I ordered the weekly early bird special. 3.99 for the two eggs, home fries and bread. In order to get the combo you need to order a drink. So I ordered a 2.59$ coffee. Originally I was going to just have water because I was wired from working at 5am....but you have to order a drink for this early bird special. In actuality the early bird comes put to 6.59$ +tax. :( The eggs were done perfect sunny side up. Not crispy, not greasy, you had just enough translucent layer on the top. It was just wonderful. The rye was done well, light toast no margarine. The home fries were awful, in that you can taste the age of unchanged oil in the fry. The home fries tasted double fried to the point of crunchy. The colour was dark. The service was punctual. But we were offered the bill so fast after the plates were taken when we wanted to sit and chat and have coffee. The restaurant was only 30% full. If you are looking for a cozy, yummy breakfast, this is the place to go. I wouldn't really go for lunch again. The food wasn't to dieee for, but it was good. Definitely a breakfast place. They close at 3pm... the service was friendly but kind of slow. A nice place for families, couples, or friends to have pancakes, waffles, omelettes, etc. Not a HUGE menu like other diners, but covers most of the common breakfast items. read more

We decided to try out this new breakfast/lunch place when my parents gave us coupons for buy one get one free breakfast they got in their flyers. I remember the location (beside Wendy's across from Winners, Bulk Barn etc.) used to be a sushi place so I was interested to see the change. The restaurant itself was bright with lots of windows but it was a bit smaller than other places so I feel like it will fill up quick on a weekend. There was a nice mix of booths and tables, there was even a diner style "bar" by the kitchen. We arrive around 9:15-9:30 and didn't have to wait. The service was great. Our waitress was a little harsh but she was polite. She was training a new server so I don't know if that was the reason why, I didn't really like being barked at "AND YOUR EGGS" "WHITE BROWN OR RYE". The refilled my fiance's coffee at least three times and were quick to ask if we needed anything else. The food was pretty good. I had the big breakfast which I couldn't finish. The eggs were yummy and not that gross powdered egg some places use, these were real. Bacon was done to perfection. The sausages were a weird spicy kind that I wasn't a huge fan of but still good. The pancakes were massive, bigger than my hand, but they could've been fluffier and not so thin. My fiance had the french toast with fresh fruit that looked amazing, I am definitely going to have to try it next time. All in all it was pretty good, kind of pricey for breakfast (Mine was 11.99 not including my drink and my fiance's was 10.99) but we had the coupon so it was okay. read more

The photos of the french toast and waffles made The Open Kitchen look very promising so we decided to give it a shot for Mother's Day breakfast. What a huge disappointment. The service wasn't just bad - it was actually awful. She left us sitting for a good 15min - and then came over, didn't apologize or the delay and asked for a drink order. She actually looked surprised when we were ready to order our food ... we waited at least 10min for a table, another 15 without service at the table we are ready to eat. We ordered Waffle with Fruit, Chocolate Chip pancakes, basic 3 egg breakfast and eggs benedict. The Waffle and pancakes were great - lots of fresh fruit on the waffle, decent quality. No complaints. The classic 3 egg breakfast came with toast that was soft, it barely had one edge actually toasted. The home fries were barely cooked - they would be tasty if they were were cooked another few minutes. My husband's eggs benedict he ordered his eggs to be medium ... he cut into the first egg and found to be completely runny. The English muffin was not toasted. He found his home fries also barely cooked and was disappointed the egg was so runny. The real problem was when he cut in to the 2nd egg which was still raw - clear runny egg white came pouring out. Not just under cooked, not cooked. It took forever to flag the waitress over, who did not seem to care all that his food wasn't cooked. She did ask if he wanted another but we had waited so long for the food in the first place he didn't want to wait any more, plus he was now completely turned off. We were very nice about it, and assumed his meal would be comped. He had only eaten one egg. Nope. 20% off. The waitress had zero personality, zero hustle and spent more time counting her tips than actually serving people. The food is extremely oily and did not taste the way it should. When I complained in store the manager brushed me off and didn't do anything about it. When I went home I phoned back at a later time to voice my complaint and the manager was defending the store instead of acknowledging that the 'customer is always right'. I will never return to this place and neither will my family. It's experiences like this that lead to businesses shutting down. Screw your poor management skills and gross food that made me and my family sick the rest of that day. read more

Needs more options for the meals. I was there for the first time last weekend. I ordered the waffle breakfast that came with eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and half of a waffle. I wanted a whole waffle without toast and i was willing to pay the extra for the other half. I was told if I wanted a whole waffle, I would be changed for a whole waffle as an addition and I'd get 1 and a half waffle. So I would have had to pay $10 for the meal plus $7 for a whole waffle!!! The waitress didn't even offer to check with the kitchen so it seems it's the rules. I've read other reviews and this issue with being able to substitute things is not one this restaurant honors and I'm not sure how long that will last. If this is the case offer a build your own breakfast...with reasonable pricing for the items. I love breakfast and it was nice to find a new joint but can't say I'd return for seconds. read more

