The house has a lot of space. That's a plus. And there's a pool and pickle ball court and hot tub. But the actual space is grungy and oddly furnished with no comfortable seating to speak of and frankly ugly decor. A mishmash of items with no thread. Overall I suppose they're going for farmhouse eclectic but my take was where can we dump old used furniture and call it a home. The bathrooms are so dirty and the little things like rusty shelving holding the toilet paper far away from the toilet are just annoying and gross. It's definitely NOT somewhere I'd want to do a wedding or important event. The family weekend was enough for me. I would not recommend this if you're expecting wine country chic. My 800th review goes to Fitz Place! This is a very unique venue and definitely a hidden gem! Fitz Place is located in San Martin, just between Morgan Hill and Gilroy! This venue is not only great for wedding ceremonies and receptions, but also family gatherings and weekend getaways! There's a large house (with 7 english themed bedrooms and 8 bathrooms) and a guest house on the property! There's also a big front yard and backyard with a pool and barn! Oh, and there's a "man cave" where the groomsmen chill before the wedding. haha It's a really beautiful venue and Liz the owner does a great job along with another Liz, Mike, and her staff! If you are interested in booking the venue, I highly recommend you contact the venue and make an appointment to have Mike show you around the property! I recommend trying to book at least 2 days (or more days if it's a family gathering) to fully enjoy the property. They tend to book fast since it's such a great venue! They are very accommodating and have good email communications! I highly recommend Fitz Place for your next gathering!! read more

We rented this place to have our family all together during my wedding reception near by and it was the worst choice we could have ever made. This place is filthy and there is a rodent problem in the fields there. Like you can look out and just see the verman jumping up and down! For starters the bed linens aren't cleaned. They specifically instruct you to not change the bed linens and now I understand why! We had not only pet hair but human hair all over the pillows and bedding & sheets! There are dirty pay prints on the bedding additionally. The A/C in the upstairs is completely broken. The air filter is just black! I'm not sure when it was last changed. Maybe a year or two ago! The over hasn't been cleaned and it you try to use it ske will come out of the over from it burning all the dirt that is caked on. The counter tops were all sticky upon our arrival! The refrigerator has a moldy stench and you can't use the ice because it just reaks of mold. On the refrigerator where the water catches from the ice maker has black mold on it. All the dishes are dirty and the diswasher needs to be cleaned as you can see the soap scum on the inside from Lach of cleaning. The floors are just black. We spilled some water and cleaned it up with a paper towel and the paper towel turned black! The shower curtains are not changed regularly as they are full of soap scum. It's just disgusting that this is allowed to be rented in these times with Covid and all and to charge the rates they do ir ridiculous! read more

For my husband and I, Fitz was the perfect venue! We wanted an outdoor space with plenty of natural beauty and Fitz definitely delivered! On the service: We started the planning process with the previous coordinator, Kendra, and were introduced halfway to Liz who currently manages the events. Working with Kendra was wonderful. She had been there for a while so really knew what she was doing and was very accommodating. As an event coordinator myself, I know what Liz had to go through to get to know a new venue and a new system, and I think she handled the transition well. Kendra had promised us some things that weren't offered under new policies, and Liz was very gracious to honor what we had been told. It would've been nice to get quicker responses to some of my questions but that wasn't a big deal. Overall, I'm very pleased with the overall service and professionalism of Liz, Liz, Kendra, and Mike. On the venue: The venue itself is gorgeous. It's just a bit off of a busier road, but it feels secluded and has 4+ very different spaces for different parts of a wedding or party. It wasn't great for us that we had to rent out the whole house as part of the deal, but it was nice to have the master bedroom as a bridal suite. The house is super cute and quirky. Overall: It's a beautiful venue and makes for gorgeous photos and the service is awesome! read more

