I had such a great time at The Mud Mill! The space is colorful, cozy, and full of creative energy. The staff were super kind, patient, and helpful. They made the whole process easy and fun. I loved being able to just relax, paint, and bring something personal to life. My only suggestion would be the music. We were there for about two hours, and it was all really slow, kind of depressing country music the whole time. It made it hard to stay in that creative, happy mood. I think a more upbeat or positive playlist would make the whole experience even better, especially for families and groups painting together. My family of 4 and I walked in a Saturday and had a great experience at the mud mill! We came specifically to make some gifts for Father's Day. Although we did not have a reservation they were still able to get us in to a table in the back. Our family ranges from age 9-41 and we all enjoyed this experience! My daughter elected to paint two mugs, my son painted a car while my partner decided to paint a bank for our unborn baby. I worked on a BBQ tray. We spent about an hour painting. The items were ready for us to pick up about a week later. We were all elated at how great everything turned out. The only reason that I could not give 5 stars is because we did not get much support or direction as first timers. There were some instructions around however, we would like to have had more information about how many coats etc and how to ensure that small areas of the ceramics got painted. I've been putting off this review for a long time, as I do not like writing negative reviews and prefer to focus on my positive experiences. However, it has been many months and I doubt this issue will be resolved at this point. In October, I came to the mud mill with my mom and my grandma to paint some Halloween items together. Despite clearly labeling my item, when I came to pick it up a week later, it had been given away to someone different. The mud mill staff made no effort to try to get this sentimental piece back for me; my grandma is disabled and outings with her are few and far in between. My partner and I both spoke with them about the sentimentality of this piece and wanting to make it right and all they offered were empty promises. Ultimately I never got the pottery, any refund or compensation for the amount I paid (without receiving my item), or any voucher/gift certificate given in its place. They had agreed to send one via email, but this never happened. As someone who has come here a couple times per year since my childhood, this whole thing was very disappointing to me. At this point I don't plan to go back, as I found their lack of accountability and follow-up on customer service frustrating. read more

The people here are kind and are extremely patient and welcoming. Some tips that I have are... - Make a reservation before coming in! They're a small space with limited amounts of tables, so if you walk-in, you may not always be guaranteed a spot, and it can be a waste of time for you. - If you are coming in for the first time, expect to bring more money than the guest fee of $6 or $8. Yes, you will be paying for that guest fee as it covers the painting and supplies, but you will also be paying for the thing you choose to paint (there are many beautiful options to choose from that cost between $14-$17 as much as I've seen). So bring enough money for the guest fee(s) and the cost of the figure, cup, etc. you may be painting. They accept cash and card payments! (And other electronic payments, too, I believe) read more

I was in Friday with Residents from a community I work at and had talked to the lady about bringing my daughter in on Sunday to paint with her for a Mother Daughter Day. We walk in on Sunday and pick out our pottery to paint and ask where to sit and was informed we cannot paint because they are way to busy and aren't able to take walk ins. Was never informed that we needed a reservation or instructed it would be a great idea. One of the girls was trying to make accommodations for my daughter and I so we could paint and the other girl told her no. Needless to say was extremely disappointing that we weren't able to paint and was turned away. Not a bad place to go on a date with a loved one. I decided to take my woman here on a Tuesday morning. We had passed this place a few months ago and decided to finally give it a try. So there's an initial payment of $8 which they call "studio fees" you know to use their brushes and paints. Then you get to choose what it is you feel like painting. They explain everything to you before you sit down, how many layers of paints gets you the darkest result etc. A real good place to bring your children for quality time. Nothing better than art to awaken that inner creativity. Will definitely be coming back. read more

