Today is my second time here. I wanted to cut my hair short and a bit of a layer. I told the lady who cut my hair. She barely listened and did whatever the way she wanted but in the end, my hair was still the same length. I scheduled on the website 28$ for regular cuts, shampoo, and blow dry. The first time I went to get a hair cut. I told the girl that the sides of my hair were way uneven but she assured me that I was mistaken. I thought that maybe she was right and it only "appeared" to be uneven due to my side part. However, after spending an hour calling around 20+ salons in Gainesville, this was the only place that had same day availability. Plus, all I wanted was a trim and light layers. All in all, I was happily surprised with my experience here. My stylist, I believe her name was Kayla, was very sweet and attentive. She cut my hair to the perfect length and my layers came out smooth and even. I got my hair washed, cut, AND blow dried all for $32, which rounded up to $40 after I included a 20% tip. Bottom line: my stylist (Jennifer A., I believe) reeked of cigarettes to the point that I genuinely had trouble breathing during my haircut/wash. The salon seemed clean and comfortable, and other clients seemed to be having good experiences. My stylist was told that I had arrived a few minutes early, but after checking the computer, left out the back for a little while. When she called me to my seat, I showed her several pictures and she started the cut. While sitting right next to her, I started to smell cigarette smoke. I don't mean "oh, I could smell that she was a smoker" but rather "she had just returned from a smoke break and may have been carrying lit cigarettes in her pockets". At first, I thought I could just kind of try not to breathe as much when she was right next to my face and that it wouldn't be a big deal. However, the smell was so strong and did not abate whatsoever throughout the 30-45 minute experience. By the time I started having trouble breathing, I felt uncomfortable asking for a different stylist because I didn't want to wind up with a ruined haircut. Regarding the haircut itself, was it exactly what I showed her four different photos of? No. Was it an improvement over what I had before? Yes. My main issue with the cut itself was just that it was rather shorter than what I had asked for, but it will grow out in a few weeks and I'm not the kind of person to be that upset about a bad cut - I can always just shave my head. If the haircut was PERFECT, I could maybe give 2-3 stars as a review. However, anyone with asthma or difficulty breathing at baseline would NOT make it through a cut with this stylist. Cigarette smoking is a personal choice, and absolutely an addiction. I'm not saying Jen A. is a bad person for smoking cigarettes. In some professions, it may be no big deal. In hair cutting, you are in VERY close proximity to your clients. Children and older adults, be wary. Perhaps if you are a smoker yourself, you won't have any issues/concerns. read more

