This is a Davines salon which are the best hair products I've ever used. Davines makes a semi permanent hair color that is ammonia free but still delivers on coverage. For sensitive skin like mine, to have an ammonia free color with amazing results is miraculous. I've tried another ammonia free color by Redken and it burned my scalp. Kyli is an amazing stylist. I've never had such a satisfactory and flattering cut, and I have challenging hair, until Kyli. Overall positive vibe all around. Great experience with nails and eyebrows as well. read more

I went in for a consultation trying to find a place and someone that would care about my hair needs as much as I needed since I have color and heat damage/breakage. Not only was Lily such a pleasure , but Lonie came over to assist in the consultation. My 15min consulting appointment turned into a treatment plan mapped out and even got a beautiful haircut and first of the treatments done! I worked for them for a month and now they won't give me my third week paycheck! It's sad because the first week I worked there they took down their pay scale and wouldn't email me it like they said they would. I knew something was shady with them on how they pay their employees and I was right!!! I truly feel bad for the stylist that work there. Giving them video classes when I used to get hands-on classes and not being charged for it!! Oh yeah, they charge them for that too, if it's hands on. What a joke! Pay me my money! I went there to pick up my check that was left there in my station, they said they would mail it to me and six weeks later, still nothing. Don't go there! Went to mode salon because it seemed like a classy place and should be able to do great hair. However I came out after 5 hours of being there with ORANGE highlights!!! HORRIBLE results....I felt like it was a hair school because my lady was fumbling about and the mistake happened bc the foil bled onto my scalp creating the biggest orange spot on my main part! I attempted to have it fixed and round 2 was even worse! This salon is terrible and their people can't do highlights! Now I am forced to pay hundreds of dollars to fixed my damaged hair. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE !!! Unless you want your hair ruined. read more

This was my first visit to Mode Salon East Spa. It was great...until check-out. Quaintly located in downtown Gainesville in an old historic house building, they did a nice job jazzing up the place with modern decor - sparkly chandeliers, furniture that has an IKEA feel, while still reserving the historic feeling. Very clean and well kept, the red-head receptionist warmly welcomed me when I arrived. As a first time customer, I scheduled a Mini-Pedi ($30) and Manicure Shellac ($40). Both were worth the quality of work I got from nail technician, Jessica. She was bubbly, conversational and gave me exactly what I asked for on my nails. She is very detailed in her work leaving my nails flawless. My gripe with Mode came at check-out. Their website offers "$20 off $50 for first time customers only". I wanted to take advantage of this on my first visit. When I checked out, the receptionist said she needed to check with someone else on this coupon (maybe the front desk manage, I'm unsure). Another lady came out and told me they cannot honor the coupon because it's $50 off a SINGLE service. Nowhere on the coupon or website does it say this. I pointed this fact out and the woman just stared at me and said they could give me 20% off instead - not the same as $20 off. She was unwilling to honor their misworded coupon - a shame. I paid and left and mentioned again to the first receptionist that they should consider fixing their wording because it does not state 'single service' anywhere. She agreed at least. The salon saved themselves $14 by not honoring their website's coupon and left me with a sour taste in my mouth on how the situation was handled. Hopefully they will revise the website's coupon for future first-timers so they don't upset other people wanting to try - and hoping to like - their salon that did everything GREAT...until check-out. Well, from my prior posting concerning Elan Hair Studio, you can imagine my angst when I called to schedule an appointment with Ashley Patrice, my stylist, and was informed that she no longer worked there. But I must give major kudos to Elan, they supplied me with her new location and phone number. I was relieved that she was still in town. I immediately called Mode to schedule an appointment. Mode is big city salon meets small town hospitality. Upon my arrival I was greeted at the door and welcomed. The owner spied a new guest and welcomed me himself and gave me a tour of the salon. It's gorgeous. Beautiful colors, decor and modern facilities fill the building. I was given a cup of coffee when Ashley came out to greet me. I would follow Ashley anywhere within 8 hours driving. She is fun, smart, patient and great with my hair. If I were straight, I would try to steal her from her boyfriend. One added plus for Mode - the price is very reasonable. Oh, and they're very environmentally conscious, if that's your thing. Not to mention the owner is kinda cute. read more

