What a laundromat! I've been to my fair share of crappy laundromats where not only do you have to wait forever for a machine, but they are so old that they hardly wash and if you intend on drying you'd better intend on spending your whole day there. The Missing Sock though is by far and away the best laundromat going around...so good in fact that it's like having your own in apartment machines (not quite, but close). With heaps of machines, high efficiency cycles and free Wi-Fi, time flies and your clothes are super clean and dry (the dry cycle takes only 30 minutes). The machine cards are also a hell of a lot better than lugging around quarters and needing to find change. The place even has Laundry Lockers in the back....after doing this a couple of times I actually changed up and forked out the extra few bucks for Laundry Locker....but if I had to do my washing myself, I'd be doing it at the Missing Sock. (As a quirky antidote, we actually found a random sock in out washing, and an old, nasty thong as well) read more

Disgusting. Dryers smell like diarrhea poo no matter which you use. Disappointing. It's been well over 2 months for a supposed 2 week (dryer) replacement fix. Costly. Even with a $5 reimbursement (broken machine), well over $10 spent on malfunctioning dryers. read more

Folks, doing your laundry has never been more comfortable nor productive as it will now be from The Missing Sock. Perhaps slightly more per load, however you're getting comfort and convenience in exchange. Parking is a bit of challenge--best if you can talk someone into a drop off routine. read more

I'm sorry, I've been coming here for over 2 years now and I have noticed a steep decline in the quality of service and care for this place... and I don't know if it's a symptom of it turning cold out, but my gosh this place seems to attract a lot of vagabond weirdo strange street people! It's sort of disconcerting. While this is a real bummer and scares me out of leaving my laundry unattended for fear my jeans will be sold on the streets for crack, the biggest issue I have with the place is the cleanliness. Sure, when you come from a regular Laundromat in SF run by dirtball cheap owners, it seems like a great place, but honestly, for what they charge ($2.75 a reg wash, $6.00 for a large one!) you should get more.. I'm talking about the floors, the tops of the machines, and most importantly, the insides of the machines! If you take a quick look inside, you will noticed they usually have a great deal of crap floating around.. hair, lint, etc.. who knows it's SF!.. the worst is the place where you put your soaps/fabric softener.. I can't tell you how many times I've filled up a washing machine, only to have to switch out my stuff because the soap insertion point is crusted over with god knows what... main complaint: for the price, should be spotless.. floor, top of machines, insides of machines, soap insertions... scary: the amount of homeless people that now call this place home.. one dude eats his lunch in there everyday.. it's awesome! maybe my clothes can smell like the tikka masala or better yet?.. Mad dog 20/20... owners, you need to step up the security and cleaning levels.. the San Francisco police are not going to monitor your business for you.. it has to be hard running a business in this city.. but you have to do what you can to make the place safer.... my suggestion... lock the front door to anyone that doesn't have the $4 laundry card you sell!.. that might keep out the riff - Raff!.. Bring back the quarters. When deposit cards are not refunded, it makes a simple wash cost at a premium. What is a reasonable amount of time for refund on deposit and why so complicated to have to mail in and then wait for ever to receive refund. read more

This is one of cleanest most modern coin operated spots and no need to look for change as they require a credit card or cash to put on a credit. The only problem I've run into sometimes the driers won't work after you have already put your money in. There is a homeless man in here and he is smoking. I would give it 5 starts but it's a bit on the expensive side. I come here because it's close to my house and they take PLASTIC! I hate digging for quarters to do laundry- this place rocks! It's conveniently located- there are plenty of spots to walk to on Chesnut while your clothes are drying- food, boutiques, bars (ha). It's always very clean and surprisingly "nice" for a laundromat. The laundry machines in our building were on the fritz for over a week, so we took over 10 loads to the brand new (opened on July 10th, 2008) Missing Sock Laundry on Chestnut. It was new, clean, had great machines (high efficiency washers!), staffed with very nice people (not sure if this is long term or just for the opening) and quick. One of our washing loads didn't "spin", but the staff quickly reimbursed our money for the wash and apologized profusely for the inconvenience. It is definitely a bit more expensive than the run-of-the-mill laundromat, but I'm willing to pay a little more for a nice and clean neighborhood place. read more

Who knew doing laundry could be so high-tech and oddly enough...an enjoyable experience! Maybe not so much the folding part. It's clean, quiet, and you actually don't have to keep feeding the dryer just to dry 1 load. It's very efficient and savings all-around. Unlike all the other laundry facilities in SF...I have not encountered a homeless person laundering their soiled clothes! That's a grim sight to experience and would turn me away for sure! Maybe the homeless folks haven't discovered the Missing Sock yet. I am curious as to how they have managed to keep them out. It's by far the swankies laundry facility I've ever seen and a lot cheaper than the dodgier laundry places around town. read more

okay, this is my new laundromat - i do, indeed, drive across town to come to the nice, big location in the marina. parking is a bit tough, but it's worth it - the place is clean, the machines are serviced/not broken. it's the greatest. as laundry goes, that is. and hi owner, i love that you are a person who exists, that you look on yelp and care what your customers think. awesome! read more

Days of trudging all around my neighborhood frequenting laundromats that just fall short of getting clothes clean, the missing sock is a breath of fresh air. The ambiance is fresh, modern, and most importantly clean! Machines are plentiful and incredibly efficient... the dryers will complete a load in just one 30-min cycle! Clean, nice facilities, fair pricing, spacious, free wifi, a place to sit. It is so nice to be able to leave the quarters at home too! Parking is a bit of cluster so we tag team...I drop a friend off with the laundry in front of the building and park where I can...usually a block to two away. When the laundry is done, I get the car and scoop up the friend and laundry. Easy and fast. read more

