I got the garlic shrimp; it was flavorful, cooked perfectly, and it actually tasted like shrimp, vs. something that has been frozen and re-frozen several times. Plus prices were so reasonable. Even though it's called the Taco Bar, we came here for the burritos. I would recommend the shrimp burrito. It's so good. We always leave with satisfied tummies. The staff were so kind. Service is great for dining in. They have a lot of taco options, hence the name. I had the fish tacos (battered and grilled). I preferred the battered over the grilled because the grilled was a little dry. Sorry I didn't take a photo of the tacos. I also had the California burrito which I enjoyed the crispier fries but the guac and sour cream were lacking. read more

I really love the tacos here- it's always a great variety and very tasty. This time around I had the quesa Birria and an al pastor street taco. Evening was delicious. I am disappointed that when I asked for glass of water, the cashier told me that they couldn't give me one. She said they could sell a bottle of water to me instead. She said it's because they don't offer fountain drinks. Sorry but this is not acceptable - to not provide basic tap water to paying customers?! We wanted a surf and turf burrito, since moving here to SM we haven't really found our surf and turf burrito spot. We saw Taco Bar and gave them a try. Located in big shopping area off the freeway, easy access and plenty of parking. Order at counter and find a seat. We got their surf and turf, adobada taco, cabeza taco, Burria taco and a corona to share. Everything was quite tasty! The surf and turf was good, not our style we like though, but good meat and good shrimp with flavors. The burrito was a bit wetter with cheese, guacamole and rice. It needed some pico in there, then it'll perfect. Their head taco was good. A bit pricey for tacos but more of a modern place and not hole in the wall. Had a craving for tacos and was in the area so we stopped by to check it out. Had the Al Pastor, fish Tacos and chili renello plate. Underwhelmed is an understatement. The fried fish taco was very fishy and the batter tasted like the oil hadn't been changed in a while. Once I bit into chili renello and tasted same off putting flavor I realized that's most likely the issue. Everything just tasted mid and not fresh. $53 for a plate and four tacos is wild! I've been a total of five times and hav been happy with my order once. The tacos I got the first time were fresh, the tortillas were warm and the adobada was freshly cooked. Definitely satisfied. Second time I ordered burritos and meat was obsolete, mostly rice and beans. Disappointing for $16 burritos. The last few times I had sopes and the meat was warmed under the heat lamp and Sope masa was not made fresh they were premade and hard. The menu advertised as it coming with cotija and none of my sopes had any. The last attempt I ordered sopes again and even asked for extra cotija, still was not included. Food was good. I got the jalepeno burrito. It has asada, jalepenos, cheese, and a type of green sauce. It was pretty tasty, they offered me a couple limes to go with it. The limes really helped bring out the jalepeno flavor in the burrito. The Carne asada was probably cooked at medium or a little over. Along with the burrito I got a side of habanero onions which are red onions marinated in some sort of juice with habaneros. I tried it on the burrito and it over powered the jalepeno taste which isn't a knock just preference. The habenero onions were great on the side. The service was great, I got my order to go and they brought it out to me where I was sitting, evelyn was so kind. The vibe inside is pretty chill they have a little claw game for kids to play and a bar to sit on or tables, whichever you prefer. They had nice outdoor seating as well. Solid Mexican food spot in San Marcos. They have plenty of street tacos to choose from and they even have birria, cabeza, and lengua. But the lengua taco was $6 so I didn't get it. Surf and turf burrito was not bad. It was a lot of rice and cheese so it'll fill you up.
