5/5: Fluffy, buttery, vanillay pancakes. So good!
Shelly S.

Being a foodie from LA, I always tend to think my palette is the most elite of standards but I've been proven wrong many times. The food in Spearfish has shocked me again. Food: 5/5: Pancakes: These pancakes can stand against the best places in LA. They were fluffy, flavorful (including a little saltiness that's sometimes missing from pancakes) and vanilla-y. The vanilla flavor was so good! Rum French toast was my son's favorite and hubby got the Jeff's gooey mess full of mushrooms and potatoes. All of these dishes were a 5/5. 5/5: Service: our server was the best. Friendly and fast. If I had to have one area of critique was that pork was the only breakfast meat option, but I'm aware pork is just a staple in this region. If you're in the area, this is a must and it's right in the middle of the small downtown area. We will be back!!

Solid food, quick and attentive service. Had the avacado and bacon benedict it was good overall. Fresh ingredients and good presentation and portion size. But for almost 20 bucks I would expect a high grade of something. Local bacon or eggs or something that kind of tipped it over the edge to justify the prices. 17 bucks for pancakes and eggs? I would come back for the food but I wouldn't come back for the prices. I know they mention upscale but I would expect upscale to advertise upscale ingredients.

The Original NEVER MISSES!! Fast and friendly service. Came here with a friend who has a gluten allergy, and the chef hand-delivered our food so we knew it was safe. Laurie has taken care of us each time we've come here and she is THE BEST. Amazing energy, super fast and personable. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it didn't survive long enough to take a picture of it My sister got the eggs Benedict and this is one of the only places I know of that does it correctly!! Overall, not a single complaint. We will always be back when we're in town for breakfast. Also, side note, this diner is quiet! Open concept but they use plastic plates and have noise dampening features so it's not overwhelming.

Food was good. Portions were solid. Service was good. But do not be in a hurry. Took a long time to get food and it is a little pricey.

A Little Coffee Shop Gem in Spearfish, South Dakota!…read more One of the things we enjoy most about traveling is discovering those little local places that make each town special. During our stay in Spearfish, we stopped by Common Grounds Coffee Shop, a charming little spot that's been around since 1994! From the moment we walked in, we loved the cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The rustic wooden decor, comfortable seating, and even a table with a checkerboard built right into it give this place so much character. It's the kind of coffee shop where you can slow down, enjoy a cup of coffee, have a conversation, and simply take in the surroundings. We've really enjoyed our time exploring Spearfish and the Black Hills, and finding places like Common Grounds makes our travels even more memorable. If you're ever passing through downtown Spearfish, stop by and check it out. We love supporting local businesses, especially those that have been part of their communities for so many years! Sometimes the best travel memories are made during the simplest little stops along the way! #CommonGroundsCoffee #SpearfishSouthDakota #BlackHills #CoffeeShopAdventures #RVTravel #LovingATravelingLife

As I walk in first thing that got my attention was the smell of roasted coffee. I decided to order a smoked salmon sandwich with a blueberry smoothie as I filled up some bags of their local coffee beans. Overall my travel buds and I loved our orders. I love the interior it's comfortable and in the warmer months there's even wonderful outdoor seating. Now let's get to the fun part, the breakfast sandwich I had it on a buttery croissant with sausage and pepper jack cheese it didn't really have time to cool down because I inhaled it I am naturally I'm very talkative person so that must mean I have a big mouth... And I took big bites and this thing was so good it was gone in less than three minutes... Had to have the Italian cream soda because I was already talking everybody's years of being annoying from other caffeine and had previously in life I love the cream soda especially with whip cream... I had to go with strawberries for my flavor. This is a beautiful way to start your day I can see why people would never leave this city.

And the fresh berries inside were delicious! You need to try one of the hand pies if that's the only thing you get here! Our sandwiches were really yummy as well. I got the Smokehouse and mom got the Bacon Apple Cheddar. Mine had a lot of sliced chicken breast which I appreciated. Very solid and filling panini, even if it was a little on the messy side. It wasn't mind blowing but it's a solid and safe choice if you want a great tasting panini. But man, I tried a handful of bites of my mom's sandwich and it made me wish I had gotten that one! Something about those thin slices of warm apples mingling with the melted cheese and bacon just worked so good! Not some crazy sandwich but something a bit more special than what you'd normally get. But it was fantastic. Definitely a winner and something I'd easily recommend getting here. That and the hand pie!

Our group of 3 had corn beef hash, salad with chicken, pancakes, eggs and bacon. The pancakes were described as "the best restaurant pancakes I've ever had" We walked in about 30 minutes before they were closing (1:30pm closing time) but were welcomed warmly and our waitress was attentive and chipper without hovering. And even with iced tea and a soda, the total was $33. If we're ever this way again we'll definitely come back.

Everything from the attitude greeting at the door to paying the incorrect tab amount. It was awful. It took us a minute to find parking and finally found a spot up the street. We walked in and immediately the lady said how many people, we said 4 and she then said 'Well we have a limited menu today. You can get a breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich or biscuits and gravy'. All of us were fine with that and said that is okay, then she looked around the room and said 'Well it is going to be a while' and then walked away. Not even a hi when we walked in the door, just straight to trying to drive us away. I went to the restroom and as I came out a table of 5 people that all had biscuits and gravy was being sent back the kitchen. That didn't look good since that is what I wanted. I heard the server ask the cook if he could heat them all up. I guess they were all cold. I could deal with that. We stood around waiting for about 15-20 minutes and the I walked over to their tiny casino area and threw in $5 to waste some time. Finally the same rude chic said to us that she had 2 high top 2 seat tables if we wanted to split. We were tired of waiting so we took them. Then we waited and waited. We watched several people come in and wait to be greeted and never spoken to, so they leave disgruntled. We waited maybe another 15-20 minutes watching other tables wait for their food and even their drinks to come. We finally got asked what we wanted to drink. We got iced tea each and ordered our limited menu breakfast. And then we waited FOREVER. The table next to us finally got their food in 2 waves with about 5-10 minutes apart. The server said the cook cannot make the gravy fsst enough. Honestly, they shouldn't have the biscuits and gravy on the menu if it takes that long. And why couldn't they have a basic breakfast, eggs, hash brown ham or sausage and toast. This was literally the items on the sandwich or the burrito. Would have made things easier for the cook. Our food finally arrived. My husbands breakfast sandwich looked amazing and it was steaming hot. My biscuits and gravy were good.... at first. One biscuit was light and fluffy but when I got to the second biscuit it was completely burned on the bottom. I couldn't even cut it. I gave up. The server gave us our tab and charged up for an omelet and hash browns for $13. They didn't even have omelets available! Then when my husband questioned the bill and the server started arguing with him. How are you going to charge us for something you don't even offer? It was ridiculous. Overall we were there for almost 2 hours which cut in to our drive time to come back to Denver. Thanks, but I won't ever be back.
