Update: I am really impressed with how quick upper management reached out to me about my negative experience and how much they seemed to care. The owner, Natasha reached out to me immediately after seeing my review to see how this could be resolved. Then the manager, Rilee contacted me the next day to further apologize for my experience and offered to fix my hair at no extra charge. She was so so nice and really made me feel heard and was just a pleasant person to talk to. While I don't love the length of my hair at the moment, she did everything she could to make me feel much better about the haircut. She was very meticulous and considerate. I made the drastic decision to cut off 6+ inches of my hair. Since I have very thick, very coarse, very textured hair, my friends suggested that I go to a "higher-end" salon (and by that, they meant NOT a Great Clips). After searching the internet for a few hours, I decided to go to Beach Break on my lunch break. The decor is very relaxing and matches the name of the establishment perfectly. The staff is laid back, friendly, and professional. With your reservation comes a free beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), which I unfortunately had to pass on since I was expected back at work. Jaimy was my stylist, and she was super cool! She made sure that she cut my hair exactly how I wanted it, and suggested ways for me to style it post-cut. BOTCHED TWICE!! NO REFUND! DO NOT GO HERE! I went to this hair salon looking to recreate the look i've had for three years. I started communication with Kate eight weeks before, I showed her pictures of my previous hair, asking to recreate it, and she said she could do it and scheduled me for an appointment. When I came in Kate said she could totally do my hair even though my root was more grown out than she had anticipated. After turning it a brown color instead of my intended light grey balayage, she apologized and offered to re-do my hair with the owner the next day. Despite the fact that it was so different than what we had discussed and agreed upon, Kate told me it was policy for me to pay before it was fixed and they would fix it the next day with the owner's guidance, so I payed $315. When I showed up the next day, the owner was not there. Kate said the owner gave her guidance and she knew exactly how to fix it. Well... she did not. She BOTCHED my hair, turning it completely yellow. The front pieces of my hair FELL OUT in the front from the misuse of the treatment. As you can see, it's 50 shades of blonde. After two completely FAILED attempts, Kate and Jessica tried to blame it on me even though she had not asked me about my hair history before the attempt. The owner called me the next day, saying that they had audio and video tapes of me (where you can see how I was very courteous and communicative) and that the only way she could offer me a refund is if I came in again and she couldn't do anything about it. Seeing that the owner is the one who guided Kate for my completely botched second attempt, and feeling the hostility of not getting any sort of apology or compassion for my situation, I felt uncomfortable returning again and asked for a refund. The owner refused and began yelling at me over the phone for not being more mindful of HER situation that made her unable to come in for my hair fix (mind you, she did not try to reschedule with me since she couldn't be there). Overall, this place caused irreparable damage to my hair, and I will have to spend several hundreds fixing it. I will not be getting a refund. Moreover, the hostility, lack of compassion, and complete lack of professionalism has made my experience a terrible one. Please, do not go here. Do not take a gamble on your hair, because when things go wrong at Beach Break Salon, no matter how courteous and communicative you try to be, it will be completely blamed on you and you will not get your money back. UPDATE: Although the owner claims in the comment I did not answer every question honestly and truthfully, I most certainly did. I did NOT assure the stylist that my toner was permanent. In fact, I told her that I did NOT know, and offered to ask my previous stylist. Kate proceeded anyways. read more

I paid $300 for something that wasn't what I wanted, and that is why I have to rate it 2 stars. Katee is an absolute dream. I went in with an unclear image of what I wanted and she talked me through my goals to achieve the most beautiful, beachy blonde. She is so wonderful, easy to talk to, and wildly talented. The salon has a relaxed and carefree atmosphere, serving you wine or beer while you have your hair in foils. I am absolutely disgusted at the service I received today I had an appointment at 12:30 and the stylist sat me down I told her what I wanted, And she left to find a price. At first she gave me the price of $270 just to do my roots and tone my hair and i told her i wanted my whole hair highlighted and she gave me a rude look and said "we could do all of your hair for $460 but we wouldn't be doing it today". So i left. I wasn't about to pay $270 for half of my hair to be done. I have been getting my hair dyed for six years and I just moved to Gainesville recently and I have never experienced this poor of customer service before. And normally I wouldn't care about the price but for a full highlight NOT a balayage just a full highlight for $460 she's out of her mind. I don't even have long hair its up to my shoulders. I came in to get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed. It was a 2 pm appointment and I reached 5 minutes early. The person who was supposed to do the job got 15 min late as her previous