This place was a nightmare and Liz Freitas, the owner of this place is last person you want to have anywhere near your special day. Rewind back to March 2018 when I booked or my wedding, I was excited and over joyed. The place is what we wanted and were excited to having for our May 2019 nuptials. They were also being managed by another Liz,(that at first glance I was in question of as well, but I was trying not to judge. But who wears a spaghetti strap, braless dress when they are way over the age limit of a senior discount coffee?) When looking at the place she showed us it was nice and yes it needed a few minor repairs. She also told us of "upgrades" that were happening. There was supposed to be an outside set of bathrooms built. There was going to be a full outside string lighting in the backyard area and the concrete area near the barn. Also there was going to be a new welcome area for cocktails in the front of the house. While we were making our decision on venues the manager Liz had called my wedding planner and let us know if we paid $X.XX now before taxes then they would lower the rate, She indicted they needed to pay taxes and it would help them. ***That should have been my RED FLAG, We went with the venue for so many reasons and the FULL property was to be included. Fast forward to June 2018 and they had a open house for there upcoming brides for the remainder 2018/2019. They introduced a new staff, including braless Liz. They said the bathrooms were coming, the lighting was going up, they offered other packages to use there vintage furniture for setting and we met there "PREFERRED" vendors and a new interactive website. Mind you when I went there the vendors were not impressive. The unimpressive lady they had taking initial walk in photos was rude and impossible to get a hold of after the event. Also in the rose bushes there was a dead rat hanging by its jaw. YES! A RAT HANGING BY ITS JAW and I removed it with a stick. It looked like someone had purposely put it there. I got it carried i on the stick and showed it to both Liz's and they acted lie it was an everyday occurrence. There were also multiple rat traps, raccoon traps and other traps near the "Man Cave". ***2nd RED FLAG Fast forward to April 12, 2019 the night before my birthday. My wedding was scheduled for May 24, 2019. I have multiple parties staying at the facilities for housing. I was having my Wedding Ceremony, Dinner Rehearsal and guests the for the entire wedding for 3 days. I had my scheduled appt with my wedding planner and saw her, She said we were waiting for Liz Freitas, I asked why? She said, She cancelled the venue and cannot have weddings there. I LOST MY SHIT! When Liz got there, I was a mess and tried to listen. She told me that she knew months ago she was having issues with the neighbors, and them recently purchasing the lot next door and not happing with events there. She said there were complaints, She First said she was served papers, then she said she was scared to be served papers. She said they had been giving her a hard time for months. I finally said, "Why didn't you tell us this back then and not wait till now to do this?", Her response was, "I thought it would be fixed by now" I had many choice words for her. My mom, dad, Fiance, wedding planner were all there and and Ohhh, Liz brought her 3 year old daughter. (How professional) Mind you: The outside bathrooms never were put up so we already purchased portable ADA luxury restrooms, extra lighting was purchased, because the lighting was not established. My catering was paid for and determined in milage. My rehearsal dinner planner and set. I was getting married Memorial day Weekend so I had to plan early. All this out the window! I went home and then checked Yelp and only then saw her recent reviews were horrible! Before when i booked they were good and positive, hence the reason I went to look, but I never had a reason to look back. Now I know I should have. This was a nightmare. She was not willing to pay for my new invitations to go out after I found a new venue, I had to now get transportation (limo) My cancelation of the portables, I had to find a venue, a rehearsal dinner place EVERYTHING. Liz then said she would offer me the place but I cannot have any events on the grounds. Come to find out, She only let me have access to the main house and that was a disaster. The day I got there. There was old liquid in the freezer like old ice cream melted and no one cleaned it up, there was old towels left in the rooms, the Cable did not work in the bed rooms an the lighting did not work. There were fixtures that were just laying on the floor and junk thrown in the rooms. I arrived on Wednesday, That Thursday, I had the cleaning lady, the Direct TV, the Maintenance guys all at there. So much for relaxing! Then the gardener came on my wedding day. I hope for Karma! read more

