The costa azul burrito was delicious! I think what makes me dock points here is the amount of salt from the bacon inside, and their fries as well. Seems like a lot of desserts on their menu but I believe when I went only the tres leches was available. It was tasty in general as a cake, but wasn't the most moist tres leches I've had. Got a quick bite here while in Vista and I was very impressed. It was pretty slow just after the lunch rush on Wednesday. Place was easy to find, but they should consider trimming the tree covering their sign. Service wasn't overly friendly but was knowledgeable. We ordered shredded beef tacos and quesatacos with pork. They were brought out piping hot and had bottles of red and green sauce accompanying them. Both tacos were flavorful, fresh and a good value for the money. Overall a great experience. read more

I don't live close but was over by this place and they had sent me a happy birthday $5 off so I went and seeks Friday they have live music. Every one was so nice and welcoming. The cashier was so patient as I decided what I wanted. I knew I wanted tacos (carnitas) but they have such a Huge Menu and soups and plates and burritos etc. Still I went with what I was craving and was an excellent choice. Tomatillo salsa on street tacos have kick but if I can handle it most can lol. They have jarritis to drink and fountain Coke drinks and their agua frescas are from the machine heads up. Not for me but I know many don't mind, but wanted to share. Ate out in patio because it was nice out. The young lady brought my tacos and they were packed. They don't skimp here. Not at all. I have always wished that Yelp allowed us reviewers (who provide 100% of the content) to award half stars or to give ratings on a possible 10 star basis. It would allow for more accurate ratings for sure. But dare to dream. I know it will never happen but in this more perfect world, I would award the "Original" Mr. Taco 3 1/2 stars or 7 stars on a 10 point scale. I almost always round up so 4 stars it is. I am a huge fan of Mr. Taco #2 in San Marcos. I have only been to that location maybe 500 or so times. For the first time, I tried the Original Mr. Taco and I am sure there is some relationship or connection between these businesses and with Mrs. Taco in Vista (I have heard rumors) but I do not know for sure what it is. The menu is definitely different at the Original location than at Mr. Taco #2 but not in a bad way. The decor inside is fun and the counter gal was very friendly. The burritos here are absolutely enormous. I tried the "Spicy" burrito (that is its name) which is made with asada and chorizo. If there was anything but chorizo inside it, I will never know. The chorizo flavor overpowered everything. It's a good thing I love chorizo. It's a fine burrito but not amazing. I also sampled the Cali burrito (with chicken) and it was nice enough and also huge but pretty standard for that type of burrito. The location is bigger than you might think and the decor is much nicer than at your typical "Berto" taco shops. The food didn't wow me enough to steal me from the #2 spot. 3 1/2 stars rounded up seems about right based on one visit. read more

I have such mixed feelings about this place. What I like: The service is always top notch and friendly. It's clean, and the staff always seem to be doing side work to keep it that way. Prices are fair. Taco Tuesday is a good deal with $2 street tacos and $3 crispy beef or chicken. I also really like their red salsa, which comes in a squirt bottle. Perfect for people like me who drown their Mexican food in hot sauce. The downside: Everything I've ordered has been barely over room temperature. The food tends to lack freshness and juiciness, like the meat was cooked hours, maybe days prior and just briefly reheated (or maybe kept in a warmer?) before being thrown into a tortilla. For example, I tried Taco Tuesday tonight and all four various TJ-style tacos were pretty dry. Thankfully I love hot sauce or they would have been hard to get through. Also, just to note, no guac on them. They come with green tomatillo salsa instead. The crispy beef taco was actually pretty solid, though. I leave this place each time thinking, "So close." We made a pit stop here from the drive from Los Angeles I'm glad we stopped here because the food was amazing ! My buddy got a steak& egg burrito and he loved it ! I ordered the crab & shrimp enchiladas it was so amazing I wanted to order another plate ! My other buddy got the carne asada tacos with rice & beans. He loved them. We all shared an order of their carne asada fries and you can taste how the meat is so fresh along with the other things that come with it. Well we found this place last year for their breakfast Burritos the morning after Thanksgiving. So the family wanted to do the same this year, so we went back to start our family tradition of the morning after breakfast Burritos. The food here is great & made fresh to order. the service is awesome and the ambiance is nice