I was there one morning shortly after this place opened , It was clean and fresh interior, breakfast food was typical and priced on the high side, I was surprised that the egg dishes were 3 eggs , I asked if I could have 2 eggs to which the pleasant waitress said Yes , But 2 eggs were same price as 3 eggs . We tried out this place today for the first time. The food was good and reasonably priced. The portions were big and the pancakes were massive. Now onto why I only gave it 3 stars. Well to start, I was charged extra because i wanted the chocolate chip pancakes and I didn't know about the additional charge. I will not go to this place again. The management is deceitful My wife and I and another couple went for a nice breakfast with a two for one coupon for each of us. I've gone a number of times and I will say that I have very much enjoyed the food. The waitstaff isn't always super attentive but that's fine considering they are at a very busy breakfast establishment. My main problem is the lack of flexibility in the menu. They have a meal option that comes with two pancakes and another that comes with half a waffle. The former of the two is cheaper. I wanted the waffle meal, but a full waffle because who eats half a waffle? I even said I would pay for another half, but the waitress said it would be 4 more dollars. How does that make sense? There's no way it's costing you that much more to make a waffle versus a pancake. The ingredients are pretty much the same just with a different formula. Needless to say I didn't get the waffle meal. Buyers remorse is all I can say. I took my son and husband for breakfast because we noticed this place a couple weeks ago and wanted to try it out. The wait wasn't bad and the staff was friendly, but lacked personality. First, we ordered two coffees and an apple juice. What we received was two coffees and an overly sugary chocolate milk?? We said "it's ok" and ordered our food. I ordered my son the plain pancakes because they want like a dollar or so extra for chocolate chips and on top of that, they charge extra for the kids drinks (they don't come included). The kids meals don't include bacon or sausage so you have to order it as a side. I ordered the big breakfast with French toast and my husband had eggs benny. We waited about 20 minutes or so for the food and what came out was not impressive at all. First off, they put a kids menu on their menu and bring out GIANT pancakes. No wonder I have to pay extra for a drink and bacon. I wish I took a picture because they were plate sized pancakes for a 4 year old (you get two). They were also SO dry that the pancake on top literally cracked in half at the table. I had to smother it in butter just to give it a little moisture. I ended up eating only my poached eggs and the toast because you can't screw that up. The French toast was dry and hard and cold and I couldn't eat it. My husband liked his eggs, but also wasn't overly impressed. When we got our bill it was $45 for all that. I will never be back. First visit, not overly impressed. The food quality was average yet overpriced in my opinion. For a $12 breakfast, I would expect more than 2 small pieces of bacon. Coffee was well over $7 for 3 cups and we were not offered refills until 10 minutes after we were done eating. came here with a friend because we were curious about a new brunch place to eat at. the food is decent and the portions are massive! i wish the menu had photos that showed just how big the portions would be... we each got a mixed platter (i.e. eggs with potatoes and sausage/bacon as well as pancakes/french toast), and neither of us could finish our food despite coming in hungry. if we'd known how big the portions were we would have just gotten one and shared P: the food itself was good, comparable to most brunch places. service was nice, restaurant was clean, and the atmosphere was relaxed so that was all good. and now that we know how big the portions are, we'll be a bit more selective in ordering P: read more

Beautifully decorated and arranged, but the service and food quality was slightly sub par. My partner and I waited 25 minutes for our eggs Benedict and cheeseburger, with 2 and a half extra minutes where the plates were sitting ready for pickup. The waitress was very rushed, inattentive, and not exactly friendly. Since our table lacked cutlery she brought some over and instead of putting them on the table she handed it over to my partner to "take it from her". The eggs Benedict were tasty, but the home fries were quite raw. My partners lettuce from the cheeseburger was heated and slightly soggy most likely from sitting under the heat lamp, but he thoroughly enjoyed the burger. My husband and I went here early Sunday morning for the first time. We both ordered the traditional eggs, toast, home fries and bacon/sausage. Eggs were done exactly as we ordered them. Unfortunately the home fries were under done and still hard in terms of texture. My bacon was cooked well but the sausage was still pink. Our waitress noticed this and took it off our bill which was very nice. Our waitress mentioned that you can order the sausages butterflied in the future (good to know I guess). Waitress and staff were very friendly. We will definitely come back. Price was reasonable for the area, and food was very tasty. Went for lunch today with a colleague. Our one hour lunch turned into a 2-hour lunch.....all waiting for eggs and bacon. There was ONE dining room server on staff, who was seating people, taking orders, serving food and drinks and other requests, was busing/clearing tables, and processing payments. The restaurant was about 3/4 full. It was ridiculous. We sat ourselves, after a while I went up and helped myself to menus, our eggs and bacon came almost ONE HOUR after we arrived at the restaurant. The orders weren't correct, the food was disgustingly cold, and bacon burnt, and the quantity on each plate was noticeably different even though both meals were the same. The server has only been working there for 2 months and was left on his own while a second server slowly ate her meal at the counter watching everything, put her coat on and then left. Our server was overwhelmed at the volume of the lunch time rush and could not keep up, or keep organized. Clearly, there was an issue in the kitchen as well. And let me just be clear, that I do not blame this on them at all. All of the patrons were in the same boat so many of us ended up in conversation together, and we all felt badly for the one server who was doing his best. When I asked to speak to a manager, he indicated that they didn't have one - only the owners, and no way for the public to contact them. I'm very disappointed. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. Shame on the owners for being okay with staffing their establishment this way, and for not being on site or having a manager in place to deal with these issues. As a result, we paid far too much for a terribly horrible meal, only because we felt so badly for the staff working and didn't want to take it out on them. read more
