    Pulled pork Ruben

I can already hear the question: "Five stars... for this place?" Yeah. And I mean it. Rock Springs Cafe is probably my favorite "tourist trap" in Arizona, and I don't use that term as an insult. It knows exactly what it is, and more importantly, it leans into it without apology. We stopped in yesterday with a group of nine after a night up in Sedona, heading back toward Phoenix. This has become a bit of a tradition for us, but it was the first visit for most of our extended family. Before we even got inside, they started noticing something unusual. People walking out were smiling, making eye contact, telling us, "Get the pie." Not once or twice. Over and over. It's got that kind of reputation. You walk in and it's part restaurant, part roadside curiosity. There's a gift shop right there selling pickled everything, jars lined up like a museum of vinegar and ambition, plus the usual mix of souvenirs and trinkets. It sets the tone immediately. This isn't trying to be refined. It's trying to be memorable. Because of our size, we were seated in the larger dining room. It's got that classic, slightly chaotic charm. The kind of place kids instantly love because there's so much to look at. Ours were fully entertained before the menus even landed. Food-wise, it delivers exactly what you want it to. I had the pulled pork Reuben, which hit the spot in that unapologetically indulgent way. Not delicate, not trying to impress a food critic. Just good, satisfying, and gone faster than I expected. The kids ordered off the kids menu, no complaints, no leftovers worth mentioning. Everything came out right, no issues, no drama. If I'm being completely honest, this probably lands at four stars on food alone. Solid, enjoyable, but not life-changing. Then Andrea shows up. Our server completely changed the experience. She was warm, genuinely friendly, and knew how to read the table. She gave us time when we needed it, checked in without hovering, chatted just enough to make it feel personal without slowing things down. Handling a table of nine isn't easy, and she made it look effortless. That bump from four to five stars? That's her. And yes, we got the pie. You don't come here and skip it. I went with the bourbon pecan, which has been my go-to forever, and it's still exactly what I want it to be. Rich, a little over the top, and absolutely worth it. Prices are reasonable, especially for a place that could easily coast on its reputation alone. Before you leave, do yourself a favor and check out the "Rare White Bat." It's one of those weird little details that somehow fits perfectly here. Bottom line. This place isn't perfect. It's better than that. It's consistent, it's self-aware, and it gives you exactly the experience you came for. And sometimes, that's worth more than perfection.

Unfortunately, must rate the experience we had sitting down to dine at the cafe a two-star. We love the general market with canned goods, an ice cream shop, and candy shop with souvenirs and fun shopping items. Stopped in on the way up to Flagstaff for lunch. Our wait time was 45-50 minutes and we gave our cell phone to be updated when our table was ready. We strolled around and window shopped then stopped into the Pie Box, bought a blueberry pie for home and waited in the enclosed patio there. Checked our wait time on phone link and it had gone up to 60 minutes. Went to check in person and we were told we could go back to a booth on the bar side. Here we waited for an hour or more for our food to finally come out. Maybe they are short staffed. The waitress and bus boy we did have were very nice and accommodating when in our area. We ordered: - Hot green tea and our waitress, Amanda, brought out another hot tea for my daughter without us asking. We were waiting a while for water refills before this - FRIED COD w coleslaw & sweet potato fries, side of ranch - (1/5) Light & crispy, mild seasoned breading. The coleslaw was decent and fresh. The sweet potato fries were burnt and flattened. The fried cod was the worst fish I've ever had. It was so dry inside that I couldn't cut through it. I ripped it with my hands and tried to eat it with tartar sauce to get some protein. So dry it was like fish jerky and I had to pick through to find chewable bites. - CHOPPED SALAD - (3/5) Choice of grilled or crispy chicken. Daughter said this salad was good. Filling and big. She didn't care for the processed chicken pieces in the salad - TOP SIRLOIN - (3/5) Seasoned and grilled to order. A little overcooked. Baked potato seemed old to Hubs. He just ate half. - MEATLOAF PLATTER - (2/5) traditional family recipe. Daughter liked the soup. It was maybe loaded potato soup with chicken? She liked the meatloaf, just wished for a ketchup glaze instead of bland gravy on top. She couldn't really eat the mashed potatoes. They had large diced chunks of baked potato in them. Only problem was that they were really hard chunks and she couldn't cut through them. Really wished this visit was better. We were hoping for the best and it was disappointing trying to sit down here for a hot meal.

