The Mule is decidedly average. The food is definitely good and the pricing isn't unreasonable. It's definitely a refreshing stop when passing through the Hammer. Or if you live there that's cool too. Maybe it's the best taco place in Hamilton? Who can say... we stopped for lunch but it was in a day they were only serving off their brunch menu. It was definitely decent as far as a brunch menu goes but there were less than half the taco offerings on the brunch list. So that was a disappointment. Also the beer was very mediocre (not bad, not particularly good either, tasted pretty generic) and he michelada was probably the worst I'd ever had (definitely not recommended, tasted like ketchup and Tabasco with very very little beer). My boyfriend and I have been trying a lot of modern Mexican restaurants the past few months. A few in Toronto, London and Hamilton. We have tried authentic Mexican and absolutely love it so we are always excited to try some modern to see What type of toppings and sauces are used. We were greeted right as we walked in and the front bar was not busy but they sat us right in between two full tables. We thought that was weird and even commented on how close we felt to everyone. Looked at the menu and were a little surprised at the prices. We aren't cheap but we thought 6.50-7 was a bit much for some tacos (typically $5-5.50 at most places we've been to) we started with the queso fundido which happens to be one of our favourite at most places. So we ordered that and our drinks. 3 minutes later the queso comes out we thought wow that was fast we haven't even gotten our drinks we started to eat. First thought, cheese wiz mixed with Tostitos cheese sauce. Second thought, these chips are hard and stale!! I see my boyfriends face and it says it all! He's like wtf is this cheese wiz? I'm like right??!? Okay I'm not being picky. Almost done the weird tasting cheese since we were both so hungry. Where are our drinks? at least 15 minutes has gone by the waitress has been around to the tables next to us so we ask about our drinks she says yup they're coming up she turns around and gets them. I think she had forgotten.Tacos come out 1 minute later. Fish taco falling all apart because the tortilla wasn't warm enough fish tasted burnt. Chicken had a strange tasting sauce. Cease and desist just gross Taco Bell saggy meat was on it and lamb one was okay but same thing with the tortilla. There was not one we liked. App, 4 tacos, 2 beers and a ice tea later $52. We left hungry and super disappointed feeling like damn we should have just cooked at home moments. Probably never going back. read more

I'm always looking for Mexican restaurants so when I heard Hamilton had a few that opened up, I had to check them out. I wasn't totally as impressed with the Mule as I was with Mezcal. The food is mediocre and the atmosphere is loud. The restaurant decor is also lacklustre. We tried the fish and achiote chicken tacos and the Baja chicken wings. I will give it another shot in the new year. And try a few more items on the menu. read more

Drinks and delicious tacos. Limited brunch menu it seemed. A bit confusing for us since we were there late in the afternoon but I think that's the idea - sort of the place you would go the next day after partying late but still a nice vibe and one you could accompany your folks to =). We were there on one of the coldest days this winter but the place was freezing inside and the seats were metal chairs so maybe that didn't help. Top 2 best tacos in Ontario. Despite of the menu staying pretty much the same, I'm glad it does because their food is phenomenal, however, pricier and pricier. Great service but it's gotten busier and busier over the weekend and thus more difficult to get in and they only implement a waiting list, not being able to book a table. Don't let the appearance of the simple menu deter you! The drinks menu is twice as big as the food menu, and the food menu is not very descriptive at all, but not to worry because the food is amazing. We ended up trying (between 4 of us) one of every taco offered on the menu. All of them very very tasty especially the beet and carrot taco - I know right who would have thought! The guacamole and the queso dips were delicious as well. We were there for lunch so didn't pay much attention to the drinks but there appeared to be some interesting choices. The restaurant was full by 12:30 (lunch) on a Wednesday, so get there early. The restaurant was very clean and had a laid back vibe. Pros: Great space - quite a bit bigger than Mezcal, the other hip taco joint in the area. Great service - management and staff are great, and go out of their way to help you. Great atmosphere - from the art on the walls, to the chairs and pews, to the Motown tunes (at least during my visit), you'll enjoy your time at the mule. Great food - The pork eggs Benedict was stellar, tacos were great according to my other half, and the food served to those around us looked great as well. Great drinks - some Mule originals, and some old faves, both varieties will serve you well. Cons: King William - It's no one's fave street to drive on. Can be congested, and the most nearby parking lot is often full. Definitely check this place out, you won't regret it. read more