(It should be noted that though I no longer live in Gainesville, I came all the way from Atlanta to have Mode Salon and Emily take care of me.) I very rarely treat myself to a proper hair appointment, and it's been about a year since my last trip to the salon. I decided to visit Mode Salon because I had been following one of their newer stylists' Instagram (@hairbyeclaire) for a while and been absolutely DYING (pun intended) to have her color my hair. She is incredibly talented and motivated to continue improving, as she's fresh out of school. I think she's a fantastic fit for Mode Salon, as they are able to provide a fantastic environment for her to hone her skill set. Upon arrival, Emily greeted me and took me on a quick tour of the renovated home-turned-salon; the whole place is beautifully decorated and actually has the original wood flooring! She led me to the back room where the magic happens, and I was seated next to where Lonie (one of the owners) was working on another lady's hair. Introductions were made, and we got down to business. I explained to Emily the length I was looking for, the color I wanted (while she was cutting away at my box color ombre, I perused Google and Pinterest for some pictures to show her the color I was looking for), and how I normally wear my hair. The length ended up a little shorter than originally intended but it was probably necessary. It got rid of all the previously colored hair and gave her a blank canvas for my ombre. I am absolutely OBSESSED with the way the color came out. Emily showed me a couple of swatches that were close to what I was looking for, but when none of them really jumped out at me, she suggested adding a drop of one to another idk man, it was freaking magic. It turned out EXACTLY the color I wanted, and thanks to a new technique she used to apply the color, was thorough and quick. Once I was washed, dried and styled, she took me around to the other stylists and we showed off my color to them. It's freaking awesome, guys. I also have to add a couple things about my experience: Emily gave me such incredible service during my time there. She brought me tea, magazines, a hand scrub, anything I needed to pass the time comfortably. I was given a shirt to throw on over what I wore there because I'm an idiot and wore a white top. Really just above and beyond the requirement to make sure my time there was fantastic. ALSO. I LOVE the way the team there works together. Since Emily is still relatively new to the salon (~four months), she was constantly getting guidance from Lonie and another stylist that was there. And not in a way that made me uncomfortable or worried about how things would turn out. More so in a way that makes you really glad that someone with such great potential found a place like Mode Salon that can really cultivate natural skill and passion into something great. This is the best salon I've ever been to, and Emily Claire is the best hair stylist I've ever been to!!!!! I was happy to be offered a consultation with Emily before booking the appointment. The atmosphere of the salon is fabulous. Everyone is so kind and accommodating. The products this salon uses are amazing! I really liked Emily because she allowed me to customize my own hair. She didn't just sit my down in a chair and slap some color on. First, she explained the cut to me as she was doing each step so I could say what I wanted more or less of. Then she started the balayage process. Another thing that impressed me was that I could pick the shade of toner that was applied to my hair! I went with the shade Emily recommended, and I loved it. What I appreciated most about the entire experience is Emily taught me how to maintain my color to keep it looked toned and fresh! I had heard great things about Mode so I wanted to give it a try. I called to make an appointment and Joanne (I believe her name was) was available. Everything was great when I got there. The ambiance and the design of the salon is absolutely beautiful. My hair stylist greeted me and brought me back along with my partner who was with me at the time. I explained to her that it had been a while since I got my hair cut and I wanted to get a substantial portion cut in order to get rid of split ends. She then informed me in a condescending way that there was no need to cut that much and I, along with other hair stylists that I have been to, are wrong. This left an awkward feeling in the air that never left. Also, I know it is annoying to many hair stylists when clients use their phone in the chair so I asked my partner to hold It for me. I was waiting on a message and asked if he could read It to me quickly and the hair stylist snapped, "can you just give me two minutes?????" which was very unprofessional. I was not using my phone at all before then and that was the only time I had asked about my messages. It just wasn't a pleasant experience. I paid my $40 + tip and went on my way. While thinking about the experience, I realized that she had never given me a wash or blow-dry. I called back to ask what the $40 covered and was informed the price included a wash, cut, and blow-dry. So in the end, I paid about $50 for a 15 minute haircut. I had a great experience at Mode Salon East! I am rather hopeless when it comes to hair and I have an out-of-state event coming up, so I booked an appointment for a haircut with Jimmy and another appointment with Emily M. who seems to be the salon's up-do guru :) Jimmy was lovely to chat with and gave me a great cut. He was happy to tell me all about the product line he was using in my hair (Davines) and I ended up buying a sample bottle because it smelled so good and left my hair soft and silky. Somehow he made what probably should have