Don't Walk, Run to Sun!…read more SUNFLOWER Breakfast, Lunch & Bakery (right off Wade Hampton Blvd) This was our second stop of the day, and it sealed the deal, we've officially added SUNFLOWER Breakfast, Lunch & Bakery to our bi-weekly lunch dates. Hubby went with the sausage and egg sandwich, layered with caramelized onions and aioli on a perfectly grilled brioche bun, added with crispy fried potatoes. I could tell by his smile and patting of the foot that it was comforting, hearty, and executed just right I indulged in the chicken pesto, rich with pesto sauce and paired with seasoned fries, which were golden, flavorful, and satisfying without being heavy. Of course, I couldn't skip the coffee. I ordered a cappuccino, and the brown sugar cinnamon really popped, pulling the depth of the roasted brew straight through. Warm, balanced, and cozy in all the right ways. From breads to pastries, everything here is made from scratch, and you can taste the love folded into every bite. Nothing feels rushed or mass-produced, just thoughtful food, made with care. And let's talk atmosphere. SUNFLOWER feels like home. Settled, Welcoming as Friendly drop-ins come and go with ease. The owner's presence adds to the experience without ever announcing itself, no "Hey, I own this place" energy. Just a calm, grounding presence... like a tree gently swaying with the breeze. Don't walk, run to SUNFLOWER. You'll leave full, grounded, and already planning your next visit.

Our first choice to eat was the Farehouse, conveniently located, but they had a long back up in the kitchen due to a very large party of two dozen or more. I'm thinking, what do I know on this side of town and Sub Station II came to mind. In the late 1970's I used to visit here frequently for their New York style subs and they had the only and first Space Invaders video game in the area. Probably around 1977. The reason for only five stars is because they have done nothing to the interior since 1977. There are items stored out in the open that shouldn't be, like the vacuum cleaner and other supplies - just an oddity. The restaurant was clean as were the bathrooms, but it was bare bones for tables & chairs. There were two sandwich makers plus the cashier/manager who also made sandwiches. He was good about washing hands after handling money and then donning gloves to jump in on the sandwich making. He was also very thorough about making sure he made the sandwiches exactly the way each customer wanted. There were about 8 orders in front of our 6 orders, but time for our sandwiches came quicker than I thought it would. What makes the place is the sub, supposedly they are New York style. They are everywhere now in this style, but in 1977 this was the only game in town and they are still very good. The meats are fresh cut, the bread is baked on premises from a "special recipe" formulated just for Sub Station II and each sub bread is toasted so that it can hold up to the "all the way" style: oil, vinegar, lettuce, onions, tomato, oregano, salt and pepper (red pepper). Everyone was surprised at how good the subs were and we made a note to return more often. And we made it to the theater in plenty of time too!

I read it three times, not because I misunderstood it, but because I wanted to confirm that it listed pets and children in that order, which it did, and that tells you something about the sequence of problems they've encountered on the lawn, though I've decided not to find out what exactly. With that said, the lawn is not exactly a lawn at all, unless you consider granite rocks as a lawn, which the residents of Elberton, Georgia do as it is considered the "Granite Capital of the World." Elberton this is not. This rocky lawn is to be filled with Bichon Frisés and children in ball caps, and on the afternoon I visited it was doing exactly that. There was a dog near the covered bar area moving through the patio with the serenity of an animal who has never once been told that other people exist. His owner stood nearby holding a beer and looking proud, which is a face I recognized, because I have a son and have stood next to him with that exact expression at least twice in public places where I should have known better. I had the Radiant Positivity, a sour ale at 6%, which sounds like something printed above a middle school guidance counselor's desk but turned out to be genuinely good, all grapefruit and a tartness that knew when to stop. I thought about ordering the Kamp Jam, a 4% light lager described as tasting like shared laughter and the unbreakable bonds of friendship, and decided I wasn't there yet. The owners opened this place in 2014 and have expanded it three times since, which tells you something about Greer that it probably already knows about itself but that the rest of the area is still catching up on. Consequentially, Greer itself has also expanded its waistline 3 times since 2014 but that's a discussion for another time. I thought about asking about the Southern Sanctum, an American Tripel, but the afternoon had reached the evening and a point where a Tripel felt like a commitment that deserved more deliberation than I had left in me. I paid my tab, which was reasonable in a way that surprised me given the quality of everything, said goodbye to nobody in particular, and drove home thinking about the Kamp Jam, and whether the unbreakable bonds of friendship were something I'd get to eventually.
