I hadn't visited The Melting Pot in about 15 years, so when my boyfriend suggested it for a date night, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed the experience. We were seated in a cozy, intimate booth for two, which made the evening feel special and comfortable. Our server, Josie, was fantastic. friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. We started with the spinach artichoke cheese fondue, which was excellent. Josie prepared it tableside, and it was perfectly gooey and full of flavor. She was also very generous, promptly bringing more dippers whenever we ran low. For our main course, we shared the bullion broth fondue and selected the garlic and teriyaki steak. It was served with a nice assortment of vegetables and sauces, and everything was delicious. Just tried this with my kids - first time for them (and probably last for all of us). We had the special 4 course email and were disappointed by every course. For the cheese course, we had the classic alpine, and it tasted very strongly of wine/alcohol. Seems it didn't burn off like it was supposed to - many jokes about my elementary schooler being drunk for the first time that night. But it also just didn't taste very good - needed seasoning. We had an assortment of meats cooked by us in oil, and they just didn't taste very high quality - rubbery almost synthetic tasting chicken and shrimp and over-peppered steak with no other seasoning. Chocolate s'mores fondue was delicious, but there wasn't enough chocolate for even 3/4 for the fruit and cakes. On service, I had mentioned when I made the reservation that this was our first time, but nobody said anything about that when we arrived or explained how the fondue was supposed to work. There were also long breaks of time between receiving our courses, especially dessert, so we ended up being there more than 2.5 hours. Also, not cheap. My family and I have been loyal Melting Pot customers for more than 20 years, but our recent visit to the Arlington location was, unfortunately, one of the worst dining experiences we've had. Our party consisted of three children and two adults, arrived for our 5:15 PM reservation on time and were sat at approximately 5:20 PM. From there, however, the evening quickly unraveled. Our server did not greet our table for a good 15 minutes after we were seated. Even after being greeted, we did not receive our initial drink order until 6:00 PM. By that point, we had been sitting at the table for about 45 minutes with little to no service. Throughout the remainder of the meal, every course was delayed. Food delivery was inconsistent, communication was lacking, and basic hospitality seemed absent. The server frequently disappeared for extended periods, forcing us to seek assistance from a manager on two separate occasions just to keep our meal moving forward. *** What made the experience even more disappointing was the interaction at the end of the evening. Our bill totaled approximately $320, including tax, which included two bottles of wine. My friend and I split the check and left a 15% gratuity based on the food and service portion of the bill, excluding the wine purchase & tax. Given the level of service we received, we felt this was more than fair. The server stood next to the table basically restricting a path for us to leave the booth and said to us, "You're only giving me a $30 tip?" When we explained our calculation, he proceeded to challenge our decision and continued asking for additional gratuity. It got so awkward that I asked him to charge me $0.01 to leave an additional $20!!! I've dined out for decades and have never experienced a server confronting guests over gratuity in this manner. The irony is that at The Melting Pot, guests are actively preparing much of their own meal. Despite that, we were still prepared to tip generously. This is a reservation, word of mouth style establishment too! What we were not prepared for was being pressured and guilted into leaving more money after enduring nearly two and a half hours of slow, inattentive service on an EARLY Thursday night dining service. A leisurely fondue experience is expected at The Melting Pot; spending that amount of time waiting on service is not. Sadly, this visit was enough for both my friend and me to decide we will not be returning to the Arlington location. If we choose to visit The Melting Pot again, it will be at the Reston location or one of the Maryland locations, where we hope the focus is still on hospitality and guest experience. We all had had the 4 course dinner that included fondue cheeses, salads, hibachi-type entries, and fondue dessert. Our group had almost everything on the menu - from salads, to the chicken, duck, shrimp, salmon, teriyaki beef, filet beef, garlic-pepper beef, and chicken potstickers. I wrote to Melting Pot directly about our experience but have yet to receive a reply. I have enjoyed previous visits but this one was horrible. Our server took over 15 minutes to come to the table, never gave us her name and immediately asked if we had made our decisions on what we wanted. I told her about our celebration (and did this as well on our reservations) but it didn't seem to matter as it was never brought up. I also told our server that all but me, had never been to a Melting Pot. She didn't say anything other than 'welcome'. I explained they didn't know how it worked, or what to do. She spent time pointing at the menu and reading it for us instead of actually talking to us. The food was ok but she never came back to turn down the burner so when we were down to about 25% left of the cheese, it was burned and we could not eat it. one of the worse experiences i've had at one of my favorite places. my servers consisted of a frat boy and a green haired girl and they did NOT work well together. the front desk service was also horrible as the hostess appeared to be high as a kite. but anyway back to the service, the girl with the forest on her head was very unhelpful and we were there for almost 3 hours and waited over an hour for our food. service deteriorated over the last year and I fear I won't be returning. do better melting pot. last but not least the frat boy server called my beloved friend ada a sir, like wtf us ur damn eyes please and the green haired girl told another one of my friends to "actually move" when we were on our way out. very disappointing experience read more