BRIDES BEWARE!- Owner is unresponsive to many attempts via email text and call , I paid in full and never got in contact with them again once they took my money. We got engaged in June 2018, went to look at places in July 2018. The Fitz Place was at the top of my list and slowly became my biggest nightmare! When they hadn't sent back a countersigned copy after stating they would 4 different times in two weeks- I should have known then and there. We took the tour I decided it was exactly that I envisioned for a weekend stay and a small ceremony and reception. We talked it over pros/cons and agreed this is where we wanted to get married. Fitz Place sent over the contract we signed within days and PAID IN FULL for the entire ceremony reception and weekend stay at the house with 22 guests. Two weeks later and many excuses they have not returned the countersigned contract. Have given me a million excused and refuse to answer the phone. Liz the owner finally sent ONE email in three weeks setting up a call and a minute before the call was to take place 1:59pm- i have the email- with the owner my wedding planner myself and my fiancé she sends an email cancelling the call. Here we are now with NO WEDDING VENUE THEY TOOK OUR MONEY AND THEN GHOSTED! We have paid for: The venue in full Deposits on every vendor Travel accommodations for all family and guest Sent out invitations I am now without a venue and somewhere to get married. I have been more than kind patiently waiting as i understand life happens. But we all have problems in our life but we have upheld our end of the bargain by signing the contract paying and full and this is what we get from a business. I am incredibly upset and would NOT recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is a wedding venue/event space that has a rustic/farmhouse feel with vintage charm. The house was made in the 1930s and later became a bed and breakfast called Country Rose. Two years ago, it was purchased and was then turned into a wedding venue space. You can also rent the space for any other special occasion (ex: family reunions, retreats). The ceremony takes place in front of the house by the oak trees. Reception takes place in the "backyard space" either in the barn or the grass area. The house has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms and there is a side cottage with 4 bedrooms where the groundskeeper stays. When you rent this venue for a wedding, you get 1 overnight stay in the house with the cottage as well. You can pay more money to stay there for longer than the 1 night stay. Each bedroom in the house is themed after something England-related. The backyard has a swing, patio, fire pit, pool, bocce ball area, and other lawn games you can rent (Jenga, etc.). The master bedroom is also the bridal suite. It has a little living room with a furnace, a large bathroom with lots of mirrors, and a coffee bar. The man cave is separate from the house and looks like a Western barn. Inside is a foosball table, a bar, and other "manly" things like a knights' armor, man cave rules and darts. Half of that barn space is used as the Fitz Place office that is also their showroom. Their showroom has random knick knacks like signs, baskets, shelves, chairs, tables, etc. that you can rent to decorate your wedding. They are renovating and adding extra things to this place like wooden posts for the lights by the barn and an extra cocktail space in front of the house by the ceremony area. Lights are an extra cost for this place (there are different packages but the full light package is $2500). They have a projector you can rent for $200. read more

We had a wedding reception weekend at Fitz place last year and it was great. The house itself is enormous and beautiful so it could accommodate most of our guests. The rooms have private bathrooms and cute themes; the kitchen is huge and has everything you need for cooking and eating. One downside was that they didn't have an iron for the guests to use--kind of an odd oversight for a wedding venue! If you choose Fitz Place for your event, you need to be very careful about your contract. Read it several times and walk around the property with the coordinator and be very clear on what exactly you can and cannot use-- and take pictures of everything! We had some instances of planning for some amenities we saw there only to find out it wasn't in our contract later. Another reviewer mentioned a brochure--we never saw a brochure, but it would have been extremely helpful! They could provide a cost breakdown of what is included for what price. One major thing that needs to be fixed: outdoor lighting at night. One of our guests tripped hurt herself on the way to her car because there is not enough light between the barn and the house. Overall, Fitz place is a gorgeous venue. Our guests and a great time and our pictures were amazing. Just make sure you are crystal clear about what you are allowed to use at the site. read more

