Never would I consider "awesome" and "laundry" in the same sentence.... but the Missing Sock is a pretty awesome place if you are forced to do your own laundry... I always avoid using the shared single washer/dryer in my apt building..I am even willing to drive across the bay to do my laundry at mom and pops...I know..pathetic. One day, I noticed the Missing Sock on Chestnut. I was so glad to see a coin-less laundromat. The space is clean and equipped with plenty of commercial washers and dryers so there is no waiting on someone else and the wash time is minimal. I was able to do 3 loads of laundry in just a little over an hour. Laundry no longer has to be painful...yay! read more

This place is neat and tidy and has wi-fi that typically works. Problem is that the dryers don't. 14 of 24 currently out of order. This is getting to be a more and more regular thing here. read more

The Missing Sock Laundry - 4/25/18, 1:30pm. The dryer on the top right that doesn't have a sign is also out of order. - Laundromat Near Me - San Francisco, California

High efficiency washers: Win Clean: Win Not having to carry 8 pounds of quarters: Win Plastic lounge chairs to sit and wait in: Kinda win Having to park 6 blocks away: Lose Overall: Great place, great high-efficiency machines do a great job at cleaning clothes, debit cards that allow paying by credit cards is a gigantic convenience, and so far it hasn't been crowded; but parking, well, it is where it is, parking is a chore; still a great place though. read more

Yes, it's a bit pricey, but I feel that it's totally worth it. Everything in the laundromat is VERY clean; cleaner than most people's apartments I'd bet. In addition, all the machines are relatively new and function properly without hassle. The payment system is painless and accepts credit cards. I feel completely safe leaving my clothes in the machines while the cycles are running so I can walk around chestnut to grab a quick bite or drink. OR, because they offer free, fast wi-fi, I can bring my laptop and get some work done. And if you're the type of person looking to meet that special someone, there always appears to be fairly attractive, normal people frequenting The Missing Sock. What better way to fall in love than over a discussion regarding choice of fabric softener. read more

Apparently even laundry mats are not immune to technological improvements. While most of us have been perfectly happy using quarters to do our laundry for the past half century, the Missing Sock has "made our lives easier" by requiring the purchase of a debit card in order to wash your clothes. On top of that, a $4 deposit is required in order to purchase the card! So if you want to spend $6 doing your laundry, you'll need to fork over $10. You get to keep the card and can add money to it on your second, third, etc. visit. (Wow! A customer loyalty program.) You can return the card in an envelope and the owner will mail you a check for $4. My guess is that most customers don't bother and the owner ends up making that much extra in fees. Of course none of this information is posted at the Missing Sock, so consider yourself warned. Personally, I'd prefer to pay for my wash using good old fashioned quarters. Why overly complicate a system that has worked just fine for decades. read more

I was excited to try a laundromat that I could use my cc at and not have to gather up quarters as it is always a pain. I followed the instructions on the pay machine to obtain a new laundry card (something this place makes you use to load your money on). There is a $10 charge and $4 is a deposit and the rest you get to use towards laundry services. The machine charged my credit card but never spit out my laundry card. When I tried to get a receipt it said it was out of paper. Frustrating to say the least...There is also no ATM on site even if you wanted to get cash and try to get the laundry card that way. There is no one on site to assist with problems like these and their phone number is automated. I sent several emails and never heard a response. Extremely BAD customer service. I will warn everyone I know who inquires about a laundromat not to use this place. read more

Wow this place is really clean. The machines are new and does not take quarters! YAY! Finally a place that take credit/debt cards. I really appreciate places that are really clean and orderly. If you run out of anything, there is a vending machine that sells all the laundry supplies you need. Yes, this place is a bit pricy but I'm willing to pay for clean machines. I would prefer to wash my clothes and sheets in nice clean machines and know that my stuff will get cleaned. Rather than washing my clothes in old machines for a buck less and ponder if it just made my clothes dirtier. This place also have free wifi and there are tons of shops near by. I absolutely love this place and think this has been the cleanest and most convenient laundry mat I have ever been to. read more

