My boyfriend and I stopped by about a week ago. Let me first start off with no one working there was wearing masks and the place was not cleanly at all. Not very good in the middle of a pandemic. On top of that the person at the cash register/ payment area without a mask attempted to put the lime in my beer without gloves on before I stopped her. We just shared a order of tacos with no flavor. I only gave it two stars because of the nice views outside. Definitely not going back. read more

If you're going to Crown King for the day for some Jeep off-roading, and you don't want to sit in the "Saloon" with dusty travelers and a "Cash Only" bar, I suggest you head over to "The Mill" on top of the hill. You'll go right past it on your left just before you turn right to go into downtown Crown King. Although Crown King is historic, The Mill contains many mining relics and items left behind by previous residents. According to the owners, Sam and Mike, The Mill was built out of leftover building materials but you'd never know it. The 5 Stamp mill in the dining room is original (although not original to this site) and the wood burning furnace will keep you and the dining room very comfortable on the coldest of days. And the bar was originally found in a resort in Phoenix and hauled up the mountain to Crown King. But the food! Absolutely delicious! They make their own bread from a proprietary recipe, and it's good enough to eat all by itself. I had the prime rib sandwich, which was very tasty, cooked just right and very tender stuffed between two slices of their own bread topped off with butter, and a side of cole slaw which was seasoned just right. My wife had a burger, also between two slices of their bread, and she described it as the 'awesome", and she too had the cole slaw. With outdoor seating and a view, it was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon after 4-wheeling through the Bradshaw Mountains. Oh yeah, did I mention the beer was COLD? All in all, it was worth the stop and a pleasure to meet and talk with Sam (our Hostess) and Mike (the Chef) -- the owners. Stop in and enjoy their hospitality! You'll be glad you did! read more

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. This was hands down the absolute worst experience I've had at a restaurant. The owner was incredibly disrespectful to our 8-top. Their "menu" was a board with 5 mostly red meat options and their respective prices. When we asked what came with these options he berated us for not knowing despite us being from out of town on vacation He then went on to make a scene because 2 people ordered chicken strips and fries which were "only for kids." When we gave the option to upcharge us for the same meal he said it wasn't possible. He then took aside one of my friends into the kitchen, said she was a liar because the bartender had said it was kids only, and then slapped her on the back as she walked away. He then proceeded to be disrespectful to his waitstaff in front of our entire table. The couple next to our table sympathized and said they were sorry and had experienced the same negative interactions from him before. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from a grown man who owns an establishment that caters to customers. Spend your money at the saloon where they will treat you well or bring your own food to grill. read more

Every time I visit crown king I come here. I've had just about everything on the menu here throughout the years . The service is great, the folks here are welcoming and the surroundings are comforting. I usually come up here the back way from lake pleasant. Since I brought my parents this time I brought the road in from bumblebee right off the I-17. If you're in this neck of the woods camping, or wheelin, stop on in and let the crew feed your hunger with their menu items, you won't regret it. read more

My husband and I ordered sandwiches, I had the prime rib sandwich and he ordered the ruben. We both received 1/2 a sandwich, they were both served open-faced with one slice of bread on the bottom. My prime rib sandwich was thinly chopped beef with 1/2 melted jack and cheddar cheese. The fries were ok, and my husband ordered cottage cheese with his and received coleslaw. The waitress came over and said she was sorry and would comp one of our beverages. The bill came and it was not comped at all. $50 for 2 half sandwiches and 2 beers. I will think again before coming here. I will remain a fan of the other restaurant in town. read more

The parking lot is a muddy mess. How about some gravel? We decided to dine indoors. No masks or gloves on ANYONE. My prime rib sandwich was bland and dry. Leftovers for sure. My husbands was very garlicy. Two different batches? I don't know. The fries didn't taste freshly made. A young man couldn't get the rickety exit door closed so some guy working there yelled across the restaurant for him to be a man and close the door. The building is ancient but that's part of the charm, but how about a new door? The restaurant was very cold so we sat next to the wood burning stove, but it didn't help. There was a pile of wood beside the stove, but none to spare for customers comfort. A young man was going upstairs and got scolded for it. If it's off limits, a sign would prevent embarrassment. read more

