LOL the child has spoken! 5 stars it is! There are so many camps to chose from in the East Bay but what we have been loving about Aran's Art Camp is the intimate group size: there's no more than 10 kids per art camp and we've lucked out with an even smaller group during our time here. The camp is taught by a mix of Aran herself and her staff and they've been nothing but wonderful. My kiddo comes home from art camp every day bursting at the seams about everything he's worked on and learned (giving me safety tips about glass fusing and teaching me what a pinch pot is!) and he looks forward to going back each day. Each week is a different theme so if you wanted to sign up for multiple sessions, your child will definitely be working on something different each time. While the hours are 10-2, they offer before and after care for an additional fee which basically turns this into an all day camp if you were to maximize on the 9-3 aspect of it. There's a lot of half day camps out there so if you use their before and after camp, you get a good chunk of the day covered! Lastly, they go to the park every day after lunch to let them move around and get some sunshine and Fridays is pizza day! My kid said he would love to come back to art camp again next summer.

They have a small selection of snacks and drinks for purchase, but still a nice option. It's a clean environment and the young staff are very friendly. Music is often playing in the background while you concentrate on your painting. My only recommendation for improvement is to provide a more sturdy plate or tray for the paint. Currently customers just squirt the paint on a card stock paper (similar to the size of a large index card) and are supposed to take that back to the table for painting pottery. It would feel much more secure and sturdy to carry with an actual tray or paper plate for the paint. I also felt like the paint was dripping off the edges of the paper since there was no lip and paint colors kept merging together since the paper index card wasn't laying flat. They also could have offered a few more paint color options. All in all, it was a great experience and so nice to have a crafty activity close to home. Pottery is usually ready for pick up within 1 week. Candles are ready to be taken home same-day.

On a Friday I called ahead to check and see if there were any openings and was pleasantly surprised that they did! Color Me Mine Sunnyvale has a vast selection of different pieces that you can make! I chose to paint my dog and my girlfriend chose to do a vase! My recommendation would be if you're new to painting, choose something with a shape i.e. a dog, lucky cat, or garden gnome. This makes it easier and takes the stress away of creating something completely original. If you're looking to be more creative and have more time and experience, try creating something original on a simple solid piece such as a plate, mug, jewelry box, etc. Paint options here are awesome! There is a stone tablet that shows how all the colors will appear after glazing as well! The turnaround time is quite short only 1 week. (We're still waiting for ours lol) My one gripe is that the brushes here are incredibly worn out. It's hard to get good details when the brushes aren't good quality. I picked an item that was around 20 bucks and it was actually pretty fun. The paint they use dries fast so its easy to use multiple coats. I was able of finish a small project in 20 minutes or so. The staff stayed a bit late to help us finish and we didn't feel rushed. We were able to bring home the second not yet finished item for next time. There is a nomimal fee if you dont finish and need to come back later. Otherwise they fire up your project and you caome back in a week to retrieve it. Looking around I kept thinking how cute it would be to bring my kids or girl friends back here and would love to work on another project. The prices for the actual items were a better price than I anticipated as well!

I recommend this place to all my friends with kids and the main reason why I love Oam Studios is because they teach the fundamentals and explain the basics (shading, pencil pressure, anatomy, symmetry, etc) to children instead of making them replicate an art by following step by step instructions. Students get to pick their own project and the teacher works with them individually even though it's a group class.
