Bleach ombre. Double process required for my virgin black hair. Curled afterwards.
    Liz W.

My end goal is to dye my hair purple, and I went to Artistic Cuts to bleach my hair. I asked for an ombre balayage and underwent a double process. After MANY foils, I finished in four hours. The ladies are nice, and I can't complain too much because of the price, but I had mixed feelings about the result. I just wish there was more communication. I don't spend more than $30 on my hair often, so when I do, I am a bit of a perfectionist. It's the cheapest place in town, especially if you have black hair and you're looking to bleach it. I called in to, and Sue said it would be $90 total. Every other place in town would have charged me $60-75 for EACH process, quite possibly more considering that my hair is thick and layered. I booked an appointment and it started on time. I always corresponded with Sue but I ended up being taken care of by the other stylist (didn't catch her name) because Sue was in the middle of a haircut. To the best of my knowledge, there are only two stylists at the salon. The process went about fine, and my stylist was very nice. As for the result, I found it to be a little uneven. My right side seemed warmer than the left. A little section in the back at the top was missing as well. I did get the streaky/skunky effect I wanted in the end, and it was going to be covered with dark purple anyway. There were little moments that made me uneasy. Sue came over twice in between her appointments, and they would mumble in Vietnamese. Sue seemed to be critiquing, and I would hear her say "no, no, no." I couldn't tell if anything was wrong and was too nervous to find out. They used a purple shampoo to counteract the brassiness in my hair. I asked if I needed to tone more at home, but they said that the shampoo was enough. I'm pretty sure they were wrong about that, and I should've continued using a purple shampoo or just used a toner. My hair turned brassy, and I had to tone it before dying my hair purple. My stylist curled it without me asking for it, so I thought it would be complimentary. I even objected it, but she insisted (and it looked REALLY good curled). But when Sue rang me up, I was charged for it. Sue does all the pricing it seems, so be conscious of that if you don't want any additional charges. Overall, an okay experience. I just wonder what would've happened if Sue had done my hair instead.

The majority of whom acknowledged that my hair was -- thin, aging, not much can be done, but we'll try. Sometimes the results were good, sometimes okay, and sometimes . . . Well, we won't talk about that. Arriving in Gainesville I tried five recommended stylists and was increasingly disappointed. Then . . . Ta da! . . . A friend suggested I seek out Bryan. This five-star review is the result. Bryan's professional salon is very private (indeed, you must follow directions fairly closely to find it), nestled into a quiet Duckpond neighborhood. Bryan himself is very welcoming, and the salon itself is small but comfortable, with everything he needs close at hand. Bryan's skill with cutting, including, yes, thin and increasingly aging hair, is amazing. In fact, my hair doesn't even LOOK as thin any more - no spots where my essential pink-ness shines through. And when I despaired over the shade of grey life is handing me, while at the same time choosing not to go for full-fledged color, Bryan suggested "brightening," a semi-magical process including foils, that lifts in a very natural way without setting me up for the whole rotation of color maintenance. I know that Bryan specializes in hair replacement, though I haven't needed those services (yet). But his high level of training is evident in the framed certificates on display - if / when I do need hair replacement, I will go to Bryan without hesitation. BTW, Bryan is amazingly knowledgeable about a wide range of topics that have nothing to do with hair, and conversation during the appointment is never boring. As an introvert, though, I should add that I've noticed that when I prefer to sit quietly, Bryan senses this, and the silence is companionable, never awkward. Do I need to mention that I have become a Bryan Dean Fan?

Bryan took the time to go over what he was going to use on my hair and all the extra precautions he would take for me. With all those precautions in place I had Bryan color my hair and so glad I did. Fast forward to now..6 years later. I've always wanted extensions since my hair became thinner due to medical condition and hormones. A new hair extension product came out...Malia flutter luxe. The Malia flutter luxe is such a quick application time. Bryan recd training on these new extensions and provided me with a lot of info on them. I had Bryan do these extensions to my hair a couple weeks ago and I love them. I have asked him a million and one questions and he has been so patient. I would never go to anyone else. If you are new to the hair extension world. .the Malia extensions are worth it.