I was very excited when I first discovered Fitz Place. It was beautiful! After a little back and forth Liz and I established a time we could come out and tour. Liz mentioned that we would either be toured by her or Mike. We were met by Mike who did a great job of giving us the first part of the tour. He really set the scene and gave us an idea of what other people did for their weddings there. We were really excited! Then Liz showed up. She broke into our conversation with Mike without introducing herself to ask if anyone was in the cottage bathroom. When she finally returned, she very hesitantly introduced herself. She took over the tour, but really just took us into areas and basically said, "well here it is", without any embellishment or providing details. She herself did not seem excited about the venue. We also then found out that there was a photo shoot going on that morning so Liz left us standing alone in the kitchen at one point to tend to the photo shoot. I will say Liz was trying to be accommodating of my schedule and fit us in that morning, but in this case, I think there was just too much going on for a proper tour to be given. When we finally went back to Liz's office to discuss pricing, she had to clear her kids and dog out of the office. Her desk was covered in papers, she had no brochure with pricing information ready for us, showed no interest in the details of our wedding, and even asked where else we were looking and made a joke that we have eclectic tastes, which I found inappropriate. She finally found a pricing brochure for my mom and said she'd get back to us with a proposal. When we did get the proposal, there were discrepancies between the proposal and the agreement including how long our hold on the date would last and what type of furniture would be available to us. One thing was wine barrels which Mike had touted as something unique and fun we could use and Liz eventually took off the proposal saying they're not guaranteed just "something nice they have around". I sent a few questions back and forth with Liz including information about pricing (all stuff that could have been handled in person had Liz been more organized the day of our tour) and in one email Liz asked if she could release our hold - a full 5 days before our deadline. That was the final straw for us when we realized we couldn't work with her and told her to release the date. I was sad to let this place go, but Liz struck us as too unprofessional and unorganized to work with for the wedding. Maybe we struck her at a bad time, and if so I apologize, but it was a bad mark on our wedding venue search. The venue itself was amazing and beautiful and what I had dreamed of and the pictures of weddings there look fantastic. read more

Was recommend to have my wedding here. Loved the place and booked our wedding last summer for this year. Fast forward to 2019.. SERIOUSLY THE FITZ HAS MADE MY WEDDING PLANNING A NIGHTMARE. They can't even communicate and reply to emails or phone calls in a timely manner. With planning an important event, this is important and for a place that claims to have weddings and huge events you would think these people would get that. Responding to an email or phone call 2 weeks later is UNACCEPTABLE. What kind of establishment are you trying to run if you can even do something as simple as communicating with those who've already put a deposit down for a wedding. Are you kidding me?! Just do yourself a favor and AVOID this place at all costs. We've worked with Liz, Christina, the manager. Everyone and so far, all have been horrible. Thanks so much for making my planning far from being a great experience. One word of advice, hire better staff to run your business or QUIT the business all together and save future couples the trouble of dealing with this crap. read more

We had our wedding at the Fitz Place and it was beautiful, my dream wedding venue. However, as beautiful as this venue is, it wasn't worth all the stress of constantly trying to communicate with the wedding coordinator, Liz G. She rarely returned my calls and emails; the only time that she would was when I CC'ed the owner on the email. We booked this venue based on the flexibility of the place along with the promises that Liz provided. However, when the day got closer, she failed to follow through. Always make sure you document every conversation you have with them so that you can reference it when the time comes. Better yet, just find another venue. read more

The Fitz Place is a hidden gem! I was having a big birthday party and wanted a place that to host six couples coming from out of town. I looked at hotels, I looked at different airbnb locations close to each other. Nothing felt right. I happened on The Fitz Place and everything literally fell into...well...place! First, the house is amazing. Every room is special, the beds are comfortable and the home is perfectly decorated. There is even a cottage in the back if there is not enough room in the big house. When I visited to check it out, I was even more excited because, instead of having to find a place for dinner, THEY HAVE A KICKASS BARN! It's enclosed, it has ceiling heaters, and it's a wonderful open space, with room for at least 15 rounders of 10. I got the chairs/tables from them (on-site) and had the best party ever with over 75 people, a DJ and caterer! The best parts: I came in under budget on the entire weekend (because we did breakfasts and lunches at the house), we were five minutes from awesome wineries which we did during the day while the guys golfed, and there is a Facilities guy on the property who was incredible to us. Helped move chairs, got pretty lights set up in the trees, everything I wanted and more! If you are putting together a wedding, a graduation party, a pre-wedding get-together, a corporate function, any event that requires a large group of people, take a look at this property! read more