Unfriendly laundromat cleaner staff review: I usually do my laundry at missing sock since a few months ago. Then I went to missing socks on 06/16/2021 wednesday night around 10pm to do 5 loads of laundry. I reasonably put my empty plastic bags of my laundry to throw away right next to the small trash can bin so i do not fill up the small trash can with empty plastic bags. At around 11:30pm the cleaner male walked in and then saw the plastic bags (reasonably piled and not all over the place) next to small trash can he asked are those plastic bags from me, i said yes, then he immediately suddenly yelled at me to take those plastic bags (costco white 13 gallon kitchen trash bags the bags are still white even after my laundry was in there) and dump it at the street trash cans outside on chestnut street 10 buildings down 1 block away. I thought he had a bad day so i stayed silent and then took those bags and decided to put it all in the trash bin in the laundromat. Then after I put it in the trash bin he then cussed at me saying "f*^ you". I was abused by others recently so after hearing him cussing at me, i started shaking and heart start pounding even though i tried to stay peaceful. Due to him cussing at me it took longer to do my laundry because i was a bit traumatized by memory recalls after he cussed at me with F word. I was suppose to finish my laundry before midnight if he did not cuss at me with F word and also yelled at me. I finished drying my laundry right at 12 midnight closing time. Since his hostile behavior towards me, i did not finish gathering my laundry and then exit the laundromat until 12:10am because of traumatization from the cleaner male's hostile behavior. Right before i left, the cleaner male took a broom and flicked ( from 5 feet to 7 feet away) the dust and small trash on the floor hard towards my washed and dried blanket i just took out of the dryer while i was trying to gather my clothes to exit the building, then after he flicked the dust and dirt from the floor to my cleaned and dried blanket and clothes, he said "F#% you" one more time right when i was about to leave with my clothes. So when he did that I told him to stop and do not sweep the floor around and very near clothes to my just cleaned clothes placed on the ground on top of my clean bags. Then he immediately 1 min afterwards instead of using a broom he using another floor swifter and got close to my clean clothes again so i had to ask him to stop in a civil manner and let me gather my clothes and exit the laundromat first then clean the floor i am standing on next to the dryer. Because of the male cleaner's hostility towards me that night, i did not exit the laundromat until 12:10am past midnight closing time. I was suppose to exit at around 12am midnight closing time. The male cleaner also accused me of staying past midnight for 10 minutes (due to his hostile behavior and using F#% words against me, dirtying by flicking towards my cleaned clothes with floor dust and small trash with broom, and possibly trying to touch his broom and floor swifter to dirty of clean clothes, i was not able to exit until 10 min after closing while with hostility from the male cleaner). The whole time at missing socks i was just cleaning my clothes peacefully and reasonably like anyone else, even though with the male cleaners hostile behavior towards me, i did not engage in any conversation with him except to let him know 1) those clean trash bag next to the small trash bin is from me, and 2) also ask him not to move his floor broom and swifters too close to my cleaned clothes, while i received hostility from the male cleaner at missing socks laundromat. read more

AMAZING! oh how i miss having a washer/dryer in my apartment. But now living on the third floor, the last thing i want to do is walk up and down to the basement to the one washer and dryer. And of course, I have never have quarters, so I end up searching every jacket/purse/drawer looking for the long, lost quarters... And then there is the Missing Sock. They take credit cards, which right there alone makes the whole laundry process that much easier. Not to mention its always clean and rarely crowded. It almost makes doing my laundry a pain-free task.. almost :) read more

This place is great! I never thought I would write a review for a laundromat! we had been dealing with one pair of small washer dryer in a 12 unit building for 5 months until I found out about this place! Doing laundry is so much faster and more pleasant now! I'm not sure what the reviewer say about this place being expensive, it's way cheaper than I expected, and what I've been paying in our own building. It's also fast , and located right on chestnut so I can go to a restaurant or coffeeshop while waiting for my laundry. This place is also really clean as you can see in the pictures! Definitely recommend it to anyone. read more

Super clean & usually pretty empty on week nights/evenings. Only complaint is that I can never seem to connect to the free wifi. read more

This is perhaps the sweetest laundromat of all time. EVEN though its NOT in my neighborhood at all, I will still drive to it. I use to go to brainwash, but I got tired of people talking to themselves loudly and undoing their pants in front of me, tripping over screaming kids, people asking for change, GEEZE people I JUST want to wash my clothes! The missing sock is the opposite of Brainwash. Its clean, its coinless, they have funny little framed cartoons on the wall, its quiet, and the machines are AWESOME! No more putting your clothes through 2 or 3 dryer cycles and no more crazy naked people talking to themselves, staring at me and hitting the dryer. yay! The only gripe I have is that when you recharge your card that you have to pay 3 bucks for, you only have the option to add money in $10 increments. What if I just need to add a buck? Keeps you coming back to use up the rest of the card...smaaaart people. Very smart. :0) read more

