Like some of the other reviews I was a bit hesitant to try, but had the BEST apptmt and experience with Katie!! I just moved to Gainesville and did the reviews of salons like many of us do and I kept coming back to Total Images Salon as my pick. So I called and spoke with Tina who schededuled a apptmt for me with Katie .....I AM SO GLAD I DID!! My apptmt was today and I had a GREAT color, cut and blow-dry. From the start Katie and I talked about what I was looking for and I showed her few pictures of cuts I liked. I have neck length fine hair and Katie was very easy to talk to and pleasant, she listened but also gave me some other ideas on how to get the cut I wanted..... she really made me feel comfortable! Tina and Gail, some of the other stylists that were working with customers also while I was there, I could tell that they had good customer relationships and were repeat customeres - they were happy with their cuts. All of the staff was so very easy to talk to and it was just very friendly, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Before leaving today, I set up my next return apptmt with Katie and have a permanent home with her and Total Images! When my stylist left town, I was very nervous of trying to find a new place. I asked around and there were many recommendations but I decided to give Total Image Salon a try, because it had wonderful reviews on Yelp and the price range was reasonable. I have to say that I am so glad I did and will be going back there for my hair from now on. I highly recommend Tina and her other associates. They are very talented, great listeners and care about making sure their customers are completely satisfied. I got a pretty drastic cut recently by Tina, which I loved, but when I came back home and tried to style it by myself at home, I realized I couldn't quite get it the way Tina styled it for me after the cut. I called her back after 3 days of trying to style it myself and decided that I needed it to be cut a bit shorter and add texture to my hair. She gladly scheduled me in as soon as she could (she is great, so she's booked most of the time!) and got my hair the way I wanted. That kind of customer service is difficult to find. I have also had my hair cut by Kara, and she was also wonderful. If you are debating whether to try out Total Image Salon, I highly recommend that you do! read more

I was visiting my best friend in Gainesvilles and chose this place as it was number one in Yelp. I already read about what to expect at the location (may smell like cigarettes, outside does not look like the typical hair salon) so I wasn't surprise. I decided to take a chance as they got really good review on Yelp. I had called in and asked beforehand if they were familiar with Asian hair and how I wanted a drastic bob/A-line. The lady on the phone says they were familiar with it. I had an appointment with Gail. She had really good review on Yelp. My experience with Gail was not the greatest. She seemed annoyed with me whenever I asked for a certain way. She was not comfortable with the haircut I wanted. She didn't even listen to me when I stated that I parted my hair on the side instead of the middle. Unless you are a regular customer of hers or a guy just wanting a trim, I do NOT recommend her. She is only comfortable with simple cut, not really drastic cut (I wanted a steep A-line/bob type). Tina, however, stepped in and was very kind and took over. She knew right away where I parted my hair without asking and was willing to work with the style I wanted. read more

I am so glad I went to Total Image! I made an appointment with Tina after reading all the lovely reviews, and I was extremely happy with my experience! I've only ever gotten my hair trimmed at chain hair salon-type places (like Hair Cuttery), but I wanted to get a completely different style -- I got a good 6 inches cut off, I think. Tina was so friendly and welcoming when I arrived for my appointment and it was clear she knew exactly what she was doing!!! I showed her some images of hairstyles I liked on celebrities and she knew what to do immediately after glancing at the images. I trusted her to do whatever she felt would look good on me and I'm so happy with the results. I've been getting compliments all day and my friends told me you can tell the haircut looks amazing and professionally done. Tina explained what she was doing as she cut my hair, gave me great styling advice and told me plenty of ways to wear this new hairstyle. You cannot beat the experience nor the price. I recommend Total Image Salon to everyone! I will DEFINITELY be going back. :) read more

