I'm downgrading my previous review as the food just isn't as good as it was. Extremely dry burgers. Average chips. The pate was outstanding and the dessert was just as dry as the burgers. My sister had pasta, that was great. The service is excellent. read more

We were driving from Dublin to Kinsale and wanted to stop for lunch. Had issues with my phone so no access to TripAdvisor or Yelp so we just chanced it. Got off the motorway in Kildare and Harte looked good so we picked it, very happy we did. I had the steak on a stone. One of the best steaks I've had in the UK or Ireland. I guess cooking on a stone is the popular thing right now in Ireland but it is only the second time I've tried it. They served me an 8 oz sirloin on a very hot stone, accompanies with chips, a roasted tomato and a couple of onion rings. The steak is barely cooked and you let it cook on the stone while you are eating. What made it good here is that it was a very high quality sirloin, no grizzle or fat at all. I do wish they had given me a separate plate, because once I had the optimal temperature I felt rushed to finish eating so I would not over cook the steak. The good thing is, you can make it very rare. Chips were chips, good but not incredible. The onion rings, though, were incredible. Service was friendly but it did take a while to keep our tap water refilled. Overall, very good. read more

We had short notice to find a restaurant to serve as our final meal in Ireland, as well as being able to meet the gluten-free needs of two of our companions. We were very positively surprised by the number of choices available and the quality of our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the steak (on a stone). What a great treat, cooking the steak to our own preferred level on a hot stone at the table. And the sea trout, pea and bacon risotto... wow! Harte's is deserving of all the positive praise one can give and we will make this a stop on our next visit. read more

Visiting from California, which has amazing food, but absolutely impressed with the food and friendly service. We came on Friday night without reservations (our mistake) but were able to get served at the bar. My wife had the lamb shoulder and I had the flank of beef and both were perfectly cooked! read more

The food was flavorful and I loved the ambiance. Seems like the staff is overworked perhaps as the soup was cool as was the meat.

Slow Roast Irish Pork Belly with Colcannon Mash and Stewed Bramley Apple and Braised Red Cabbage. Crazy sounding dish but it was incredibly delicous! The pork belly was uber-tender and flavorful. We also had the Duck Spring Rolls, Ballymaloe and Spicy Cajun Sandwiches. Everything was excellent! Our only complaint was the very long wait for food and even longer wait for service. There just didn't seem to be enough servers for the lunch crowd. read more

Had an excellent meal here with a group of eight, including kids. The staff were very friendly, accommodating with the kids and all round good at their job. The "steak on a stone" was excellent, served with fries, perfect onion rings, and a terrific pepper sauce. The rest of the menu looked good too. Great kids' selections - not just nuggets & chips. My five year old loved his fish so much he made all of us taste it - and he was right. Some items on the kids menu are free before 6pm. The dessert platter didn't disappoint and maintained the high standard of the meal. Bonus points to our server for quietly asking the adults if it was ok to offer dessert to the kids. First time here on a Saturday night for a celebration dinner with a group of about 12. We started with Hendricks and tonic (with cucumber, natch, and pepper). The pub area is a typical Irish pub, in a good way. Packed to the gills and noisy with very efficient bar service. Would go there just for that. The dining area, by contrast, although equally busy, was quieter and comfortable. For starter I had an excellent crab tian served with, it must be said, a miserable portion of toasted bread but I forgave them because the crab was superb. Main course for me was a fillet steak served pretty much raw on a roasting stone so it could be cooked exactly to taste which is exactly what I did. Again, superb. Accompanied by a very generous serving of fries, it was just perfect. The wine and the conversation flowed freely so we were eventually poured into taxis as the witching hour approached. I wouldn't normally be in this part of the country and this place is a great find so I may just make the journey again just to savour another fine fillet. read more

Harte's is a great example of how wonderful Irish food can be. First bonus: they serve food in the bar as a great overflow option when there's a wait for a table. This was a great relief to our tired feet and grumbling bellies (typical tourists, we had waited until we were starving to look for lunch!) The other patrons at the bar kindly moved so that the four of us could sit in an L shape, which was just as nice as a table and maybe even better because we could see the action. Second bonus: they carried two or three microbrews in addition to the standard Irish trio of Smithwick's, Carlsberg and Guinness (yes, the Guinness in Ireland is really amazing, but after 10 days of it you start to wonder what else might be out there. Turns out: quite a bit!) Our food was also excellent. Our friends ordered a bacon cheeseburger (Irish beef: yes) and a quinoa salad, and both raved. My husband and I both got sandwiches: his was corned beef with a poached egg and mine was ham, cheddar and black pudding. We had intended to swap halfway through, but we got lost in the deliciousness and ended up finishing our own before we remembered! Mine was excellent, especially the crispy bits of black pudding that contrasted so beautifully with the tender ham and melting cheddar. Both came with rocket (arugula) which was a nice choice for all those fillings, and the sandwiches were open-faced on that soft, grainy brown bread that Irish dreams are made of. All the side options were terrific -- creamy vegetable soup, melt-in-your-mouth chips, crisp salad with light dressing. Every ingredient was fresh and high-quality, proof that Irish food is not necessarily highly processed. Service was slow and intermittent, which is the reason I can't give five stars; this seems to be par for the course in Ireland, but we did have one or two excellent servers while there, so I know it's possible. The gentleman tending bar was courteous, and since we were on vacation, we just didn't let it bother us. We would definitely return if we were in the area again. Slainte! read more

I got an elderflower tonic with hendricks gin ( best decision of my life thus far thanks to him. was utterly delightful ) . Never got his name. Blonde guy and pretty funny. Probably the best place to eat in Kildare! This hidden gem beats even the 5* hotels in the area! Incredible food & service! The owner of this bar & grill knows that quality means quantity! Lovely intimate Gastro Pub. I eat here regularly and have to say its just amazing to add to an excellent food menu they blew me away with their recent new 'Craft Beer Menu' i was like a kid in a sweet shop trying out the wonderful array of Irish Brews. The 'Trouble Brewing' stout being my favorite. Staff are polite and knowledgeable, premises spotless and a cosy athmosphere . Just a great venue all round read more

Simply put, hartes burger is the best burger Iv ever had - I couldn't believe how good it was. From the soft flour bap to the perfectly cooked quality beef, I can literally not fault anything. The restaurant itself looks fancier than what it's prices reflect. Wine glasses, large cold glass water bottles served straight away, this place was nothing short of 5 stars. I will defiantly be back again when passing. I honestly recommend anyone looking for a place to eat in Kildare town to try this place. read more
