Just home from having dinner here with my other half…read more The menu here is HUGE. I can sometimes find it hard to find something on a menu that I like however the menu was that vast I couldn't decide between a number of dishes. I opted for the vol au vents with chicken, bacon and mushrooms in a white wine sauce which also came with a side of chips. The other half order the BLT and chessey bacon chips. We also ordered a side of battered onion rings. We could have done without the sides as neither of us finished our meals as the portions were so big. My other half also ordered warm apple pie with ice cream for dessert (I don't know how but he managed to finish every bit). All this plus a coke and one pint cost less than €40. So reasonable but yet the food was soo good! The layout is nice as they have some little cubby areas to sit away from people watching the big screans. All the staff were soo friendly, we had a laugh and a joke with them! There is parking in the back of the pub however it only facilates a small number of cars and you need to ask for a permit to pop in your window. Overall really impressed and looking forward to going back.

I work in Leixlip from time to time and when I am there and looking for a good carvery lunch, Murphys is the best spot in town. The staff is always attentive and the food is always good. The one thing I think that separates Murphys from other carverys is the fact they always have four or more types of meat to choose from. You are not limited to pork loin, roast beef, or whatever a normal carvery is having that day. They always offer roast beef, pork loin, and turkey crown everyday, so you can always be sure to have something you haven't had already that week. They are also right down the road from HP and Intel, so for those of us who work in Leixlip or find themselves on-site there its pretty handy sure.

The food is your average pub grub (burgers, steak, curries) but all the dishes were cooked very well. I found the menu a little limited (4 mains and a special) but we arrived at 4.45 so I'm guessing we got the lunch menu. By 6pm the place was heaving and a queue had formed for the tables so get there early at weekends if you don't fancy a wait at the bar. Oh and if you have forgotten to make the trip to Tesco for the wife don't panic, you can also buy Kerrygold, Cornflakes and Wellies behind the bar.

I haven't been here in years, and they've done a really great job with the facelift of this place…read more They seem to be placing a lot more emphasis on food, and general cosiness which is A-ok with me. The only thing was that the food just wasn't quite good ENOUGH, and the place just wasn't quite cosy ENOUGH. Like it was all PRETTY good. But not amazing. Re. cosiness - we were sitting right next to a big open fire that wasn't lit and it was a really freezing day. Just get her lit lads!!! Re. the food. It was all good, but not sensational. We had chicken wings which had hardly any sauce on them. Sauce that up!!! The brownies were really doughy and not great - none of us finished them. The chowder was delish though as was the brown bread. I think if they just put a little bit of extra thought into the whole situation, this could be a five star-er. But for now, I'm gonna leave it at 3.5

Wished she hadn't said "Have a nice day" though. When Euros say that I always think they are taking the piss. I'd eat here again .... Excellent pub grub style food.

"The Birthplace of Guinness". Well ye can't get better than that!…read more The Village Inn is on the site of the old brewery in which Arthur Guinness brewed his first beer way back in 1709. With a pedigree like this, you would expect to find the finest pint of Guinness in the land within those four walls. And you wouldn't be let down. Creamy consistency. Perfect pour. Careful consideration of the Black Stuff. Beyond the Guinness, the management of this watering hole take a commendable interest in keeping things lively and the regulars (and not-so-regulars!) stimulated and happy to be there. From drinks promotions to a trad night on a Thursday, various bands on a Sunday (excellent Sunday Sesh to be had here folks, for those inclined), to poker nights, six screens for watching sport in the lounge, and a function room with private drinks taps on each table. Bar staff are really friendly here too - they've all been there for ages so are well versed on the lay of the land. The lounge serves breakfast from 10am to 12 noon, carvery lunch is also available daily and bar food is served throughout the day. Above all, the pub has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There is a lounge and a bar, with a perfect little snug right next to the bar if you can get down there in time and beat the locals. If you ARE in the bar, make sure you also save all your receipts, because every Sunday, each receipt is put in a draw to win a pot of money to go towards funding those ever-so-tasty beverages (minimum of €500 each week!!!!)

The drink is always good and the food is pretty good too. Upstairs there is a restaurant where you can sit and look out over the river Liffey. They do very good steaks but tend to overdo the amount of onions. The only downside to the Abbey Lodge is the management, extremely unfriendly and non communicative even to regulars. They do a fairly good trade but i feel they could increase they customer numbers considerably if they made even a modest effort at being a bit more welcoming and appreciative to their existing clientele.

Truth be told as well, it's not the facilities that would tip this place into two star territory, but the management that unfortunately has too great a bearing on the customer experience. Situated on the bridge just before you go into Celbridge, is the Abbey Lodge, or MacNamees as it's known locally. This pub is a bit of an institution in the area. It's been here for years, and was extended and renovated when the good times were still rolling. This means that it's been done up to a really high standard, and, cosmetically, is actually quite a nice addition to the Celbridge town landscape. There is a cosy bar downstairs in which most sports are shown. Upstairs, there's a restaurant area and giant cavernous bar. This is generally quite empty save for big nights like New Year's Eve, Stephens' Night and private parties. In which case it gets mobbed, you'll have to put up with surly bouncers, and you'll have to drink your 8 yoyo drink kout of a plastic cup. In which case, you'd really have a better time getting yourself a six pack of Dutch Gold (Celbridge can du jour) and sitting at the Liffey! (Not really, but still...!) Good points? They do nice food here - the steak on the stone / sizzling fajitas tend to be the most popular dishes, and it's a grand spot to sit on a Sunday. There's also a pretty sizeable smoking area out the front. There is also free parking outside for regulars. The problem is the definition of the word 'regular'. 'Lots of money coming in the till' I suspect is the definition for McNamees. If you're not fulfilling this obligation, there is a very real chance you may get clamped, so beware of that one! If you come here on a nice quiet day, you're likely to enjoy your sup. If you come here on a busy day, think again.

The meals, it seemed, were all pre-prepared and had then been re-heated in a microwave which explained why my seafood chowder was lukewarm while hers was piping hot. We availed of the 'Ladies Night" deal and had our two courses for €20 each.
