Great place, great service, great variety of beer! We Love Cottonwood. Super great restaurants, shopping.

We were looking to grab a drink after hiking the Jail Trail and came across this bar in downtown Cottonwood. The State Bar is an all-Arizona beer and wine bar. They have a good selection of local beers, ciders, mead and wine on tap. State Bar is located between Bocce Pizzeria and Burning Tree Cellars. They have a indoor bar area and an outdoor patio with tables, heaters and patio games. They also have live music on occasional evenings. I love the chill vibe here. You can find out what selections they have on tap on the Untappd app.

Have to start off saying I am NOT a craft beer person. I am a domestic type of girl! That being said, I could drink any of their brews all day long! Went with 2 other couples on a beautiful February afternoon looking for a break from wine! We all opted for flights. All were great except the blueberry cider, which really surprised me. Cider is usually my go to at a place that this. But this one had a funk I didn't like. After sampling and finishing my flight I ordered a Pinball. A light pale ale. They have a dog friendly patio with fire pits and jenga and cornhole. We enjoyed our few hours here and loved the chill vibe. Definitely a keeper on our Cottonwood list.

Great place! Don't pass this one by! Beers on tap from locals. Oldie Ella was great entertainment. If you don't stop in yoy are missing out. And Derek is the bomb! He treats you right and knows his brew.

Loved this place so much we visited twice to enjoy all of their stout options. Unsurprisingly, every one of them were delicious. The staff are so sweet and welcoming! This is my second time visiting the town and State Bar was just really mellow. Not having to deal with your usual crowd of drunk idiots at bars was refreshing. It's nice to enjoy a great drink and relax outside. My friend and I had a great time here, because even the other customers are really nice and friendly! We had left for a bit to go check out some other places and had a pretty bad experience at ome of the newer bars. We decided to just come back to State Bar after that. When some customers and the bartender heard what happened, they actually apologized for the other bar staff's behavior, hoping we didn't get a bad impression of Cottonwood. I just thought their reaction was so sweet and represented that small town hospitality very well! Overall, just a nice and safe environment to be in!

While making the reservation I made a note that our oldest son is autistic and non-verbal and his only form of communication so that staff was aware we decided to give this place a try. After spending close to $800 on food for our party we decided to exit the restaurant and that is when the problems began. As we were walking out another customer at the bar a patron at the bar decided to squeal at my son but also yell into his face. When who I assumed was her daughter realized we saw what was going on she covered her mouth and told her to stop. Being adults and understanding of others different situations we decided the best method was to approach the management team and explain the situation. I then approached a manger who was wearing a pink colored collared shirt and explained to her what happened and her response was "that hurts my heart, we do not stand for that and we will definitely do something about this." We waited outside for about 15 minutes to see what was going to be done and once we saw nothing was I went back in to speak to the general manager. This was definitely the worst part of the night. Tiana came out to speak to us and I asked her to speak on the side so that other patrons were not affected. Her response to me after explaining the situation was "since we did not see it we cannot do anything." I let her know that was an inappropriate response and that since it was a private business they could remove any patron for any reason but if they did not want to do that then she could just openly tell me that. I then gave her an example and stated "if I stab someone and you do not see it then you would not remove me?" Her response was "we definitely would," to which I stated that goes against what you just openly told me and she that there is damage from a stabbing. I then stated to her that physical damage is the same as emotional and mental damge just in a different form which she seemed to easily dismiss. She then stated that the first manager I spoke to was doing her due diligence to find out what happened and I then pointed out that that manager was actually waiting tables and we watched her do this the entire time so I was not sure when due diligence was being completed. We went around in circles, I asked her to give me the ownership information to which she stated "the owner is too famous for you to know," but eventually gave me the name which I had already searched for in my phone. At this point I openly stated that she could just tell me they were not going to do anything and that transparency would be more appreciated to which her response was "you are not currently dining in my restaurant so you need to leave my property." We did walk away but I hope that this is addressed and not pushed aside. All that to say, I hope this type of discrimination was not because we were Hispanic (the restaurant was filled with 90% Caucasian clients), because we were from out of town (from California) and mostly I hope it is not because the stance of the restaurant is not that people with disabilities matter less. I hope someone reaches out to me to address this concern and I hope no other family has to be a part of what we went through tonight. Tiana seems to be invested in the business and that is great but should also understand her customer concerns. Update to this review: Called this morning (2/17/26) and the hostess said she was not going to help me with any information, that I was a weirdo, to grow up and then hung up the phone on me.