As someone who loves The Melting Pot and has celebrated nearly every birthday here for the past 15 years, it truly saddens me to see how much the experience has declined. While the food was still good, it just didn't match the rest of the visit. The overall atmosphere felt off--no one greeted us at the door, the carpets were dirty, and the lights were on full brightness, which completely took away from the romantic, intimate vibe the restaurant used to have. Our server wasn't very knowledgeable, and unfortunately, the service didn't reflect the premium price point. What really disappointed me was that I had noted my birthday when making the reservation, but they were out of strawberries and told us they no longer offer anything special for birthdays. I've always looked forward to the birthday packages in the past, so that was a big letdown. It's been about 7 years since we've been to a Melting Pot, last was in Dayton OH area. We decided to celebrate or wedding anniversary at the Arlington location. Parking in garage and navigating through the stairwell to entrance was weird, but well marked with signs. The whole reason we came was the food experience and they did not disappoint! I recommend the 4-course. The fiesta cheese fondue was on point! I recommend the California salad, phenomenal! You can choose from a wide array of cheese styles, and meats and cooking styles. UPDATED REVIEW: I truly hate to give negative reviews, especially to a place where I normally love to go to with my family but after tonight, I have to revise my previous positive review. My family and I have been visiting this location for the past 20 years and the food and service is usually consistent. The last two times we dined here we have had bad experiences with tonight being the worst. We were served by a young man by the name of Sam B. From the moment we met Sam, it was very obvious he did not want to be there and we did not feel welcomed. His service was VERY slow and he couldn't answer some of the simple questions we had asked regarding couple items on the menu. The two cheese fondues he prepared for us were extremely watery and to make matters worse, we found hair in our food that didn't match the color of any of my family members. When we informed Sam of this, he never apologized and just walked away. When he came back, he sort of slid the new item on our table and walked away again. His actions were very rude. When you're paying $50 a person, you expect good service. If you visit this location, do yourself a favor and make sure Sam isn't your waiter. I really wanted to like this place, but I was so disappointed. While the table was setup so cute for date night and the service was exceptional, the food was so incredibly bland and mediocre. I find this place to be far over priced for the quality of the food. All of the meats/proteins were bland and the sauces didn't make it much better. Also, I'm pretty sure something in the food made me and my boyfriend sick. We left with very upset stomachs. When we come in we know the deal and most often know what we're ordering. We have a great time every time and always end up stuffed! Price is high for the fact that you are cooking it yourself but that's never been a complaint. This last time we went were all very surprised at the fact that the plates of vegetables are now $5 more for extra. They put 1or 2 PIECES of veg per person on these plates. And they now wanna charge $5 extra for more. Is that going to stop me from coming? No. But is adding on another cost when it's all high anyway really necessary? No. Melting pot is an experience that's fun to try at least once. But if you don't want to cook your own food then this is not the place for you. Pine nuts on the ceaser salad are enough to order the salad 1000 times over and over lol actually just order the pine nuts. We came for happy hour which allowed us to get their chocolate fondues and drinks discounted. We were a group of seven and got 2 savory and 2 sweet fondues. We even had to wait over 20 minutes to get our final course of dessert. When paying the prices you do at Melting Pot, I expect a certain level of service. When it comes to the food, overall, it was tasty. The chicken and steak are well seasoned. Not really a big fan of the salmon though. As always the spinach and artichoke cheese fondue and s'mores of dessert was everything. Unfortunately, my salad was overdressed and had croutons, even though I said no croutons twice to the waitress. We had some family visiting for the weekend and Melting Pot is right across the street from us, so we thought it would be fun to go as a large group. The service was terrible and the food is a rip-off for the prices that they charge. It was the first time for all of us and it took a while for us to understand the menu. Our server didn't take the time to explain it to us. All she did was point to the set menus and point to the à la carte options on the other side. We had an odd number of people in our party so we had to figure out how to price out the "experiences" which are for 2 people. When we asked her questions, she repeated herself and pointed to the menu again as though that was going to provide some clarity (it didn't), so we took the time to figure it out on our own. After taking our drink orders, she disappeared and didn't return to take our food orders until my husband got up to track her down. For the cheese fondue, we tried the Alpine classic which was terrible--the white wine was too strong and overpowered the flavors of the cheese. Some others in our group got the Spinach Artichoke which was bland. The salads were nothing special--I've had better salads at Appleby's and Chili's. The main course reminded us of Chinese hot pot, but twice as expensive. The ingredients were fresh and well prepared. No complaints here. The chocolate fondue was the best part and the reason why this isn't a 1-star review. The chocolates were delicious and we loved the variety of sweets and fruits for dipping. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The fondue is delicious and the atmosphere is really nice. I always get the classic alpine, and usually the Wisconsin cheddar. There's a large variety of options so you get to try a lot. There is also a big vegetarian course that is offered.I enjoy the layout of the restaurant, it provides a sense of privacy. The tables are separated by walls so the dining experience is more calm. Our server was Brandon and he did a fantastic job. He was fast, friendly, welcoming, and patient. He was also a wonderful conversationalist which is important at these places because they make the food in front of you. I highly recommended this place if you like fondue or hotpot. read more

