To say that I was pleasantly surprised with this place would be an understatement. This wine bar in an elegant old building is sophisticated but unpretentious. Excellent wine selections and the prices are great - we enjoyed an outstanding $25 bottle of Chardonnay. The atmosphere is just the right mix of cool and casual. We weren't starving so we ordered the cheese plate and the mussels. The cheese plate was as advertised - no issues with the freshness of the cheese, meats and crackers. The mussels were outstanding - fresh with a very flavorful broth that had a spicy kick at the finish - with plenty of crusty bread to sop up the broth. The key lime tart for dessert was just right - not too tart and not too sweet. I would have given 5 stars if not for the food taking a really long time to be served - but it was worth the 30 minute wait for a great meal and experience - we weren't in any hurry anyway and I must say its denies slow down a bit and enjoy it even more. Definitely check this place out if you are in Lima - we will be back for sure! read more

The Met is a beautiful space and great place to meet friends for a drink after work. My favorite menu item are the shaved Brussels sprouts with bacon. So yummy! They are currently doing a big remodel and adding more draft taps for craft beers. Great addition for our Downtown Lima! read more

The ambiance is not what I expected from Lima, Ohio. Small, but with an air of elegance. Servers were professional, yet casual. I simply had a soup and salad. The veggie and rice soup was very satisfying and quite delicious. I just had their house salad (The Met), which had fresh greens and a great, light, creamy dressing. I must say, I was in for work and a little nervous that I would find a local place that was this good. The food was stellar. I had the carnivore flatbread and was not disappointed. As a side I did the Brussels sprouts. Perfectly and simply cooked with olive oil, S&P and bacon. The wine list wasn't huge but it was just fine. Reasonably priced and had a nice atmosphere. I had a chance to grab lunch with my wife and daughter the other day and we were amazed at the quality and choices. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich and indicated that it was by far the best chicken salad sandwich she had ever had. The freshness of the chicken and the dressing complemented each other. Overall really like this place. Interior is great and beer/wine selection is good. Food is decent too, but we never really go there for the food. Price is decent too. The overall atmosphere is really nice too and makes you think you are not in Lima for a small part of your day anyways. read more

Deceitful Reviews I was in this restaurant over the weekend on Friday. I have been to this establish several times over the years. When I first started going in with my wife we enjoyed the atmosphere, service, and food. Over the years they have replaced experienced staff with inferior workers. For example, the entire management team appears to have been replaced. The bar manager with long blonde hair and pink ends knows nothing about the drinks or beers that they carry. When asked, the blonde, could not give simple tasting notes on a beer I had asked about because, "She didn't like that kind of beer". This same manager was discussing "smoking" after work. Since I saw several employees smoking outside near the restrooms, I could only speculate that she intended to smoke illegal substances once her shift was over. I found it telling that they clearly do not drug test their staff. They have replaced the general manager (Chrissy or Christy?) with a lady who seems to be incompetent. On the evening that we were in there was a line of customers out the door. Rather than helping the hostess to get all of the patrons sat she disappeared and left the poor girl fending for herself. My wife and I then saw her walking from table to table just talking, rather than helping anyone, as the staff all seemed rather busy. She just kept this bizarre fake smile plastered to her face. I guess that is what she is getting paid to do, smile? Aside from that we barely saw our waitress. They were at our table maybe four times and never asked if we wanted dessert, which we typically get. I doubt that we would have on this night though, as we were thoroughly fed up with the unnecessary wait for our entrees. We didn't even bother to order drinks from the bar because we have waited upwards of 20 minutes to receive them in the past. We got sodas, which still took the waitress about 10 minutes to deliver. The staff clearly needs trained better, and they appear to have a revolving door of employees since the management has changed. We did not recognize one person from our visit aside from the two new managers, when we used to see the same faces that provided the best service. I have also tried to review them several times on Trip Advisor, only to find that they have denied my review request. Clearly they are only accepting good reviews, which is deceitful to those looking to dine there. My wife and I will most likely never return. They have not updated their menu since they opened and their current staff is not trained properly. Not to mention the poor change in management, which is probably contributing to employees changing so frequently. read more

