This pub was great. My Airbnb hostess invited me here on St. Paddy's Day to watch the 2018 Six Nations Championship, and I happily joined. In addition to get a lesson in rugby (which I quite like, BTW), I was greeted with friendly service and a fun atmosphere. The pub was packed for the game. They have a great local beer selection and a great gin selection. I stuck with a local craft brew. Though I forget which one, it was great. I never got to try the gin but I was impressed. I also ordered a burger with fries and it was fantastic. The burger was huge and delicious, and the fries were perfectly cooked. Five stars because they were super kind in giving us a table while raining and having walked to get there. They accommodated two separate tables and were super nice throughout the dinner. Beer options are fantastic in a lively atmosphere that is family friendly. I got the Ambish beer which was ranked #1 in their suggestions. Loved it. One of the worst meals I've ever had. My family was looking for a nice meal near our AirBnb in our last night in Ireland and what half of us got was for the most part inedible. The prime ribs were full of fat and undercooked. We like steak medium rare, but these were raw. I didn't bother sending mine back because it was full of fat that I couldn't chew through anyway. They took one steak off our bill, but we had ordered three and they were all bad. read more

Revisited last night with 2 girl friends and was as good again. The upstairs restaurant is now gone but we did try their brownie dessert and it was gorgeous. I had wings again- shocker! And the beef burger with smoked gubeen, red pepper salsa and crispy fried shallots. No bun. Delish. The portions really are very big here though so I wouldn't order starter and main again as for the second time I left half the burger behind and a lot of the chips. read more

You cannot go wrong with a decent bottle of Sauvignon Blanc in Dublin for 24 euro! Cosy pub atmosphere, and good proximity to the city made for a great visit, and would definitely recommend if you're looking for a local, authentic Irish pub, and a sparkling touch of Dublin. read more

The bar still rocks in terms of beer selection and the staff are great too, very on the ball and attentive on our last visit. The menu has changed since my first review (when the menu was mainly pies). That said my husband did get the one pie on the menu, which came with pickled veg. Odd combo. We both assumed the pie would come with some sort of potato on the side, which it didn't. At 14 EUR, it a little disappointing. My risotto was much better value and very tasty. Ideal combo with peas and crunchy green veg. Oddly served in a plate and not a bowl. But it did the job none the less. The wings we shared as a starter were very tasty. read more

Of all the pubs and bars in Dublin, this hasn't been my favorite. Their food is just average -- I got pork ribs what were quite overcooked and not tender. The accompanying potato salad was delicious, though. Figures they would have good potatoes, it is Ireland after all... Beer selection is decent! Came here for the. Dublin launch of a coworker's friends brewery. Lots of beer tastings and friendly staff. Would come again if I other places were busy and I'm just looking for a place to grab a beer. read more

Upstairs lounge 1 stars + downstairs pub 4 stars = average 2.5 stars. Visited on Sat evening and ventured upstairs to the lounge as the pub was busy with a RWC match on. Was told by the manager that tables are only for dining guests and when I asked when one might be available to use for drinks, he retorted with a snarky "how long is a piece of string" comment. Mind you, the place was mostly empty at 9 pm, with the kitchen closing at 10. Rebuffed by him, we went back downstairs and had a decent time - the barmen were knowledgeable about craft beer and made some good recommendations. The pub was also inclined towards local spirits, rather enjoyed quite a few Dingle gin + tonics. Unfortunately the earlier experience left a pretty bad taste in my mouth so I won't be back again. Bad customer service is awful, but when it's laced with sarcasm, it's unforgivable. read more

I like this place, it traditional but new, it is a pub but clean, it is kind of trendy but with regulars having a drink there every night. As may you already noticed there is trend in Dublin to open pubs with craft beers and games, sorry to disappoint you but this pub has only craft beers, no games. It has a good selection of "alternative" beers, many of them from the tap. The staff is friendly and the food is nice, may the menu is a bit short, but remember: you are in a pub. This pub in the city center would be overcrowded every night, but due to its location it is easy to get a table to have a drink and a chat with friends. read more

I've been here now twice and love it here - despite it being slightly out of my way, but plenty of bus routes nearby helps. As far as I know it's the only independent craft beer pub in Dublin. With a lovely variety to choose from indeed. The first time I went for their lamb burger and loved it. Next time we were in a group and got platter with our beer tasting. The platter consisted of wedges, lovely crispy onion rings but our favourites were the lemon and honey chicken wings. Even a friend who loves his chicken wings elsewhere declared them his favourites. Lovely staff and atmosphere help enjoying your stay there. I'll definitly will take the journey more often in future. read more

Lovely staff, fantastic range of beers on tap, tasty food, mellow atmosphere. What more could you want from a pub? I love the fact that there are always new beers to taste. They also give you twenty per cent off your bill on Monday and Tuesday. I sometimes stop off in my way home and have a craft beer and a mains for €15 on one of those nights. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area. read more

A really great local bar. The bar staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Great selection of craft beers on tap/cask (allegedly Ireland's largest selection...). Beer or whiskey tasting trays allow great sampling options. Prices are also far more reasonable here than in many of Dublin's extortionate craft beer bars. A variety of cocktails are also available at very reasonable prices, most using irish distillery spirits and home-infused specialties. A full dining option is still pending, but pies and charcuterie boards more than make up for it. read more

