The Munch Box offers reasonably priced fast food, a much needed addition to the generally slowpoke Montauk dining scene. Cash only, no frills place on the Plaza with seating for about 25. I had the cheeseburger platter, a perfectly cooked patty topped with american cheese (my guilty pleasure) along with thick fries, slaw and a big pickle spear. Really hit the spot. Went with Chicken Fingers and Popcorn Shrimp. Little disappointed with the portion size of the fingers, but they were above-average. The shrimp were more plentiful and flavorful. He was allowed to go to the bathroom as well as another lady but my sister & I denied by unfriendly staff. Great fried chicken. It took a while from order to be served. Was quite pricey for chicken but then again it is Montauk.

It was really nice and clean, I grabbed Fish and Chips. Pretty small portion but nonetheless the taste was really great. It's a simple place and really old school looking which really fit my style. The customer service was really good and parking is available near by, so you can eat practically anywhere. Such a nice atmosphere and great place to grab a quick bite. read more

Ok place to come for lunch in Montauk. It's very low key and no frills at all. They serve burgers, chicken tenders, fried flounder, shrimp and anything else fried. The real star is their fried chicken which is why you come here. Good, not great but not greasy either. Biggest let down are the buffalo wings. Came dry with no buffalo sauce! Technically not buffalo wings. The staff is friendly and this is probably the least expensive place to eat in town. Give it a shot if you like a good fried chicken. read more

So, I have a confession to make that will make a lot of people who eat meat cringe. I effing HATE fried chicken. Which, apparently, is the only thing they get right here. The salad was overchopped without being a chopped salad. My burger was shaped like a doughnut (I wanted that missing piece, thanks very much and wtf), overcooked to near inedibility (even for people who like a well done burger), lacking flavor, crumbling, thin, disgusting. Fries were crisp and perfectly cooked but lacking flavor. (I had to COVER them with salt.) Biscuits weren't biscuits at all. I see this place has been rated with 4 and 5 stars - why anyone would rate it that high is beyond me. Its a little dive with a very limited menu and way overpriced for what they serve. All of their food is grocery store quality. The meats are straight out of a box of mystery meat patties from the freezer at the supermarket and the breads are right out of the standard grocery store bag of 12 rolls. Me and my wife spent $25 for one drink (no refills) one small fries and a backyard BBQ quality burger and chicken patty sandwich. The other reviews make it sound like it is some kind of restaurant. It's a counter order place and your food comes out on a cafeteria tray. And it's cash only. It was clean and the food wasn't bad or anything, but 25 bucks for this food in this kind of place is a disgusting ripoff. These kinds of places are ruining Montauk as a destination for anyone. Consider this a two star review if you don't like fried food, as you would be poorly catered-to here. If, however, you like simple fried dishes (and I mean bare bones), they have some very tasty fish and chicken to be had. Imagine if you went to a steakhouse, and they made great steaks, but all the sides and alternative entrees were... meh. I get that the simplicity is part of the appeal, but the prices on roughly half the menu are a bit too high for what's offered. They either need to cut prices or kick up the complexity of the dishes. OK, so we're in Montauk, and need a place to eat some lunch. Not being the fancy type, the fam decides to get takeout from a whole in the wall fast food joint, and let me tell ya, it was phenomenal. We got fried chicken, which was just the right amount of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The pieces were large and full of delicious flavor. The frnch fries were standard, nothing special, but nice and crispy as well. The only complain I have is with the burgers, which i didnt eat, but my fiance did and she said it was no good.