This was my first time at Melting Pot ever! Made the wise decision to come during restaurant week, and my friends and I had the best time! Our server Malik was amazing! So helpful and patient with us as It was our first time and we needed some explaining. We had three courses. The cheese fondue was to die for. Malik made It at the table in front of us. We got the classic alpine. We devoured this with the bread, veggies, and apples It comes with. We also ordered a bottle of the house red for the table which paired well with the cheese. Next you get to pick from salad options. The caprese salad was a solid choice. At this point I could feel myself getting really full, but I pushed through! Next up was the proteins. You get to pick from four. My favorite was definitely the teriyaki sirloin and the mushroom sacchetti. We chose to cook It Coq Au Vin style. A great choice. Came with eight different dipping sauces and extra veggies. Of course we couldn't say no to the dessert. This was incredible. The teriyaki beef was my favorite flavor-wise. For cooking times, they have a sign with recommended cooking times and our server also explained it before we started so we knew. And they also provide a selection of dips and sauces for the table. All the sauces were good and the variety was really nice. The favorite sauce for the table was the curry one. For dessert we got the smores pot. This was the BEST thing. The chocolate was perfectly sweet and creamy. And the assortment to dip in it was awesome. I think despite not being what we ordered it made sense for our first time. After that came dessert. We went the traditional route and just got milk chocolate. You got pretzels, rice crispies, marshmallows, strawberries, pineapple, waffles etc. it was good but we were so full at this point and the baby was ready to go. I made a reservation on Open Table and they only had 8:45 pm or latter available. However when I arrived 2 hours early to see if they had any earlier openings they seated me right away. The restaurant was fairly quite despite a few large groups dining in as well. Javier was my server for the evening. He was very attentive and did a great job explaining the menu to me. I had only been to Melting Pot once prior about 15 years ago. I opted for a la cart because Im not a dessert fan and knew I wouldn't want the chocolate fondue. So I chose a cheese fondue, skipped the salad dessert and chose the pacific rim option to include a variety of protein. Everything was fresh and tasty. While I'm not a fan of reviewing franchised establishments on the regular, the experience itself is worth raving (and writing) about! The entree meats course had huge portions and large quantity, more meat and biggest size we have seen yet. It was definitely worth the money and I was so full I almost couldn't finish! First let me say that Kate was great!! Upon arrival we were greeted and immediately checked in. I did take notice that it was freezing in the restaurant but hoped that it would warm up once we started or dinner experience. It just so happened to be Restaurant Week so the was a predetermined menu at a discounted price which allowed you to choose your meal tailored to your hearts desire. For $35 you were able to choose a Cheese Fondue whether it was the featured one or one of your choosing from the menu. Our table decided on the Wisconsin Cheddar and the Spinach Artichoke. After tasting the two, my new favorite is the Spinach Artichoke. I had to end my relationship with the WC because something was off, it did not taste like what i remembers but the new fondue saved the day. The spinach and artichokes are small enough to still have a big impact. It was especially divine on the pretzel bread and the green apple dippers. Next was the salad of your choice. Most of the table opted for the Caesar and if you know me, I did request extra pine nuts. There was also a House Salad and a Bacon Bleu Spinach that made their way to the table as well. Dressing on the side so you can have it as wet or dry as you desire. Time for the meat!!!!! You could choose the predetermined meat selection of choose four from a list of provided meats. Lobster tails were also an option for a super duper up charge of $14.99 as you are advised to get two tails. Buyer beware... it's one tail sliced into two pieces or so it looked that way on the plate. The chosen cooking style was Coq Au Vin but you could choose on of the other cooking styles on the regular menu. We had two pots so we did Coq and the Mojo (my personal fav). I do recommend putting all the veggies in and letting them cook while you cook your meats. Some before take longer than others. Also the longer the cook the more flavor they have!!!! Lastly and probably everyone's favorite part, le dessert!!!! We went with the Pure White Chocolate and the Yin Yang. The dessert dipper plate always has something different on it each time I go! This time we had pretzel sticks which was cute! If you are undecided Yin and Yang is perfect giving you the beast of both worlds to starts and once mixed gives you straight up chocolate lol. All in all, the experience is exactly what you'd expect.... an experience. I do think they restaurant week gives you less food in all but allows you to get a little this and a little that making it easier to experiment to see what you really like. There is parking under the restaurant so make sure you take your ticket with you and the restaurant will cover a majority of it for you. It's best to make a reservation too to minimize any wait times. Lastly, hopefully the heat to air mixture will be better for you or on my next visit. The melting pot is a unique restaurant where everything is fondue and hotpot based. The main meal is three courses: a cheese fondue starter, a salad, and a hotpot-style entree where you choose a broth/cooking base, a selection of meats and vegetables, and then cook them yourself. Used to go here when I was in high school. Came here with family to celebrate a birthday - we enjoyed dipping breads and veggies into the gooey and hot spinach artichoke. The ying yang dessert is epic: it comes with dark and white chocolate. You get to put cookies, brownies, marshmallows, graham crackers, and other stuff into the chocolate fondue. Restaurant is great for those with allergies. Staff were friendly and gave us extra marshmallow dippers! read more