Came in tonight, asked for a table for 6. We were willing to wait but were told the wait would be too long. We opted for a table for 3 instead and the other 3 guests would sit at another table but when we were seated there was an empty table next to ours. The employee that said is said that she doesn't like when tables are put together, and VERY quickly sat the next people in the door at the table next to ours so that the remaining members of our party could not sit with us. Mule is bigger than a normal bar, which makes it really practical for weekends when the place is flooded by people. The wait is a bit long on weekends, but I would say it's worth it. Greats tacos and selection of bourbon and tequila. read more

3 stars cause 3 out of 5 tacos were amazing. Brussel sprout, halloumi and fish were outstanding. Beef curry and cauliflower were disappointing. The curry taco had way too many flavors going on. I was really excited to try this place out, and I was so disappointed. It took about an hour to get a table, the music was too loud for a dinner date. If there was a dance floor it would have been ok, but for dinner the music was too loud and the movie playing in the background was irrelevant to the music. Plus we were asked to move because of the dj. Making it even louder than before. The atmosphere was cool but it seemed much more of a club scene than a restaurant. The food was also disappointing. Was really excited for the salmon ceviche and although it was really good $9 for 7 pieces of spicy salmon is too pricey. My boyfriend had the vegetarian options and he got the sweet potato taco that had two pieces of sweet potato. We had a few tacos and the one that was most filling and had the most filling was the taco bell....the cheapest one on the menu. It would have been worth it if the tacos had more filling. Also we got a pitcher of margarita and the margarita was watered down and had ice cubes instead of crushed ice. Seemed like a huge hipster joint. It honestly was a terrible experience, maybe they were off their game that night but I would not go again and would not recommend. read more

Ambiance and menu was trendy, the food was a bit pricey for the serving. ***What really bothered me was the pork rinds that the put on top of the ceviche and the chicken taco. A disclosure of pork being on a dish is always necessary. Maybe most wouldn't find this absolutely repulsive but I normally feel safe that eating ceviche with raw salmon would not have pork on the dish. Also, ceviche is not traditionally served raw. The menu should depict the preparation to at least give notice for cooked or raw! Tacos were just ok, there was a lot of sauce and stuff on them. Today I visited for brunch and got to try their special of the day which was fried chicken eggs Benny on corn bread. Even better it was gluten free. I went here last night with my sister. The whole experience from start to finish was A1. Atmosphere- It is a beautiful space boasting plenty of textures. From the exposed brick, the wooden tables with steel chair ( not chairs to linger in if comfort means anything to you) , the many paintings of colourful skulls, to the chandeliers on the ceiling it makes this restaurant a pleasure to enter it. Food- We started with the speical lamb ribs topped cilantro, sour cream, green onions, and sunflower seeds- Wow! A great way to start the meal off. The symphony of flavours this group ( Rapscallion, Alex, Black Sheep, etc) is known for creating was in this dish loud and clear. From there we went on to try the following: 1) duck empanada- The duck was mixed with flavours and perfectly fried served with again a mixture of flavours that dance in your mouth. We then went on to share some tacos-1) fish- These are lightly breaded and my sister loved it so much she had to order one just for herself. 2) chicken- spicy but the toppings make the whole dish fantastic. The taco shells are home made soft and so easy not to be messy ( imagine that) 3) I forget the name of the 3rd taco but it is a Mediterranean cheese cubed and fried - This was not my favourite but it was good. For dessert we tried the 2 things offered 4) The chocolate de luce and lemon curd with rice crispy square fingers. Both of them come in Mason jars. both of them are out of this world good. The chocolate reminds me of my mothers home made chocolate pudding when we were growing up but their's is smoother. the lemon curd reminds me of the lemon curd jars I would make for my Mother in Law for Christmas but it is thinner so dipping the fingers is a great Idea. ( I would have liked a few more fingers) I know the amount of butter, sugar, and lemons it takes to make a good lemon curd and this one is a standout. One thing to note is that they now offer tea ( nt a great choice but it is offered) I am glad because the last time I was in I was told Mexican's dont drink tea so that was why they werent serving it. Service- We were greeted by a fantastic server John. He was very pleasant, personable and made us feel comfortable ( despite the chairs we were sitting on) He knew the menu inside and out and gave great advice about it. There were also many other servers either bringing the food or taking empty plates away with such efficiency. One thing to note that I love is the bottle of water on the table ( i love it when a restaurant offers this) was replaced when John noticed it was empty. Thanks for the wonderful experience. AWFUL service. As a 7 person group they refused to seat us in an EMPTY restaurant. Both waiters we spoke to made excuses as to why we could not be seated in one group of 4 and one group of 3 either. Apparently they didn't want to make money. read more