and cozy.. while we were waiting for our fresh food and Salsa, we had Mimosas. What a Great place! I'm disappointed for one reason, they have me hooked on the fajita with any form of protein, the fish tacos I have had and forgot to review. The best fish taco this side of the Baja. Best anywhere. Went in for vegan potato rolled tacos with guacamole lettuce & tomato (hold the cheese, with cheese makes it a vegetarian option). They come in order of 3 or 5. These are fried, which I rarely eat, so there a guilty pleasure. Warm & fresh, crisp light corn tortillas, good but not the best I've ever had. The guac is creamy but thin & not very flavorful. Still a good alternative to other menu items for vegans. Not busy 2pm on Saturday, no wait to order, 3-5 mins until it was ready. Plenty of cool air condition indoor clean seating, but I chose the outdoor patio with umbrella seating to make the most of a sunny warm summer day. There's light strings across the patio & outdoor heaters for evening. Dining area seating makes it A nice place for a casual dinner out, it's a step up from a regular fast, food or Mexican takeout. Really stoked to finally find this Original Mr Taco location this year! I LOVE the San Marcos location but it's a little far from my house and driving 30 minutes to get my favorite Mexican food doesn't always work out for me time wise. The Vista location is located in a strip mall, along with Leucadia Pizza (another place I LOVE), a Thai restaurant, and a Japanese restaurant. The Vista Original Mr Taco is newer and larger than the San Marcos one. The interior is spotlessly clean and they have both indoor and outdoor seating, along with beers, Micheladas, and Margaritas! They even have a killer Happy Hour and daily specials! In my Yelp review for the San Marcos location I claimed that they had the BEST Cranes Asada fries in the area and I'm happy to report that their Vista locations does too! The fries are perfectly crispy, tantalizingly seasoned, and loaded with meat, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream! If you want to be a rebel try ordering them with Carnitas instead of Asada. It's sooooooo GOOD! I also love their flautas, delicate shrimp tacos, crunchy yet moist fish tacos, and of course their Charger Burrito Supreme! My next adventure is to order their Enchiladas Suizas, which you don't often find on many take out menus. The staff that works here is also super friendly and helpful and there's always plenty of parking. Rock ON Original Mr Taco Vista! We do not come to Vista very often. We just happen to be in the area, waiting for an appointment. So, we saw this taco spot, and decide to stop by. We were there pretty early, so there was no one there really, maybe three other parties. The space is also really big, so really nice if you are trying to social distance. My partner got the Chilaquiles and I got a taco de asada with a margarita. They felt that the Chilaquiles were all right, nothing really special. It was a little spicy for me, but that how it usually should be. They felt that there was a lot of egg in it in comparison to tortilla chips. It didn't feel balanced. My taco was a little on the pricey her side. It was $3, but it was a good size taco. The margarita was only $6, so I had to get it. What choice did I have?! However, it was not strong at all. I felt like I was drinking minute maid lemonade. Did not taste like there was any alcohol in it. Overall, it was an okay meal. The enchilada was a bunch of soggy chicken mush drowning in sauce. Rice was hard, beans were meh. The carne asada was kind of dry and the tortilla tasted like it was just out of a bag uncooked. I should have known when the order came out in two minutes. This was a Wednesday night at least 1.5 hours before closing. I will say if the food was fresh it might have been good because I think the flavor was there. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance as well. We have been frequent and loyal customers of Mr. Taco even back when it was Mrs. Taco. The food has always been good and the ambiance has been great. We especially liked going on the nights when they had mariachi musicians who would entertain guests at the restaurant while celebrating the proud Mexican culture. Last night was not one of those nights. My wife and I looked at each in shock before taking our first bites of food. Employees were playing profanity laced rap music. The songs we heard repeatedly used a derogatory name for females and the N word. I could not believe what I was hearing. We couldn't eat fast enough. It was a bit cold last night or we would have sat outside on the patio. I'm a fan of some rap music, but In my opinion, F bomb songs like this should not be played at a family restaurant. I'm embarrassed for the owner of the restaurant. I would hope he or she would agree. Something has also changed with their healthy bowl recipe. The last couple times I have ordered a healthy bowl, they have tasted very salty. Maybe they should just be called bowls.
