My favourite pub in Maynooth. Located on the main street it's looks better on the inside than the outside. Always has a good atmosphere with a nice mix of students to the obligatory old men at the bar. Food is simple pub grub at it's best and budget friendly too with a lot of meals around the tenner mark. If you fancy splashing out the steaks are supposed to be well worth it.

Delicious app of fried mushrooms and garlic dressing!

Hmm this is a toughie to mark…read more On the one hand, I can't stand these types of places. On the other hand, as 'these places' go, it's probably one of the best! Right let's go for the objective marking. ("Marking"?! Do I think I'm a teacher or something?!) - It does what it says on the tin. It's a general, all ages late bar that's there for havin the craic. Pretentiousness can be left firmly at the door - When you are going in for a full night of popular music, you may as well hear it from a live band, versus an awful DJ (who does come on after the live band btw..) - As mentioned above - it's all ages. If you're a cougar on the prowl, there's plenty of pray here for ya, but if you're wanting to celebrate a 40th birthday, or equally a 21st, there's room for everyone in the Roost! - Drinks aren't too expensive, and there's no cover charge - Bouncers are friendly and there's rarely trouble here besides drunken ladies falling down the stairs (of which there are many - watch out if you're debuting your new 5 inchers in here, ladies!) - It doubles up as a nice quiet and relatively cosy pub during the day. So there ye have it. If you're going, embrace it, and you'll have a grand old time. If you've got a hankering for some black rimmed glasses, skinny jeans and hipstagramation, this is probably not your spot.

We were travelling on the nearby M4 and randomly visited this pub in a college town very hungry for a late lunch. The environment was nice with candles and a cozy feel but our 'strict schoolteacher' waitress left a lot to be desired in the attitude category. Poor students probably mean crappy tips and we got the tail end of a bad lunch rush. No matter, we ordered the "Hot stuffed roast beef sandwich with vegetable soup or fries" - 7 euro. I don't exactly know what was presented 20 minutes later, but here's a description. The soup was a sallow opaque gruel more like a gritty yellow/puce bisque but without quality or flavor, a bit like wallpaper glue in texture. No vegetables I could see survived...none. Perhaps it wasn't vegetable soup in hindsight, but it was warm, neutral and nontoxic so I had three spoonfuls before I quit it - my girl didn't make it that far. She was distracted by the entree which consisted of two mushy cold toast slices with a firm grey organic mass in the center that I took to be meat of some sort. Tough, completely without flavor and overcooked my post mortem was this was a boiled bovine something at one time and then maybe it was microwaved to withdraw any remaining taste, I don't know. It was laughably inedible and dissecting the sandwich we later discovered some soggy little sponge cubes that probably were the 'stuffing', though we couldn't be sure, as by this time they had attached themselves to the bread to make a small henge around the meat sacrifice. My lady finished her pint and we laughed off the experience. After a while gave up on our waitress again who perhaps was hiding out of shame and eventually threw a 20 euro on the table and left. I'm sure this is a great place most of the time and we just had a rare lousy experience.

The staff and the crowd of regulars at this charming pub are among the most welcoming we have experienced in all of Ireland! They were as excited to tell us about their country and as they were to ask about ours! They were funny and friendly and the highlight of our day. Now that takes some beating. McEvoys is one of those places that is just made for one of those ultra-rare-not-a-cloud-in-the-sky days. Set right on the canal just outside of Celbridge is this gorgeous pub. Full of walkers who have come along the canal on a stroll with their dogs plus lots of locals and even some lucky houseboat owners. The mood is always friendly and jovial, with an atmosphere that's second to none. Here you will find: - A pre-pint walk along the canal - A load of benches with a view of the boats and the water - A super cosy and comfy bar inside if it gets a tad chilly in the evening (you know it will!) - A great pint of the black stuff - A dog friendly bar To be honest, whether it's raining or shining, I'd still recommend this spot. Gwan the outskirts!

I cannot believe how large this pub is inside! We stopped by after seeing it on a "Traditional Pubs…read moreof Ireland" poster, and because my grandfather's name was James Griffin. The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Looks like they get large crowds during the evenings, and even offer lots of live music and DJs. The bartender was friendly.

So when you pass thru Trim to see the Castle, call in to this gorgeous pub. When you walk in, it is old school classic pub with beautiful woodwork and bar. From there, you can go in the cozy fireplace room that feels and looks great and leads to another cozy area to meet and be with friends. If you like patios, you're at the right place! Step out back and find a covered & climate controlled patio that is huge! They have a large smoking patio area (you can't smoke inside in Ireland either). Thru the patio, you can see a big events room that you can host a reception, party, meeting, whatever. It's been a few months since my last visit, but I've heard they have a new beer garden too! Oh yes, the drinks...the Guinness is perfect. You can get almost any tasty beverage here from a nice bartender. The owner is hands-on and always working to keep this place top notch.
