I have had the fortune of having Lonnie Carpenter as my hairstylist. In the two years I have seen Lonnie, I have consistently found him to be conscientious, creative, intelligent, and possessing the highest skill set. I would not hesitate to recommend him. When I came to Mode, I sought Lonnie's counsel and was met with a "Hair Solutions Consultant." Lonnie has demonstrated a specific propensity for eliminating my hair limitations. Instead Lonnie uses hair limitations as an opportunity to share his advanced training in the technological advances made in the hair industry. He has proven he can overcome both genetic and environmental obstacles that kept me from having the hair styles of my dreams. Recently I came to Lonnie with part of my hair over worked and fried. I knew new growth was the only solution and the needed time to accomplish that would be miserable. Lonnie didn't miss a beat when he suggested I put a handful of micro-extensions in my hair. These extensions are genius!!! He matched the color perfectly and the beautiful extension's texture hides the damage. They look natural and were extremely affordable. They last three months and that will provide the time needed for the new growth but without the misery. Lonnie totally thinks outside of the box and as a result he offers unique services. Most pay big bucks for extensions but by offering mini-services he makes the Hollywood treatments affordable. About a year ago I decided that I wanted to find a new salon. I chose to visit this one for the first time because I wanted a salon that was downtown as I like to support downtown businesses. I also liked how the business was located in a restored property rather than a strip mall. My first visit was terrific. The business is positively lovely, inside and out. I like the attention to detail in the design and layout of the property. It is very relaxing to be in such a lovely space. My only complaint with the property is that the sign near the road is quite small. Sarah Hunter cut my hair. At the time, she was new to Mode so I thought that I'd give her a try. She is a pleasure to work with. She started the appointment with a consultation. She really let me explain my concerns and was very attentive. She then gave a brief (5 min) shoulder massage, washed and then cut my hair. She also took my suggestions immediately during the cut. Perhaps I should also mention that I forgot about the appointment and they had to call me and I showed up more than 15 minutes late! They were kind and understanding about this. I have recommended three different friends to Sarah who have all loved their hair. I have also been back at least one other time, I can't remember if there was a third appointment or not. When I originally moved to Gainesville from Ft. Lauderdale, I was skeptical to find a trustworthy stylist in town. However, a friend of mine recommended Lonie before he opened Mode Salon. I have been seeing Lonie for the past 4 years and will continue to visit Mode Salon while I am in grad school. The Salon is absolutely gorgeous. It's located in an old historic home right across from the Duck Pond neighborhood. You will feel a sense of peace and relaxation upon entering the salon. The staff are all friendly and you will always feel special. Additionally, the salon uses excellent products (e.g. GHD, Davines, etc.), which is a plus! Lonie, in particular, has a way of making all his clients feel beautiful; you will leave the salon feeling beautiful, too. He starts all appointments with a stress relief massage, and will make sure he knows exactly what his client wants before he gets to work. Lonie also does a great job with educating his clients while he's working on your hair. He really is a wealth of knowledge, so you can ask him anything. Surely, he will know the answer. I have been going to both Mode locations for over 4 yrs. now and have always been happy with the results. I love the open chair policy because Christina Meng who is a master cannot always be available. She has recommended another person and there is no problem going to both stylists My color formula is kept at both locations for my convenience.The Davines and Aveda products are all plant derived and there is no comparison to the excellent quality. I love the idea that all Aveda products are made by villagers from which the native plants grow and Aveda pays fair wage to its employees all around the world. Since I have gone to Mode there has been not one drop of any chemical or synthetic product on my hair and it shows. Both locations make me always feel welcome and comfortable. .Other salons have always started out great but once they get used to me coming in it seems they lose their enthusiasm and my hair suffers as a result. I will continue to use there 2 fantastic salons not just because of the quality of care but the pride and professionalism each person has. read more