I still can't believe I found this place! I got to hold the wedding of my dreams here. Liz and Liz are so great to work with, and the property is just the most amazing and adorable place ever. I can't wait to rebook this every year to celebrate my anniversary with my closest friends. Each room is decorated so beautifully and has such a welcoming feel to it. The house is designed to be comfortable for large groups, so it's a great little getaway destination as well. I attended Fitz Place's Grand Opening in October and was the lucky winner, when my business card was drawn at the raffle for a free night's stay. I chose to host a formal dinner party for 20 close friends and family in the barn to celebrate the launch of my event planning business- Party Pizzazz by Cori. It was absolutely fabulous! Several of my guests stayed with me at the inn. The rooms were each beautifully decorated in different decor & the accommodations were perfect in every way possible! The grounds are gorgeous and would be a wonderful setting for a wedding. The care taker was very helpful and had several tables and chairs are already set up when we arrived. They have a nice bar that worked perfectly for the party. Everything was impeccable and party ready! All I had to was bring the linens, decor and food. We hired a very talented jazz trio, which added to the ambience of the night! We took pictures with the vineyard in the background, which made for a gorgeous backdrop. read more

Where to start with Fitz Place! My fiance and I toured this venue in Feb of 2018 and wanted to book immediately. We thought it was the most perfect mix of the things that we wanted for the wedding. We loved that it was a small, intimate estate that could offer such a beautiful backdrop for our wedding (ie those gorgeous Oak trees). Unfortunately, we ran into a few snafoos along the way with Fitz Place and we will not be able to host our wedding there. However, I truly wish we could as it is so so beautiful. Liz F. I wanted to find a new, incredible location for our school's annual auction. We had decided we wanted to do a more natural, outdoor (in this case, Western, but definitely doesn't have to be) theme for our event. Having been to Fitz Place once before. I just knew that this would be the perfect venue. It did not dissapoint! From working with us to ensure we had the details (as many times as we asked - and we had a lot of people on our Home & School club committee reaching out to them!), Fitz Place was responsive and answered any and all questions with details. They made sure we had plenty of time to review the property, were very clear about what services they could and could not offer, including rules and regulations, city ordinances, etc. - very thorough. What was also helpful was they have a groundskeeper who lives on-site so he was there during the event in the case of any issues (which was great, for example a toilet was overfilled and he made sure it was tended to ASAP!). Their staff was incredible to work with. Aside from the staff, the place itself is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! A hidden gem in our local backyard. The owner, Liz and her team have done such a great job with making this look beautifully rustic and modern all at the same time. Personal touches are everywhere and you can see the attention to detail and thought put in to each area of the property, inside and out. I would not hesitate to host an event there again! read more

This review is very long overdue but I really wanted to leave a post because of the stress I went through with booking Fitz. My first impression of this place was "cozy" and "intimate". I thought it would be the perfect venue for an intimate wedding that we wanted with our close family and friends. A friend that lived close by recommended to us so we thought we'd take a tour of the venue. Liz, the owner, was there and was very responsive and accommodating with us at first. She quoted us online before our visit and listed out all the things that would be included with our venue. I thought everything was great and wanted to just think things through over the next couple of weeks before finalizing the contract. After a few weeks of going back and forth, Liz started to respond later (average of 5-7 days) and when I pointed some things out that were different than what we had originally discussed she started being curt in her response and took even longer to get back to me. By this time, it was months after our visit and I was getting very frustrated and annoyed. I tried to stay positive and polite since she was working with our tight budget but it made us feel very uneasy and upset in the end. I felt like I was being dragged around because of the "deal" she was giving me and didn't feel like she was making any efforts to close the deal. Liz came back to us with a final proposal which was more of an ultimatums with different propositions than what we had discussed in person, on the phone, and over email just a week before she sent it over. I was quite shocked and was not happy how things were going but still wanted to make this work. She returned with a different proposal that was slightly adjusted, but still not what we had originally agreed on. I requested for a phone call but she never made an effort to schedule it, saying she was only available on a weekend at a specific time frame. I asked if we can schedule it at another time because that didn't work for me. She didn't get back to me for nearly 2 weeks and said that she was handing me over to someone that's going to manage the contracts for her. Afterwards, the new "events manager" reached out to me a couple of times but it was too late at that point. I was more than just jaded about working with Liz or having my wedding there. It's something you just don't do to a bride that was looking to lock down the venue with the initially agreed terms. Overall, the communication was very poor. She wanted to get corporate business with me as well and offered deals at first but when it looked like it wasn't going to happen she quickly changed her position. The whole experience with her left a bitter taste in my mouth and I only hope that no other bride has to go through something like this. Maybe she will keep her promises going forward or the other person managing contracts will be better but my experience with the Fitz Place has made the first part of my wedding planning experience very stressed. read more

