After our seaside cliff hike and ferry boat ride around the "Eye of Ireland," our tour guide recommended this spot and it ended up being one of the highlights of the day. Even though the restaurant was busy, we were seated pretty quickly upstairs in a cozy dining room with a beautiful view. The service was friendly and efficient, and our food arrived surprisingly fast. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The seafood chowder was rich, flavorful, and definitely a must-try. The fish and chips portion was generous enough to share, with perfectly crispy fish and fresh fries. The oysters were incredibly fresh, sweet, and tasted straight from the sea. Overall, a fantastic dining experience with great food, quick service, and a warm atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. read more

Convenient spot right by the train station! We visited on a chillier day, and were sat in the back room with a roaring fireplace. Absolutely loved that. We split half a dozen oysters, and I had the seafood chowder and a side salad, and my partner had the fish and chips. My chowder was scrumptious. Big lumps of various fish, with yummy brown bread. I sorely needed veggies, and was happy the salad was full of cucumbers, carrots and red onion. The fries were looked like the end of a bag, so that was a little sad but the fish was very good and the oysters were excellent! These guys are right outside of the train station and SO BUSY. We walked by it at first thinking it was going to be the most touristy spot with the location, but ended up coming back for the food options and prices. They were totally booked up but we were luckily able to grab a quick spot. The other food looked phenomenal - the burgers were out of a magazine. I had already eaten but my fiancé got the seafood platter and for 20€ he says it was definitely what he expected. They had tons of variety on the plate and it was all good - not amazing but definitely good. Fries were crispy and tasted great. Its a good place to visit after a hike around Howth head, a walk along the pier or just to chill. Loving the vibe so far! Good music. And the servers are lovely. They all smile and it feels genuine. I started my meal with the fried calamari. The portion is small, but it tasted so fresh and so yummy! It made want more of the same. So it's a good starter! They let me know that they'll be having live music later, but it's 9 pm so I may have arrived too early. Around 10 pm they gave me a bingo card, I don't drink typically, but I'm competitive and I like music, so I'll play. Plus the first game is free! And I won!!!! I'm lucky in Ireland! I got a pint of Guinness! I don't know if this is a regular thing or if it was accidental, but they reset my silverware between the starter and the main course. I had the battered scampi. Thankfully this dish came with a nice fresh salad. I think I overdid it with fried food. The scampi was big and crunchy. Not as good as the calamari thought. How has no one mentioned the DJ?? The outdoor space was cozy and dry but there was only one sign that I saw in the restaurant that designated it as the smoking section. If you do not like the smell of cigarettes, recommended you sit inside. We went for the music on Sunday which was good during the day. Got a few cocktails. Not bad prices. Walked around and was recommended to go there after dinner. We were in the back room and A DJ STARTED SETTING UP and they turned on a disco ball! I'm usually a little apprehensive of restaurants close to transportation hubs, assuming they are overpriced and underwhelming.. Couldn't be more wrong about The Bloody Stream. Service was great and the food was awesome (and affordable). Good beer selection on tap and a wide variety of options for food. Decent outdoor space on a nice day, and a cozy interior. First, Howth is a magical place and if you haven't visited, you need to go. It's beautiful with lovely hikes, bay breezes, and kind people. Then, when you're finished, eat at The Bloody Stream! Located right next to the DART, it's easy in and out if that's your kinda thing. It has a great atmosphere, wasn't too crowded, the staff had excellent service, and the food was delicious. I'm compelled to eat chowder wherever I see it on the menu, and this didn't disappoint. My friend had the fish and chips, which she said were great and I sampled just to verify her claims. She also had the goat cheese salad which I didn't not sample but took her at her word that it was lovely. I had the salmon which was also on point. read more

One of the best chowders I've had in years. My son had the rib eye steak and he enjoyed it. Looked great to me. Howth is a cool little town to visit for the day. Nice cliff hike also. From Dublin take the train it's only €5 round trip. An Uber is around €30 one way. Also must try the Handson Jack beer. read more

Picking Howth as the venue for a day trip, our first stop was The Bloody Stream, conveniently located underneath the Dart station. We seated ourselves at the bar and started off gently, basically ignoring the convivial atmosphere and fine seafood restaurant and going straight for pints. A little later on, we took our drinks out to the covered beer garden/smoking area, where we met a lovely dog who could catch beer mats in his mouth. This was my first time visiting Ireland. We took a day to go to Howth, and ate at The Bloody Stream. I had the Seafood Platter for one and it was delicious. My partner got the seafood chowder and the warm goat cheese salad. The chowder was amazing! The warm goat cheese salad had onions on it, but that wasn't advertised. He had to send it back, and when it was remade it came out without the balsamic glaze on it. He did not ask for it because the service was slow and it took about 10-15 minutes for someone to come by. Service was very slow, and it took another 15 minutes to get our bill. I would definitely recommend, but be prepared to stay a while. read more