I was referred by a salon that wont be able to accomodate my request and was told to see Rosè.. I was hesitant at first due to my frustration with the previous salon that I was booked with. But since i have wasted my time already , i took a leap and headed to Mode Salon east! Oh boy!!! Im glad I did took the chance! The customer service is spectacular from the front desk to meeting Rosè! Amazing personality , very professional! I did the hair consultation and was able to squeeze me in a short period of time! And today , I am sitting in her chair , looking forward to the the outcome of the concerns that I wanted to happen with my hair. did i like the outcome??? LIKE is understatement, I super LOVE IT! Alyssa Imman has been my hair stylist for well over seven years. I would follow her anywhere and am pleased that she is now a stylist at Mode Salon. She always listens closely and gives her undivided attention to my concerns regarding my hair. She consistently leaves me walking away feeling like a million bucks! She has a wonderful personality and is one of the most experienced hair stylists that I have ever met and I wouldn't trust my hair to anyone else. Alyssa, the owners, and the entire staff at Mode are terrific. From the time you walk in the door until the time you leave, they make you feel relaxed, welcome and totally pampered. The atmosphere is chic; the decor and colors extremely soothing and tasteful. They offer numerous other spa services as well and use natural products. Mode Salon is a nice change from the usual salons in gainesville. very tastefully decorated. I have been looking for a stylist in gainesville ever since I moved here 12 years ago. I decided to give Anne-Marie a try. and she is the first stylist I found that listened to what I wanted and was willing to add a little of her own creativity into my haircut. For the first time in 12 years I walked out with hair that looked great and up to date. I'm not saying I haven't had nice haircuts before, but all the stylists I have gone to even when given liberty to go for it always feel restrained because they don't want to give me a "bad" haircut. Anne-Marie advised me on how to style my hair type and was able to give me a haircut I could manage and that looked hip. This is the 1st salon I've gone to that made me want to stay, make it mine and tell everyone about it. I loved my haircut and the coloring was perfect. But my love for Mode Salon goes beyond the great cut and color. It is the serene and warm ambience. It's so nice to walk in a salon and not be accosted by fumes and noise. Salons make me dizzy, frazzled and stressed. Therefore, I've been lacking any hairstyle and used store bought box dye. I'm so happy I stumbled on Mode Salon housed in a gorgeous turn of the century house with beautifully decorated rooms, high ceilings and eclectic charm. The owners and stylists are so gracious and a joy to spend time with. Last and not least, they sell shampoo and conditioner that you bring back when empty for a refill so you don't have more containers and packaging to just throw away. Yay! read more

Until I found Mode, I had 5 years of bad luck with salons all over Gainesville... I had never really found a stylist who's talented or that I've admired as much as the London-born one I had in Orange County, CA years ago. My sister-in-law referred me to Mode this year, and I fell under the care of Stephanie. She did exactly as I asked, a simple haircut and style, but it turned out much more stylish and flattering to me than I had dreamed of. And it was still easy to care for. I loved the products she washed my hair with and bought the shampoo and conditioner, which are the best products I've ever used on my fine, wimpy, oily hair. It's much softer and wavier now with less frizz. As other reviewers have said, everyone there is friendly, very welcoming and the old house is so cozy and chic. Mode is THE BEST! Lonie has been my stylist since Mode opened in Gainesville and when I moved out of the area I tried several other upscale salons in big city settings and NONE can compare! Therefore, I now schedule a day each month so I can travel to Gainesville to have Lonie color and style my hair. I would fly to New York City or out to LA every month if that is where Lonie is because he is the best! He could very well be a top stylist for the celebs because he is so knowledgeable, creative and talented. Everyone at Mode is amazing...the staff members are highly skilled professionals. The salon atmosphere is inviting and uplifting. I love the Davines products featured at Mode and I consistently experience excellent color and texture results with Davines. I recently got my hair done by Alfie and I love it SO much. I went in knowing I wanted to be a redhead of sorts, and by the end of what was about two hours I'd say, I had beautiful auburn hair. Alf was very knowledgeable and also advised me on some great products and gave me some super helpful tips on how to maintain my beautiful new red hair for as long as I can - if you've been red before too you know how quickly it wants to wash out. Also, wowie the products they use at the salon smell like heaven - the dye itself has the most minimal smell I've ever experienced (Alf informed me that it's a revolutionary formula that has very little ammonia), and the shampoo and leave in products had me feeling like an actual princess. 10/10 would recommend!!! I have not been to this location in awhile, but when I went it was great. The stylist is no longer there but apparently they have a new one who specializes in curly hair so I am excited to give her a go! The location next to TJ Maxx is pretty good, everyone is really nice. I wish the girl who cut my hair would have been more honest about not really knowing how to cut curly hair. I tried helping her out explaining I needed an S Pattern, etc. but she still cut horrible layers and I have been growing it for awhile now. i called and SW the manager and she was very understanding. I had an appt that next week so i wish they would have offered to give me a discount or something, but they did not. Oh well, I will keep going to the University Ave location instead :) read more

