Parked ourselves at the bar this place was very cosy, open fire to the end of the room made this place ubber cosy. There was plenty of locals here, place had a really good atmosphere. I ordered a tea and it was hilarious, barman turned around and flick the kettle on... Yep, no fancy gimmick hot water machine it was a just kettle and served up in a big standard ole irish cup. Old school, loved it! There was great banter going on amongst folk, the barman also doubled up as a bookie so that had folk very lively altogether. From the city, use to paying high prices so it's great when ye get out into the country, €4 for pint of Guinness and cup of tea was like €1 My husband got talking to an old local man who was super friendly, he recognised us as not being from around the area which was nice of him to say hello :-)

The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. My "début" in Newbridge took place in Johnson's pub on the main street just before the bridge. I stepped into a buzzing, good-humoured, easy-going, good old fashioned Irish watering-hole. The pub was full but not resembling the sardine tins that are the pubs of Naas on a weekend. Everyone seemed in good form and as soon as you were introduced, they were offering to buy you drinks. All ages and types mingled and danced to the fantastic live band. Rubber and friends play in Johnson's every Friday night. They're a jam band consisting of Paul Keogh (Rubber), from the excellent music group King Modo, and a selection of his mates. They played lively Irish songs along with their take on American pop and r&b tunes, each wielding a guitar. Paul's voice on his version of 'Golddigger' is something else! Every so often, someone from the crowd would join the band for a couple of songs as people clapped, danced or swayed on their stools, all sporting big smiles. An Australian friend asked me, "What's the equivalent of Johnson's in Naas?" I didn't have to think long before answering, "There is none." Definitely my new local!
