gone way downhill since just 2 years ago. AND prices don't match the menu. Really disappointed. I ordered two entrees - both say they come with bread - they didn't. One was a "signature" item - Rigatoni Vodka Pasta - listed at $15.95 but I was charged $18.95. And it wasn't good. A calzone and a pizza were both undercooked. I added one item to the calzone - listed at $1 on the menu, but $2.85 on the bill. Asked for the sauce on the side - was charged for that too - doesn't a calzone come with sauce! And, I had a mystery "custom item" at $3.....maybe because I asked for no garlic on the pizza.....so, all in I was overcharged by about $10 after tax (or 15% of the bill), and because I didn't double check (which I couldn't do until after payment when I was handed the itemized receipt for the first time), I tipped 20% on the overcharge - for takeout. I understand times are tough - that's why I tipped 20% on takeout - but prices should match the menu, food should be fully cooked, all items should be given if they are on the menu, and there should never be a mystery custom item on the bill.....guess I'll go back to Lenny's next time. read more

I bought a living social coupon for a Lavalette Pizza when I called the number to find it it was connected to The Oven! We weren't sure how this was going to work but we sat down and ordered! The food was amazing the Mussels in Marinara were so delicious that even my 4 year old ate them and then dipped her bread! Everything else was amazing from the pizza for the kids the the lasagna my husband and I had!!! Nice size portions and great service with a smile !!! Thank you and we will be back !!! read more

Manny and his mother Antoinette are amazing people. Welcoming, friendly and kind. The kind of folks that treat you like family. Even during the off season, they know how to treat their customers right. The most authentic Sicilian rice balls we have ever had. We have eaten here several times and every time has been incredible. The entrees, the pizza, even the salad was delicious. Service was on point! Conversation 2-/ fabulous. My boyfriend just got back from Italy for a month and this food blows anything he ate away. Asked for no tomatoes and was loaded with them chopped up and mixed in with the meat and sour cream AND a whole layer of them on bottom of the meat. It was definitely done deliberately!!!! This is one place we frequent when we are in residence in Seaside. First let me start by saying I love their pizza. I love their pizza and their rigatoni ala vodka, although it's pretty difficult to screw that up. Those are the only two things I've had off their menu personally but my dinner companions have had other items and have been satisfied as well. It's not really a big deal to me that the place is tight inside. We know when the busy part of the day is and just go off those hours. That being said, I have a huge problem with the service. I'm a little bothered that they don't accept credit cards, I find it very "convenience store-like" that there is an ATM crammed in to that little pizza place but okay. I don't know the reasons behind why they don't accept CC or have that machine so I won't judge too harshly other than what I already said. But the attitude of the people who work there seems to have steadily gone downhill in the past few years we've been eating there. The last time we were there, we all felt like we were a huge burden on the staff. I ordered pepperoni twist (a favorite for most regulars) and after about 10 minutes, our waitress came back to tell us that they didn't have any made (this was 4pm) and.....do you want us to.......? I mean literally trailed off the end of her sentence as if it would have been a huge problem to make the item for us. Well we opted out of the twist because obviously it would have been a major pain to make one FRESH, but were very disappointed. She didn't make any alternative suggestions either. Shouldn't she have? Once we got our pizza, we didn't see her again until the very end of our meal. Well past us wanting refills on our drinks. Which, we paid for. Yep! NO FREE REFILLS. At $2.50 for a "medium" sized soft drink, I would have stuck to water had I known. Meanwhile, as all this is going on, the place is filling up and apparent to all in my party, by people the owners knew. They stood just behind my table "catching up" to a large group of older women and we talking so loudly my husband and I couldn't hear each other. It was rude. I know the restaurant is tiny, but certainly out of everyone, owners would be aware of this. There are pizza joints hand-over fist in the shore area that have better service than this. Although I enjoy the Oven's food, after our most recent treatment plus the fact that we're paying an "Outback Steakhouse" price for a drink refill, we'll try our hand at some place, ANY place else the next time we're down the shore. With "tightly spaced" inside seating along with about 6-8 outside tables which are coveted their menu is your standard fare with pizza, pasta along with chicken and veal entrees which basically covers about 95% of all of these types of locations. 3 for dinner last night very casual sitting outside on a perfect summer night. Arrive Friday around 9:30PM and tables still full, but we grabbed an outside table sat and were greeted promptly by hard working server Chrissy. BYOB she promptly opened our wines brought out an ice bucked for the whites and glasses and provided us with glasses and specials. We ordered a pizza to start LOL and 3 entrees each accompanied by house small house salad and bread. Pizza was good, not great but tasty the crust a little bit soft for my taste but cheese and sauces balanced. Entrees Shrimp Franchese egg battered and an about 8 fairly good sized shrimp no tails over linguini $16.95 very good dish. Veal Parmigna $18.95 sauce was good but veal was thin & tough like shoe leather probably should not have ordered veal here. Chicken piccata $16.95 was fresh but probably needed a little more lemon as it was a bit flat. All and all for what it is, it's better than average and the veal not withstanding probably a repeat down the road. Service was excellent, portions average to large. read more