Eugene Davis is a MIRACLE worker!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to a less than stellar salon and had my hair colored. I hated the color. I called Mode, and scheduled a consultation. Eugene and Lonie met with me and gave me some recommendations, explaining thoroughly the process. I was skeptical that my hair could not be remedied. I decided to go ahead and have Eugene 'fix' my hair. HOLY MOLY!!!!!! I couldn't BELIEVE how awesome it looked. In addition to the hair color and the feel of my hair after he finished, I was super impressed with the professionalism and genuineness of all the staff. Spent $55+20% tip on a bad haircut that took 20 minutes- no shampoo, styling after the cut, or any products used. The stylist, Claudia, did this to save time because she was 20 minutes late for (my 11am) appt. When I questioned the price due to the lack of shampoo, styling and products, the desk clerk argued. I shouldn't have paid and certainly shouldn't have tipped, but I did just to get out of there as fast as possible before I burst into tears over the horrible haircut I got. Will not return and do not recommend. You're better off going to Supercuts. EDIT: I received a phone call from the salon offering to refund my money IF I removed my bad review. Well they are kinda of pricey. But that isn't a bother for good product. There staff is somewhat lacking though. I also Would not get my hair cut By Zoe again. She left me uneven. Sure i could call complain and get a worse hair cut but that's OK ill pass and do what i do. Write reviews. Front end staff is kinda of stiff and unfriendly, price of product is a little high, and again wont be getting my hair cut by Zoe ever again if i do go back. Nail techs are great and so are other aspects of the spa. I don't mind paying more for good product. However i go to a place to get pampered by all aspects. Meaning nails, hair, and even massage. Between the bad hair cut and unfriendly front end staff i'm not sure ill be back. read more

I've lived in Gainesville for 6 years now and have struggled to find a salon that delivers excellent service and results at reasonable prices! Luckily, I found that place at Mode Salon! Their salon is not only beautiful, but the staff is friendly and really treats the customers with respect. I have been going to Stephanie for several months now, and she has gone out of her way to make sure my color is fabulous and just what I want! I have a difficult color to match, but she takes care to get it right every time. I know I'll always be beautiful when I leave Mode Salon. It's my second time at Mode Salon, and I love it. As someone who has always either cut her own hair or had her mom do it, I am finally converted after trying several salons in town and deciding it wasn't worth the money. Brett did an awesome job with my long and face-framing layers, and was incredibly pleasant to spend an hour with, even though I had to bring my baby and a my bulky stroller with me. The place is clean and charming, everyone there seems like they genuinely work together well, pricing is very reasonable, service Is excellent, they made sure to know what exactly I wanted, but mostly my hair just looks great and that's all I needed! I go here often but not all the time. Seems lately some of the staff is going through some personal issues and it has affected their ability to perform. I had the person I normally see improves but I think I will stay away awhile. I like to be positive and up beat. I don't want someone who is down or negative doing my hair. I live life to the fullest and want only the best of the best. So ill give Mode Salon a rest and maybe visit again when the girl who does my hair has an up beat attitude again instead of negative. I have been to Mode a few times now and I absolutely love it. The atmosphere is great; the people are friendly, skilled and knowledgeable. I recommend the Brazilian Blowout. It makes unruly hair sleek and straight. It has drastically cut the time it takes me to get ready. They offer different options for the Brazilian Blowout, which I found very convenient; you don't have to do all of your hair- you could just do your bangs if you wanted. In the past, Lonie has cut my hair. I appreciate how he takes time to make sure everything is perfect. He knows a lot about new products and is very informative. Everyone at the salon is awesome.