I would normally order Fish, Pork belly and Beef curry tacos when i get takeout or dine in with The Mule. Their fish taco is my favourite, the crispy bettered fish combine with fresh veggies is just great , pork belly is a bit chewy and sour but good overall, beef curry was meh but has it unique tastes. a little bit pricey for a slow service 3 out of 5stars ( I give 4 because they're open until late night and saved me from starving many times lol) read more

We went for my boyfriends birthday. We had previously called and they advised we weren't able to book an appointment unless we booked the entire back room and guaranteed to spend $2500. So we went earlier and friends came throughout the night. The manager wasn't very pleasant and was somewhat rude to us. I asked the bartender if the one drink with the tequila and grapefruit was very strong. He said it wasn't so I ordered it. It was absolutely too strong. He didn't ask if it was alright or anything as I sat in front of him at the bar with it sitting there untouched. After 30 minutes I asked him if he could put it in a tall glass with sprite as it was too strong. He did so and it was still so awful. He did nothing. I was very dissatisfied. I can't say enough good stuff about the mule! The atmosphere was fun, it wasn't too crowded, the music was awesome (think 90s rap & r&b) and the food...well let me tell you. My fiancé and I each had three tacos, and they were huge! We had the Taco Bell, chicken x 2, beef, haloumi, and pork. They were all equally as good as the one before! I honestly want to go back and try all the other neat kinda like sweet potato and Brussel sprout! I wish I could have eaten more! We also had the guacamole which was topped with a whole bunch of good stuff, it was so good. We shared a pitcher of Sangria, and it was actually alcoholic (unlike other restaurants where it's all juice)...very tasty. The Mule has been on my list for awhile, and I'm glad I finally checked it out. The tacos are generously filled and are the best in the area. I recommend the fish tacos (they're quite good), but the beef barbacoa was too dry for my liking (but had a nice kick). My friend tried the halloumi and brussels sprout options and liked them too. Tasty. Unsuspectingly gluten free, the entire kitchen is gf, which is awesome. The fish taco is good and the sweet potato taco is a delicious surprise. Great tortillas, good selection of fillings. Almost every filling is fried, which made me ponder, is this where the older meat from all his other restaurants come to be "breaded" and fried to extend their shelf life? If so it's genius but it would be great if there were healthier and grilled options. The tortilla chips are average and small portion. The empanada is ok. We went there last Saturday, 7 people and unfortunately it was disappointing, the drinks are expensive, order margaritas, they came in a regular high ball glasses and tasted like they use cheap liquor, and at $11.50 per drink, presentation would have been nice. We ordered a variety of tacos and app's, and again unfortunately, their menu offers little selection, and the tacos are basic nothing to exciting. Overall, we were all disappointed and had to pay 16.00 to find parking. Oh and it seemed like their air conditioning was working properly it was so hot in there. Also I was actually thinking I wanted to go to a drive thru on the way home! Sorry guys but you need to add a few more items to menu, and for what we got receiving a bill over 70.00 for 2 drinks and a few tacos very disappointing!! read more