The pies were nice, however, not enough for a meal. It really should have been served with a side of hot chips. We were staying at an Airbnb in the neighborhood and The Headline was recommended. Best fish and chips ever. The atmosphere was great, the place clean and the staff friendly, not to mention the price was right. I'm so lucky to have The Headline as my local! Re-opened just shy of a year, the vibe in the place is relaxed, you'd never suspect that it hasn't been part of the buzz around South Circular Road for longer. For drink and food, it offers excellent value that can't be found in the city centre - I want to keep it a secret! My failsafe tipple is the Dingle Gin and tonic - €5.50! €2 less than most city centre pubs, and you're always guaranteed a seat, rather than muscling through the hoards of trendy people spilling out onto the streets on South William St. I recently tried their newly opened upstairs restaurant - which also has a fully stocked bar upstairs. They've an impressive selection of grub, but I was disappointed to see only one vegetarian option on a menu of about 10 mains for meat eaters. Given that the spiced chickpea burger was moreish and satisfying, I'd rather more choice if I was to dine there again. It was served with a bulgar wheat salad, a welcome change from a side of chips. We did however order a side of chips - on the advice of the friendly waitress (whom I think is one of the co-owners), we got one to share - and I'm glad we did, it was a very generous serving of beautifully cut home made chips. We lingered a while upstairs, and were encouraged to do so - the staff there are so accommodating! I was so encouraged by the food I'd just eaten that I managed to make my way through a rich chocolate brownie, served with vanilla ice-cream, both tasted as though they were made of high quality ingredients, as I have no doubt they probably were! I'd recommend this place to anyone, if you're looking for a cosy drink, a relaxed dining experience (they recommend beers for each main course), it apparently stocks Ireland's largest selection of craft beers on tap, if you're into craft beers (which my dining partner was!) And you can't rival an Irish gin and tonic for €5.50! read more

Great selection of Craft beers and friendly staff. This is one of my favorite places in Dublin for fish and chips :) it's located on Clanbrassil street and because it's not directly in the city centre there's usually plenty of seats too and it's never overly crowded. read more

The old Headline bar has been refurbished and now serves a great selection of craft beers and ciders along with a limited but delish food menu. Beer, pies and cheeseboard, good enough! The decor is cosy, seats are comfy, there are a few little cosy nooks to hang out in. The only negatives would be no outdoor area which is fine for the winter but come spring will be an issue, also I found the wine list very pricey for a pub. Oh and they have Keogh's crisps! read more

Brilliant local bar, with an amazing selection of craft beer! A lovely local pub, really comfy with lots of cosy corners and all the papers on a Sunday. The food is also really great, especially their chips - yum! The pulled pork sambo and the fish and chips are my two stand-out dishes, but really everything I've tasted has been lovely. Next up is their Upstairs restaurant which I have yet to sample, but I will be darkening their door very soon! read more

Everything I need in a local, great food super selection of delectable beers with a friendly atmosphere and congenial hosts.

This is the bar I would consider my local, and probably the best craft beer bar in Dublin. It's the only one that seems to regularly cycle the taps and brings in new brews regularly, along with having a different cask ale (ie. a real ale) on special anytime you go in. Yes, it's pricey enough, but it's worth it. The owner/ manager, whose name I cannot for the life of me remember, is a gent also. I ran in there one day after a night out in desperate need of food from Kebabish, the excellent kebab place across the road, while every cash machine in what seemed like ten miles was out of order, and the place was closing in 5 minutes. I hastily asked for a half of Dark Arts and twenty euro cash back. Of course, the bar person gave me a funny look and asked himself only for him to laugh and say 'I would never deny anyone a kebab!' Needless to say I greatly appreciated the gesture, and the excellent business practice. The first time I was in there was also an excellent experience, as the owner/ manager gave us recommendations and allowed us to sample before we settled on a drink (and, in turn, all of us had a no. 2 in our minds that we wanted to go for). I would also recommend the cheese board, and to talk to the manager for recommended beer pairings, he knows his flavours. While the place is a lot more busier than when I started going to it, it's great to see people supporting quality product and service when it comes along. It's never too packed, and I always manage to find a seat for two at least. Something to try out - they serve Dingle Whiskey, which would make me think the place is owned by the Porterhouse guys to use as a market testing ground, which will not be available to the general market till 2016, so it's an opportunity to sample it before hand. It was fair too young and sharp for me, the punch seemed to overpower the flavour. However, I would try it again to see it I was initially wrong, as I can be, and greatly look forward to sampling it properly when the product is finished in 2016. They also do a free cheeseboard if you book a table for 4 ahead via phone or twitter, something which I've always been meaning to do. Overall, a solid bar which is made by the staff and the quality of the brews. read more

Having just had a new baby we decided to go to the local to celebrate our wedding anniversary . We arrived a 6:25pm but the bar man told us that the baby had to be out by 7pm so he didn't think we'd be fed on time. We said it was our wedding anniversary , we'd eat fast and if the baby woke we'd leave immediately . Despite our appeals he kept repeating "it's our policy". It was a Monday night, the place was quiet, we were there before 7 and said we'd leave if the baby woke. There was no customer service orientated flexibility or understanding.