An upgrade for sure, even compared to the upgrade made to the washers and dryers across the street. Spacious, clean, and efficient. The only thing I was a little eh about is the $3.00 deposit for the re-loadable card for the machines. But super great that you can use your charge card for laundry...no more trips for quarters from Wells. The 1/2 hour for the dryer was even enough, and at 1.50 I'm very content. Like I said, very spacious, and "loads" of machines. They have that locker dry cleaning service and people on site, so hey, I'm moving my washing needs over here. And if you're into plastic chaise lounge chairs, you can lounge away read more

UPDATE 10/16/11 - Per the owner's comment, you can use cash, but you need a ten dollar bill (not ones, fives, or other bill) in order to get a new card. I don't want anyone else to go through the frustration that I did. I was without cell phone or I would have tried calling. I do appreciate the response from the owner and I am done bitching now. I prefer quarters. read more

The best laundromat in San Francisco! Easy access, easy payment, amazing washers and dryers, the best customer service. I came once at 11:45 to pickup laundry before closing and the machine had stopped, I was helped and able to stay later too - I will go here forever. I love every location. Highly and 100% recommend. read more

First of all... you have to buy a card to even use the machine. The card costs like $8 maybe more...and it doesn't go toward the money for you to use in the washing machine... The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because you can go late at night and not feel like you're in danger. Very quiet area around this laundry mat. In general, doing laundry in San Francisco is expensive.... but the card being $8!? Yah... no. And some machines were out of order and didn't have a sign on them.. not sure if it ended up taking my money.. didn't even wanna check. read more

I live too far to haul baskets of dirty clothes on foot, so I have to drive. And parking SUCKS. It becomes a routine of double park or pull over in front of a driveway, throw the hazards on, and hustle to carry the baskets in. (Sorry to the person whose driveway I blocked the other day.) THEN, circle the blocks endlessly for a spot. THEN, the laundering begins. Not sure how I feel about the card paying system. I guess it's nice not having to collect quarters. Kuddos for the free wi-fi. I don't know what it is about the dryers, but they've managed to shrink several pairs of 100% PLOYESTER sweat pants of mine. I have no idea how you shrink polyester. Until the glorious day that I get a W/D in my apartment, I will continue to patronize laundromats. *Sigh* read more

This place is a scam business. To pay for the laundry you must buy a card. I bought a card for $20 plus a $5 fee as a deposit. To receive the deposit back and the balance, you must slide your information under the door. After hearing nothing for a week, I called twice and finally received my $5 but certainly not the balance on my card. There is really no way they tell you what the balance on your card is, and I did not receive any of that back. So for maybe $5 - $6 worth of laundry, I paid $20. I have called since and received no reply. THEY KEEP YOUR MONEY. SCAM. read more

The Missing Sock is so clean, I make a consistent effort to see that I dont leave any bits of powdered detergent anywhere, or crumbs while i'm snacking in the lounge chairs. It's pricey and further from my place than a few other laundromats, but worth the walk for free wi-fi and huge space. Beware, there are no power outlets to be found, so come with your laptop charged. read more

Probably the most well-appointed laundromat you'll ever find, certainly the nicest I've ever seen. (I'll qualify that statement by saying I'm used to NYC sketchiness when it comes to these kinds of places.) Prices reflect this fact, however, as the large washing machine cost $6 to run a cycle, and dryers costing a flat rate of $1.50 for 30 minutes. Detergent and laundry bags available on site, prices similarly inflated. Leave quarters at home- it's all card based. Card can be refilled by cash or credit. ***P.S.- Many thanks to the owner for conscientious response! Sad to say that I'm not an SF resident, just visiting from out East, but if I were a local, this is certainly where I'd do my laundry. read more

This is the most frustrating laundromat I've been to. You have 29 washers and literally half (12/24) are broken at any given time. I just counted. Even if the dryers are "working" they don't actually dry your clothes most of the time- which kind of defeats the purpose. Sure they keep the facilities pretty clean - but at the prices you pay it's kind of ridiculous that half of the dryers don't work. If I had any other option I would take my business elsewhere but there isn't anything that's at a reasonable walking distance. Maybe I'll switch to delivery. So disappointed with this place. 10-1-2018 update They still haven't fixed the dryers. This is unbelievable. read more

