    Turkey Chipotle Meatloaf
    Neal E.

Visited The Oaks again after another late afternoon visit to my Orthopaedic Surgeon. Was about 5:00 pm when I got out, so I went next door to Fair Oaks Hospital to eat at The Oaks. Had a nice salad from the salad bar, a cup of Chicken Florentine soup, and slice of Turkey Chipotle meatloaf. Food was pretty good for cafeteria/cafe style food. The meatloaf needed to be hotter. The soup was outstanding - very chunky - lots of large, tender chunks of chicken and succulent vegetables. The broth was delicious! I could have drank a gallon of that broth! The salad bar, as before, keeps the veggies ridiculously cold! I briefly toyed with the idea of getting dessert, but I was stuffed. So I passed...

For a community hospital, this is a good cafeteria. They have all the necessities, such as: - salad bar with few premade salads - soup station with special soup of the day - grill station with grilled cheese, fries, and burgers - deli with pizzas, flatbreads, and premade wraps - entrée station that changes daily and it's the best way to get a balanced meal of carb, protein, and vegetable - breakfast menu What makes this cafeteria hospital quality is safety and health promotion. They check the temperature of their foods frequently throughout the day and infection control appears to be of utmost importance. They also list calories and nutritional facts on their soups, flatbreads, entrees, and throughout the cafeteria to help patients and visitors become more conscious of what they're eating. In fact, they promote healthy themes, which includes apple day, citrus day, and the "wedge" day, to make nutrition more fun. I love the exhibition station where diverse and exciting dishes pop up and change everyday! This hospital's version for "foodies" are made as ordered and they include classic Reuben, taco bar, pasta bar, hot wings, and my beloved, pho station! Now the pho here isn't the same as what I'll get at a good pho place. But what I like about each bowl is the plethora of vegetables, which is more fiber than I can ever get at any pho place. The flavorful broth is vegetable based and the vermicelli noodles are always comforting. You can also pick your protein, which includes shrimp, chicken, beef, or tofu. Top it off with some sriracha and I'm good to go! It's my healthy version of pho and it does satisfy my cravings. I just wish they exhibit this special more often.

Being a former employee here, I was eating at Oaks Cafe all the time. The first time I ate there my expectations were lower then what they are now. The food there is pretty decent considering that it's hospital food. Most of the time there were meals that were spot on and some of the time not so much, it kinda felt like there were numerous chefs in the back and one wasn't very successful. The grill food is decent as well, they cook the food right in front of you and ask you how you want it and what you want in it. I give it a 3 out of 5 for overall operations when you put into consideration the times they open and the variety of good they carry for a hospital.

Yeah! Same food made by the same folks! BEST breakfast and I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL!

First off, this place is a Fairfax staple for a reason. The iconic pink building is impossible to miss, and the outdoor patio is perfect for a nice evening out, while the inside is cozy, welcoming, and always has a great energy. It's the kind of spot that works for everything: a casual weeknight dinner, a weekend brunch with friends, a game day watch party, or even a date night. Now for the food--chef's kiss all around. Everything we've tried here is consistently delicious: their shrimp appetizer is crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, and the cheese dip is creamy, cheesy, and addictive. Their burgers are juicy and cooked to perfection, the seafood dishes are fresh and well-prepared, and their salads are fresh and loaded with toppings. The portions are generous, the prices are totally fair, and every dish is made with high-quality ingredients. The service here is also next-level, just like the reviews say. Our servers (shoutout to Jun and Collin, who are absolute rockstars!) are friendly, attentive, and go above and beyond to make sure you have a great meal. They're quick to refill drinks, check in regularly, and make great menu recommendations, even when the place is packed. If you're in Fairfax and looking for a reliable, delicious spot with amazing food and service, run, don't walk, to Ozzie's Good Eats. It's easily my go-to spot in the area, and I'll be a regular for life!

A special shoutout to our server, Sandra, she was fantastic. We started with the bang bang shrimp--perfectly crispy with a delicious sweet heat that wasn't overpowering. Easily one of the best appetizers we've had. For my entrée, I had the twin lobster tails they were tender, buttery, and flawless. The seasonal vegetables were fresh and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the Connecticut lobster roll, which was loaded with generous chunks of lobster, lightly dressed, and served on a perfectly toasted roll with crispy fries. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious.

It's in a newish shopping center, which, for us, had a bonus-- there is a Harris Teeter there. We needed to pick up some items, so we did before having dinner. We were here for an early dinner. Now that it's getting darker so early, we try to avoid driving after dark, when possible. Thus, we were here around 3 p.m. and were glad to see they were serving dinner at that time. To drink, I chose a mocktail called "What a lychee" which consists of "lychee, pineapple juice, club soda". It was garnished with a lychee. I did enjoy this drink. My husband had a non-alcoholic Stella Artois. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately. Having looked at the menu before arriving, we each knew what we wanted. I chose to try the "Blackened Pan Seared Yellow Fin Tuna" which (supposedly) consists of: "Topped with jumbo lump crab meat, sundried tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, creamy lemon sauce served with rice." My husband chose the "Shrimp platter," which (supposedly) consists of: "crispy beer battered shrimp, coleslaw and chipotle sauce served with hand cut French fries." It took a while for our food to come out. As I was eating, it dawned on me that there was no crab meat or sundried tomatoes. Also, the sauce sure was a creamy lemon sauce. It was more like a miso-flavored sauce. Hard to say if the menu got changed, but no new menus were printed up to fix it. Or was it that the young man who cooked the food wasn't familiar with the entrees? Still, despite the discrepancies, I did like this dish, although it would have been even better if they had prepared it correctly. My husband noticed that there was no Chipotle sauce on his dish. Instead, there were two small containers: one with ketchup and another with tartar sauce. He, too, thought that his shrimp was well prepared, although the breading didn't cling to the shrimp. This experience left us with mixed feelings. On the one hand, we appreciated the friendly, attentive service. Yet, on the other hand, we wonder whether it's worth going again, given the possibility of not getting all the ingredients for one's entree. We liked the ambiance, which evoked images of the beach. They have some nice paintings on one wall depicting the seashore, a lighthouse, and beach houses.

I mean shame on them because they deserve some seriously high praise. And honestly, they pulled out all the stops for their recent New Years Eve dining experience - I'm talking caviar, white truffle, A5 wagyu, a custom cocktail (because they know I like gin and yuzu) and a painfully decadent dessert - What a way to send out 2025! I mean, honestly, the meal was exquisite and so perfectly executed. Each dish is crafted with a passion and care for food that absolutely shines. I mean the Foie Gras (sp??) - I don't even really like the stuff, put the way they sauteed it, put it on top of some sort of savory cake and slathered it with this balsamic gastrique - it was like bacon and pancakes smothered in maple syrup just amplified to 100. Bottom line: I would eat this every day (and amplify my weight by 100 too). The snow crab, I don't know if it's the care in selecting the product or the techniques used to prepare it (probably both ), but they packed so much crab flavor into that dish! And the dark chocolate cheesecake, it was magic that can make something so dark, so bold, so rich feel so light when you are eating it. This was just one specific meal here, but I am surprised and delighted every time we get the privilege to dine at Elyse. It's not just the food, it's the atmosphere and the attention of the staff.