He has so many great hair tips and spends a lot of time on you and explains what he's doing. He told me that he refuses to cut a client's hair in 10 mins and that it's important to spend time on hair to make it "beautiful" and he would rather cancel an appointment if the client doesn't have that much time. DO NOT GO HERE TO FULFILL YOUR IMPULSIVE URGE TO CHANGE YOUR HAIRSTYLE. Don't do it!!! Just don't! I woke up one morning and said, "you know what? Today I want more highlights" I went to hair cuttery, asked for the Touch of Lights package ($75) expecting to pay around $85 since my hair is a little long. I walked out with fire orange stripes, and $105 poorer. She charged me for a "color melt" that she failed to tell me about until it was time to pay. Wtf is that? Toner? I don't even know She spent 3 hours on my partial highlights. Three hours! At one point I was excited because she seemed to be taking her time. But now I realize she just has no idea wtf she was doing. NOT TO MENTION, she kept me from looking at the mirror for a "surprise effect". Yep I was really surprised. I specifically asked for natural, ashy highlights, similar to the ones that were already grown out at my ends. I said that I wanted to remove the gold out of my hair to make it more ashy. After applying the bleach, she let me sit in the chair for approx 15 minutes. Then once she took my foils out she goes "wow your hair turned real blonde" lolz but of course I DIDNT GET TO SEE THE HAWT MESS. And THENNNNNNNN SHE USED A RED TONER!!!! Red!! Lawd I might not be salon educated but I do know something called the color wheel, and anyone should know that if you want to get rid of oranges, you have to cancel it out with a cool blue or purple. AHHHHHH Long story short, plz do your hair a favor. Don't come here unless you want to be disappointed. Not to mention the hidden tacks onto my bill. I should have fought that. But I was so reluctant to get home and YouTube "how to fix brassy highlights" that I just paid and vowed to never come back. I am not local and needed someone to cut two boys hair while in town. I called a few other places that were unable to get us in but the ladies here said they'd squeeze us in between appointments. We walked in and were greeted by three people. The ladies were so nice here and welcoming. I have a 2 year old and an 11 year old. Both boys were treated so nice by all the ladies. My two year old was having an off day and they were so understanding and accommodating. I loved how they worked together to help me so he was able to get a cut. I live over an hour away and now we might just be driving over whenever we need to get their haircut. This was one of the easiest, quickest, most pleasant haircuts we've had yet. My boyfriend went in with very long hair, past his shoulders. He likes his length, just wanted a little off and out of his eyes. He walked out with practically a buzz cut with a poof ball on top. He showed his stylist, an older lady, a picture that she said was not compatible with his hair type despite the fact that the man in the picture looked to have exactly the same type of hair as my boyfriend. He asked her what would look good if she couldn't do the picture and she just said "idk". She washed his hair twice, was very harsh with pulling his hair, and didn't really ask him anything before taking off like 6+ inches. He tried to be polite and start conversations with her but she ignored him and was instead talking to her next hair appointment. We just wish she would have said that she didn't know how to do longer men's hair, because we would have understood and gone somewhere else/found something else that was more along the lines of what he wanted. He's not one to complain, so he just left and gave her a $6 tip on a $26 cut that he hates to which she replied "oh ok" with an attitude. BEWARE! I didn't want to write a review until I gave this place a third try. My 1st visit was a walk in. I am African American with virgin 4C hair. Tanisha did my hair; wash, deep condition, and soft blow out. I was very pleased. 2nd visit, I made an appointment and told the person on the phone I am AA with virgin 4C hair. I was given Reynada (or something like that.) WORST PERSON EVER. Just because a person is black does not mean they know how to work on black hair. She washed my hair, did the condition, and started to blow dry my hair. She proceeded to make a scene in front of the other stylists and customers/clients by saying that my hair was in such bad shape, it is uneven, needs to be cut, etc. Then starts the dramatic acting, "I CANT DO ANYTHING WITH THIS... I MEAN LOOK AT THIS. I CANT EVEN RUN THE PICK (on the blow dryer) THROUGH YOUR HAIR WITHOUT IT FALLING OFF!! UGH, IT FELL OFF... (she bends over and picks it up and puts it back on) UGH, IT FELL OFF AGAIN. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO! *sucks teeth*" She asks the guy next to me, who is working on a client, what should she do, he gives her a suggestion and then here comes the drama again, "UGH, ITS NOT WORKING, THE PICK JUST KEEPS FALLING OFF! YOUR ENDS ARE HORRIBLE AND NEED TO BE CUT." I explained to her that I just had my hairs cut. So I left there and went to another beautician who works with natural hair and said THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY HAIR!! Six weeks later, I called to make another appointment (I don't live in Gainesville,) and they suggested sister dramatic again and I told them ABSOLUTELY NOT. SHE EMBARRASSED ME WHEN I WAS THERE LAST TIME AND I DID NOT WANT HER TO TOUCH ME. I will set her straight if she comes to me. This time they paired me with Kayla and she had no problems doing my hair. She even said she enjoys working with my type (4C virgin hair.) So 2 out of 3 visits were good, but I would suggest that Ms. Drama get some training on being personable and warm. I don't even know where to start about my experience today. It was just awful. First and foremost I went in for one color and a cut. It took FOUR hours. FOUR HOURS. Secondly, I asked for an auburn color hair, mostly brown with some red, my hair came out fire engine red. It looks terrible. And I have no confidence in my hairstylist as she had to ask 2 other stylists how to mix my color. I should have left right then and there, but I didn't. And after she put color in my hair, she literally goes "I'm going to Publix to get lunch-I'll be back." So she put color in my hair and then just left. My "package" also included a cut and a blow dry. However, I was there for so long and getting pretty frustrated at this point that I just asked her to trim it until it was healthy again. She cut the hair so unevenly that the back is way shorter than the front. I think she began to rush because her other clients were waiting for her at this point. And she only half dried my hair. All this for 187 dollars later. Highly disappointed to say the least. I would not recommend this place to anyone. In fact I would tell you to RUN. read more

After hearing about Minh from not only Yelp, but also a friend as "the only hair stylist I use now" and in dire need of a haircut, I decided to try the place out. Minh definitely knows what he is doing. The moment he sat me down, he commented on my last hair stylist (who I knew wasn't good) and how about she only touched up the top layer and did nothing for the bottom. The advice he provided was also soundly based. For instance, I originally considered a short cut, but I was worried about the thickness of my hair and having it "poof" out. He told me that due to the volume it definitely would not be a good idea, unless I had an hour of my day (30 minutes at best) to flatten my hair. I appreciated the insight because I definitely do not have that time to spare. Ended up having a wash, treatment, 4" cut off", and blow drying, which cost $48+tip [cost extra because I have very thick long hair and the treatment]. Overall, it took an hour from walking in the door to leaving. I wasn't really satisfied when I walked out the door, but my boyfriend did like it. Now, a week later, I can say that I'm definitely pleased with the way it turned out. It falls nicely, flatters my face, and is so much lighter and airy! He's not the best stylist I've had, but he's definitely one of the better, so I would recommend him if you are in the Gainesville area! read more

I wanted Minh, but apparently it was his day off. So I did the stupid thing and took the next available stylist. She was professional, but standoffish in a not-cool way. It was as if she really didn't want to be there and while most of us feel that way at work at times, when you're in the customer service industry, it's better to keep those feelings masked. She talked me into a protein treatment for my hair, which did make it feel soft, but no softer than my hair normally feels. She layered it and was berated nearly the whole time by another male stylist who was just sitting around watching. She took off way more than I had asked. When you say "I'd really only like a trim with some additional layers thrown on top" you shouldn't have 7" of hair plop down on the ground. I told my stylist what I was ideally wanting (blonder highlights on my natural base color, long layers and around shoulder length as my hair was extremely long and unhealthy).