I just got the worse hair cut from Cortney she choose to focus on a picture of a haircut that my husband shared. I had pictures of that haircut it was a good cut but too short. I had mentioned when I first walked in that I need it cut to the top of my shoulders. I did not realize that she focused on what she saw not what I was telling her. Cut even shorter than the photo pictures. It is a very unflattering length for me. This hair cut was for a Reunion in five weeks and now I do not want to attended the reunion. This cut will not grow out well either. She said rolling the hair under was an undercut. I have had undercuts what she did was a quick and dirty blunt cut that never grows out well for me. I will only get a half inch growth in five weeks. Hair does not usually grow an inch in a month as Cortney tried to convince me that it did. I know better that that only had Half an inch of new growth monthly when I was dying my hair. Not only that she engaged in a distracted conversation with another person instead of focusing on me her customer. read more

I was very impressed with Total Image Salon. I read that this place was reasonably priced and I saw rave reviews about Tina. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called but Tina was booked. Debra was the stylist who cut and highlighted my hair instead. She was awesome!! I had wanted very natural looking highlights but that would make a noticeable difference. Debra immediately knew what I wanted- Sun kissed, she called it. A similar request for natural highlights to a different stylist resulted in paying twice as much for a shade that I could barely see the difference of. Since I've gotten my hair highlighted, I've received numerous compliments from coworkers and friends noticing my hair. Debra got it exactly right. She really paid attention to detail and spent a lot of time with me making sure my hair looked great. I was just getting a trim, but the haircut Debra gave me was also excellent. I would definitely recommend Total Image Salon. Its not a fancy location, but the stylists are wonderful! read more

Everyone knows the growing out process is difficult and we sometimes believe your hair either has to look good, or it has to grow and Tina has proven me wrong. I just moved to Gainesville and I'm very lucky I found Total Image Salon. Tina listened to all of my concerns and gave me her honest opinion but never persuaded me to have my hair cut in anyway other than what I decided on. She took my face shape and features in account and told me everything she was doing throughout the entire time, as well as asked for my permission and gave me options at certain steps. Not only did she cut my hair exactly the way I asked, it looks great, and she even taught me ways to manage my hair in a way that takes virtually no time and she always did everything with keeping the possible upkeep in mind. The price is so low compared to the quality of work that was done (and I'm on a student budget). So friendly and knowledgable, I highly recommend. Tina was amazing. She did my hair a week ago and I remembered to review because she gave phenomenal service. I asked her for advice on my hair and she suggested to put low lights and highlights in my hair. I adore the color combination. She was courteous enough to go through every step of doing my hair and explain what she was doing, which is something I had never experienced at a salon. Also, I told her I was sleepy and she offered me a starbucks expresso drink (the ones that are sold at gas stations). After her great service and awesome haircut/color/treatment/blow dry-flat iron and two great products I wanted to purchase (a leave in conditioner and a oil shampoo) I expected to pay well over $140- $160 for everything ...Instead i paid $104 for everything!! I moved to tampa that same day..But i will be back to get my hair done by her! read more

The building is very deceiving form the outside. I was definitely skeptical before walking in, but I trusted the 5-star reviews and went in for my appointment with Katie. My hair is very long and very thin, and it was totally dry and dead at the bottom because I always planned on getting it cut back home during the summer. I came in with a desperate mess to work with, and Katie was amazinggg with it! Her work seemed totally effortless and she shampooed, cut, shaped, blow dried and straightened my hair! By the time I was finished my hair was 100x healthier, fuller, softer and more shaped. When I went to pay, she charged me $25! She did a better job than something I normally would pay around $70 for. I was very happy with the work and left her a generous tip. I will definitely be returning. read more

I am in love! I just left my 1st appointment with Tina and I'm so happy! She was ready for me the moment I walked in; zero wait time! I have long, thin hair and was asking for an ombré. She gave me her honest opinion on that look for me & was very sweet to let me know she would do anything I ask. We did a high and low light to help my thin hair have depth & dimension. She gave me the perfect "no-trim trim" (if you know what I mean) & wouldn't even charge me for it. The blow dry was BEAUTIFUL! I left the salon with the style I walked in with but the color was better! She's down to earth, sweet, funny, and really treats you like family. Tina has been cutting my hair for years, and has always done an amazing job. She was booked (with good reason), and couldn't get to me until next week, but another stylist, Kara, was available. Since I needed my haircut for an event, I booked an appointment today with Kara. As soon as I walked in, she was immediately very friendly and listened to me as explained what I was looking for. She listened to me and I am very happy with my haircut. Now I have 2 stylists there that I can count on to cut my hair right, and chances are one will be able to accommodate my busy schedule. As other reviews say, the outside of the building isn't the most attractive place to get your hair cut, but the people are friendly, and the service is AMAZING!!! read more

