The wedding started and luckily the music outside changed to a more mellow tune which went well with the ceremony. It was a 10 minute ceremony, the shortest I've ever experienced! The reception inside was decorated nicely. The buffet food was very good and the DJ started his music which kept the party jumping. Everything for the most part went smooth and I never felt stressed. I am only giving them 4 stars because I do feel like they can make some improvements with their food tasting. My husband and I were a little disappointed that we had to taste the same food versus each trying something different. We expressed our concerns and they were able to accommodate us with a second tasting since we were not satisfied with our first tasting. Also, we told the catering team that we had a friend that was vegan. They served him a plate with salad and strawberries. In a way that was our fault for not checking in with them with what the actual plate would be. My friend was a good sport about it but I felt so bad because he was really hungry. Lastly, our package included one hour to clean up after the ceremony ended but all my guests were rushed out by security leaving just my parents, myself and a couple of bridesmaids to gather our belongings. If they didnt rush everybody out we could have had more people help with taking down our personal decorations and not felt so rushed and stressed to get out. At this point Charlene was no longer in the building since she was with us since the morning but I do hope that in the future security respects that one hour and does not kick guests out. Overall, beautiful venue, amazing coordinator and great price! Despite the small complaints and hiccups, I would highly recommend this place as a wedding venue.

Post-wedding review: venue was great…read more Coordination/answering questions regarding wedding planning was great. It was a bit annoying having to fill out the DJ forms several times and repeating similar info, but I understand we were caught in between them switching systems. Not everything was perfect, but nothing in life will ever be perfect. It was raining on the morning of the wedding, so we were very close to having to switch everything indoor. We made the call at around 2:30/3pm for a 4pm ceremony, so naturally some seats were missing and the staff had to shift things around last min. The staff graciously let us into the venue an hour early because the weather was not great. We had originally planned to start with the makeup service outdoor first. Venue's indoor bathroom toilets was not clean when we first entered. Good thing my bridesmaid checked and we were able to inform the staff before guests arrived. They took care of it immediately. I do highly recommend having a second coordinator, or have someone in the wedding party as well reversed in the wedding schedule/plan as the bride. There was mixed information at a point, and that resulted some confusion during the photos with friends and family at the alter. As a person who plans/organize/coordinate event for work occasionally, I couldn't help but felt the urge to push things along at several times during the wedding to keep the schedule on track. (Ie: vendors were supposed to eat at 6:30, so they can be ready to serve desserts/do photos at 7pm, but I had to remind the staff again. It's understandable that they wanted to wait for the vendors to be settled in first, but I really wanted to make sure things were on schedule since we only had 2 hours booked for the dessert vendor.) The DJ was good, but he did ask us questions on the day of. Some of those questions could've been redirected to the coordinator, but I guess he wanted to make sure. I did wish he asked some of the questions earlier since we had guests standing in front of the mansion & the wedding party was ready to make the grand entrance, but we were waiting for the DJ to ask questions and then make his way to his station. In the grand scheme of things, it was fine, but I was hoping for guests to do less waiting while doing nothing. The tabling layout was a bit off centered from what I had originally planned, but it was too chaotic on the day of to actually check and make adjustments. I was told that they needed to leave the space there originally so they can move things around, but that they will readjust the tables afterward. I did not have time to check the table after they did the first adjustment. As for the hor d'ourves, I was told that they'd prepare a separate plate for the bride and the groom, but it was actually a separate plate for the whole wedding party. I don't think we got enough for everyone because my husband and I only got to eat one out of the 5 we chose (we paid for extras). We did have to leave for photos immediately and asked the staff to put them in the bridal suite for us. My brother stole/ate a few of them while we were taking pictures, so I had to ask for more and they only had chicken skewer left...and it was cold.

