OMG! Brendan is a guitar triage Doctor. Had an old Ibanzez RG550 that was on it's last legs. Took it several places, spent enough trying to get this to play decent that I could have just bought another guitar. Heard about Brendan from a friend. What he was able to do to this guitar is short of amazing. Plays better than ever, quick turn around, and exceptionally reasonable for the work done. All I can say is Brendan is truly a luthier! They all claim to be, but the proof is in the final product. Can't tecommend Brendan enough for anyone looking for a real pro to work on your guitars. Worth the drive if he' out of your way. This little music shop has been around forever! Well, 30+ years according to their website which is pretty much forever going by Arizona standards ;). My mom used to take me here on occasion to get sheet music or strings back when I was a youngin' in school. I came here recently to get some accessories for a new guitar I bought. The gentleman at the counter was so kind and friendly and he helped me out with picking out the right types I needed. If you need guitar picks they have a large selection of prepackaged, and "pick" your own at 3 for $1. They also had a large selection of different guitar straps with varying prices that were comparable to what you'd find on Amazon. I wanted the nut on my electric guitar replaced because of a low slot but instead Brendan fixed it with bone dust and CA glue, adjusted the action of the nut, adjusted the truss rod, and lowered the action on the guitar all in a few minutes. It plays wonderfully. I spent more time in line waiting for the guy ahead of me to start a custom rebuild on his distressed guitar - which itself was a fun experience. read more

My electric guitar wasn't sounding as clear and sharp as it used to be, a musician friend recommended this store to get it repaired. So I met Brendan, their Guitar Repair Shop man. In a minute he had the cover off the electronics and saw a few things that had aged like the jack and one of the controls, both had corrosion which is normal to expect. It was fixed the same day, sounds like new, and the bill more than fair. I picked up an extra set of strings from big number of makers, and was on my way. Don't ever try to return anything to this store. They sold me a used jazz piano book for the full $30 price. When I tried to exchange the book I was accused of lending it to a friend who put markings in the book and then trying to take it back. Totally absurd. I felt like a criminal and people shopping in the store stood and stared at me. I have never had such a humiliating experience while trying to just exchange an item that they admitted was their fault. I have shopped at this store since they opened several years ago but I will never return. I know there are other stores who probably have even more variety than this store has and would welcome my patronage. Shame on The Music Store for treating a regular customer in this manner. read more

I went in to look at a Mesa amp, the owner himself helped me and showed me 3 different amps that could suit my needs and was very knowledgeable about them. The repair shop does great setups on guitars. I have had pickups replaced, pickguards, and many different rewires done here - they are as good or better than anyone in town. PLUS, they carry MESA BOOGIE amps! I recently bought a Express 5:25 from them - they gave me a great deal - but the service and attention they provide is unmatched. They ordered a cover for my and called to make sure I recieved it. I can't tell you how much more pleasant and attentive they are at the Music Store - (100% better than the Guitar Center...) I didn't realize that this store was very close to my home. I used to go to "Musician's Discount on Southern and Alma School Road. However, I had went there Saturday and it was closed, so I decided to check out what other stores are around. The customer service was good, and they were also helpful regarding some questions that I had regarding electric guitars. I didn't really compare prices to other places, so I cannot honestly respond in price comparison. I had noticed that they had a lot of novelty- shaped guitars. they also seemed to have a large quantity of replacement strings for guitars. They also appear to have a large selection of sheet music. Took my Gibson LP over to Brendan in the repair section of the shop for a basic set up. That included adjusting the truss rod, setting the action, slotting the nut, setting the intonation, polishing the frets, balancing pickups and cleaning the electronics. All for $62.63. Brendan is very professional and he is very very good at what he does. My guitar now plays absolutely perfect. So big shout out and thanks to him. I've found my local shop for all my guitar maintenance. I would recommend this shop to anyone in the east valley looking to find a shop for maintenance on their guitars. Just a shout out to Brendan, one of the guitar techs, who did a super job handling the return to Fender of my Squier JB with a bad neck and truss rod. After obtaining a new bass under warranty, he expertly setup the new instrument, replacing the original bridge and strings with those from my old bass. I have to give The Music Store five stars for the repair shop alone. Brendan is the greatest. At this point I have brought at least five guitars, two basses, and a banjo in for various operations and every time the result has been outstanding. Even really odd things like inventing a custom banjo tuning or fixing up a 1950s acoustic I found in a barn didn't throw him. I would never take an instrument anywhere else. As for the "store" part of the store, it's my favorite place to buy strings, picks, or sheet music, but I've only occasionally bought an instrument there. It's a small shop so their selection is necessarily kind of limited, but a lot of what they do have is really nice. read more

The only reason I even gave a star was that someone did answer the phone when I called the third time. I placed an order for a book on their website on 8/30, received the confirmation email the same day, received another email the next day saying that "Thank you for shopping with us. We have received your online order. We will send a confirmation with tracking information when your order ships", and never heard from them again. I called on 9/12. After two calls that went to a machine, someone finally answered. He gave me a tracking number, which indicated that the book was sent to USPS on 9/9, TEN days after the order was received! I'm telling everyone I know to avoid this place! read more

Called today April 1, 2016 and ask to have it replaced because is old for the new guitar. They won't replace it. Now under new management there is no deal or curtsy like Good old George. I could purchased the same from amazon at 65% of what they are charging. I thought helping new owner by purchasing from him. I guess not. Go somewhere else. You will be treated like shit. read more

I have been taking lessons on the mandolin for almost 9 months. My instructor, Tracy Kimbrell is the reason I keep coming back for more lessons. He is well versed in string instruments and as a beginner, he was a great teacher, communicator, and cheering section for my progress. I have used the Music Store for getting my instrument repaired and gotten accessories. They were a great help for finding books to continue learning and enjoying my mandolin at home. It definitely depends on what you are looking for. This store was recommended to me by my daughter's soon to be violin teacher. Unfortunately, the staff member that helped me didn't seem to have a clue about violin's. I asked the staff member a number of questions regarding the violin and the proper way of fitting a child for renting one and he pretty much just shrugged his shoulders. Thank goodness, we went to a previous shop whose staff seemed to have a vast knowledge of violin's and measured her for us. Otherwise, we would really have been up the creek at this store. I did end up renting it from them, but only because several other stores seemed to be out of 1/8 size violin's. Upon leaving The Music Store, I noticed a very professional looking violin store right across the street, decided to check them out and was VERY pleased with them. Thank goodness, my contract with The Music store is month-to-month, because I will be returning it in a month and will be renting from the store across the street. I will also be informing my daughter's music teacher that she may not want to recommend The Music Store as a rental source. So disappointing. :-( read more