appointment ran over. I was ok to wait a bit (these things happen). Then we sat at a high chair and I'm facing her! The wax wasn't warm so I offered to wait a few minutes till it get heated up. In the meantime she went off to do another haircut which took about 30 minutes. I ended up waiting for 45 minutes!!! Very disappointed. I was ok to wait 10 minutes while the wax heated but 30 minutes! That's not fair. The eyebrows were not shaped very nicely. There is a lot of stray hair and both are not even. There is a patch of hair missing over one eyebrow. It's so inconsistent. They make you sit up on a chair and are facing you. I don't know how they could have gotten a good result. The staff is nice and cordial and I had an overall good experience with my haircut appointment but the only reason I give 4 stars is because they really need to clean up their hairbrushes and combs. It's a very unsettling feeling to see a hairbrush full of hair being used on you. It's like going to a restaurant and eating in a plate that's not clean. Ok guys, Rylee is the bomb.com. I went in with hair I had dyed yellow for Halloween (not blonde, but actual honest to god sunshine yellow) that would NOT come out. At my first appointment, I showed her my end goal- a silver balyage. She was very up front about the process, cost before we ever got started so I knew how much and could adjust my services to fit my budget, and that it would take a couple times since I have incredibly thin hair that has a tendency to break right when bleached. My first appointment was four hours, and never once did I feel rushed, uncomfortable, or not heard- I was explained step by step as each thing was happening, why we tone, etc. this girl knows her stuff! I never felt pressured to buy products I couldn't afford, and she was willing to run through some generic brands with me that would be safe for my newly dyed hair. My second appointment, we actually got my silver hair! Again, Rylee was an absolute pleasure and her professionalism and personality can't be beat. I even went in after working a night shift (I'm a nurse) and for some of the treatments she allowed me to rest in the hair wash area rather than in the salon chairs so I could recline and nap. Had a really bad experience here. The pics I added shows the CUT I asked for versus what I walked out with. I came in with long hair & told my stylist she could use her creativity SO LONG THAT I KEEP MOST OR ALL OF MY LENGTH. Owner Natasha responded to my google reviews by telling me she listened to the audio of our visit (which is only recorded in one part of the salon) and determined that the 3-4 inches of lost length was MY fault (the audio also should have captured my saying at the end of the haircut ALSO that my stylist took off a lot more length than I wanted). She would not refund me the service charge (she only refunded the tip I left for my stylist which seemed sort of shady imo & kept the remaining money). She instead asked if I wanted to come in for a consultation for extensions. If this salon can't get a haircut right I absolutely can't trust them for extensions & won't spend any more money here. I'm still growing my hair out a month later from my experience here (will be for months to come), was told it was my fault, and lost length that I spent a long time growing that I LOVED. Even if the situation with my stylist WAS a misunderstanding, the response from the owner was tone deaf and rude honestly which speaks volumes about the way this place operates. read more

I love this salon!! I see the owner Tasha for all of my hair needs. She helped me achieve being a blonde (I'm a natural brunette) when other salons basically told me no, and it turned out so good, I received so many compliments. I just had to find the right salon with professionals who knew what they were doing. And THEN when I was ready to go dark again, she helped me achieve that as well, all the while keeping my hair healthy and looking great. I actually drive from Jacksonville to Gainesville to see her. This place took me and they tagged teamed in order to get me in. They colored it, washed, deep conditioned, and styled it. They didn't charge me! I was flabbergasted. Been going here for over a year now and I will never get my hair cut anywhere else! Dustin is amazing and was so insightful and helpful in the entire haircut process. For any guys thinking this "salon" is only for women, you are missing out! Wonderful massages, friendly staff, and a relaxing environment make this place THE place not only to get your hair cut, but to make friends and have an all-around great time. My girlfriend who has blond, curly hair always complained that no one in Gainesville could handle her hair. My experience with Beach Break wasn't bad, just frustrating, though they did their best to rectify the situation. I called about a week or so ahead of time to make an appointment to have my hair cut on my birthday, when I would be off work. I got an appointment easily, and the person on the phone was very kind. I didn't have a specific stylist I wanted to see, but I was told that my appointment was made with Dustin. When the day for my appointment came, I received a call an hour before my appointment from Dustin. He explained that he had an emergency appointment he had to fit in and that he had to cancel mine so that he could take care of this other appointment. He was very remorseful and provided other times that he could see me the following week. He also offered me a free haircut for the inconvenience and said that he would make sure we did something fantastic with my hair during our next appointment. I thought this was nice