This is our second visit, and the food tasted as good as the first time. We had the green chili which is well worth of trying. My mom ordered the ribeye steak. The steak was made to the order, and was delicious. My husband and I had the all everything burger on the beer bread and tasted really good. The staff are super friendly. I didn't have the opportunity to even sit down before an owner or worker berated me. After reading other poor reviews it seems like I'm not the only one with this kind of experience. I was waiting for my family of ten to come inside. A lady walked in and left the door wide open by me. This guy came up screaming for leaving the door open. "Don't come in here just to use the bathroom. Either close the door or leave!" (When I say he was screaming.. he really was). It was uncalled for. So I instantly felt uncomfortable and proceeded to walk out the door to leave. He came back to yell at me again "what did I just say!!?!". Sir, I left because that was one of two options you gave me. I did not come there to just use your bathroom. I came there with my family to have lunch. But we will obviously not stay after being treated that way. We went to the Crown King Saloon down the road and were treated so much better! I prayerfully hope that others are treated more kindly when they go to The Mill! Very interesting place. Was told this was the best food in town. (yes, i know, few options, but would say good food even compared to most tavern/pub/bar food.) super interesting decor if you allow yourself to get absorbed into the community history. Our server Shay was beyond knowledeable and MUST be a great asset to the Restaurant with her recommendactions and knowledge. Very energetic & friendly. (As the matter of fact, everyone is very friendly & helpful in this town We ordered the prime rib sandwich & monterey chicken. Huge portions. Both were delicious as well the fries. read more

We were doing a "back road" Jeep run up to Crown King and were very very hungry and tired. We had some major minuses when we got to town and some major pluses!! I wont go into detail on the minuses. 1 hour after arriving in town we chose to head up the hill to try out the "Mill", and we are all so glad we did! We were acknowledged right away and told that our server would be right with us. We chose to sit outside on the patio "right up top" area as the weather and scenery were spectacular. The service was very friendly and informative regarding the menu, all 5 of us chose some awesome burgers with the thin fries. I posted pictures of the area and the food. Cocktails served right away and a very short wait time for the food. Everyone there were in good spirits. All I can say for my "Everything Burger" was it was Fantastic! Leftovers? Um NO. We ordered a burger pattie with cheese for our fur baby waiting for us. Will we visit again? That is a complete hell YES! Thank you for finishing our Jeep day on such a good note! read more

We drove our UTV to Crown King today and had lunch at the Mill Restaurant. We are so glad we did! This is a very unique restaurant. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. I ordered the veggie grill with fries. This is a open face sandwich which was loaded with fresh veggies. The fries were hand cut and cooked perfect. My husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which was also open face with fries. Our server was so attentive. We could not have been happier. We will definitely be back! read more

It's a nice restaurant up the mountain of Crown King :-) Although they will need more servers on a busy day because they only had one when we dined in on a Monday afternoon(which is okay because it wasnt busy at all) The server is so great. This is a really cool place to come for lunch on the weekends. The food is awesome, and the staff is fantastic. If you're in a hurry you might be disappointed as this place can get super busy. Today is 3-11-2016. We have been coming here for 4 years and today was not a good visit. We love coming here because we experience great service from Shay and Audra. However today there's this a-hole named Todd. He was a total dick. Today was a very busy day. It took over an hour to get our food. When I noticed a table get their food before us and they had just arrived about 20 minutes ago. All I did was inquire with Todd about out food and stated we had been waiting atleast an hour he snapped at me and said IT'S NOT YOUR FOOD. I tried to explain to Todd again and he snapped again and said I DON'T KNOW IT'S NOT YOUR FOOD. That is not good service and it will be very difficult for us to come back here again. The only problem is we love Shay and Audra. If we come back I will refuse being served by a prick. read more