Driving with the fam to Sedona and it was a must to stop by to get pie, and we decided to eat lunch before getting back on the road. This spot is so quaint and cute. Love that there are two dining rooms and that old country diner feel. I ordered the broccoli & quinoa salad and a side of onion rings. Brother got the top sirloin & eggs, nephew got the chicken & waffles, and SIL got the pulled pork reuben. The salad was really good and I appreciated that even though it was pre-mixed & tossed in the dressing, it wasn't sopping wet. The dressing was light and didn't over power the flavor of the dish. The veggies were also perfect texture and not super hard & raw. The onion rings were amazing--super crispy! Brother loved the steak & said it tasted like it was cooked over grill which added to the smokiness of it. Eggs were cooked as requested and the potatoes were well seasoned. SIL said the reuben was flavorful and filling (had to take half home) and the fries were well seasoned and just the right crispiness with the light battery. Nephew is a picky eater and usually only eats chicken tenders, but he enjoyed the chicken and waffles. We ordered strawberry rhubarb with ice cream, chocolate, and Tennessee lemon pie slices. I told them the strawberry rhubarb was a must, and I didn't steer them wrong. It's by far my favorite here. The lemon was divine. I loved the crust and the consistency of the custard. My nephew devoured the chocolate slice so it was a huge hit. Our server Dakota was fantastic, super friendly helpful answering all our questions, and patient while we took forever to make decisions on dishes or dessert.

Had to wait 30 minutes, and the restaurant wasn't packed???? The place was not as clean as I would have suspected??? A little creature floating in the water pitcher, which the waitress took before I could take a picture. Wow, Andrea was marvelous, very nice and attentive. Food was excellent, pie is Super.

This brunch spot completely won me over -- and not just because of the pie (although that alone is worth the visit). The menu had all the brunch favorites done right: fluffy pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and rich, flavorful coffee that kept the table happy. But the real star? The pie. Fresh, homemade, and perfectly balanced -- flaky crust with a filling that tasted like it came straight from grandma's kitchen. We tried a slice after brunch "just to share," and let's just say that plan didn't last long. Every bite was incredible. Warm service, cozy atmosphere, and dessert that steals the show. If you're looking for a brunch spot that goes the extra mile, especially when it comes to pie, this is it.

I am back again for that banana cream pie. Literally the bestt pie I have ever tried. It's so so good. Pies are made fresh daily and taste soo good. I mainly get their banana cream pie and haven't tried the other pies yet because it is that good. I like how they also sell individual slices if you don't want to commit to a whole pie. They also sell other pastries as well. It's such a cute area.

This place is a great little pitstop off of the I 17 on the way to Prescott. They have a café, saloon, and bakery/pie shop. They are known for their delicious pies. We were on our way North to go off roading in CK, so on our way back we stopped for some pie. I personally love their peach crumb. I bought a cherry crumb and mixed berry crumb. They didn't have a peach one available for purchase. I love that they have the Pie Box, next to the store. It's alot less busy and messy in cafe area. We were there on a Sunday, so it was very busy. They also have a large variety of jelly, jams, pepper jams & homemade butters

When we came in the restaurant was pretty empty when though it was 6 pm on a Saturday. We waited for a while to be seated before we were seated in one of the dining rooms. This restaurant is unique and looks like more space kept getting added. I shared a ribeye with my wife while my mother in law got the brisket and my son got the chicken fingers. The brisket was very fatty and the flavor was disappointing. The chicken fingers also lacked flavor. The ribeye was the best thing we ordered for dinner. It was flavorful but wasn't very thick. My mother in law also ordered a soda and didn't get it. The desert was amazing. I got the Blueberry Crumb and my mother in law got the Banana Cream pie. If we come back it will be because of the deserts but not for the food.

