The staff are very friendly but they still have the same old bouncers with will give some of the people who come to this place before and had a horrible time because of them a bitter taste towards the place they need to replace them so the place has a whole new feel. I haven't eaten here yet but after leaving the place in another pub we got talking to a couple and they couldn't stop talking about the restaurant and the food in the penny hill speaks for itself I suppose very cheap and tasty I didn't give it 5 stars because I haven't eaten here yet and the bouncers are the old ones from before and I've had a horrible experience with them so that stopped me from giving it 5 stars but i will return soon

The Cajun was way too spicy for me and the chips were ridiculously big. Wouldn't be rushing back.

The staff and the crowd of regulars at this charming pub are among the most welcoming we have experienced in all of Ireland! They were as excited to tell us about their country and as they were to ask about ours! They were funny and friendly and the highlight of our day. Aaaand should the Sam Maguire ever make it back to Mayo, we should return and celebrate with Sean!

Now that takes some beating. McEvoys is one of those places that is just made for one of those ultra-rare-not-a-cloud-in-the-sky days. Set right on the canal just outside of Celbridge is this gorgeous pub. Full of walkers who have come along the canal on a stroll with their dogs plus lots of locals and even some lucky houseboat owners. The mood is always friendly and jovial, with an atmosphere that's second to none. Here you will find: - A pre-pint walk along the canal - A load of benches with a view of the boats and the water - A super cosy and comfy bar inside if it gets a tad chilly in the evening (you know it will!) - A great pint of the black stuff - A dog friendly bar To be honest, whether it's raining or shining, I'd still recommend this spot. Gwan the outskirts!

The food is your average pub grub (burgers, steak, curries) but all the dishes were cooked very well. I found the menu a little limited (4 mains and a special) but we arrived at 4.45 so I'm guessing we got the lunch menu. By 6pm the place was heaving and a queue had formed for the tables so get there early at weekends if you don't fancy a wait at the bar. Oh and if you have forgotten to make the trip to Tesco for the wife don't panic, you can also buy Kerrygold, Cornflakes and Wellies behind the bar.

The only thing was that the food just wasn't quite good ENOUGH, and the place just wasn't quite cosy ENOUGH. Like it was all PRETTY good. But not amazing. Re. cosiness - we were sitting right next to a big open fire that wasn't lit and it was a really freezing day. Just get her lit lads!!! Re. the food. It was all good, but not sensational. We had chicken wings which had hardly any sauce on them. Sauce that up!!! The brownies were really doughy and not great - none of us finished them. The chowder was delish though as was the brown bread. I think if they just put a little bit of extra thought into the whole situation, this could be a five star-er. But for now, I'm gonna leave it at 3.5

I can sometimes find it hard to find something on a menu that I like however the menu was that vast I couldn't decide between a number of dishes. I opted for the vol au vents with chicken, bacon and mushrooms in a white wine sauce which also came with a side of chips. The other half order the BLT and chessey bacon chips. We also ordered a side of battered onion rings. We could have done without the sides as neither of us finished our meals as the portions were so big. My other half also ordered warm apple pie with ice cream for dessert (I don't know how but he managed to finish every bit). All this plus a coke and one pint cost less than €40. So reasonable but yet the food was soo good! The layout is nice as they have some little cubby areas to sit away from people watching the big screans. All the staff were soo friendly, we had a laugh and a joke with them! There is parking in the back of the pub however it only facilates a small number of cars and you need to ask for a permit to pop in your window. Overall really impressed and looking forward to going back.

I work in Leixlip from time to time and when I am there and looking for a good carvery lunch, Murphys is the best spot in town. The staff is always attentive and the food is always good. The one thing I think that separates Murphys from other carverys is the fact they always have four or more types of meat to choose from. You are not limited to pork loin, roast beef, or whatever a normal carvery is having that day. They always offer roast beef, pork loin, and turkey crown everyday, so you can always be sure to have something you haven't had already that week. They are also right down the road from HP and Intel, so for those of us who work in Leixlip or find themselves on-site there its pretty handy sure.