The owner or cook what ever he was! was rude and obnoxious. He used foul language as we decided they didn't need our business. They obviously do not like children in their establishment. It could have saved us all a lot of anguish if the would have a sign stating children are not welcome here. As we were leaving he said his father would have f______ kick his a__ if as a child he didn't sit still. Took the ride up here from Phoenix via Bumble Bee. I have been here before so was prepared for the limited choices available for dining. On a whim we decided to go here rather than the Saloon. I can't compare them since I have not been to the saloon. The place was built in the 1990's, but looks like it has been here forever. Unpretentious and lots of fun stuff to look at. On to the food. The couple at the next table said the green chile was outstanding, and was it ever! Lots of chunky beef and veggies and a delicious flavor. A must order. Two of us had hamburgers which are ground in house. Topped with everything it was delicious and cooked to a perfect medium. Plenty of avocado, perfectly cooked bacon and grilled onions that are to die for. Served on your choice of home baked bread. The fries were fresh cut and fried to golden perfection. The other thing ordered was the grilled cheese, which was huge and very crispy. It was not crowded mid afternoon on a Fri., and we got very friendly and helpful service from Audra. Give this place a try. I think you will be pleased with the overall "real" AZ experience. Say hi to Audra if you go. read more

After a day of four wheeling and playing in the forest, we came for a dinner at the Mill. My wife had the stuffed salmon, my daughter had the shrimp scampi, and I had the baby back ribs. The food was awesome, the custom made mixed drinks were great, and our waitress Audra was super friendly and was very attentive. We got our food quickly and it was great. The ambiance of The Mill is incredibly hard to achieve. Set above the town, in the pines, build of wood, The Mill is decorated like a restaurant you would find in the days of the Wild West. Walking in, you feel like you've been transported. Then you are brought back into reality very quickly. After you pick your dinner off of the white board menu, you get to pick your seat. I went with the Pork Loin Medallions, but had no clue what sides I was getting or what the medallions would be cooked in, since the white board didn't give any descriptions. Turns out a dry rub was put on the medallions, then the cook was very literal and make my medallions very dry. Plus, I got to eat some vegetables soaked in oil, and potatoes swimming in butter. This is so bad... my medallions were so dry I had to dip my pork in my husband's barbecue sauce that he had on his pork spare ribs. We were given the same side dishes, in addition to a starter salad and some really good homemade beer bread. After 7 years of coming to Crown King and owning a cabin up here, I am glad I finally tried The Mill. But my loyalty to CK businesses only goes so far, and I will not be returning. read more

WOW we weren't going to let these hateful unprofessionals ruin our vacation. The minute we walked in it was full on negative energy starting from the blond waitress glaring at us as we tried to enter the restaurant bar. She almost ran over a couple tables insisting we have a seat outside almost forcing us to except that we must be outside? I dont know why it was so urgent for us to dare go straight to the bar like most restaurants let you do? As we approached the bar (which was empty) the bartender woman glared at us as if we just ruined her day. We asked if we could have a drink which is an odd question at a bar but we were thrown off and confused. She said shed have to clean off the bar first with an attitude as if we were walking in at closing time, she was very pissed off. We all immediately looked at each other like "what the f*#k did we do"? I said lets get the hell out because I guess they dont want to make any money. During this incident, my husband was in the bathroom so my friends left and I waited for him to come out of the bathroom to let him know we were not staying. As I waited, the bartender angrily told the waitress she cleaned the bar off for nothing and we were leaving...as if the bar was never going to be cleaned at all for the rest of the day. (by the way it was afternoon). She made sure she was loud enough for us to hear it. As we left there must have been some locals eating there who made some snotty comments at us because they saw the situation as it grew. Hey, they can have their restaurant....remember this is a tourist town but whatever? We will be coming back to Crown King but will be frequenting the Saloon down the way, had no issues there and they were very welcoming and the food was good. Good times there. read more