Cranberry Walnut Salad, Mimosa by the Creek

First time stopping here on our way to Page. Rustic and vintage vibe, with a western old school feel. The menu isn't very accommodating to vegetarians, but they do have a cranberry walnut salad on the menu for $14.00. Overpriced as the dressing is from a bottle and not homemade, the lettuce was plain chopped iceberg, and it was nothing fancy about it. I got a mimosa by the creek $7.50 which was very good and more like a spritzer. The hubby got the smoked philly sandwich with french fries $17.00. The sandwich was packed with meat, and just the right amount of cheese and other toppings. The french fries were crispy, airy and cooked to perfection. As the hubby said, "best fries evvvveerrrr"!.

This is the first time that I have stopped here for "not-pie". We were on our way south and it was breakfast time. There was a wait for a table, but it gave us a few minutes to peek around the shop (kinda spendy for what's there). Our server was really lovely and gave me solid advice on my biscuit and gravy (I would certainly not have been able to eat two!). My companion had the hash and said it was very tasty! I have only ever been here because I was passing through- but would come back under the same circumstances.

So inviting..... I really feel encouraged to shop here and maybe buy something. NOT

Sadly, after decades of fun visits, I have recently found that Rock Springs Cafe is no longer worth the drive. The two stars I gave them are for their awesome, long-suffering employees who are consistently charming and efficient, not matter what they are having to deal with. I think the biggest problem they have is keeping, and managing, good people. They consistently have way too many customers for the meager few employees that are on the floor each day. This leads to long wait times for diners. Most of the servers are stressed, with too much to do, but they hide it pretty well. My last visit was in April. I MUCH prefer to sit in the bar area, as it is much more spacious and better looking, but for the last several times I've been there, we weren't allowed to sit in the bar because they don't have enough servers to cover it! Huge bummer. So, when I arrived at 3:00 pm, the "no hostess" sign was up. Customers were lined up, just waiting for a server to notice them and take them to, hopefully, a clean table. The tables were not filled, by any means. But there were only two servers that I could see. I finally got seated at 3:15. Both my drink and food orders were taken at 3:30. My drink arrived at 3:40, which was 25 minutes after I ordered it. The food arrived at 4:00pm. The place was at about 35-40% capacity, and I still had to wait an hour from when I walked in. I was feeling pretty sad for this place and its current condition, compared to the good old days. I won't even bother to mention how badly the pies have degraded, and how outrageously priced they are now, because other reviewers have already covered that ground. The place needs to be sold to someone who cares more and/or is better funded. They also need to remove the outdated and offensive shoplifting signs from the 70s. I already feel unwelcome enough without these warnings. Sad.

Anytime we are in this area--this is a MUST stop location. Best known for their amazing pies. Upstairs of the restaurant is their year round Christmas shop. The wait staff are all amazing and just the nicest! The food-no matter what I get, is always so dang yummy! There is often times a line, but well worth the wait! I cannot recommend this place enough! Go find out for yourself the down home feel from the time you enter till the time you leave!

Traveling back to Arizona, we knew we had to return, and once again, it exceeded every expectation. The filet mignon is simply out of this world--served sizzling in a cast iron skillet with clarified butter, it's incredibly flavorful, perfectly cooked, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. It's the kind of dish you think about long after the meal is over. What really sets this place apart, though, is the people. The staff consistently go above and beyond, creating an experience that feels both elevated and welcoming. And Michael, the manager, is exceptional--so accommodating, attentive, and genuinely invested in making every guest feel taken care of. It's rare to find a restaurant that delivers this level of quality and consistency twice, let alone make you want to keep coming back. Without a doubt, one of the greatest dining experiences in the USA. We'll absolutely be back again.
