The Nail Social can be found inside a strip mall, between A Corner Cafe (which surprisingly is not on a corner, lol) and Yin Ji Chang Fen with plenty of parking available. Since my family and I were staying in Markham during our last vacation, I wanted to find a nail salon in the city, which ended up leading me here (which I found on Yelp). There wasn't any information about price though on this Yelp page but am happy to add these photos of the pricing that I took when I arrived. I initially had made an appointment for Tuesday, around 2 pm the day before. However, my lunch with one of my aunts and uncles went longer than expected and so I had to call to cancel and ask if I could change the time to a later time. The girl on the phone was so kind and told me because I wasn't exactly sure what time I would be available to have my nails done, she suggested to call before coming in just so I would not have to wait if I was to do a walk in. So later that day, I called prior and the girl told me to come in, so I walked in around 4:55 pm and waited a little over 10 minutes before being asked to take a seat by an employee named Joey. I wanted to get gel nails, which is different from shellac nails for those that may confuse the two (especially since sometimes nail salons will use both words interchangeably but they are not the same). Shellac nails are kind of like a semi- permanent polish, which doesn't last as long (and also is cheaper than gel nails). But gel nails are a semi- permanent gel nail, which does last a few weeks longer. Gel nails cost $75 for a new set. I also wanted a design (I almost always get a design with my nails, which does cost extra but I don't mind), which I had a photo on my phone to show Joey. I told her what design I wanted for my ring finger and middle finger and the same on the other hand (so total of 4 nails that would have design). Joey told me that cost would be $75, in which she didn't charge me extra for design (so I made sure to tip her higher because of it). I liked that Joey took a photo of the design I had in mind with her camera phone so that she could refer to it on her own phone while she was painting my nails. Joey definitely is very talented and I just loved the design she had, as I picked an ice cream cone with sprinkles. She also helped me to find the right colors that I wanted (I wasn't looking for the exact shade and am pretty flexible). I really loved the way the design and the pink color I picked for the rest of my nails, as it really went with the ice cream theme. Although Joey told me that my nails would last 4 weeks, my nails lasted beyond that (and never chipped or lifted. Being in health care, I don't baby my hands and I also wash them constantly, honestly these were probably the best nails I have ever had done). The only reason I took them off was because it really need a fill since my nails had grown over. Joey told me that she had not done an ice cream cone before and she was also happy with her results too. Now this is my first time getting my nails done in Canada and am not sure if it is not customary to get a hand massage and lotion on your hands after a manicure or not. I didn't get one after this manicure but have always had it done with the nail salons in California and also in Hawaii where I have gotten my nails done. Not a big deal, but I wished I had brought my own lotion to put on since my hands were dry. But overall, I am very happy with my experience and would come back the next time I visit Markham in the future. Please note that they do accept credit card but there is a credit card fee. I randomly found this spot on my last trip to Toronto and was very excited I did. We walked in for my reservation and got seated and started right away. Personally I found the regular pedicure to go really fast and it was done in 10 min whereas when I normally get it done its usually a little longer and I get a foot/leg massage. Here the service was very quick I got a gel manicure and was happy with how the whole process went down, anytime I had a question on the nail design they were very open in letting me know how much extra it would be before proceeding so there was no surprises at the end with the bill. I highly recommend this place, everyone is respectful & it is a very peaceful environment. When I first came here, they had explained exactly what they use for my nails etc. She was very understanding and made sure I understood before moving forward. If you're looking for a place to just get the job done and not for the pampering experience, then this is a fine place. The place is big enough and the seating is far enough from each other that it doesn't feel uncomfortable. It's also reasonably priced, shellac is $40 and it's an extra $10 for design. Interesting part is google shows this place closes at 7:30, but they booked me for 7:30. That might explain why they didn't want to socialize while doing the job. If you ask for their opinion for anything, they'll just say "it's up to you". I don't particularly mind per se, but considering, it's called nail social it's ironic that there was zero small talk. Again, if you just want to get your nails done quickly, for a reasonable price point, then yes I would recommend it. read more

It was my first time here and honestly I called last minute to see if they had availability in the morning. I appreciate that they only book what they can manage and are transparent about that. I also appreciate that they're clean. They make you wash your hands when you come in. They also disinfect the chairs and tools they use. I came in for a shellac mani and pedi. The person I started with was nice and cute and did a thorough quick job which is what I like. I had my pedi done first. I asked if it was possible to do some nail art for my hands and she said she didn't think there was enough time which was fine but thought I'd ask. In hindsight I should of stuck to just a normal one colour hands appointment. She ended up passing me to another girl for the nail art who did have time. After we had the standard manicure upkeep part done she passed me to the nail art girl. Now to be honest I wanted to love the actual manicure application and the nail art and I don't know if this is a one off but....the girl who ended up painting my nails kept redoing the lines and comparing my two hands so much...bless her heart... that I ended up with a lot of small air bubbles when it was cured. There was also some dust in there cured to the nail too. And I mean it's fine when you're looking far away the nails look great but when you look closely ...it does end up bothering you. Definitely think for $25 dollars extra I shouldn't have had that and also time wise it took a very long time. Saw good reviews on Yelp so decided to try this place out. Called same day for a morning appointment for a pedicure. I felt safe with mandatory mask policy, limit of 10 customers in the salon, Covid screening questionnaire, and mandatory use of hand sanitizer before they allow you to step into the shop to select your preferred nail colours. I have never had shellac and since it was my first non-home pedicure in two years, I decided to treat myself to one. They have a several booklets with all the shellac colours they offer. Maggie and many of the staff were kind and very professional. She and several other staff spoke English well (which hasn't always been my experience at nail salons). Maggie took her time to shape and clean my cuticles and smooth and buff my nails. They line the pedicure foot baths with plastic before each customer use, which was reassuring from a cleanliness standpoint. My nails never looked so good! Booking process was very easy: called to see if there was a spot in two days - told them what I wanted to do, that's it! There was no wait when I arrived. She can definitely do designs based off of a mediocre photo. I didn't get her name, but a different girl did my extensions and gel base. I don't get my nails done too often, but when I do, I always come back to The Nail Social. They can get quite busy in the afternoon/evening, so it is best to call a few hours in advanced if you are planning to go later in the day. Long story short, I'm SO happy I stumbled upon The Nail Social. The technicians somehow manage to strike the perfect balance between being detail oriented and efficient. Before applying the gel, the technician made sure my nails were cut, buffed and filed evenly. Even though she worked quickly, she certainly did not sacrifice quality. I had an amazing service with Cathy and other nail technicians are so nice, friendly, and talent. Here I am bouncing from nail salon to nail salon again...but this time it's because I'm following my favourite nail tech Joey. I've seen the Nail Social open a while ago and thought about checking them out but never got the chance until I learned my nail tech moved here. This place is about the same size as other salons and there a bunch of nail techs working on a Saturday which is great because they get really busy. I highly suggest you make an appointment. I glanced and their booking calendar and every tech was basically back to back packed! I do believe they take walk-ins but you might wind up waiting. The quality of work is phenomenal. I'm currently typing this review with my shellac manicure that I've had on for 5 weeks now! Only one nail broke but that was my fault nothing to do with the quality of work here. The salon itself is super clean and I love how they have massive tvs here with subtitles so I can watch/read while getting my nails done. Tons of colours to choose from as well so I am definitely not disappointed. One star docked because of the parking lot situation. I didn't get the name of the pleasant nail technician that did my nails, but she did an outstanding job! She paid very close attention to detail and took her time perfecting each step of my service.
