This is a fun little pit stop to make if you're in the area. We got to the Saloon via Senator Hwy from Prescott (only do if you're in a high clearance 4x4). Crown King Rd is an easy dirt road to get to town from the other direction. We had a burger and chicken sandwich. Food was good, service was ok. This is a great place to stop when you are in Crown King. The inside of this establishment is authentic to the extreme! It almost feels like you're stepping into the wild west back in the 1800s. They have a decent menu, not overly complicated but everything is good. The prices aren't too bad. They do accept credit cards. Service was friendly. Picture yourself four-wheeling in the dust and heat for hours. Then you sit down in a restaurant and someone brings you a cold beer and a cheeseburger. Trust me, you are going to think its the best beer and cheeseburger ever conceived by man. Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad about the burgers, but they would just be ordinary, if not mundane anywhere else. But still the value is good for what what you are getting in the middle of nowhere. My only real issue is the awkward service. There are these signs on the tables saying to tell the café what number table you are sitting at. I took the number to the café and they said to go sit back down and someone would take my order. Then what are the numbers for?? Also the bartender says you cannot eat at the bar. Its just really awkward from a service standpoint. None of the customers understand the system if there is one. Anyway they have cold beer & cheeseburgers. Forget the rest. read more

Boy does this place get busy! It was my first time to Crown King and I was amazed at the amount of people up there playing for the day/weekend! Ordered drinks at the bar and found a great table despite all the crowds of off-roaders. **The bar and restaurant actually operate independently of each other. I had a fantastic dark beer that was on tap but can't remember what it was called. Pretty decent selection of beers on tap! We had fried pickles for an appetizer and they were delicious - so much better than most places. They actually cover the pickles in a good amount of batter before frying. My meal was a "works" burger which had pepper jack cheese, green chile, jalapenos and bacon. So good!!! My guy had a bacon cheeseburger which he loved. The burgers are BIG and we ended up taking some of our food back to our room at Cedar Roost. Fries were tasty but could hardly eat any since we got full fast. We didn't eat anything here but the food all looked like comfy food and looked delicious. When you walk in they have a little stage for live music with lots of old pictures and decor on the walls. There's a cute western bar top and in the back they have food. They have waitresses but you can also order at the counter. They had a lot of good looking American food! Had a chance to visit the saloon today after Thanksgiving, and it was well worth the drive. While you can get there in 2 wheel drive, I would recommend something with higher clearance and four-wheel-drive. The saloon in town were bustling with jeeps and side-by-side everywhere. Inside the saloon, they had a nice wood-burning stove, keeping the place warm and served up some great burgers, fries, and cold beers. It was an adventure to get here, but again, well worth it. Can't wait to visit it again in the winter. read more

The mere town of Crown King was a sight for sore eyes after taking the backroad from Lake Pleasant to the area on an off-roading adventure. It's unfortunate that not more of their historic buildings are still standing, which is why they treasure this saloon/hotel. The walls have so many stories and histories nailed to them. Not sure if service was slow because a small festival was wrapping up and it was busy, or if they indeed are slow. We weren't in a particular rush to eat and get back on the road, but seems like they took their sweet time to take care of our entire group. The food is atypical American bar/restaurant fare (sandwiches, burgers, salad, fried stuff, etc) with a full bar. They require a minimum $10 spend on booze if you use a card, otherwise turn 90 degrees to the left from the bar and use their on-site ATM. If you choose to stay in the hotel above, I've been warned there are some fun... spirits that like to play with guests. By supporting Crown King Saloon, you are not only supporting this sleepy town, but also any/all ghost towns in Arizona, and keeping to ensure the town's existence. read more

For years after a long ATV ride, this was the only place to come and eat.....so we would usually pack our lunch and drink at the Saloon! Sometimes we would actually eat here....they serve regular food that you would expect from a saloon or bar, per usual fried foods. So drinks it is! We love being able to stop here after a long ride with friends and just drink and mingle. It's usually to crowded or hot inside, so we always prefer the patio area! We love coming here when it snows, it's so beautiful!! They used to sell Rock Springs Pies here, not sure if they still do that....but that was an awesome way to get a fresh baked pie and take it home to eat after a long day! read more

Getting lunch at the Crown King Saloon has been a life goal of mine for 10 years. I've wanted to come in via Senator Highway from Prescott. But I don't have a high clearance vehicle. So I rented a Jeep in Phoenix and came up the 17 through Cleator with the intention of taking Senator Highway to Prescott. The stop at the saloon did not disappoint. I could have hung out there all day that Friday. It wasn't crazy busy yet for the weekend. The bartender was very friendly and offered lots of insight about the town, the bar, and the area. The food was delicious. The chilli is a must! The fries hot and crispy. The beer cold. I will come up again from Phoenix for lunch one day. The drive off the 17 doesn't require high clearance and the views are spectacular. And there is no better destination in the whole state than this saloon! read more