My husband and I have eaten at The Met numerous times and also attended the wine dinners. We have had delicious food and drink every time. The servers are friendly and eager to give helpful suggestions regarding food and drinks. We also like the educational component of the wine dinners. The speakers give information concerning the growing regions, history, and food pairings for the various wines. We are so impressed with our experience at The Met, that we are hosting a private party in the back room which seats up to about 50 people. The lady in charge of catering arranged for us to sample the food and wines in order to select our menu. The waiter assisted us in making our selections so as to please the varied tastes of our guests. This is a hidden jewel in downtown Lima. Don't miss it! read more

We (party of 4) called ahead to see if we needed reservations and were told that they only take reservations for 12 or more but that if we came before 7:00 (Friday nite) we wouldn't have any problem being seated. We arrived at 6:30 and were told there would be a 40 min wait. We agreed to wait and ordered drinks. After about 30 minutes we asked a waitress how much longer it might be as we had not seen anyone leave. She indicated they there was a reservation for a party of 14 and they were late. She went on to say that if they weren't here soon, they would start seating people. About 10 min later a couple came in and said they had the reservation for 14. When we asked again about the wait time! she said it would be another hour. As we we finished our drinks, 2 more of the party of 14 came in and we left. Good example of POOR management. When you go to the Met you kind of forget you are in Lima, Ohio. I like that I have worn a nice dress and jeans but neither was out of place. This place seems to be all about sampling - trying new things. Making people comfortable to try new things. The servers ask you what you want in a way a non-wine/beer expert can communicate. Red or White? Sweet or not? Then they find you something you will like, not because they say you should like it, but because they know their stuff & they want you to like it. It's a new place and every time I go they have made another improvement. They added art on the walls, music - decent music - and the menu is always changing - daily specials and the beers they offer rotate. The food is overpriced for the portion - but they tell you small plates from the get-go, and it is delicious. I haven't seen another place in Lima yet that offers this type of quality and variety. Gnocchi was great and probably the most filling item on the menu. Scallops seem to always be a hit & the sliders are great for sharing. Beer flights are a great option for sharing & sampling too! I don't recommend their creme brulee dessert so much but Sara's Sweets does their cupcakes & I know those are good if you want a little something sweet. My only other suggestion would be to offer coffee with desserts for those of us who find themselves as DD on occasion who want a little something special too. read more

It was my job as the leader of a group of 7 to find a place for dinner. None of us were from Lima and the hotel desk clerk where we were staying described The Met as a "wine bar." Luckily I had checked the website and knew it was more than that! Showed up without a reservation around 7PM and were seated in roughly 10 minutes near the bar. They were pretty busy for a Thursday evening. Here are the facts: *Service = 5 Stars (Carson was our server - She.Was.Great!) *Drinks = 5 Stars (Quality and selection were very good) *Apps = 4 Stars (One member of our table ordered 2 choices and they were good, but not great. Just didn't knock me over...) *Food = 5 Stars (ALL members of our party raved about what they ordered. This included steaks, braised short ribs, huge salads, and other dishes I cannot recall.) Fantastic restaurant in the heart of downtown Lima, Ohio. What a treat. Their menu is comprised of what some might consider "small" plates but they are very tasty. The wine selections are excellent and the staff will help you choose a bottle or two from the wall. The beer selections were also a real pleasure - large selection of some that were unusual, at least to me. The baked bread, meat and cheese plate and seared scallop dish (served with a basil risotto) were delicious. I asked if the chef was the owner because you can watch the chef prepare the food and I thought this might have been a matter of pride for him or her. We didn't have the desserts but the waitress boasted that the Mello Cream Bread Pudding was one of her favorites (made with Mello cream doughnuts). There really is nothing like this in Buffalo and it would be a real plus if there was. Driving through Lima, make it a point to stop. It is right across from the Courthouse.