I've been in Cornville for 4-1/2 years and came here for the first time about a year ago. My review was based off the entire party. This time it's just me. I came for the olive medley app which is an amazing concoction of imported olives, sundried tomato, artichoke hearts, fresh herbs and lovely mild goat cheese. It's served warm with buttered and toasted baguettes and the entire app is absolutely sublime. Learned today it develops from a recipe in California! Tastes like it! I also had the rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage. Large portion (half is dinner later) with toasted bread and fresh Parmesan. The marinara is hit with fennel and tomato bits, so much flavor and the sausage has just the right spice. The sur andes Malbec was the perfect wine. They have a very impressive and extensive wine list, great price points. The restaurant is set above Oak Creek, hence Up the Creek. Ample windows provide bird watchers beautiful views of Cornville natural wildlife. Prices are better than Sedona and this place, while off the beaten path, is every bit Sedona-worthy! Another little hidden gem I'm grateful to live close to.

I visited the vinyl store with my wife since it is the only one in the greater Cottonwood/Sedona/VOC area. Even though my wife and I are mostly alt/metal core listeners, my wife is also a big Swiftie and there are exclusive drops at record stores for Record Store Day. My issue is with the way customers are treated at this store. When my wife asked what drops were coming in this month, she received a very curt response from the girl at the front desk saying they are not allowed to discuss what is coming into the store. Weird, but okay. She asked my wife to tell her what she was looking for so she could contact her if they received it. When my wife told her it was a Taylor Swift album, she basically laughed in her face and said they would never carry Taylor Swift there, making my wife feel judged and stupid for even asking. It is unfortunate that this employee chose to not only judge my wife for her taste in music but also decided to be really rude about it. I get that the store has more of a metal/alt aesthetic and they are allowed to carry whatever they want, but treating customers like they are lesser for liking different music is just really dumb and in my opinion pretty against the art form entirely, especially when it comes to punk/metal/alt/goth genres. Customer service should not be hostile to the people walking through your door. We obviously will not be going back, which really sucks because as vinyl collectors we would love to support the business. Vinyl stores are so rare nowadays, but if they are going to judge you based on what you listen to and be crappy to your face about it, we do not want to be supporting this place anyway. Do better Queen B. Art is subjective and you are doing a bad job and should be ashamed of how you are representing it.

Food: (5/5) The culinary team at Bella Vita deserves immense praise. The food was the absolute highlight of our visit--truly outstanding. Every dish, from the fresh, flavorful pastas to the yummiest gnocchi, was executed perfectly. The quality and taste alone make this restaurant a must-try. I would 100% recommend it for the taste and quality of the food. Customer Service & Experience: (2/5) This is where the experience fell short. The operational challenges began before we even arrived. Since online policies didn't allow a single reservation for our party of 9, I had to book 2 separate tables. I called the restaurant, leaving a clear voicemail after being routed through an AI, to merge the bookings. Despite this effort, the host at the door seemed visibly put off and surprised by our party size, giving a rather rude impression. The most significant issue occurred during the meal: "We ordered a large family salad, which inexplicably arrived AFTER we had finished our entire meal and the plates had been cleared. We were charged for this untouched $20 item that arrived after our dinner and we returned" Adding insult to injury, the server asked if we wanted to keep or box the salad, and it was ultimately charged to our bill!!! For a restaurant at this price point (already expensive, plus a 3.5% credit card fee and a flat 20% gratuity for large parties), basic customer service dictates that a mistake of that magnitude should be acknowledged with an automatic waiver of the charge as a courtesy. To be charged for an untouched item that arrived too late was a major put-off. Final Verdict We ended up with a $300 bill for a table of five adults and four young kids (no wine or alcohol). While I absolutely don't mind paying for quality, I expect the overall experience--food taste, atmosphere, and customer satisfaction--to be harmonious. If you are a serious foodie willing to compromise on the service experience, you will love the kitchen's offerings. If polished, attentive service is equally important to you, be prepared for potential disappointments.
