Tina is super talented and experienced, and she really listens to what I'm wanting and delivers it. She is very kind and friendly, and I really like that she explains her process, offers advice on how to maintain your haircut, and checks multiple times to make sure you're happy with what she is doing. I have had some bad experiences with other hairdressers cutting my hair too short or not listening to what I wanted, but here I always leave feeling super satisfied with the results. First off, as a more or less broke college student, I don't normally go to real hair salons so I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing yet affordable a shampoo and cut here was. I didn't make an appointment but was immediately taken up by April who was super warm and easy to talk to, and who did a fantastic job bringing my hair up from shoulder-length to a super stylish pixie cut. She was able to at last free me of my awkward half-grown-out undercut, and asked my opinion on the lengths and styles of different parts of my hair throughout the cut to ensure I'd be happy with the final outcome. She was also extremely conscientious of one of my newer ear piercings and took care not to damage it. Since my cut was a pretty drastic one, April even offered for me to come back for any minor touch ups I may want after settling in with the new look for a couple days The salon itself is not super schnazzy or anything, which I personally really like bc you immediately feel comfortable and at home there. I guess if you're looking for a more traditional "salon experience" you may be better off somewhere else, but to me the environment at Total Image is much more relaxed and enjoyable than most other places I've been. Came in for my scheduled appointment, and saw 6 people inside, only one with a mask. Especially in a job where you're in close contact with a variety of people all day, I was shocked to see the employees and owner not wearing a mask. Right before the holidays, while many people will be finally visiting with older families members. I was very upset to see this. Otherwise, I've had to get more than one cut and one color re-done because they weren't what I asked for. I've overlooked that in the past but after seeing the value placed on public health, I'm not comfortable going back, for sanitary reasons. read more

I was a little hesitant to go here because of some of the reviews but I had a great experience. I showed Tina a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like and she cut it exactly like the picture. She was very nice and really seemed to know what she was doing. I like that she talked me through every step of the haircut. When it was finished she even offered to cut it again later for free if I decided it wasn't right when I got home. I definitely recommend for an nice inexpensive haircut! read more

I was attracted to this salon because of the affordable prices. I went in to get full highlights done. I stressed that I wanted to be a lot blonder. My roots were extremely dark; practically half of my hair was dark brown and the other half blonde. When my hairstylist was finished coloring my hair, I was shocked because I struggled to even notice a difference. I was charged upwards of $200 for the foils and haircut. She cut one inch off of my hair. After 6 weeks, my hair looked darker than when I came into the salon. I tried my best to find products to maintain what little color I had. I understand my hair is long, but the highlights should've at least been more noticeable for that price... With that all of that being said, the staff here is absolutely wonderful. I really have no words for this salon. This salon has made my worst nightmare come true. I came in asking for a trim and layers and i left with a botched mullet. I barely have any hair left -- a few strands. everything else is cut to my nose basically. This has been nothing short of traumatizing. I am now forced to pay 1,000 dollars out of pocket to get extensions to fix this mistake. Worst of all, the owner refused to even apologize. Refused to show any sympathy or willingness to help. All she did was offer to cut it more. She refused to compensate me for the damages. I just have never ever come across a more unprofessional location. Please, save yourself. In my opinion this is not the best place to get your hair cut in Gainesville. The quality of hair cut I received was something I expected to have gotten from a Great Clips. The establishment is a bit run down and my $35 shampoo, trim, and blowout took all of 20 minutes. This might sound good to you, but when I got home my ends were all different lengths. I had to trim it myself to get it to be the same length. All in all, I probably won't be returning to this salon. read more

I completely understood this and wanted to make an appointment. However, they were extremely rude when they told me this and turned away from me like I didn't exist. And, she said if I mess with it at home and decide I don't like the length, I can come back and she will trim it again for free! Miles ahead of the awful chain hair places I have been to, and her prices were only slightly higher than theirs. As an anonymous customer who came in last week, I was pretty disappointed with the environment of this place. Starting when I walked in, someone (who I may assume could be the boss/manager of it) was walking BAREFOOT the entire time I was there. And as soon as she stood next to me, a weird aroma started to make me gag a little bit. Then, on top of that, an employee gave me the wrong shade of highlights that I wanted. After so many attempts I just gave up. She didn't apologize after I called her out on it and had to still PAY FULL PRICE! I would not recommend anyone go here, the owner walks around barefoot, is always high, and she STEALS her stylists hard earned tips.

Would give zero stars if I could. For over 5 years I've told myself that I'd never go back to a great clips but if it were to come between this place, I'd choose great clips in a heartbeat. I'd even trust a 10 year old more than anyone working at this salon. I've been getting highlights & lowlights done for many many years & I have Never been more relaxed or had an easier time or treated more gently than I did at Total Image. April did a PERFECT job Coloring my long hair as well as trimming it. I Had lots of gray but April did a fantastic job with my thin & brittle hair & it's now undetectable! I took my 3-year old daughter to get her hair cut by Tina. She went above and beyond to make it special. She put my daughter's curls in an envelope marked with the occasion, gave her a princess crown and slinky for behaving so well, and gave her a ribbon saying "First Haircut Award." My daughter went into the salon scared and left with a giant smile on her face and asking when she could get her haircut again. First time paying for a haircut in two years after a total shave-down. Needless to say, my hair was in a weird place. I called in and was able to get an appointment the day of with Tina. What this salon may lack in appearance certainly makes up for with knowledge and skill. This may sound odd, but I appreciate that she was willing to challenge me on my opinions and what I thought I wanted from my hair. I would never walk into this shop as it is old and not fancy at all. but...with the consistent 5 star reviews on Yelp I ventured in...a snowbird hoping to get a decent cut and color that would not totally destroy my hair. I have never seen anyone cut like Tina cuts hair. I was curious...same with her hair color. She mixed solution in a way I have not seen...but exactly how I cook. The results were stunning.
