Graces is one of those places you love to hate, I mean I bitch and moan about its noisy, overcrowded, uneventful status but somehow I find myself here most Saturday nights if I'm not in Dublin (or elsewhere).
The one good point to this place is that they have a late bar licence for Saturday nights till 2am and its free in so it beats paying in to the two nightclubs in the town.
The music can get you in the mood for a bit of a dance, playing mainly chart hits (but be warned the DJ has a habit of putting on terrible wedding classics too, eg. Summer Lovin) and although they don't have a dance floor as-such they do have a tiled (can be dangerous when drinks have been spilt or too much booze has been consumed) area beside the bar that most people tend to use to rub up agents one another or dance around their pints/handbags, otherwise if you are of the shyer or less drunk verity you can stand beside your chosen table and move your hips and click your fingers accordingly.
After around midnight the crowds become smaller as the very young or extremely drunk head off to time or the like. This means there is more room to maneuver and makes the place a hell of a lot better all round. Saying that, this place is not a place you want to head for a chat or to chat up, unless you wish to go outside to the smoking area that is ALWAYS jammed with people and smoke. Most people come here to score or to hear themselves think or of course SMOKE.
They have installed two tables with beer-taps so you can serve yourself a pint with an extremely large head, YUM (so unless you know what your doing, go to the very hard to get served at bar or you will be quite literally be pouring your money down the drain).
During the day Graces serve a verity of not too bad pub grub, at the right prices.
During the Puchestown Festival in the day this place is a not such a bad place to meet a few mates.
It hasn't changed over the years, its still packed, its still incredibly loud and the people who go every week seem to hate it as much as I do but we all seem to end up here. So there must be some appeal, oh yes I covered that, its free in, its got a late bar and sometimes its good to go out and say absolutely nothing to your mates and have a few too many drinks. read more