We had my daughter's 3rd birthday party here for about 6 kids. The staff was really nice and provided plates, balloons, napkins, and everything you need for painting the glazes on the ceramic pieces. They have 2 different packages for parties depending on what ceramic pieces you want your guests to choose from, and they have quite a selection, but not too overwhelming that you can't choose. The staff was friendly and provided help with the pizza and cupcakes and cleanup. We will definitely be back for another party here! It was about 14 dollars I think per person, but they take care of everything, except the candles, but my fault for forgetting, and the guests have a take home(a week later) to remember the party by. Did my daughter's birthday there on November 15th 2019 and the staff was phenomenal. They had everything set up even though they misspelled my daughter's name they fixed it immediately and made sure the birthday was a success. They kept the girls on track of their projects served the pizza and the cake and make sure that everyone was enjoying the party. The fact that they did such a great job just gave me even more incentive to leave them pizza cake and soda to enjoy. Our first visit here was okay. There are many products to choose from but the prices are high enough that the studio fee should not be an additional charge. We were not assisted with painting techniques so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I wish we would have been shown or given some tips. The service was not what I would have hoped for. I felt like I was burdening them when I needed paint. A drop the size of a quarter just wasn't going cover my piece. NEVER Going back! They certainly don't care for repeat business!! My husband booked appointments for my mother and me for their Mother's Day special. A nice flower pot w/plate and food is provided. He was sure to ask if this would be good with an infant. They said yes! I get a phone call the night before requiring payment up front in order to keep the reservation. The next day we arrive with my 10 month old in hand. There were 3 people on staff including the owner. We were not greeted and had to approach staff for help. My mother is rather larger lady and they weren't very accommodating with their seating; who crams 5 tables in a small corner. It wasn't even that busy. They told us to clean the pottery and pick our colors. They expect you to get your own cleaning and painting supplies. Staff was not helpful in color selection or painting techniques; although we noticed those of a lighter complexions received more attentive service. After an hour or so the owner finally placed out the food for their event. It consisted of store bought cookies and homemade sandwiches and salad. Three hours and a phone call to the husband later we're done. I was told I would be called when they were ready, usually 10 days. I never received any call and 3 weeks later I walk-in to pick-up. My pot didn't turn out very well due to poor color selection. My mom's came out cute with the exception of some smudged letters. When I mentioned that to the staff I was told that someone called and wrote that they left a message. "Why would she write that if she didn't call you?" I will never return again! I've been here numerous times and always have a good time. It's a place where you pick out your unpainted bisque pottery, paint it, they fire it for you, and then you pick it up in 1-2 weeks (usually 7-10 days). I love painting pottery so I was excited to see this place in my home town. Every time I go in I'm greeted and encouraged to pick out some pottery. They have a decent selection of plates, glasses, banks (piggy, action hero's, etc), and ceramic animals of all sizes. I prefer to come during the holiday season when they have their fall pumpkins out or at Christmas when they have ornaments you can paint. I now have a pumpkin collection that I pull out every fall, and I'm planning on painting more pumpkins this year too! The painting is easy and they have lots of colors to choose from. You can make the color as light or as dark as you'd like depending on how many layers you put on it. They have a wide variety of paint brushes to pick from too from large and flat to tiny and skinny for detail work. Also, what I love is they have squeeze bottles of the colors that comes out in an extremely fine line. It's great for detail work or writing letters or names. Because the color of your pottery changes once it's fired, it's always fun to pick up and see the finished product! I've never had any problems here with bad customer service, and I've gone at least 7 times over the last 3 years. On Friday nights they have extended hours (I believe until 9pm), so you can get dinner downtown and then walk over and paint. They also do a "Ladies Night" once a month, where you sign up, they feed you while you paint (its catered from a local restaurant) and you can bring your own drinks, such as wine. Of course it's adults only on that night. I've attended it once and it was really fun! Pricing: You pay a "studio fee" which is standard for an adult or child. That covers the cost of your paint, supplies, and firing your piece. They you pay for the piece of pottery that you want. All pieces are priced and there are pieces in all price ranges. The only downside is that I've been to other places similar to this one and they seem to have a much bigger selection for adults then the mudd mill. That's why I find it's most fun to go around holidays where special pottery comes out. read more