I had the great pleasure of finally getting to stop in at The Crown King Saloon after a Jeep run on Crown King. My husband has been talking up this place for years. The place is small, but everyone there is so friendly and welcoming. When we arrived about 130pm on a Saturday the place was hopping with ATV people, luckily we were able to sit at the cafe, but still get items from the Saloon. The saloon is cash only, but they do have an ATM right inside. They serve beers on tap, by the bottle and can. The tap beer comes out in a mason like jar. I also watched as someone purchased an entire case of beer to take with them, so they seem to offer that also. The lady behind the bar was really nice and broke a larger bill for me when we were splitting up the MJ bill. I noticed they have a section designated at the entrance for a band so it looks like they offer live music at times. They also have outside seating at the front and back. If you want food with your beer you can get it from MJs Cafe in the back. If you go to Crown King you should definitely stop in. read more

Food service is goofy: Go to this window, no go to that window, "who told you this window it's that window". "No, go around back to that window." If you ever make the trek to Crown King, this is the place to be. It has such an authentic small-town saloon/restaurant feel to it. Service was great. Stopped by before heading back home to the Phoenix area on New Years Day. Food was surprisingly good (we went in with no expectations), burgers and fries--I cleaned my plate. Mimosas for breakfast and the guys had a beer. Loved seeing the history of the town inside of the saloon, black and white photos on the wall show prisoners with ropes around their necks standing on the platform of the gallows that would lead to their demise. Old wood burning stove sitting in the center and a bar that oozes old west saloon style. I got the feel that a lot of people knew each other and that it is a popular spot for the locals to gather. Everyone in this town is friendly, we got stuck in the snow and were fortunate to meet some kind samaritans who helped put chains on our truck and get out of the ditch we slid into. Bring your truck or ATV to get here because the drive is pretty treacherous. Expect no pavement for the 26 miles between I17 and the saloon. However, once arriving to the saloon, it is worth the trip. The area surrounding the saloon reminded me instantly of Maine or Vermont in the summer. The beer and food here are extremely reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very laid back. As far as bar food is concerned, the burgers are very tasty. I've heard the name for years and finally got to go. Gathered the family and made the journey. Have to say crown king in general is super disappointing. All 5 cabins. So we sat down, the table was wet where they just cleaned it, no big deal. Then they gave us our silverware, which were dirty from a previous table. Even had a dirty straw in it. Gross. The food for two adults and two kids cost $52.00. Alcohol had to be bought at the bar so that wasn't included. All in all I just want to pretend I never went to crown king. read more

First this place is not as cool as I would have hoped. The food here was straight horrid. We spent $60 on two burgers and two kids meals, and it was disgusting. I was told we should have gone to the Mill which is on the top of the hill as you enter Crown King. A few times a year a couple friends & I go off-roading. Normally we stay in the Superior area, but there was some military testing shenanigans going on there - so we went north instead. My buddy says, we're gonna go on an extremely bumpy road, and after about four hours there's a bar in the middle of nowhere. I did not believe him. Needless to say, I was impressed. I love old towns, especially those who can survive in the middle of nowhere. And even more so when practically everyone there got there the same way. We happened upon their annual "horseshoe pitch" so it was quite busy, which made for some fantastic people watching. The beer was frosty, the burgers were tasty and the service was friendly. Always nice to hang with some laid back country folk, right? We got some homemade fudge and ice cream at the general store next door - both were delicious. Kudos to you if you even make it here... it requires about 30 miles of dirt road driving to get to, so you'll probably want to spend the night in Crown King (they rent rooms for $50 above the saloon). The bar itself was packed the night we were there, and featured the Thomas Oliver Band (good tunes). It was full of "good ol' boys," many of which had been drinking all day, a few of which got tossed out of the bar before it closed by the doorman. This is one of those places where if you look at somebody the wrong way, or say the wrong thing, it would be pretty easy for a fight to break out. So be careful... all in all, though, it was more authentic than it was tourist-y. We got a kick out of Bev the bartender. She knew how to handle the drunks. The Crown King Ale was actually good - not one of those random cheap beers in a small town with the town name slapped on it. This one was tasty, and the price was reasonable. And the food was good, too. We especially liked the chips and salsa. The chips were very unique. If you're looking for a change of pace, and have reason enough to brave the drive and go to Crown King, it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Small town simple bar, which often means you're just getting food as an afterthought. However everything turned out to be quite tasty, and the service was quick and friendly. Their cheeseburger salad is a neat idea and great for those of us trying to avoid bread and similar junk food. The wings were lightly crispy. The only downside on the wings was their dipping sauce was just too runny to stick to the wings very well. They have some high-end microbrews on tap, so that was another plus. read more