been a rather boring trim into a fun hair experience. Thanks, Jimmy! I wasn't sure what to expect with Emily M., because as previously stated, I'm kind of a hair idiot. But she was fantastic! I showed her a few photos of styles that I liked and she was kind, but also realistic about what would or wouldn't work in my hair. She played around with a few different looks and ended up putting a beautiful fishtail braid in my hair. I have thin, mousey brown hair, but she was totally reassuring and helped my find a style that I think will work! I'm sad I can't take her with me to the event! Best of all, she didn't charge me for the probably 20 minute advice session. SO friendly! If I ever have an event I need to go to in Gainesville, I will definitely be back in her chair :) Also, while it might not be important to some folks, the ambiance at Mode Salon Spa East is just lovely. It's getting really hard to even THINK about going anywhere else. I went there today because I've been on the lookout for a ghd straightening iron and met with Lonie. The man knows everything there is to know about hair! He also knows tons about ghd and took the time to explain the history of the company and how the straightening iron works. The straightening is pretty easy but I have a difficult time with using the iron to make curls. So, when Lonie sat me down and showed me how to do it, I was totally impressed. Not only did he show me how to do the curls, he made me do them and guided me throughout the entire process. Lonie is the BEST! The salon is in an older Victorian style home but they did such an amazing job transforming it into a fictional, spacious salon with not only an area for hair cutting/dying but it's own massage room and a spa. Being a naturalista it's SO hard finding stylists who know how to properly deal with my hair. Most people want to straighten my hair and then cut it, and by doing that they fry my hair and it messes up my curl pattern. My hair stylist Brittaney does wonders to my hair. I seriously love everything about this place. I even dragged my roommate in this past weekend and now she's in love. Keep up the good work guys! read more

I have never been to a Davines salon (Brands/salons I normally use and are similar to: Aveda, Prives), but after experiencing their products I will be seeking them out in the future. I had just moved to town and needed my highlights roots done ASAP. I figured I'd have to wait a couple weeks to get in to see anyone; however, I called and was able to get an appointment the next week. I saw Shelby for a partial highlight & trim. I got a neck massage before she started working on my hair (what a nice bonus!). She was sweet and easy to talk to. I was glad that when she had a question about my toner, she didn't just go ahead and guess, she asked who I assume was the owner who then took a look and pointed her in the right direction. My hair looked as I expected & hoped for. Jessica did my eyebrow wax, and did an excellent job. The salon is gorgeous and was easy to find for a newbie to town. The only thing that I was a little disappointed in was the receptionist when I was checking out. I was still in the midst of talking to Shelby, asking a question about a product, and the girl seemed confused about what I was wanting to do and did not ask if I wanted to schedule another appointment (which I did). I didn't realize it until I left, and it's not a big deal at all-- it was just one of the first times I wanted to go ahead and book an appointment rather than tell them "Oh, I'll just call." Making another appointment was easy, I just called later that day and set it up. Reasonably priced for services. This shop has NO talent left in it!!!! I waited until I calmed down to write this, I don't think I am going to calm, My hair Is RUINED and the owner Lonnie Carpenter, will NOT return my phone calls, I have left 2 messages. I asked Lonnie, who has been doing my hair on and off for 20 years, I asked Lonnie to help my hair transition to Gray, holy MESSED up! I ended up with blotchy spots of white and yellow and orange!!! He charged me a bunch, over $500.00$ to totally mess up my hair! it was shoulder length but because of Lonnie and his asst Alex I received a chemical cut!! yes my hair is so fried it broke off!! I don't want to see this happen to anyone else. I hated to leave this review I thought Lonnie Carpenter was a good stylist and a friend. I have since learned this is a common thing at this salon, they cover up their mistakes, and ignore customers who complain. After hearing so many good things about Mode I decided to come in and have my highlights done. I have been getting blonde highlights in my hair for years at home and have never had issues. Alex at Mode managed to give me simultaneously the most expensive yet worst highlights of my life. They were yellow, patchy, not blended, and damaging. Worst yet is that when I came in to have him try and fix his mistake he was rude, condescending, and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. He proceeded to not fix my hair that he had ruined. I had to come in for a third time (and see a different stylist because Alex was so rude that I was uncomfortable seeing him) and the only way to fix the blending errors was to add brown into my hair. It's as if I paid $300 for highlights to get my hair darker and more damaged than when I came in. I don't have a problem paying for quality, but nothing about this experience was quality.