VERY clean. Found this place on yelp, very nice neighborhood, feel comfortable leaving clothes to wash/dry while I took a 20 min. walk. Machines work great and are super clean. Not coin operated but a young man gave us his card that had a money left on it, all we had to do was reload it. Otherwise we would've had to pay $10 and we would've gotten a card loaded with $6 on it. (Sign says $4 is refundable but I don't see anyone that works here so I'm not sure how you get you're money back.) Cleanest laundry facility I've ever been to. I'll be back when in town! read more

The Missing Sock Laundry - The Missing Sock - Laundromat Near Me - San Francisco, California

I am writing this review on behalf of my wife. By way of a premarital verbal agreement, she is responsible for laundering our clothes. (Easy ladies, I do plenty of other stuff....). While the missing sock is easily the nicest laundromat in the Marina it has begun to show its age. Machines seem to stay broken too long. Those that do work don't seem to work as well as they used to, despite ensuring the conditions for successful drying are met (dryer not overstuffed, lint tray emptied). I doubt these flaws are egregious enough to force a switch. They offer free WiFi, and usually have a few crappy girl magazines lying around to entertain my wife for the extra dry cycle required to complete the job. read more

Ok so I've gone here about 4 or 5 times. I can say this much the place is clean and that much is maintained well. As far as the washers go that's a different story, everytime I have gone here there was something or other wrong with at least one of the washers I used.this last time has me not going back because 2 of my loads seemed as if they got tossed around in water then wrung out, and another load didn't seemed rinsed out. The dryers seem to work great tho. read more

This place has great hours and is super clean. Don't be "put off" by the card payment system it actually comes in handy. The high efficiency washing machines and dryers make my trips to do laundry super zippity zip! As long as I'm living in the Marina I won't go anywhere else. read more

Discovered this laundromat as the one I usually go to in Pac Heights has a broken coin machine and I found mud/sand inside multiple washing machines. Not good. Quite impressed by the modern decor and cleanliness of it (you don't expect much from laundromats once you've seen how low they can go). Machines are fairly easy to operate but would have appreciated it if there was a sign that says I have to close the machine in order to be able to choose a cycle. Same with 'check your card balance' card - didn't know I just needed to insert the card halfway through to make it read it (kept trying jam the whole card into the slot for 2 min). Pretty minor. Pricing could be more reasonable - card deposit is $4 (refundable), but the wash - on the machine says $2.75 but once I inserted the card it says $3.25...hmm. Am fine with paying a $0.5 premium if it means clean washing machines (can't take these things for granted these days). Another big plus is the free wifi. Also looking forward to starting my load at 9pm since this place closes at midnight!! read more

Nicest laundry mat in town! Always kept well cleaned and never too busy. We lost a whole load and didn't realize it for two weeks. Once we noticed, the management had a very organized system to help us track down our clothes. All around a great experience. read more

the missing sock is overpriced and nowhere near as good as it should be. if you want a proper high-end laundry experience in SF, go to washboard blues on divisadero and ellis instead. that place is infinitely better on all fronts - it always has live attendants on duty, it's always spotless, all the machines always work, it has much nicer decor and better furnishings in its lounge area, and it's about 1/2 the price of the missing sock to boot. the missing sock, in comparison, has a ton of dust bunnies hanging out between its partially-out-of-order-and-not-fully-maintained machines, no attendent, an overpriced card system and overpriced washing and drying costs, decor that's never really touched up or fully maintained. you basically get less for more at the missing sock. go to washboard blues instead and thank me later. read more

The Missing Sock Laundry - Laundromat Near Me - San Francisco, California

Could not be better. I have my own laundry facilities and have not used a laundromat in years. But I needed to wash a bedding item too large for my home washer. Found this place on Yelp and had a nice time laundering my item. You have to buy a pay card that looks a little like the SF parking meter cards. I was confused by the process for adding value to the card, so I called the number that was posted on the wall. To my surprise, I received a call back from the friendly owner just a few minutes later. I will definitely use this laundry for any oversized items I need to launder in the future. read more