I understand the time line was a quick one so that's not their issue. I knew they wanted to help. The food was delicious including the desserts!! We tasted the whole menu at the Granda a month prior. The food is excellent!! The decorations were completed by Luxe. Savannah who was very patient and met with my daughter and I twice to review. Quite pricey. Table centerpieces beautiful. Stairway was pretty. All decorations beautiful. The seating chart was done last minute and Christina did a wonderful job! I really appreciate Leal helping with last minute DJ and allowing an outside karaoke last minute. They did not need to do that, and they did! As far as the night of party lighting not so great. It was like a spotlight was on you. I had asked and a few others had asked about lighting. My daughter's theme was Midnight Enchanted garden. Way too bright. Willow heights allowed balloon company to come in early to help with balloon ceiling which was a super plus! I had hoped for a coffee station. Even though it was shared it would be there it was forgotten. S'mores area was darling but maybe a few low seats would have helped so kids could sit around fire pit. Dj Darren was great however I had hoped for him to help get the teens to dance. Maybe a dance off? My daughter hoped for that also. He had added some personalized touches which everyone greatly enjoyed. The staff was kind and helpful. This is not leals issue but it may have helped for coordinator to recommend photos outside with tea lights and fountain during night hours. I didn't think to ask photographer and photographer left before I could ask. I emailed a few times after event and no one responded. Would help to send out an after event review form. One heads-up: you can't bring your own drinks, not even water, since they want you to buy theirs. That would be fair if they offered a full selection, but they don't carry sparkling water, which we're big fans of. They serve pizza on weekends, and I have to give a shout-out here: the pizza was great! Crispy crust, good cheese, and a nice hint of garlic. Now for what could be better. At a winery, you'd expect some good wines. Sadly, not here. The white selection was limited to Pinot Grigio. It was a bit watery but pretty good, and unfortunately they ran out of it. This year's Rosé has the sweetness of unfermented grape juice. It's so heavy you can barely drink it without diluting it with water. The red, Cask 140, is the most expensive on the list. I don't think I've ever tasted such a dense red. If you're hoping for nuanced flavors, you won't find them here. Everything is overpowered by prune, and it's very tannic. So of the three wines we tried, two I'd never order again, and the one decent option ran out. Honestly, this place feels more like Fortino Pizzeria than Fortino Winery.

I saw other people enclosed their guest using tents. Personally, I feel that's blocking the beautiful scenery in the back. We decided to do pillars and drape them around so the space feels open yet elegant and decorated. We also brought in someone to do our Italian string lights from Chic Event rentals. They did beautiful lighting for a romantic night vibe. Casa Maria does have a flood light which did came in handy towards the very end. But I wanted the night to be more romantic and less of a bright light in your face while dancing. We used the inside for cocktail hour and had the guest sit down outside for dinner. I loved that our guest had places where they can look around or step outside for a smoke on the deck. If you're looking for a nice romantic vintage Spanish vibe this is it. They are strict on alcohol but what we found is that people really like micheladas. We had shmack_shak_ cater our micheladas and they were a hit. We bought all the alcohol and also had a bartender from Elma's catering come and manage the bar indoors. The venue staff was very kind and helpful. William who runs it was very attentive and answered all my questions in a timely manner anytime I had any. He was there the day of the wedding to open up the venue for us so our team could prepare for the arrival of our guests. He manned the bar the evening of and our guests really enjoyed him. He had the bar as fully stoked as he could keep it but our people kept him on his toes. He had to do three liquor runs throughout the event because our people kept buying drinks. The venue itself was pretty useful. We were able to use the stage for our band, the courtyard for our dinner and special dances, the kitchen for our families to warm up food, & the reception hall to have our ceremony. This venue is very easy to use and I'd highly recommend it. The only other thing I would highly recommend is making sure to have your event fall or early spring as San Juan Bautista can be very hot. We got the perfect date doing it Labor Day weekend. Also, make sure your team works in a timely manner if not they will eat into your deposit if they stay longer than the time allotted to clean up. Disclaimer: If you are LGBT you cannot legally get married on the Casa Maria grounds as it is part of the Catholic Church.
