No longer the bargain I reviewed. One lobster roll, one crab roll, French fries (from freezer to fryer - tasteless), and two soft drinks for $60 pre-tip?

Hot lobstah roll. Fresh cole slaw and crinkle fries.

Bottom Line: Super friendly service, excellent lobster rolls and satisfying sides. My husband and I stopped at this super cute food truck shortly after landing at PWM. After dealing with many hours of canceled flights, delayed flights and other airport nonsense the only thing that could make the day right was a friendly greeting from the team at The Ocean Roll and an incredibly delicious lunch. My husband got the cold roll and I got the hot. We shared a side of crinkle fries and washed it all down with a fountain Diet Pepsi and iced tea. Both rolls were very good. The hot lobster roll was richer with the butter drizzle whereas the cold lobster roll was more refreshing. The cold lobster roll was served with some lettuce underneath it and chopped celery on top. It was lightly dressed in mayo. Both rolls were served on buttered split top buns. A nice surprise was how good the side of Cole slaw was! I can be fussy with coleslaw but I thought The Ocean Roll's was perfect - not too mayonnaise-y and not too sweet. The crinkle fries were average but I'm not a big fan of crinkle fries anyway. Service was friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Our food came up quickly and we enjoyed sitting in the warm sun at a clean picnic table for two. Parking was easy and this was an awesome experience.

Very yummy! I was looking to enjoy a lobster roll for a reasonable price and this was the best spot! I got the hot butter lobster roll and my hubby got the hot dog with homemade relish! We were very pleased!

We stumbled in this truck in the way home from Kennebunk and we were ravenous, but had dinner plans in two hours. We split a hamburger and fries. It was $15, which I thought was steep. The girl taking our order was sick, you could hear that her sinuses were all clogged up, and it made me second-ideas if we should be eating there. The food took about 20 mins, and when it came out it was good. Nothing to write home about - just a pricey burger and fries (crinkle fries!). Nothing bad, but nothing truly noteworthy.

bangin lobster rolls and todays soup of the day was lobster bisque - absolutely divine!! 10/10 would recommend

Absolute banger. Great lobster rolls with awesome portions. We got the twin hot lobster rolls ($35). Coleslaw was really good. The star of the show was the lobster bisque ($9). It was their soup or the day, but was so good I hope they bring it back as a daily soup. Great stop for a quick bite, and they even have a bathroom out back! Heads up, they are cash only.

Wow! Everything is so so good! The lobster roll was stuffed with lobster and the clam cakes?!? First time having one and absolutely incredible! Wonderful food.

Came back again the next day, the lobster roll literally may have been the most perfect one I've ever had -- and for a great price. Bring cash, they don't take cards!

This is, hands down, the best spot for a lobster roll in town! Don't skip a trip here if you're in the area. It's well worth it!

We wanted a casual, fun, typical Maine setting for our out-of-town guests and The Catch exceeded our expectations. The food was excellent - lobster rolls, grilled swordfish tacos, mini fisherman platters and of course...New England chowder! And whoopie pies for dessert! The new backyard patio provided beautiful views of the marsh and the fire pits and cornhole games added to the ambience. Our guests had such a good time and we're still getting compliments a week later. Everyone was so accommodating and easy to work with. Service was excellent! Thank you for a fun and memorable "night before!" Looking forward to visiting next year!! Fran, Josh and Lorianne

This used to be one of my favorite seafood spots, but apparently it was sold a couple years ago…read more Today is the first time we've gotten the chance to go and it was a disappointing and frustrating experience. I'd been coming here for at least 20 years, and in recent years it had been a favorite spot to eat outside when traveling with my dog. But now, we are not allowed to eat outside with a dog. Instead we had to order to-go and then walk down back to a 'dog area' which is a spot to the left of the building, below the parking area with one picnic table and some chairs in the woods. It was a beautiful sunny day, but we were getting eaten alive by no-seeums, which is not a nice experience when paying $100 for 1 meal with 6 scallops, 4 small pieces of fried fish, fries and slaw, an order of onion rings, a small clam chowder, and 2 beers. And $50 for a small lobster, an ear of corn, and an iced tea. I get that this is a tourist area, but $12 for a beer in a plastic cup and a $7.50 up charge for 6 scallops while being banished to a buggy spot that made eating very uncomfortable is a big no thank you for me. Crossing this place off my list, sadly. The upgrades and changes to this place are not a bonus at all. I'm sad that a place I always felt was friendly and welcoming is now overpriced and we all felt like we were being treated as second class citizens.

What a delicious twist on lobster rolls. Toast was crispy and buttered nicely. Packed with juicy fresh lobster meat. The street corn flavor was a little spicy but perfectly seasoned. I ordered the lobster ravioli. Oh. Wow. The homes pasta pockets wee cooked to perfection. There can always be more lobster in any dish. But honestly, good amount in the dish & sauce. Sauce was creamy. Seriously almost tasted like clam chowder on top. Service was very prompt. We actually used the Yelp "join the waitlist" and was able to skip waiting in line. We had a drink at our hotel bar until it was time. Worked perfectly. Ambiance is a little deceiving for the delish food. It's more of a bar & small diner atmosphere. I had some trepidation about going after it was sold, and after I read some so-so reviews, and the menu is different. The spinach and garden salads need some jazzing up, but I had the Statler Chicken entree, and I have to say that it was outstanding and probably the best chicken entree I have had at a restaurant. I heartily recommend it, and we will return. We live twenty minutes away, and it is worth the trip. The spicy margarita was also excellent. The waitress, Julia, was attentive but not intrusive. She was great. So yeah, the Village Tavern is worth the trip.

If you loved Village Tavern under the previous owners, you should know that the beloved restaurant you remember no longer exists. The name is the same. The esthetic is the same. Some menu items even have the same names. But the experience is not. During our visit, the calamari, salmon, duck, and haddock were all cooked properly, yet each dish was surprisingly bland and forgettable. Many longtime favorites, including the wide selection of side dishes like the broccoli with blue cheese, are gone. This isn't a bad restaurant on its own merits. The problem is that it's trading on the reputation of something that no longer exists. What I find most puzzling is that the new owners kept the Village Tavern name while abandoning so much of what made it successful. When a restaurant has earned decades of loyalty, you would expect new ownership to preserve its strengths. Instead, it feels like they discarded the very things that built its reputation. I left disappointed, but mostly sad. A restaurant I once considered one of the best in Southern Maine is now simply pedestrian and overly priced. Former fans should adjust their expectations accordingly or avoid the disappointment altogether.