I was lucky enough to spend the weekend at Fitz Place for a ladies retreat. The grounds are beautiful! Rooms are comfortable, modern and well appointed. Overall the venue has so much to offer and is a meeting planner's dream when it comes to versatile spaces for various functions all in one venue. We turned the barn into a disco, did morning yoga on the lawn, had a movie night in the main living room, morning mimosas under the great oak tree and hours of poolside fun. I'm a corporate meeting & events planner and this is an ideal option for an executive, BOD or team offsite/retreat, company picnic and a phenomenal option for a wedding venue. The farmhouse is spacious and accommodates most bridal party sizes. This venue offers tons of shady spots for a ceremony, reception on site, rehearsal dinner in the main house or outdoors without spoiling the ceremony venue. Photo opportunities are endless at Fitz Place with majestic sunsets and vineyard backdrops. There's plenty of room for parking too. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. My husband and I got married here a few weeks ago. The site is absolutely stunning! We were able to make use of the whole property to create a different "look" for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. With all of the natural beauty, the decorations and floral arrangements that were needed were very minimal. The lawn games and other rentals that are available helped to create a fun atmosphere. We stayed the night before our wedding, and the night of our wedding at the house on site. If you can, I highly recommend it. The property is so pretty and peaceful, and enjoying it the night before the wedding was amazing. It helped me feel well rested and settled in before the wedding. The Inn rooms had a clean modern aesthetic within, yet the structure of the building and decor outside the rooms maintained the "old timey country barn" aesthetic. The kitchen and communal rooms all looked clean, nicely refurnished and modernized. The outside areas are beautiful as well. What a find, exactly the property we were looking for! We booked Fitz Place for our intimate wedding through airbnb, the location and the grounds are great, exactly what we and our guests were thinking of for our ideal American Dream. We organised the wedding from our home in the UK and Liz the owner & Liz the wedding planner set our minds at ease meaning we didn't feel the need to visit the property (or area) before booking the wedding. A special mention should also go out to Mike (who manages the property/grounds) as he made himself available at all times throughout the visit and was very friendly, we arrived after some of our guests but Mike had already made everyone feel at home. This venue is definitely special, with its quaint corners, grassy fields, and gorgeous golden hills rolling on the background. When we first saw this place, we fell in love. Liz and Mike were also great to work with! They were very knowledgeable of the property, easy to communicate with and accommodated our requests to make sure our vision came to life. We rented Fitz Place for the entire weekend, which was one of the perks they offered. It was perfect! We were able to essentially host two different events (our welcome reception and wedding) in the same location, making it easier for our guests. Even though we had 130 people, it felt very intimate. Beautiful Venue! We recently had the pleasure of planning a client's wedding a the Fitz Place, it was a first for us and turned out beautiful! From our experience the Liz's were easy to work with, responsive, accommodating and helpful, all things we look for as coordinators. The venue is gorgeous, and has several unique spots all on one property. While on our tour, I couldn't help but think of all the different ways we could use the space in the future. One great highlight that our couple was particularly drawn to and stood out, was that they could party the night away in a beautiful barn on a lush vineyard, and then simply walk across the lawn to their room. Sure you can achieve easy access to your room at a hotel wedding, but how many places afford you the ability to have your ranch/vineyard wedding and still have the luxury of a quick walk to your bed...?