I never write reviews, but I just had to for this salon. What an AMAZING experience. April was probably the most talented hairdresser I have ever seen (and so sweet!) I came to her with a challenge... I had previously box died my hair black and wanted it lifted to a light brown. Every other hair dresser I had been to said it wouldn't lift. April spent hours working diligently on my hair, and what an AMAZING job she did. It is so beautiful. She did EXACTLY what I asked for and gave me highlights with a beautiful layered hair cut. She lifted the color beautifully without compromising the integrity of my hair. And on top of that, the prices are super affordable. I would TOTALLY recommend this salon. I have a straight and thick hair that most hair stylists would find very difficult to work with. That is a reason why to look stylish is not an easy task. Just right haircut can make you look prettier, younger, more professional or just feel better. I've been going to different salons to find the best stylist for me, and I am very happy that now I now who can make a difference in my outlook. This salon is amazing. I came from a different state and this was the first salon I used in Gainesville. I have full plans to make this my go-to salon from now on. I unfortunately don't remember the name of my stylist, but she was amazing as well. I didn't know exactly what I wanted for my hair, just that I wanted it shorter and layered, and she made magic with it. She listened to everything I wanted and made it better than I could have expected. After she was done and let me look in the mirror, she even listened when I said I wanted it even shorter and re-did the length and some of the layers. Edit: I'm deleting my old review. I went during the summer after seeing the good reviews on Yelp. My stylist was a new employee; she was friendly enough but I got a terrible bob haircut that was chunky and uneven. However, the owner personally contacted me to make sure I was happy with the cut since my hair was cut by a new employee. I ended up going there again and the owner, Tina, cut my hair and I loved it. I think it's actually one of the better cuts I've had. She understood my fears after having had a bad cut, and she gave suggestions on hair parting and styling that was flattering to my face shape. Tina was methodical and very competent in hair cutting and styling. I would go here again! read more

Just had a great experience at Total Image Salon! I just moved to Gainesville from NYC and decided to trust the yelp reviews. Tina gave me an amazing hair cut. She listened to what I wanted and explained what she was doing so that I would feel comfortable. It is clear that Tina is very knowledgable and knows a lot about technique and styling. She knows what causes bad hair cuts and, of course, what makes a good hair cut. She offered advice for ways I could change up my hair cut and style in the future, and I definitely plan on going back there for all of my hair cuts in the future. Based on the high reviews about the Total Image Salon, I decided to go there to have hair color and cut today. Kara waited for me at the appointment. Because I am an Asian, I doubted how Kara works my thick and black hair. She immediately understand what I want and started. After rinsing my hair, both Kara and I was not satisfied. However, she kept to work to fix my hair color twice. Finally, we found a right and beautiful color. Although I spent all my Saturday afternoon, I have an impression that she really takes care of my hair and my satisfaction. Tina at Total Image Salon is the very best in Gainesville for natural looking blond color, subtle blond highlights or a smashing, light summer blond look! She is also an expert with premium, precision cuts. She keeps my long but fine hair in great condition with her quality products and expert know how. While I was under the dryer, I have seen several other lady's seeking color repair or re cuts from other stylists.... and Tina literally works magic! Coolest salon I've ever been to with highly skilled stylists. Give this place a try - I found them on yelp and was quite skeptical upon arrival, but this turned out to be one of THE coolest experiences I've ever had during a hair cut. The stylists are both talented and sincerely interested in doing what is best for your hair and budget. No heavy up selling of product. That said, I walked out w 4 bottles of product because they definitely carry a superior brand. I watched another person get her hair cut as well and WOW, what an awesome transformation.