My building's washer and dryer are broken so I thought I would use this new place down the street from me. It is across the street from the Rainwater Laundromat that I have happily used several times. This place requires you to give a $3 deposit to use their card to put money on. I couldn't find any instructions on how to get this deposit back. Putting money on this card was frustrating as well as the posted instructions conflicted with the computers instructions. Oh and the screen to apply credit is set up so you have to literally bend down to see what is being displayed on the screen. After finally get money on the card I was surprised to see the washer units are quite small and don't allow you to get many clothes in there. So what is normally two washer units at my building and at other Laundromats took three here. You also can't select whether you want hot, cold, or warm water!!!!!! It is simply not an option. Each load cost $2.75. After the washer loads were finished I placed my clothes in the dryers that cost $1.50 a load. At the end of the 30 minute drying cycle my clothes were still wet. This is insane because the loads were quite small due to the small size of the washer. Rather then give this place another dime I went across the street to dry my clothes. So for ($2.75 x 3) + ($1.50 x 3) + 3 Deposit = $15.75 I got three loads of laundry washed but not dried. That is $5.25 a load when the place across the street does a much better job for only about $4 a load and without a deposit on some card. read more

The Good ... clean, all machines work, open till midnight (last load in by 11pm), safe/secure and I enjoy the idea of using a paycard to do your laundry. The Bad ... parking can be a little bit of problem (I'm an out of towner) but I managed to find a "secret" parking space (paid) a short distance away. I was recently in San Francisco for the first time. My husband and I arrived via sailboat from north of Seattle, Washington. After 7 days at sea you can imagine how excited we were to find a laundry mat and do laundry. :( While walking uptown I spotted the laundry mat sign from a block away and we decided to return the next morning (Sunday) to do our laundry. I worried on our walk from the marina that the laundry mat may not be open at 7 am on a Sunday morning. Yikes, I really didn't want to walk all the way back, about 5 blocks, lol! When we arrived and found it open, I was shocked! But, when we walked in, I was blown away by the cleanliness of the place. I thought maybe it was for tenants only or something. How could a laundry mat be so inviting!!!? I've been in many laundry mats over the years, but never one that I looked forward to returning too. Yes, the deposit on the card was a little shocking at first, but, it's refundable. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the customers are not the creepy type you're afraid to leave your dirty laundry with. :/ My husband and I walked to a local cafe down the street one block away and had a great breakfast and coffee while our clothes washed. When we returned to the boat just over an hour later with clean clothes, we bragged about how cool the laundry mat was! I will definitely return in the future! While there's a coin-operated laundromat on my street, I go out of my way to drive the extra blocks to go to Missing Sock. The card operated system is way more convenient than quarters, and the wash is actually cheaper than the less-nice location on my block(the sock is 2.75/wash as opposed to 3.75). Washers and dryers are always clean and the decor is cheerful and nice -- not a bad place to hang out for a couple hours. Clientele is also great; never uncomfortable with the other people at the missing sock, no matter what time of day/night I go. Happy to have found the Missing Sock and will continue to do my laundry here and tell all my Marina/Cow Hollow friends about it! read more

I'm so over this place! Their machines are constantly out of order. Today I counted 6 dryers with red "out of order" signs! This creates a huge back log with people just waiting around for a machine to open up. I've been coming here for years, but today was the last straw. They recently raised their prices, and they can't seem to keep their equipment maintained properly. read more

Hands-down the best laundromat in the area. Always clean, has free WiFi, and the owner is readily available via telephone if any issues arise. FOR INSTANCE: over the holidays I did a big load of laundry in one of the "big washers" and the machine broke down mid-wash. I had to transfer my clothes to another big washer and do the load all over again. $6 wasted, but whatever. I called the owner to let her know the machine was broken and she said "Well, it sounds like we owe you $6 for the cost of that load!" I was shocked! I gave her my mailing address and sure enough, several weeks later a check for $6 arrived in the mail. This place will have my business for life -- well, er, until I have my own washer/dryer. Overall I'm not too happy with the Missing Sock. Each time I visit, there are washers and dryers out of order (4 washers and 5 dryers tonight). There are also a few washers that don't complete the spin cycle so clothes still come out wet and most dryers don't dry completely during the time given. The only positive thing the Missing Sock provides is free wifi. At least you don't have to waste more data as you wait for your clothes to wash/dry again. I'd recommend that anyone looking for a laundromat go elsewhere. read more

I just returned from doing my laundry - yes, I drove all the way from Tiburon and it was worth it!! Nice new machines (couldn't believe they were high efficiency washers!) and clean clean clean! They even had the really big machines too if you wanted to wash blg blankets etc. If you have to do the laundromat, this is the way to go. read more

Efficient and effective machines get your clothes very clean (so you can wear several times before washing!). The washers are a bit pricey ($2.75) but can wash larger loads, and dryers have capacity for several wet loads and are only $1.50 for 30 minutes. Also it's open until midnight, which are better hours than some other laundries in the area. read more

Thanks for closing at least 20 minutes earlier, if not more, than your stated closing time. I appreciate you noticing the dryer near the front door with clothes in it which was loaded well before your "last wash" time, but choosing to value your personal time over that of your customers anyway. I look forward to sleeping on a bare mattress tonight and waking up at 6am to stop by again and pick up my laundry. I hope with the time you saved tonight you are able to reliably arrive for your posted opening time tomorrow, but I supposed if you'd like to sleep in I'll only have myself to blame for expecting your opening times to be any less arbitrary than your closing. read more