We'd just finished an epic walk around Howth Head. The long one. The Big Kehuna! And our legs were about to fall off. We needed to rest, warm up and have some refreshments. Cue The Bloody Stream. There was a lovely warm fire going and as luck would have it, there was a barrel with four highstools around it waiting to be sat at. On a cold winters day, this was a excellent find for us weary hikers. Just what we needed. Warming up with some minerals in hand, we regaled ourselves of the adventure we just had around the wilds of Howth. But this was not my first time here in The Bloody Stream. We had stopped off before after the same said hike the summer before. On that occasion it was a lovely picnic table out in the sun that we recovered at. And on another occasion with a girlfriend of mine, we caught up with a good natter one Saturday night while we listened to some great acoustic covers played by a guy on a guitar. Recommended. Had an excellent Sunday at the Bloody Stream. We were directed there by a tour guide because we wanted to listen to some Thin Lizzy. We spent the afternoon listening to Jimmy Coup playing Thin Lizzy as well as other hits. Jimmy is a HUGE Thin Lizzy fan!! He plays there every Sunday at 3:30 PM during summer months. He was completely awesome, a great musician & did not disappoint! A good time was had by all! A great hang for music lovers! As a bonus we got to meet Phillip Lynott's Mum, a lovely lady. The Bloody Stream is a good pub, but it is an OUTSTANDING pub when Jimmy Coup is rocking the house! read more

Divine fish'n'chips. A little overpriced, but very cosy and very conveniently located directly at the train station. Great place to have a glass and a snack before getting back to Dublin - actually more than a snack, we shared a portion of fish n chips and were super full. Service is also very nice and friendly, plus very democratic: our waitress was having dinner sitting at a table nearby. After going past here for the last 20+ years everytime I am in Howth I eventually got in here on a Sunday. It was 4pm and not too packed, which was nice. Yes there were tourists around but there were locals aswell. The breakdown of rooms was nice that it didn't seem too big, or shall we say it was 'personal'. There was no music other than the radio - playing some trad music. The food was great, I had 'Dublin Bay Scampi' - though my father always said "scampi is Dublin Bay Prawns" - anyway my friend had Salmon with 'scampi and capers?' (what are capers?) All was going ok, then we got the bill which was €20 each (1 beer each). Why? Because they add 10% service charge to everybody on Sat, Sun & Bank Holiday Mondays - I wonder what happens on Paddy's day - I mean the prices were on the middling side already but what is the 10% added on for? There was nothing special and it was a sneaky charge sure to leave a sour taste in everybody's mouth - except the owner that is. Get there on any other day than Sat or Sun and the food is good along with the music. read more

Seafood Specials! We were having trouble finding a seafood restaurant near our hotel so we jumped on the DART and ventured to Howth. This restaurant advertised great seafood. I ordered the fish special which was Haddock with boiled potatoes. The fish was ok and the potatoes were good. My husband and I ordered the mushy peas and just didn't care for this version. Our waitress was great. They had a special that was a carafe of house wine for 10 euros. The wine was really good, much better than I expected from house wine. This place has a cozy old-fashioned feel to it inside and a beer garden outside. We didn't stay late enough for the music because we had to get up early the next morning. read more

Wow, I loved this place! I had taken a little mini weekend vacation out to Dublin, and decided to take the DART out to Howth. This restaurant is located right underneath the DART station, so it's easy to find. Going in, I ordered a seafood platter, which was made up of seafood caught fresh that day, so it really was the freshest seafood that I have ever eaten! The platter had a good variety - some fish, some oysters, mussels, etc... and tasted perfect with a pint. The portion was also really perfect, compared with the oversized American portions that I'm used to. After an excellent afternoon spent walking on the cliff hike, this meal was a great way to finish off the day. I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to visit Ireland again, but if I do, this place will most definitely be on my list! read more

Parking : a good amount of free parking just around the corner. Although tricky to get a spot due to the harbour area being so popular. Menu : fairly standard pub options with two additional fish choices on the special board. All four of us opted for fish and chips. The fish, chips and mushy peas came presented wrapped in news paper and looked great. The fish was amazing, nicely battered and crisp. The mushy peas were frozen and hadn't been warmed up fully and chips were soggy, added to deep fat fryer before oil was at full temperature? It was a shame because they looked to be hand cut and were of a good size. Eaton mess for dessert was very good and had a tasty berry twist. Atmosphere \ decor : dark with log fire. Not sure if TVs were necessary for a restaurant style pub. Would love to go back to spend gloomy afternoon drinking wine. Service : busy but good service regardless. Nice spot for a few drinks, It's a fairly dark pub, friendly bar staff, great location in Howth. The food was so so, steaks were a bit on the tough side, seafood platter had what looked like tinned tuna - too much marie rose sauce on it too. Way more bread than seafood! Overall, I would recommend for a few drinks, but there are far nicer places around the corner and in Howth in general to eat good local fresh seafood. read more

First off, great location for them so kudos, and I'm sure people are so intrigued by the name that they have to go in, no matter how graphic it sounds. I got the smoked salmon sandwich and hated it. I like seafood so it wasn't me trying something new, it just wasn't very good. My friend ordered the fresh crab sandwich and couldn't even eat it. The only good meal out of the five my friends and I ordered was the Irish stew. All overpriced and the service wasn't very good. I have heard good things about this place so maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but I don't think I want to risk trying again and being disappointed. read more

Very inviting. Convenient. At the DART station. The waitresses were so pretty & sweet. All of Dublin could take hospitality lessons. Great experience. Too friendly to be true. Quite enjoyable. I had wild mussels and potato skins & a fantastic glass of Rioja. All good. One of the better meals I have had. This was one of my favorite restaurants/ pubs during my Dublin holiday and it was in Howth - a day trip I thought would be pretty visual yet uninspiring. The warm environment was complete with a wood burning fireplace and high backed chairs on one end of the restaurant. Even though the town was empty (off season) the pub was full.