It's a clean laundromat. Quiet. I really hate the payment system. I don't want to carry or have to remember bringing a card, which they system requires you to do. Also the dryers don't appear to allow you to add time, I got ripped off right away trying to add time and having the dryer reset itself as a result. KISS principle is not at work here. Big fat negative one star for that one. read more

I've been coming here for about a year every week or 2 weeks. I left good review when I found it.....has a great location, for the most part clean. The last 2 months this place has just been ......not working? Almost half the machines consistently say "out of order" including the big washers. Last week a washer exploded or leaked or something and there was soapy water everywhere. Customers attempting to clean. None of the hazard cones were in there holders. I wouldn't bring this up if it was an isolated incident but have seen it a couple of times. A lot of people use this place so FIX YOUR MACHINES. A couple of us had to wait in line for dryers today. My comforter will have to wait since only 2 of the big washers working and both were occupied. read more

The Missing Sock out- of- order Laundromat. The sign, posted in May, states there is a back order of out of order machines. In the meantime lost money due to malfunctions is not being reimbursed. In order to use the machines, it is necessary to buy a card for $10.00 from an auto machine. This will supposedly be reimbursed if you no longer use the card. Then you add to the card to use the machines. This is a rip off, especially for tourists who frequent the business, since they are just passing through and have no further use for the card and there is no management available for reimbursement. It is an incentive for locals, who have already invested the $10.00 in the card, hoping the machines work. However when the machines don't work and reimbursements are only a promise, it is a win-win deal for the business, and a loss for the client. There doesn't seem to be a solution to this problem except to take your losses and walk away. read more

They say money can't buy happiness. But time is money, and the less time, the less money and that makes me extraordinarily happy! Thus, sometimes, money might buy happiness. Getting ready for vacation I realized I didn't want to spend an entire day doing all of my laundry in the one small machine my building has for 15 units. Even more than that, I really dislike being on the receiving looks of annoyed building-mates when "I'm still there". (I've occasionally been that person so I get it. When there's only one machine, you can't help but be annoyed sometimes.) But I digress. I actually don't mind doing laundry. Wash and fold usually takes more time than I'm willing to allow for my jeans to come back. And Safeway may cut me off from quarters soon. And then *drumroll* there is The Missing Sock. It's true that a standard wash load is 2.75 and dry load is 1.50/30mins. If you read it and don't do it, it sounds like a lot more than staying home. But: 1. 3 loads washed in 27 minutes. 2. All three loads fit into 1 dryer....with crazy extra room. These are large capacity dryers. (which also makes me think I could have gotten away with 2 washers...) 3. Free wi-fi, so I got some work done while sitting here. 4. Accepts credit cards. There is a small catch, that you should know, but it doesn't bother me at all because I heart convenience. There's a one time $4 deposit on your cash card that you purchase on site to use the machines. If you keep coming back it pays for itself over time (money/time!). 5. Super clean, and at 9am on a Sunday morning, EMPTY and free street parking. I did the math. It cost me 1.50 more than if I did it at home, but save me a headache and my entire day. That, friends is a deal. The Missing Sock, I won't even be upset if a sock actually goes missing. WIN!! read more

Living in an apt in the Marina means finding a Laundromat! Been to a couple in the neighborhood that were not very accomodating. Not many machines and only took quarters. My roommate found this spot a few months ago and we are fans! Doing laundry can be a challenge but this place is super efficient for anyone to do their laundry without wasting time. Always machines available and most are working fine! AND the fact that you can use a Debit card is super convenient. Doing laundry sucks but this place makes it easy! read more

What a laundromat! I've been to my fair share of crappy laundromats where not only do you have to wait forever for a machine, but they are so old that they hardly wash and if you intend on drying you'd better intend on spending your whole day there. The Missing Sock though is by far and away the best laundromat going around...so good in fact that it's like having your own in apartment machines (not quite, but close). With heaps of machines, high efficiency cycles and free Wi-Fi, time flies and your clothes are super clean and dry (the dry cycle takes only 30 minutes). The machine cards are also a hell of a lot better than lugging around quarters and needing to find change. The place even has Laundry Lockers in the back....after doing this a couple of times I actually changed up and forked out the extra few bucks for Laundry Locker....but if I had to do my washing myself, I'd be doing it at the Missing Sock. (As a quirky antidote, we actually found a random sock in out washing, and an old, nasty thong as well) read more