and accepted. When I went in for my rescheduled appointment, it turns out that Dustin had again scheduled another appointment with someone who is probably a regular client (judging by their conversation I could overhear). I was assigned to another girl, which was fine, but he did not acknowledge this or greet me or anything; I was just assigned to the other stylist. When the time came to pay, the new stylist had no idea that I was getting a free haircut, and she called Dustin over to deal with it. He didn't apologize or anything for the fact that he glossed over me yet again in favor of someone else, and told me to make sure I left a good tip for the stylist who cut my hair because my haircut was free. It was a little patronizing for him to offer me a free haircut and then continue to remind me that I received a free haircut, like it was somehow my fault or that I might not tip because of that. I'm an adult; I know how to tip and I know how salons work, and of course I tipped the stylist. It was just weird and annoying. The haircut I did receive was decent (not the best ever but perfectly adequate), and I liked that they offered me wine (though my cut hair kept falling into my glass!), so I don't want to say "don't go here" or suggest that the entire business is flawed, but I was just really put off by Dustin's scheduling mishaps. It seemed like he was wiling to sacrifice my simple haircut in favor of higher-paying customers. I understand that his long-time clients and higher-paying clients are probably much more important than a new client who just wants a haircut, but it really annoyed me that he kept shirking me off. If he didn't want to do a simple haircut, he could have just scheduled me with someone else from the start. read more

AVOID. I've been twice now and received horrible haircuts both times and from two different stylists. My boyfriend has been 2-3 times and will not be going back because no matter who he sees, he's always disappointed. I don't know if they're incapable of listening or if they just are unskilled, but regardless it's not worth the risk. They won't even let you come in to get your cut corrected for free unless you see the same stylist--if you see a different one, you have to pay. Which means walking around with a terrible cut until the same person who messed it up in the first place is available to see you. Terrible policies, over-priced, disappointing salon. **Edited in response to the business' reply - they only offered to refund the cost of my haircut and correct it for free with a different stylist after I left this review. This review was left in response to a phone conversation where they unequivocally stated that I would have to pay if I wanted to see someone else for a correction. I spent about two hours narrating and guiding my stylist.. But after a while I just settled. I was so unhappy. The back was uneven. i asked for a sharp edge.. There was no sharp edge. Her name is Laura and she, like Orie, is a very skilled, caring, and adept stylist who did a great job on my haircut. She was able to work me in with short notice and yet took ample time to listen to what I desired in my haircut and ensure I got a fresh, simple, attractive, short cut for summer. Great haircut, bad undercut: I came here to have a failed haircut from elsewhere solved, and my stylist did a (truly!) great job with my bangs and long, curly hair. However, I also asked for a pointed nape undercut. I okay'd the result at the time, because I could not get a straight view of the back of my head in the mirrors, only of one side or the other. The undercut has turned out to be very, very asymmetrical, and the edges of the undercut are not particularly straight either. I will visit a men's barber to see if it can be reshaped and saved, which means losing even more hair. I recommend this salon highly for regular haircuts, but I cannot recommend it for what I asked for in particular. I must reiterate that I am thoroughly pleased with the rest of the cut, but the undercut cannot be shown off until I get it fixed. read more

I went in twice this week. Once for a haircut and the second time around for my eyebrow wax. And I must say have had a really wonderful experience. The staff just makes you comfortable. Zoe did my haircut. She was nice and very informative. She not just suggested a hairstyle but also helped me with products that would suit it. I'm so glad with her recommendations. I would definitely be asking more people to ask for her when booking The second time I went in to get my eyebrow waxed and met the amazing and vibrant Annie. She knew exactly what she was doing. Being a person who was getting her eyebrows waxed for the first time I was a bit apprehensive about the results and effects and I must say much to my surprise I loved it. I'm never going back to threading after this and the credit goes to Annie for making me feel comfortable, taking my opinion and doing a fabulous job. Beach Break salon is absolutely amazing at what they do!!! Natasha and her team are like a big family and you can tell by how relaxing and chill the environment is. These people know what they are doing when it comes to making you look your absolute BEST!! I have never received more compliments on my hair until coming here. I used to live in Gainesville for school, but since moving I travel 4 plus hours for them to still do my hair. The only people I will ever let touch my hair and I have family in the business!! After 15 years in Gainesville I finally found a stylist that can totally understand what it is I want from various pictures, jargon, and sloppy hand gestures, LOL. Basically, Melanie gets it !
